9/11 was a shock in that it was greater than they thought the attack would be.

That is their big secret. They wanted an attack to justify the missile defense shield and a reason to attack Iraq.

We will find this out many years from now, long after Bush is gone and our nation ruined.

By the way, Bush will be staying in office long after his term ends. He will declare a National Emergency and postone elections for our safety. Funny the Iraqi people vote in the midits of car bombs and Americans willbe prevented from voting by something like Bird Flu or some other reason Bush will claim to be a threat.

Let’s not kid ourselves. 9/11 happened for a reason. And that becomes more and more clear with every day that passes and every new scandal that is unearthed. The threat to national security is the rationale du jour for this administration to do anything it damn well pleases. For anyone to believe that this happened by coincidence is utter naivete. Cheney and company were not going to sit on their hands for 4-8 years and let slip by their long-awaited chance to re-shape the presidency and the world to fit their fantastical image. They needed a catalyst. They got it. And likely not by accident.

As John Dean states so well in his latest column today, national security has been used before to justify extra-legal spying (Nixon). And now it’s being used again. But when Bush took office in 2001, there was no national security threat. The cold war was long gone and terrorism was an occasional issue but not one that commanded great attention. Almost nine months later, that national security threat appeared in a flash, and Bush and Cheney and the neo-cons had their tables set.

They couldn’t have planned it any better. Or could they?

I have been trying to educate people that the real threat to the USA (discounting Bush and his sycophants for a moment) is still Russia (and China). And economically, the EU is a FAR greater threat than any external terrorist group. Russia has been building new, very advanced ICBM’s and SLBM’s, with the help of China and the EU. I don’t know about anyone else, but the thought of China and Russia and the EU collaborating is far more scary than ANY non-proven, possible, terrorist threat.

The EU is about to put into place it’s own GPS system (Galileo) which is superior to the US GPS system (and not under US control!!) The Galileo system will be a boon for business everywhere, even US companies will benefit from it and dump GPS. Thanks to Bush, Russia now has the ONLY booster capable of launching a large payload into deep space.

The list of threats to the USA is long. And terrorism is only one item, and I don’t believe it even belongs in the top part of the list.

Here is some useful info to bear in mind. The most significant change in Russia’s defence strategy as of 2000, is the removal of the “no first-use” pledge regarding Nuclear weapons, since Bush has made first-use acceptable now.
