Dean, Obama, Emanuel – Mean Girls

Politico has a highly entertaining piece on “whatever happened to Howard Dean.” As anyone who has looked for the DNC party chair knows, he’s been hit by the Obama bus. Kind of unexpected, since his strategy helped win big for the Democrats, but biting the hand that feeds seems to be an Obama hallmark. Just ask Wright, Rezko, Reid, JJJ, Alice Palmer, etc.

The conspicuous absence of Howard Dean from Thursday’s press conference announcing Tim Kaine’s appointment as Democratic National Committee chair was no accident, according to Dean loyalists.
—————–
A physician by training who devoted much of his time as Vermont governor to health care, Dean had his eye on becoming Secretary of Health and Human Services. But the post went to Obama ally and former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. The fact that Dean wasn’t even included in Thursday’s ceremonial — and very public — transfer of power from him to Kaine only underscored his isolation.

“The snub today was no accident,” said one Dean ally. “I guarantee you he would have rescheduled his trip if asked to attend. It’s easy to [screw] over people when you are riding high in the polls, let’s see how many people are singing his praises in six months.”

OUCH!!! “. . . Let’s see how many people are singing his praises in six months!!” You mean to work with him is NOT necessarily to LOVE him? Say it isn’t so.

Some Dean supporters think Rham Emaneul is the reason Dean is persona non grata now.

A source familiar with Emanuel’s thinking dismissed the charges.

“Anyone who thinks Rahm has the time or inclination to do anything other than focus on transitioning to the White House and passing an economic recovery package isn’t knowledgeable enough about his thinking to be commenting in a political story.”

A close friend to Emanuel insisted that the incoming chief of staff was not plotting against his old adversary.

“I talk to Rahm every day,” said this source. “Neither he nor I have mentioned the name of Howard Dean. It’s just not on his radar screen.”

In any event, the friend said, Dean would know for sure if he was being shunted aside by the new administration.

“Rahm never stabs you in the back. He stabs you in front. But I promise that this was accidental.”

Ha. “Just not on his radar screen.” Did the guy smile and look at his fingernails when he said that? And so good to know this stabbing, whether in back or in front, was accidental. That bleeds less.

You know, I think they already made a movie about the 2008-2009 Democratic party.

Yep. That’s it.

But what did Dean say about his once friends and people he helped propel to power now dissing him in public?

“I didn`t do this for the spoils,” Dean told Chris Matthews on MSNBC’s “Hardball.” “I did this for the country. I`m very happy that Barack Obama is president, and I think he`s picked a great cabinet. And I`m pretty happy. I wouldn`t trade my position for any other position right now. I`m going to go into the private sector, make a living making speeches, and do a lot of stuff on health care policy.”

But, showing a flash of the old, off-message Dean, the outgoing chairman couldn’t help but crack wise about just one of the new president’s challenges.

“You gotta hand it to Blagojevich,” said Dean of the embattled Illinois governor’s brazen appointment of Roland Burris to succeed Obama in the Senate. “What a maneuver! What a maneuver! When his back was against the wall he outsmarted a lot of people.”

THAT sounds like a warning. HA! Yep. I think there’s a lot of underground Blago respect, don’t you? Ah. Reminds me of the cheerleading squad I once coached. . .

Lest you think I feel bad for Dean, think again. He helped bring about this mess and he deserves what he gets. Democrats – still champions at eating their own.

Dean deserved the diss…serves him right.

Years ago an aunt of my mother was a staunch democrat and loyalist party member/worker for many campaigns and elections, both locally and nationally. She always cried that the democrats did nothing for you (her) and she was seemed to be upset about it. I am not sure what the turn of events was that changed her into a republican, or caused her to work one year for the Republican party, but she found out that the Republicans take care of their own, unlike the dems. She never turned back! Obama buyers beware!

    • http://ezinearticles.com/?Three-Basic-Parenting-Styles&id=744499 Northwest rain

That is certainly a lesson for us!

My mother’s family has always been Republican — has something to do with that scumbag Andrew Jackson.

I was the first to leave and become Independent and then Demo. Now I’m back to being Independent — Andrew Jackson was a snake in the grass and so is the modern Demo party — Which is now the Obamacrat party.

      • JulieD

Andrew Jackson was only the 7th Prez. There were Indian wars, which Jackson fought in throughout his lifetime. He was also in the Revolutionary War.

I’m guessing this is about the Cherokee Indians? Jackson chose not to endanger the Union by sending the military to fight Georgians to protect the Cherokee, who were doomed if they remained in Georgia without the military.

It was especially tragic because many/most of them were assimilating/ed and were friendly to the US.

