OPEN THREAD (oops, forgot to post one for a while!)

We have until January 13th for you to vote. HERE IS a simple list, suggested to me by one of our readers (!), that you can copy and paste to send in e-mails to friends:

1) http://2008.weblogawards.org/polls/best-political-coverage/
– Vote for No Quarter for “Best Political Coverage”

2) http://2008.weblogawards.org/polls/best-new-blog/
– Vote for Uppity Woman for “Best New Blog”

3) http://2008.weblogawards.org/polls/best-blog/
– Vote for Hot Air for “Best Blog”

4) http://2008.weblogawards.org/polls/best-very-large-blog/
– Vote for The Washington Note for “Best Very Large Blog”

********************************

BELOW: We are learning from many of you that you want to get in contact with each other off the blog. You e-mail us asking us to forward your e-mail address to the other person. Often, we don’t have that person’s e-mail address. Here’s a great workaround:

Rather than asking us to forward e-mails to other people, we would prefer that you create a special account at a service like GMail or Yahoo. Then you can publish that e-mail address without giving away your own personal e-mail address publicly.

THANKS!

And in other news…on Change.gov, the push for holding CheneyBushCo. LLP accountable rose to the number one question. Now we have to see if The One was wasting our time in asking for input.

I for one am SICK and TIRED of hearing how this almightly MESSIAH is going to rectify ALL that now AILS the WORLD yet alone this great country of ours. Just WHO in their right minds are WE as citizens of this country to believe? I HOPE NOT THIS GUY, NOR NANCY PELOSI, NOR HARRY REID! YOU LIBERALS have been drinking FAR TOO MUCH OF THIS GUY’S JUICE! GOOD LUCK IN THE DAYS TO COME!

Oblahma is saying on the news just now that we all have to put a little skin in the game. What? I think people have lost enough so far and don’t need to put anymore “skin in the game”.
I have never heard any public official say such stupid stuff, not even Bush Jr.
    He has no clue.

  • truthtelling007

I’d put Pelosi in the ranks of CheneyBushCo. She might be their PR person..hard to tell.

And FWI. I live about 2 miles from the Halliburton headquarters…well that is before the turncoats moved to Dubai.

ABC News once had the nerve to call them, “the much maligned defense contractor”…and we say there’s a “liberal” bias?
    Sheeesshhh…

    Truthteller…

As much as there has been mistakes with the whole Iraq question investigations and prosecutions of those who have kept us safe means nothing short of NATIONAL SUICIDE!!!

If the United States gets attacked again can I hold YOU personally responsible as we will have shown the world that we are not willing to do WHATEVER it takes to stop terrorism.
Any additional attack on American soil will quickly turn people like yourself into scared little wimps crying out for protection at any cost.
Maybe you can join your traitor friend Overbite underneath the table as you cry out for Bush to protect you.
You need to get a clue. We have not been attacked again and the Iraq war is becoming the type of success which will prevent hundreds of millions dead in the coming resource wars.

  • rolling_thunder

We haven’t been attacked because perhaps the ‘attack’ was staged by Bush insiders to begin with ya think?

Any additional attack on American soil will quickly turn people like yourself into scared little wimps crying out for protection at any cost.

Naw naw naw. Americans will just vote in a Republican in 2012.

Iraq war is becoming the type of success which will prevent hundreds of millions dead in the coming resource wars.

Ya’ think? With all the money spent on the war which is a reason for the tanked economy and the hopeless deficit it is a success? Hmmm. If that’s success then keep it. We don’t need it.
Broke people and countries have NO POWER. Hello?

  • Butch Zero

If the United States gets attacked again can I hold YOU personally responsible as we will have shown the world that we are not willing to do WHATEVER it takes to stop terrorism.

    What does that mean?

The last eight years have hardly been successful and the methods people like Cheney use are more harmful to us than helpful – that is the goal of asymmetric war, forcing the nation into chaos, and destruction, from the inside.

