I think that in places like Utah, Idaho, and Alaska there would be organised, mass resistance at all levels of society and government. Probably nowhere else.

Enough with the constitutional lawyer, already. Let's see some examples of the cases he argued with constitutional issues and the law journal articles he published on them. I doubt that 0 knows any more about the Constitution's "weaknesses" than Mechelle knows about fashion.

And the term limits that "weren't law until after FDR" actually weren't law until a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT was approved by Congress and two-thirds of the states, as Andy Lewis mentioned above.

Here's the link I read about this on: http://www.usconstitution.net/constam.html. There are informal ways as well as the legal way of changing it. See what you think.

I specifically looked up this issue, and actually, there are a number of ways to overturn aspects of the Constitution, many of them quite easy, including merely a change in social custom. Term limits weren't law until after FDR, so there's really no reason why we couldn't do away with them from a philosophical perspective. By the way. Don't forget, Obama is a Constitutional lawyer, and if anyone knows its weaknesses, he does.

The thing about Lincoln was that the Civil War started shortly after he was inaugurated, though the media comparisons between Lincoln and Obama like to highlight the unity they both supposedly stand for. I'm not sure the FDR one fares much better. What year did WWII start and when did FDR get elected? I need to look up some timelines on that.

As for the desire to have middle school and high school age children doing community service, I do alot of volunteer work in the community, and we've discussed banning kids under 16 years of age from volunteering for our events because their behavior was so bad, they wouldn't listen to instructions, backtalked if they didn't like what you asked them to do, and one of our hosts felt so harassed by them that she requested they be removed from the event and asked not to return. The kids in question were 11 and maybe 13, and the 11-year-old just sat around filling out a form the attendees were supposed to fill out and didn't do his job. When I pointed that out to him, I got reprimanded by his 13-year-old sister, and that was after the little darling nearly flew bodily through the glass doors because she was running around trying to jump and hit the top of the doorframe. It was a disaster to say the least. But they want to encourage more of this? My coworker with young children had an interesting reaction when I told her about the incident. She looked incredulously at me and said, "They actually thought an 11-year-old would be able to do that job?" She's right, of course.

Thanks! I haven't seen THE PARALLAX VIEW but have heard about it. Can't wait to check it out!

BTW,I also left out ZELIG. (No conspiracy film, just weirdly funny about an omnipresent chameleon character---reminds me of Obama and his rise to his celebrity presidency.)

the case in the courts to do away with presidential term limits

This does not compute. Presidential term limits are in place due to a constitutional amendment. No court could overturn them, because those limits are now quite explicitly part of the Constitution itself.

Did anyone see the burning of obama's picture on savagepolitics besides me? I thought the Muslim world was going to be so impressed with Obama. Not to sterotype, but i really feel there were pocket's of white americans that thought if we elected someone with a muslim back groud they were going to be down with the homies. That radicals would stop attacking us. Instead it seem to me they think Obama is a traitor. If anything happens to this country, i am going to be really tempted to play slap an obama supporter.