Jackson had an adopted son who was Native American.

He saved Florida and New Orleans. Jackson was the 1st Dem. He was wildly popular.

No comparison between Jackson and BO.

Jackson always fought for his country and always with the purpose to preserve the Union.

BO is utterly self-serving and divisive.

Dean deserved it …. I hope he gets run over by the Obus many times over. I’m waiting to see how many dems will start running away from the Ofraud messiah when the shit hit the ceiling in the coming months…years…. “Crooks & Lairs Show from Chicago” is becoming a tv hit everyday. Dean is going to make a living giving speeches? To whom? About what?
“How I spent My Summer Vacation”?

He should give speeches about how he as Chair of the DNC stole the primary election from HRC.

If he would admit the shenanigans and give speeches for primary election reform in the Dem Party, he would be on the road to redemption.

    • candymarl

      LMAO.

I can’t bring myself to have any sympathy for any Democrat even remotely involved with the Rulz committee meeting where BHO was allowed to steal the primary. I won’t look back either.

Of course, I will say I could never have anticipated what is now known as “The New Democrats”. Thanks for all that Howie. Just Desserts.

    Dean dissed?

I’m happy about the whole thing!

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I have to say, after the way Dean ran the DNC the last year, blatantly taking the nomination from Clinton to GIVE to Obama, flaunting the rules of the DNC and DECENCY; remaining staunchly silent in the face of the blatant misogyny/sexism; and paving the way for the SDs to neglect their constituents, he deserves absolutely EVERYTHING he has coming to him – absolutely EVERYTHING.

And once again, for the gazillionith time, for any of these people who have seen how Obama operates to think for one SECOND that Obama won’t dispose of them in a nanosecond if it suits him are just delusional. He has proven, beyond the shadow of a doubt that he is loyal to no one who does not serve his purpose at the moment. Add Dean to the list.

    And John Kerry.

    And Jay Rockefeller.

    And the list goes on…

    Thanks, LisaB!

QFT! No mercy for Dr. Deanenstein and his assistant Igor (Brazile). His creature has turned on him lol.

Oh the schadenfreude is coming much sooner than I expected. Time to buy stocks in popcorn :)

      • oowawa

Isn’t it funny that there isn’t a neat little English word for Schadenfreude, or “malicious glee in someone else’s misfortune.” We need one, cuz we’re going to be experiencing a whole lot of that particular emotion over the next few years.

        • oowawa

Come to think of it, I guess this is what is expressed by the term “BWAHAHAHAHAHA!” That is the voice of unrestrained Schadenfreude.

      • Peggy Sue

Yeah, what happened to Donna Brazilla? Has she been given a spot on the Obamatrain?

        As to:

“Oh the schadenfreude is coming much sooner than I expected.”

That’s for sure, catherine. I wish I could really enjoy the suffering. It all makes me weary and sad.

As for Blago, I think there is some begrudging respect in the ranks for the Gov. It’s the sort of thing people once had for the mob bosses when they foiled the cops at their own game.

Of course, it doesn’t say a whole lot about the Democratic Party as a whole. Nobility among thieves, I guess.

        • oowawa

I wish I could really enjoy the suffering. It all makes me weary and sad.

Oh come on Peggy Sue, don’t you find the idea of payback just a teensy bit exhilerating? What’s going on in Gaza, now that makes me weary and sad. Watching the O sycophants get left out in the cold just makes me want to say “BWAHAHAHAHA!”

          • Clara Barton

Kerry and Dean especially. And Claire! Where’s dear Claire since the Zero lost Missouri? He’d pay back Bill “Grand Jury Judas” Richardson and leave the Good Doctor out in the cold? Talk about ruthless.

          • Peggy Sue

I guess I’m just weary and sad over the whole mess, oowawa. Talk about bad news coming in bunches!

Dean is reaping what he sowed. It’s too bad – I had great hopes for him when he came in as chair of the DNC, and I think the 50-state strategy is a great thing for Democrats. But, the whole was this election was handled was shoddy. I have no respect for him anymore.

  • DanNY

It’s so interesting that Dean finds the Blagoavich nomination of Burris like a heavy weight boxer landing a solid punch to his opponent – something to chear about?! When your a Democrat?! I guess Dean isn’t as fond of Obamas camp after all… If I was Dean I would write a tell all book and then go on the speaking circuit and return to my Republican roots once again. They’ll pay to hear all the trash talk he wants to dish up. Dean fits right in with most Republicans anyway – he doesn’t like gays for one example, unless he has something to gain from the association.

