20 Minutes ’til Our Inaugural Counter-Programming + Knee deep in the hoopla + Open thread

(bumped down / listen to the archive at BTR or open your iTunes, subscribe to No Quarter Radio Podcasts, listen via iTunes or transfer the shows to your iPod. [Instructions are in our far-right column.])

Here’s your 20-minute COUNTDOWN to our No Quarter Radio show, “Inauguration Tomato Tossing (Escape the MSM’s all-Obama-all-day-long)” at 7:30 p.m. ET, hosted by me, with guests including our writers American Girl in Italy, our Ani, our economics guru Larry Doyle, and all of you, who can call in at (347) 677-0792.

I’m opening the live chat room @ 15 to 20 minutes before the show starts, so come on over and join in the chat! So get there early, and log in to our LIVE CHAT ROOM.

I’d like to thank Grace Slick & Jefferson Starship for the inspiration for this post.

By the time the sun goes down on the East Coast of these United States today, it will be over. The oaths will have been taken, the speeches will have been made, the bands will have marched and the coronation of His Royal Majesty Barack I …ooops, I mean the Inauguration of the 44th President Barack Obama will be just about finished, except for the balls that night. Now lucky me, I have to work that day so I will miss all of the fawning and bowing done by the main stream media. But many of you will be home, with your TV’s, radios and computers on and we know how you feel about PEBO. So starting at 7:30 tonight, the floor is yours. Welcome to the “Inauguration Tomato Tossing (Escape the MSM’s all-Obama-all-day-long)” hosted by yours truly Jay from “No Topic Taboo…Everything Else with Jay.”

By the time evening comes, everyone round here will be sick of it all so we will open the radio and open the phones for your vent, rant, rave or whatever. You are welcome to call in with questions and comments any time during the show. Dial in to (347) 677-0792 and turn down your computer volume since you can listen to the show for the brief time you’re on hold.

I hope to have some of our NQ writers and other radio hosts join me (hint, hint, this is an open invite) and I have a verbal commitment from LD who will talk about the economy and what lies ahead for the new administration.

But everything is on the table. The events of the day, check. Caroline and the NY Senate seat. Sure. Want to go off politics all together because you are sick of it, why not? It’s going to be your show, I’m just the guy with his hands on the steering wheel. But we can’t do it without your calls or your emails. You can email your comments to me at my show email: ntteewithjay@me.com.

Oh and near the end expect a visit from my friend, The Nocturnal Warrior who will give us a preview of his show that airs at its regular 9PM Tuesday slot. Think of me as the pre-game show for The Warrior, and I plan on joining him on his show…if my voice holds out. I have my regular show to do in my regular Wednesday night slot.

So be there Tuesday, January 20th, 7:30 p.m Eastern Time, a day that no mater what side of the coin you look at will live in history. And then stick around for The Warrior.

20 January 2009 the day the Nation betrayed Martin Luther King Jr.

As a nation we will install today a man elected because of the color of his skin and not the content of his heart.

Our nataion will be sorely tested and I pray that the Lord shows mercy upon us, but as in history a corrupt leader puts his people at great risk.

    • wodiej

      well said.

    • Obama: Dubya II – Electric Boogaloo

Exactly. What’s the content of Barack Hussein Obama’s character?

-Screwed the poor people in his district with the help of Tony Rezko
      -Spent 20 years in a hate-on-whitey church
-Screwed the people of Chicago and IL by being played in a pay to play scheme to rip of the hospitals and teachers pensions.
-Hung around with a domestic terrorist
-Failed to bring any change or hope with an education fund run with known domestic terrorist
-Failed to provide adequate documentation on his trips abroad and his birth.
-While claiming to be anti-war is ramping up for further escalation of violence in Afghanistan and elsewhere
-FISA, was a problem when Bush ran it, now it’s accepted Democratic party policy

      I could go on…

MLK is turning in his grave.

  • beebop

The new number about what is being spent for this fraud is $170,000,000 ….

If you look at NYT, Wapo, LAtimes and the news services, NONE of the 0boreme stories are the most read, most emailed, etc …. hmmmmmmmmmm the bloom is already off the faux rose.