One lil terrorist attack is all it takes.

What is the net effect of the use of torture on the US culture, say, what is the net effect of the wars?

How is our economy doing, not too good, right?

So, we don’t even KNOW if it was Cheney’s methods that prevented another attack, but we DO know the economy, due to a myriad of BAD decisions, some stemming from the wars and how they’ve been fought, have led to it’s devastation.

Was that a terrorist attack, the intended effect of a terrorist attack?

And can I hold YOU responsible, for the horrific decisions to support Cheney?

I suppose all you stinking LIBERALS forgot about the time SADDAM was firing Missiles into the state of ISRAEL???? ARE YOU ALL BRAIN-DEAD? He had the capacity to fire at random, anytime, anywhere, into ISRAEL! ALL you LIBERALS OBVIOUSLY DON’T GIVE ONE DAMN ABOUT THE EXISTENCE OF OUR GOD’S GIVEN LAND DO YOU? ANSWER ME PLEASE!

  • truthtelling007

Dude, take a valium will ya? You are shouting at people blindly. Sure you have the right phone number?

  • Seattle Moss

One lil terrorist attack is all it takes.

That’s right..Your way of life will be completely over with one additional successful attack.
Have you read any of the terror briefings..NO

Obama has read them..He finally said that the first priority is to protect American interests.

Just arm chair quarterbacking right. I bet you were one of those who right after 911 wanted Bush to do whatever it took.
    Things were uncertain back then…Remember?
I never voted for anyone named Bush. However I can now see the Iraq war as instrumental to protecting the world from the coming Armegeddon.
America is strategically positioned in the center instead of on the sidelines of these coming wars.

As for the economy..I’m bullish on America
The rest of the world is collapsing right along with us. Except they don’t have the trillions to invest in a reinvented their countries. We probably were going down, but now the former communist countries are taking such a huge hit that they no longer will be a threat especially with our investments.
As for opening up investigations..Where does it stop…
    I will give you a clue…
Landslide victories for Republicans especially if we are attacked again
Be careful what you wish for..

  • ILBlue

hijacker as a Non-gay person your comment was insulting and “HATEFUL”.

In fact not being an Obama supporter in the tiniest least , your comments in general are full of “Hate”.

What is your problem, why the “Hate” speeches???

I think you need some serious “Anger Management” classed but quick for your own health and the possible health of those around you.

    Seriously please consider it.

  • truthtelling007

Seattle Moss, good point. There are some who gave up the moral ground by thinking, ‘the ends justifies the means’. This is never the moral high ground and is often the source of lawsuits against the government, the police departments, war criminals, and despots.

I feel your pain Hijacker but most here NEVER voted for Obama OR Bush. We support Israel. We support Hillary or Palin.
What can we do? We are on the front lines trying to keep people aware. Calm down.

  • Seattle Moss

I guess if we collapse as a nation and bring the rest of the world down with us causing famine, death and untold other miseries that’s OK because we took the moral high ground to not defend ourselves against those that don’t live by the rules of nations.
I’m also very bullish on Iraq. Years from now they will be rich people thanking the US for destroying Stalinist Saddam.
Investing in Iraq is the new frontier!

    RT
You are understimating the power and size of the American economy..We are a 14 trillion economy the next biggest is Japan at 4 trillion. China is scant 2.7 trillion and Russia is an embarrassing 1.7 trillion.
What caused this collapse is the speculation of assets world wide. That is over for now
Look at India..stock market down 60%
Look at Japan..Deflation for the past 20 years.
Look at Germany and England. 50% devaluation in housing values
    Look at Iceland…Bankrupt.

This collapse will in the Long run be good for America. We are the engine and whatever we do others follow. We have had our problems competing because the playing field is not level. By having the collapse of the rest of the world we get the rare opportunity to reinvent ourselves. This time around we won’t be competing head on with countries that pay their workers nickels.
American manufacturing will be the engine again of the worlds economy..
My company and I are looking forward to this American renaissance.

