You don’t speak for anyone but yourself. You certainly don’t speak for everyone under 30 or whatever you think the magic age is. It’s quite unnatural for youth and reverence for political figures to go hand in hand. The cult-like worship for authority which is your only perspective is quite characteristic of the older people you scorn.

And what you’re yearning for is the same thing that people for generations and generations have been desperate for: a powerful and all-Good leader who will lead you into Light and Harmony. It’s what drives all religions and cults. It’s fine that you need it so badly — you’re hardly alone — but it’s really a bit much listening to you depict it as some brand new phenomenon that only The Young can understand. There’s nothing new about it.

Of course I’m “concerned.” During the campaign, he repeatedly used the standard language for threatening an attack when talking about Iran’s nuclear program.

Do you think – notwithstanding Obama’s prior commitments — that it’s basically impossible that Obama would attack Iran, even if they seem close to acquiring a nuclear weapon? If so, what accounts for that impossibility?

I know I shouldn’t be, but I nonetheless am amazed at how many people think that Obama should never be criticized, and that anyone who does so, regardless of the merits of the criticism, is being bad.

He’s about to become the most powerful political figure in the world – certainly one of them. His approval ratings are around 70%. The reverence directed towards him in some circles is unlike anything since what George Bush received circa 2002. And yet that’s not enough. He must not be spoken ill of — ever. Even if you praise him one day for something, if you criticize him for something else the next, that is blasphemy.

I honestly find it nothing short of creepy, really. For those whose stomach gets queasy when reading anything that criticizes him, this is not a place to come. Just save yourselves the heartache. Just indulge my suggestion for a second: Call up a mental health professional — just pick one randomly from the phone book.

Thanks for providing the proof — just in case people didn’t believe me — that people really do use these empty platitudes to demand that Obama not be criticized. No circular firing squads. A penny saved is a penny earned. Yes we can.

What we’ve actually had is too little questioning of the President, too much blind support for him, too much power and trust placed in him and the apparatuses he controls that they know what’s best, are doing the right thing, are telling us what we need to know and no more.

For the people who show up here constantly to say how awful and irrelevant what’s written here is, I believe your actions speak a lot louder than your words.

TPM criticism: Could you point me to some of that?

I know that whenever I criticize Obama, I hear from many people — in comments, by email and elsewhere — that Obama shouldn’t be criticized because to do so is to tear him down, help the Republicans, create a circular firing squad on the Left, etc. etc. It happens every time. Anyone who writes and criticizes Obama has the same reaction. There are people making that argument in today’s thread and in the ones from the last two days.

Of course, he was called racist and a Republican.

Give it up, boy bloggers. What will make us less mad is if you convince Obama supporters to stop the sexism, double standards, media/netroots bias and hypocrisy. If you don’t say stupid stuff, we don’t report it. Isn’t that what blogs used to do? The original purpose of blogs was to counter the MSM.

No Quarter won second place for Best Political Coverage beating Daily Kos, Politico, Townhall and Politico. The Confluence won third place for Best Liberal Blog beating Digby, Think Progress, Sadly No, Brad Blog, Orcinus, Truthdig, Taylor Marsh, Shakesville, Crooks and Liars and Glenn Greenwald. Uppity Women won second place for Best New Blog. Deadenders won second place for Best Hidden Gem.

AmericaBlog, Firedoglake, OpenLeft, Tapped, Booman Tribune, et al were not even nominated.

PUMA and Glenn Greenwald are the new progressive blogosphere. We beat him and gave him to idea to criticize Obama but we’ll be nice.

Good job to you and your friends. There ought to be people like yourselves at every appearance Hitchens makes. I can’t stand the guy.

Great post, Susan, and thanks for posting the video you did. I’m glad I missed it on MSNBC (I don’t watch that channel). How that guy (or anyone for that matter) can criticize HRC on her FP experience while not questioning Obama’s experience (in anything) is to me, the epitome of stupidity and not worthy of being taken seriously.

Yes, we are very pleased with second place! We had no chance of winning after Wonkette put her pliant slaves to work defeating us and Uppity Woman.

It was quite astonishing. She told people to vote for that other site that won over Uppity solely because she liked the name of the blog. She didn’t even check out the blog! Her behavior makes a mockery of the entire event.

Imho, these awards should be like the Oscars and Emmys. Only qualified, active bloggers should be able to vote for other bloggers. Just like, with the Oscars and Emmys, only members of the industry can vote. That way, you won’t have any Tom, Dick or Harry voting a hundred times a day simply to make points with Wonkette, who probably doesn’t even care that they exist.

Yes, Daily Kos was nominated in at least three categories, and did poorly in all. They drove off too many people with the crude behavior that is allowed there.

As far as Kerry – don’t understand what was meant by his “smug” could not be wiped off. I couldn’t get over how patronizing he was of Hillary and Chelsea IN LIGHT of his blatant, early (January 2008) support of BO and backstabbing Hillary. Also, the fact that the only position Kerry wanted and reportedly asked for was SoS. He did pretty well as a ‘quick-change artist’ as well as hiding his disappointment.

I have to say I’m impressed by Lannie Davis, who has remained a loyal and steadfast friend to Hillary [unlike many others who were only too willing to throw her to the wolves].

When I hear Hitchens speak about Bill & Hill, I’m reminded of Dick Morris, whose hatred obliterates everything else he might offer up. And where is Hitchens’ glowing spiel for Obama and his judgment in the matter? I thought he was an “O” supporter [though I suspected that was sheer nonsense from the start].

I’m getting so sick and tired of these carping windbags!