Wow–it is the strangest thing. I now agree with something that Dean has done recently: smirk about the Blagojevich punch against Obama. On the other hand, I a so embarrassed that I actually find a reason to admire Blagojevich. The Democratic Party has really messed up my mind lately.

It is interesting to watch this all play out, though sad for my old sense of ideals.

The Democratic Party has really messed up my mind lately.

LOL!! My only wish is that I was in a Hummer behind the O-bus so I could’ve finished Dean off (metaphorically speaking)–he sounds a little too lively still.

    • FranSC

Remember the flap during the summer about Rep. Wexler not even owning a home in FL – he used his in-laws home there as his FL address. I think he was forced to buy a house in FL – **where he is a congressman FROM Fl**. It was a huge embarrassment but quieted down when he bought a house after realizing his seat could be in danger.

He was most notibly one of the superdelegates that received one of the highest contributions in 2007 from BO for his congressional campaign. This was the buying off of the superdelegates per madame Pelosi’s advice. I think Wexler’s contribution was $11,000.

Is there any wonder these people supported O out of the gate? What a sham!

      • truthtelling007

The only thing good thing I can say about Wexler is that he’s willing to push it when it comes to challenging Cheney and Co. He’s one of the few.

But his contributions to Obama were disappointing.

  • mel

Dean is absolutely right about the punch against Obama with Burris, and today the Illinois State Senate more than stacked the boxing match against Obama by voting to impeach Blago.

With no Emil Jones to protect Obama in the process and the crafty lawyer Blago hired, all those Obama has taken from Chicago onto his magical mystery tour will be exposed by all those Illinois State Senators who dispise Obama and those who’s legislation Obama stole to give the illusion he actually did work on something will be waiting in the wings to show the corruption of Obama outright.

Wonder if CNN will televise these impeachments like the Nixon impeachment was?

Don’t you just love the drama of the Chicago Way……lol

    • Clara Barton

Mel, can you explain why impeachment of Blago is a punch at Obama? I don’t get it.

      • mel

Simple, testifying by the parties involved is part of the process Emanuel, Jarret, Jackson, and anyone else on Fitz’s tapes and Blago’s lawyer won’t let them off the hook without casting major doubts on them, some who were doing the up front bidding for Obama who always cowards behind the scenes and lets others do the dirty workings and being exposed.

Obama was not a loved Illinois Senator either, he pissed off a lot of them via his godfather Jones handing over legislation to Obama that others worked their ass off on, but Obama took all the credit for.

All it takes is one decenting voice to tumble the good ship Obamapop just as it was in the Nixon impeachments.

        • FranSC

That is also exactly what will happen after Jan. 20th. The impressive cabinet that has been named is no doubt the brainchildren of Emauel and Penetta, but NOT the “baby Jesus”, uh, I mean Obama. Like his campaign that he had nothing to do with but is reaping all the credit for its brilliance (regardless of the fraud), he will be given credit for it all including Hillary’s brilliant contributions.

      • KmX

Wait until Blago names his witness list. I can see him asking for Rahm, Obama, Valerie Jarret, Durbin, Reid. Hehehe let the fun begins.

Something more should be said about Mr. Tom Daschle who was given the appointment Dean expected to receive.

i)He couldn’t even deliver South Dakota in the primaries for Obama much less in the general.

ii) After losing his senate seat, he took a job with a K-Street law firm, Alston & Bird as “special advisor” (lobbyist). Their clients include: CVS Caremark, the National Association for Home Care and Hospice, Abbott Laboratories and HealthSouth.

iii)He is a senior fellow at the Center For American Progress along with Elizabeth Edwards. Seed money for this org., according to the Washington Post, was provided by non other than George Soros.

iv)On February 13, 2006, Daschle became one of two Democrats (with Rep. Jane Harman of California) to endorse a warrantless domestic surveillance program conducted under the authority of President George W. Bush by the National Security Agency.

Howard Dean got exactly what he deserved, a reserved seat under the BO bus. We sent countless emails protesting FL, MI, caucus fraud,RBC and sexism to him and he ignored the Democratic base, told us to “get over it” called the protesters names in South Carolina. And look at his replacement. Gov. Kane doesn’t “personally support” choice or gay rights. Does he know he’s a fool yet?

  • I’m a Linda too

    Woohoo! Great post again LisaB.

Oh you know O-shit! doesn’t need Rahm to be a prick, use and toss. The problem is, Dean’s usefullness, or so O-shit! stupidly THOUGHT-you know he’s never been a bright bulb that way, his EGO always gets in the way. Now that Dean’s term is over, his Pac is done in, he wasn’t viewed as needed to give him a spot in his cabinet. So short sided tis he.

