Portland oregon here.... the storm was a whopper.
It reminded me a little of the summer in south Floriduh, which i am happy to have escaped from..."big winds, small greedy mindset"
Susan,Glad to see your up and running again.

No Susan..My Sis just built a house there this year..I'll get out there in a few weeks.
It figures she would move to LaConnor from Seattle cause it would seem to fit her lifestyle.
Now that she has retired from speed boat racing she has thrown herself into environmental issues and helping wildlife.
That's my sister..Always trying to save the world one starbucks coffee at a time.. :)

Everyone is worried -- except the Mort Zuckerman types -- and rightfully so. My daughter, who has a small efficient car, paid $42 to fill her tank. I sent her the news that gas is going up another 15% by the end of the year, according to that Erin ____ of CNBC who appears on "Morning Joe" on MSNBC.

The folks with oil heat, especially in the northeast, are really going to suffer this winter. Well, they say the people with natural gas heat are going to pay through the nose too.

I have electric heat, and often economize by just dressing in layers. I need to buy those energy-efficient bulbs too. Every penny ...

Seattle did have it bad though - 55 mph is more than enough to cause big problems! Per usual, Bellingham and Pierce County (Tacoma) had it the worst -- boy, Bellingham has a nice state college, but they get the WORST weather in the state -- more snow, more cold, more wind, more rain. Ugha.

I love storms usually, but not when they interrupt my Internet! And I couldn't call out ... which was actually quite unnerving because, if I fell or dislocated one of my new hips, I would be so screwed. Sigh.

I even tried to find someone who could call me once an hour but, since I couldn't call anyone or send any e-mail, I wasn't able to. I KEPT praying that someone would call me, but only a couple medical people did -- the physical therapist and the Coumadin Clinic woman -- and I didn't feel it right to ask them for help.

The visiting nurse service did call me this morning to make sure I was okay, and said they were calling all of their clients. I thanked them for that, and asked them to call me back so they could call my daughter and get word to her, but they must have forgotten. Ah well, it all turned out alright!

At one rest home, they had big problems: Lost all electricity, and had several people caught in elevators. I don't think they had emergency generators. Will learn more tomorrow when I get the morning paper.

Perhaps they're counting on more war to keep us quiet as we gather around our little space heaters.

I read that Israel has made another move on Lebanon and then this

Jim Melcher, says he's "worried about a recession. Not a normal one, but a very bad one. The worst since the 1930s. I expect we'll see clear signs of it in six months with a dramatic slowdown in the gross domestic product."

Whoooooooosh, crash, boom,

It was a dark and stormy night......and our hero, Susan, huddled over her type writer, was determined to get the latest word out to all the Bloggers on NQ even though her cell phone was out, her internet access was spotty and the electricity blinked off and on. "I will not let any of this deter me, she mumbled to herself, "in getting out the word of Evil King George and his latest shenanigans." I can always use Morse code with a flashlight" darn, where are those extra batteries? Meanwhile one of her cats knocked something over in the next room ......

Oops sorry Susan, I forgot I was posting on NQ and got carried away.....always wanted to write a story with that beginning.

Maybe the "Nor-wester" is the front end of the major recession that is going to blow in any day now especially what happened in the world markets this past week. Read more from Mike Whitney here...

As I have said before, we have many problems with the Bush Admin, but they will all pale to the howling winds of recession after lean x-mas buying, lower consumer confidence, slower if any home buying and etc. I have a feeling that worry about Iran will be the least of our problems in the next 6 months.

it was dumb of her campaign. I can't imagine she authorized it but they said they won't do it again. Leave it to Johnny Edwards to be the one to point out anything her campaign does ... he's pathetic in his desperation. AND Hililary's speech was great -- she is right that the FOCUS should be on Bush, not each other. I have contempt for Edwards' tactics, which ultimately only help the Republicans.

Sen. Feinstein is causing my California friends a lot of grief. They say that, historically, she has a very good record on civil rights, so they don't understand this latest batch of decisions. She's not up for reelection until 2012. It's rumored Ahnold may run against her. If so, the Dems had better consider a truly hot primary opponent to Feinstein who can not only beat her but also contend against Ahnuld.

Glad you're communicado again! So what do you Washingtonians call those storms? Nor'Westers? :)

Did you catch the story about Hillary planting questioners? Bush does it and then everybody wants to do it! I agree with Edwards on this one: Presidential candidates should be honest with their supporters.

Also, the Senate Judiciary Committee will be voting soon on telecom immunity. Feinstein, that Bush shill, was for it, then maybe against it, and now she's for it again.