  • truthtelling007

Truthteller is a different poster. I’m the participle version….

    Kept us safe?
    Who kept us safe?
Absence of evidence here doesn’t give you evidence.

And if you want to hold anyone responsible, you are looking the wrong way, so don’t threaten me buddy.

This administration has done more to alienate our allies and create more problems than they did anything to solve. So get off your might mite garbage and back the fuck off.

You don’t scare me with your “traitor” crap.
Dick Cheney is your traitor. He outed the CIA operation that was tracking nuclear materials in Iran over his personal vendetta.

Take your faux patriotism elsewhere buddy, it doesn’t work here.

I don’t cry for anyone to protect me, that’s your inner child projecting too much.

Why don’t you give me an example of these “attacks” that they prevented. I’ll dice them up as bullshit and feed them back.

All your tripe there is a bunch of bullshit ignorant bravado.

And if you were to step back a little, and don’t forget you don’t know how I reacted on 9/11, nor where I was during the attack, I wasn’t one of the “scared little wimps” you seem obsessed with.

I suggest you take your comments and look at who is really the scared one here. NATIONAL SUICIDE? Hogwash.

  • Seattle Moss

I remember when the North belt was one lane going past empty new buildings in 1982.

  • truthtelling007

yes, I remember when you had to stop at a stop sign to turn from the east side of town to go onto this “north belt”.

  • Butch Zero

Just arm chair quarterbacking right. I bet you were one of those who right after 911 wanted Bush to do whatever it took

    .

And you dont get what your suggesting will do just that?

And no, I wasn’t one of those who thought Bush should do what it takes, I thought Bush was kinda of stupid.

Projecting isn’t healthy for you, I see a lot of confusion from you, and the others.

    Proving my point.

  • Butch Zero

And I didnt suggest we not defend outrselves, I’m saying we need an integrated approach, done intelligently.

    Maybe you dont get it.

It’s my impresion this issue is very complex, perhaps too complex.

Why have we been somewhat succesful in Iraq, while Israel has failed in Gaza?

  • Butch Zero

No, no, I thought it was Israel who staged the attack — or should I say the neocons, in conjunction with Israel?

Part of the new world order, remember?

(ok, who bites and yells : NQ and it’s tin foil hats?)

(I can’t tell you how funny it is to watch them jump –).

    : )

  • Butch Zero

Denial is not helpful, fatal to a country when it’s in power.

Glad you don’t run the US.

  • truthtelling007

I wouldn’t bother. There are some folks who just think they should go out and blow up the world with their Rambo mentality and have no real sense of being an honorable warrior. No person with real honor would applaud the efforts of 5 time deferment king Dick Cheney and his little Champagne prince, George Bush.

I like Seattle Moss, so I don’t want to waste his or my time. (or her, if I’m mistaken). But, just because I want Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, Gonzales, and Pelosi tried for their actions, does NOT mean that I don’t respect in fact even applaud the diligent work of others.

I forget sometimes I have to write here that I breath oxygen otherwise some geniuses here will say I don’t since I didn’t explicitly type here for their edification.

And you know if you don’t take the blogs time crying over every tragedy they can drum up, you don’t care about any of them. It is just the nature of the medium perhaps.

In fact, the only reason we’ve been successful in Iraq at all is because more intelligent minds than the Zealot Cheney have been able to make it happen.

I’d love to strap a helmet on ol Dick and send his ass to Iraq.

  • Butch Zero

American ingenuity, currently ignored by Cheney’s supply side kook theories.

And Obama doesnt seem to get it, either.

  • Butch Zero

Oh for gods sake, so many people have served, doing things far more dangerous than you, sacrificing more than you, and they don’t whine.

    Why are you so special?

  • truthtelling007

understood, but I’ll be honest, I refuse to kowtow to anyone as if that makes me less than them, nor will I discredit his service in order to deal with his extremist view.

    Just a thought.