And the Doc I think thought things would be different this time around. But too foolishly on his part. “All for the party ” crap again, blindly. O-shit dissed him after getting elected to the Senate, PUBLICLY, and again that was after Gov Dean had his Democracy for America Pac endorse, campaign and contribute heavilty to the BRAINLESS One.

“Key Democrats blast Obama stimulus plan”

      ….. and this is PRICELESS

“Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, said he was “concerned about the way Mr. Summers and others are going on this.” In particular, Harkin dismissed the tax breaks for individuals as a return to “trickledown” economics that won’t work.”

oh no, it’s all too good not to post

“WASHINGTON (CNN) — Key measures of President-elect Barack Obama’s economic recovery plan are facing a barrage of criticism from some Senate Democrats, with one charging the plan’s tax breaks were a return to “trickledown” economics.

During a lengthy closed-door meeting Thursday evening with Democratic senators on Capitol Hill, Larry Summers, tapped to head the National Economic Council, and senior Obama adviser David Axelrod heard complaints about the stimulus plan, according to participants who spoke afterward.

Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa, said he was “concerned about the way Mr. Summers and others are going on this.” In particular, Harkin dismissed the tax breaks for individuals as a return to “trickledown” economics that won’t work.

Harkin said the Obama aides were “noncommittal” about whether they would change their plan.

However, Summers said the senators’ message was “received loud and clear,” according to Sen. Kent Conrad, D-North Dakota.

Axelrod declined to characterize the Democratic senators’ reaction as “pushback.” “I’m going to characterize it as people doing their jobs,” he said.

The Democratic whip, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, said he thought the incoming administration is open to modifying its package.

“I don’t sense they have it set in stone,” Durbin said.

“That’s the stage we’re in now. Talking about options — what will work, what won’t work. There’s not violent reaction against it.”

Earlier Thursday, key members of Obama’s party emerged from a closed-door meeting of the Senate Finance Committee criticizing central tax measures of the president-elect’s proposals. Watch Obama explain his tax proposals »

In particular, members said they did not think the idea of giving employers a $3,000 tax credit for each employee they hire would work.

“I’m not that excited about that,” said Sen. John Kerry, D-Massachusetts. “Having a tax credit for hiring is not going to change that dynamic; creating a direct job will. So I’d rather spend the money on the infrastructure, on direct investment, on energy conversion and other kinds of things much more directly and much more rapidly and much more certainly create a real job.”

Conrad added, “I think it’s unlikely to be effective. If you think about it, businesspeople are not going to hire people to produce products that are not selling. Who is going to hire in the auto industry if you give them a $3,000 credit to make cars that people are not buying?”

Several Democrats also said they were down on an Obama tax proposal for payroll tax credits — amounting to about $20 per paycheck and totaling $500 per person and $1,000 for couples earning less that $200,000 a year.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, said he doubted that proposal would do much to stimulate the economy. “We have an example from the first stimulus that indicates just giving people $500 to $600, while certainly welcome when there’s this much economic hurt, may not be the best use of stimulus,” Wyden said.

Instead, Wyden said, pumping more money into infrastructure spending would be more effective in creating jobs.”

I don’t know… I think they are divided into three classes: a) the libertarians, who are thrilled that Obama is following in Saint Ronnie’s footsteps; b) the brainless (or at least undereducated) children who will turn off to anything that is going on as soon as the coronation is over; and c) the Dem equivalent to the Bush 24-percenters, who will never, never under any circumstances admit they were wrong or deceived. The first group is driving the bus, the second never thought of the bus as anything but a party van, and the third will insist that they are still on the bus even as they are being dragged by the fingernails on the back bumper, inhaling the exhaust fumes.

True! One by one all those who were blindly fooled by the Chicago-Daley machine’s feces will join the rest under the bus!

This is pretty much instant karma for Howard Dean.

He didn’t defend the party or the country against the thugs from Chicago, Pelosi, Reid, and moveon.org.

    He’s been ditched? Who cares?!

Howard Dean should have known Obama would use him and then throw him under the bus. It happened before. Dean’s group, DFA, was a big part of getting BO elected to the Senate. They thought he was a Progressive back then. But once he won, BO turned against Dean, joining the “Dean doesn’t speak for me” Dems. BO went so far as to come out with a public statement critizing his anti-war stand. I could not believe BO’s disloyalty to a man who helped him so much. I sent BO an e-mail protesting his statement – do you think I’m in his “file?” That was the exact moment I started my dislike/distrust of BO, and he’s never done or said anything to change my mind.

One thing I will say about this horrid election cycle is that I’m now learning about the players and the inner workings of the Democratic Party. I can’t say I’ve been that political up until now, so this has been quite an educational moment for me.