    • wodiej

does this include the cost of all the trash that will be left behind?

      • beebop

Well, at least he won’t let people leave those little American flags behind, right?

        • PKJayne

          170 mill is outrageous.

          • AMERICA R.I.P.

I actually hear closer to 200 Million already. I am outraged. And I can’t mention it to anyone or I get “I think it’s fantastic, SPOILSPORT.” Or, “McCain would have done the same thing.” What a mess. People are losing their homes and this BS is going on. Do we want to take a running TOTAL of what this creep has spent? Like the Greek Toga Party? 100 Million there. That “I rule the world” tour that made us look like idiots? 60 Million there. And the big prize somewhere around a BILLION DOLLARS to get this jerk “selected.” Do the math. This is sooo not worth it. The biggest con job in history. Perpetrated on a bunch of ignorant sheep who thought they were getting weekly rebate checks. It just can’t get any worse. And no way am I watching the mess. Not going to work, in protest, and shutting off any and all news outlets. I will NOT participate in this FRAUD.

If Hillary had been the pres-elect you can bet that she would have been asked to forego the inauguration…because of the economy.

          • What goes around

I agree. That’s a bit more than we’ve spent on the war in Iraq during the course of the past–uh–14 hours…

            • What goes around

Yep. The inauguration has cost nearly half as much as was spent on the bridge to nowhere…

              • beebop

I think you will find that there is NO Bridge to no where little bot … well, there is now, it’s the bridge that leads to the white house ….

                • What goes around

It’s a fine distinction. Instead, Alaska spent the money on a highway that leads to the spot where the bridge to nowhere didn’t get built.

But still, putting things into a non-partisan perspective: For the cost of the public celebration we could have bought everyone in America a styrofoam cup of coffee. And we probably could have gotten the styrofoam cups for the cost of a few styrofoam pillars…

I suppose what we’re all really looking for is a bridge over troubled waters. Let’s just hope future history shows we somehow got lucky.

Sam Copeland hit the nail on the head. If you are a devotee of All-American traditional liberalism, Obama leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

  • Sassy

Some commenters a couple of days ago talked about their feelings of “nothingness”.
Started me thinking…I’m missing something as well.
You know that little skip of your heartbeat, the slight tearing of your eye, your nose starts to run, and that little niggle in your throat, when Old Glory is presented by the color guard?

    • PKJayne

I know it well. That emotion of pride is missing. I feel no pride having seen this man be elected to something that is said to be Historic for our time.

All the pomp is vulgar and undignified.

  • http://none jessiebritton

My daily newspaper is a right wing rag but most of its writers are in the bag for Obama. Every section of today’s paper, with the exception of the classified (including sports) had some kind of glowing praise and remarks about the anointed one. It almost makes you want to puke. This has been going on for days. The only thing I have not seen anything on is whether or not he has “broke win that day” or not. I am starting to think that it may never end and we are in for a cult like environment.

  • PKJayne

Larry and Susan, I have a question.

Why have the recent comments and thread listings to the right moved all the way to the bottom of the blog? Anyway we can get them back up top for easier access?

    Thanks

  • NetherLands

Many media-outlets over here bloviate about BO, too, becoming practically unreadable due to tension-caused.
    So some ‘fun’:
Merry Maryland politico doesn’t care they’re broke cause BO’s going to Washington http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIA2x8jVueA

One of the Inaugeration ‘clergy’ is a female Wahabi whose organisation lost government sponsorship in 2006 because of links to Hamas -seems PEBO welcomes them back into the fold (http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0109/17562.html

I will be working, but, GAG, my workplace will have all the ‘festivities’ on in a conference room, complete with sodas and cookies. HELP!! I need an anti-inauguration party, and I need it now!

Spike Lee- Economic Downturn Ordained to Elect Obama…

PLEASE tell me that Spike Lee did not say what I just thought he said… What definition of ‘Ordained’ is he referring to- the secular one or the religious one?

This can not be for real. If it is…does his opinion serve as an example of the thinking process of most of Barack Obama’s Hollywood supporters?