  • Strawberrybitch

Well, a lot of people got rich off of toppling Saddam, none of whom where any of the thousands of US service men and women who paid for those profits with their lives…not to mention the 10s of thousands of Iraqis who had nothing to do with 911. But hey, your tax dollars are paying for my husband’s disability.

  • Seattle Moss

Just for the record I have been a Bush hater since day one.
On 911.. I attributed some of the karma to Bush’s hubris earlier in the year.
I was against the Iraq war going in and it took until shortly before the surge to start reconsidering my point of view.
In fact I was for Dean based on his opposition to the war.
Times have changed and I look at things for what they are and not what I wish they could have been.
I give credit where it is do.We have not been attacked since surprisingly. If we are attacked on the democrats watch while they are doing investigations it will be curtains for the democrats.
I also give credit to Obama. I didn’t vote for him but he is showing that he listened to all of us who voted against him. Picking Hillary and others show that he will not placate the radical left..Thank you!
Iraq now is an strategic opportunity for the US. The world is getting worse. I’m glad that we are positioned right in the center of all the future conflicts.

  • Seattle Moss

    Butch,
Some have called me the great predictor…
I have been very fortunate on my calls financially.Such as the collapse of housing or oil. The fall of the soviet union or stock collapses. I have been lucky to live all over the world and to study history at great lengths.
I look at events in terms of what will happen years in the future.
I believe that Iraq is the most important strategic decision in history.
Looked really bad for a long time and it certainly is not over.
History will show that it was a brilliant strategy for preventing world resource wars which could be the end of civilization and the death to hundreds of millions. Hard to quantify of course, but I do believe that Bush will someday be viewed as a Truman.
Just think if you were living in 1951 when only 20% viewed truman favorably..where would you be. With the herd mentality no doubt.
My father came to me one day and told me that Truman was one of the greatest presidents in history. At the time of his presidency my father hated Truman

  • Seattle Moss

Yes many have suffered to depose the dictator. Thanks for your husbands service. Future Iraqi’s will thank America for their freedom and inclusion in the American sphere of influence.
    I’m investing in Iraq!

The next gold mine of opportunity.

    Thank you America!

  • Seattle Moss

Anybody that watches Keith Overbite is not working with a full deck.
I guess oiaf was right about you…Pity!

  • Strawberrybitch

Trust me, dude. I’m a liberal and this guy didn’t fool me for a minute. PS Barky is no liberal.

  • Seattle Moss

I guess that’s why you call yourself Zero.
to you America is bad. We pissed off the rest of the world who wish we would just collapse because they are jealous of us. You’re a sucker to believe that we haven’t scared the shit out of those that thought we were a paper tiger. Sometimes fire with fire is the only way to protect ourselfs in a cruel world.
As for me…I wake up everyday manufacturing American products that are essential.I drive an American car and plan on buying another one next week.
Things are going to be tough for quite awhile and I will take the hit like everyone else.
But I refuse to punish my country by having investigations and prosecutions.
As Mark Levin said recently…Go ahead and investigate..Someday republicans will be back in power and they will do it right back again like they did to Clinton
Is that what you really want.A weakened United States where each party prosecutes the other when they get back in power.
Time to stop the suicide and move on…

  • Strawberrybitch

No they won’t. Iran on the other hand may be jumping for joy though. By the way SM your equating the deaths of 10s of thousands of human beings who had nothing to do with 911 just so you can retire comfortably is not a normal human response to human suffering.

  • Strawberrybitch

We were attacked on Bush’s watch…he let Bin Laden escape at Bora Bora. At least Clinton caught the Blind Shiek (the first WTC bombing)and Tim McVeigh. Bush attacked the wrong country and thus creating more future terrorists and empowering Iran. The big winners in Iraq. See http://www.mickware.com and scroll down for Obama’s war. It will chill your prostate. And fighting fire with fire should only be used as a last resort. Military historians will tell you the same thing. Long drawn out conflicts helped topple Rome, Russia and threaten to do so to the US.

  • Seattle Moss

    Straw,
I’m never retiring! I enjoy working and keeping folks working supporting their families.
I believe that hundreds of millions could die if we have wars for resources which inevitably would happen if we were not in the area.
We have Iran surrounded on two sides
We have set up American military infrastructure throughout the region with our base of operations in Iraq.
I think it’s worth the effort even though I was originally against the war.
I guess as a student of history I see the world as a cruel place with winners and losers. Throughout history there has been death do to wars. I think Iraq is a down payment on saving civilization from those that would use oil and petrol dollars to destroy our way of life.
That includes your body building..How much of that would you do if all you cared about was getting food.

  • Strawberrybitch

OMG SM. Winners and losers…it’s great as long as you’re on the winning side but screw the sodding proles, right? Well, as long as you can sleep at night. And you must be an athiest because if you are a Christian with that kind of mind set, you’re going to burn in hell. Rich man getting into heaven, camel through the eye of a needle and all. I’m burning some candles for you as well. Peace be with you.

  • Seattle Moss

Really hard to capture a blind Shiek who stands on a street corner using a bull horn.LOL

Bin Laden is dead..They even used a younger lookalike back in 2004 with additional color in his beard. Bin Laden is 6’6″ and needs kidney dialysis. If he survives it’s in the basement of one of his Saudi admirers.

This is not a police action. This is an ideological struggle between west and east.

As for long term struggles.. Up until the housing collapse the economy for me and the thousands of manufacturers I produce for were doing just fine and I was growing each year by double digits. In fact the past 5 years have been my best..Up until 4 months ago when the bottom fell out of the world economy.
Historians will also tell you that those that think war is bad usually become controlled and enslaved by those that don’t have as big a problem with it.

The bottom line.Iraq is part of America’s sphere of influence and will be forever. This is good especially since Israel is facing Armegeddon for it’s actions in Lebanon and Gaza.

  • Seattle Moss

    Straw,
I actually support the greater good. The protection of western civilization and hundreds of millions of lives. I believe that America is intrinsically good and should use it’s power to shape world events and Geo political power.
I’m a liturgist at my catholic church as well as another denomination.
I sleep really good at night! However I worry about people that never read maps and have no clue about the American sphere of influence and what that really means for all countries in the world.
Hillary fortunately understands the projection of American power and I’m sure she will ignore opinion polls when it comes to protecting western interests.

Obama is going to take on Social Security and Medicare calling it deficit reduction while he spends nearly a trillion and makes Bush’s tax cuts of 3.5 Trillion for the rich permanent. Obama believes that interest groups are the only ones who care about Social Security. If Seniors suffer than we all suffer. Their children will have the extra responsibility of taking care of their Parents in addition to their own children. In these times when we are all hurting this will only make it worse. Obama is clueless when he talks deficit reduction and stimulus in the same sentence. Time for the rich to pay their fair share for a change.

I agree. The dems should have had the courage to do the “right thing” much earlier for the historical record. They were afraid it would hurt their chances ’08. Ironically, now it would look like they’re trying to “rewrite” history. Most Americans know as much about the goings on in Iraq/Afghanistan as they do about BO. Having said this, anything that could move them out of the majority in ’10 is fine with me.

Yep, that’s BOTH sides doing right back like a bunch of 3rd graders. Pelosi is supposedly going to overturn house rules, including open hearings to media/public and the minority party’s ability to amend legislation. This is scary. WOW, some democracy.

Please feel free to spout Malcolm X again.

i’m sure that’s not the only place that gets the finger!

Come on – you’re an intelligent person. You know Bush only went into Iraq to get Saddam because he tried to kill his daddy. He even said as much during the campaign.

Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11.

If you want us to be safe, we need to go after the people who are responsible for 9/11. Osama is still free.

We are still friends with the Saudi’s – where the hijackers came from. Making friends with Iraq doesn’t equal our safety.