    • CG

I hope he misspoke; he probably meant “preordained” in that the DNC decided and determined in advance and arranged beforehand that Obama would win the primary. The redundancy is intentional. But then again, he is the messiah…

      • oowawa

Nope, sorry CG. He meant that God set things up, such as the failing economy, so that Obama would win. He was kind of baited into taking that position by Joe, but that’s what he actually went with. It was God who set it up that way, not the DNC.

        • http://firefox AnnieCollier

I think all of the BHO followers believe he was put there by God. I think there were powerful forces more in line with several multi-billionaires who could have helped it along. So manipulation plus the set up of the perfect storm of the housing bubble (manufactured by the Dems) did what God didn’t. Maybe there were unintended consequences but once it began, they used it to the max. I certainly don’t believe it was devine intervention. That’s GWB territory.

    Ayers denied entry into Canada:

    http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/573462

    LOL!!

  • Ted

The question is not IF there will be an interdiction of Obama’s Presidency by the Supreme Court, the questions are WHEN and HOW that interdiction will transpire — that is, if the USA is to continue as the Constitutional Republic that now exists.

    • TJ

I heard that one of the justices did not attend the inaugeration. Any idea as to who this was and why they did not attend?

  • Elsie

I signed up for a Continuing Education class which begins Tuesday, Jan 20. The teacher emailed members of the class to say NAY if we want to go on with the class or AYE if we want to postpone it. Majority in the class wrote in NAY…The inauguration hoopla is not that important, after all.

  • agent flowbee

As it turns out, I had the Whitey tape all along. It was in my VCR.

My bad. Can we have a do over?

  • TJ

Does anyone else think Michelle should have left the drapes hanging on the window? They really did nothing for her appearance today. I guess she was tryig to use material she already had handy to make her new dress for the ball. That thing was just plain scary!!

    • sarahfdavis

Michelle needs two end tables to go with that sofa.

      • Ferd Berfle

        LMAO.

      • beebop

Even my slightly botty sister thought this was funny as hell. Thanks so much to all of you who have not lost your sense of humor during this long and trying day!

    • Ferd Berfle

It’s part of her new “Early-American” line of clothing. But wait, there’s more: It double as upholstery.

      • TJ

Early american and French revolution style together. I think KIng Louis the 14th had a similar item in his wardrobe.

      • beebop

Well, she is standing next to an “auto-man” ….

        • oowawa

OMG beebop, my poor old mother, who dearly loved puns, rolled over in her grave laughing at that one.

          • beebop

Thank you fellow NQer … I could hardly resist such a seamless opening …. ;)

  • I’m a Linda too

And get a load of THIS. Jimmy Carter can’t seem to get along with A N Y O N E!!!

He gives a cold shoulder to the Clintons and he was the one who announced early his support for the O-shit. Nixing any protocol or class.

So who does the slap? CARTER to the Clintons, and ignores them. Did you see how Carter specifically kissed Barbara Bush and won’t even acknowledge the Clintons? Hillary is taking several double takes looking at him back, looking at him, almost appearing to be in disbelief.

    • beebop

Jimmah is somehow under the impression that he is relevant. He is the most boring, least qualified individual to grace the oval office until today. He is a bore and a boor! I am certain that Bill Clinton has been snubbed by better people than Jimmah. Bless his heart.

      • Seattle Moss

Carter was and is the biggest wussy of all time.
He shamed this country beyond belief and made America the laughing stock of the world. Because of him we got Reagan and the dismantling of the great society/new deal along with the rise of terrorism.

The only time I ever voted for a Republican was 1980 and 2008…I recognize retreat and defeat every time!

  • http://firefox AnnieCollier

I didn’t watch the ceremony…God knows you’ll see snippets for the next 6 months…but I did tune in at the end and then to the luncheon in the big hall. The only tear I shed was when the camera caught Hillary talking briefly to the Texas guy who’s stalling her appointment. Got me. This should have been for her. I just don’t know how I’m going to get beyond this guy’s misogyny and insults to women.
