Obama should have taken the oath with his hand on his teleprompter. Seems kind of fitting really.

How would anyone know how smart he is? No one has read any of his work, seen his grades, etc. His IQ is supposedly 138 which isn’t exactly stellar. The problem is none of us know anything about a guy who has hidden records, reads other people’s words from a teleprompter, and disguises or hides all of his personal stuff.

In a weird sort of way, it made both Barack and Chief Roberts seem more human. Imaging…the most watched event in TV history since the moon landing; two billion watching worldwide…and you totally F it up!

I have a different take on it. I agree with NPR, which did a very amusing report on the entire matter. One reason they re-did the oath was because several constitutional law scholars across the country thought it was the prudent thing to do. Other such scholars didn’t. But i think it was wise to do so.

For one thing, Roberts — unlike Rehnquist — did not have the oath on a card with him, and did it from memory. Roberts screwed up the placement of the word “faithfully” — putting it at the end of the sentence. I think that, possibly, Obama knew that, and that that is why he hesitated in replying. Why didn’t Roberts bring a card with him with the oath on it? Why rely solely on his memory? Doesn’t make sense to me. Here’s a very brief summary of the NPR report, and a link to the audio:

See, I think that Obama KNEW that Roberts got the words out of order, and that’s why he hesitated. Then he got thrown off and, perhaps, he got a case of nervousness about the whole thing, and just decided to get it over with? I don’t know. Just guessing. But I’m just as sure that everyone here will disagree with me. Heh.

However, if my version is the correct one, that means that Obama DID study the oath before the ceremony and knew that Roberts got it wrong.

Are you referring to his Columbia and Harvard transcripts? True he has not released them but both institutions confirmed he graduated. Don’t believe me? Call the Office of the Registar at both schools in the morning. Graduation records ARE public information…ask any employer. May cost you $10 bucks for processing fee.

Also you need a law degree to take the IL bar (and his law license is public information).

The Associated Press has learned that President Barack Obama plans to sign an executive order Thursday to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center within a year and halt military trials of terror suspects held there.

In any normal, decent “democracy” that meeting would have been a “conflict of interest” because there are so many lawsuits in SCOTUS against him. Here is an interesting fact: Obama did not take the oath of office until about 12:04 (they were running late): I believe Biden took the oath of his office around 12:01. The Constitution states that the office of the President and Vice President ends at 12:00 noon on the 20th of January. Therefore we were without a President of the United States for a period of approximately four minutes.

Question then becomes who is acting as President during this brief period of lack of leadership? Not the Speaker of the House nor the President Pro Tempore of the Senate because they would have had to resign their respective seats prior to become acting President. Section 19(d)(1) of the Presidential Succession Act provides **** Secretary of State. Her/his term doesn’t end at high noon.

Therefore, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice was momentarily the Acting President of the United States, our first African-American President.

Monday January 19, 2009 at 10:20 pm I was eating dinner and watching the KCAL Channel 9 Los Angeles California, News Report and they were talking about Barack Obama’s Inauguration tomorrow. There was a photo of Obama and one female reporter said the words ”his immigrant background” suddenly the camera cut from the photo of Obama and the other female reporter said” we won’t go there”! They then went on reporting as though nothing was out of the ordinary.

This confirms to me that there is a vast Democratic conspiracy to overthrow the Constitutional form of government established and replace it with a yet to be determined form of government and a person not qualified to sit as a U.S. President who is a foreign national!

What does it take for those in power to stand up and do the right thing? Are the Republicans also in on this conspiracy to overthrow our government and constitution?

Wasn’t your original question what records has BOBO hidden? A call to the registrar isn’t going to get me the records he has hidden. (LMAO) They’ll just inform me that the records will remain hidden.

The order of the words does not matter. Even the launch codes don’t have to be exact, just close enough for government work is all that is required to nuke another country. There is no point in being overly picky concerning matters of such importance.

No, the schools won’t release them. But they will tell you if the person attended, dates of attendance, whether they graduated and some schools will indicate what their concentration/major was. I worked in Human Resources for 10 years and requested many of these type of records. All it takes is a filling out a simple form and sending it and a check written to the school. Go for it!

What else could one glean from those records? If he was a terrible student it is unlikely he would be admitted to Harvard Law nor become head of the Law Review.

Barack doesn’t release these records for the same reason other politicans do not either…they are used to score cheap political points by the opposition.

I agree, Susan. Flubbed oath or not, Roberts’ or Obama’s mistake, Bush’s ability to do it right– once, twice–is not the point. At least, not the important point.

So, Bush said the words perfectly. He was still a one of the worst Presidents of “my” living memory [and I remember Nixon and Carter]. And it takes no “brilliance” to repeat a oath [I personally think Obama's "brilliance" is undocumented and totally untested].

So, we shall see. Frankly, I think the idea of repeating the oath [just to eliminate the dish that that, too, was illegitimate] is a good thing.

But Barack Obama’s reputation will live or die on what he does from this day forward. I personally think that stirring the waters on the “small” stuff is not the way to go. I have little faith in what Obama will bring to the table. I’m still the unflagging skeptic.

But judge him on the important matters, the things that impact ordinary folk and the world at large. To do otherwise is petty and unproductive. And, in the end, it makes our voices seem hysterical, nothing more than the discounted noise of cranks.

That may not be a popular stance. But my instinct is: save your ammunition for when it really counts. Otherwise, no one will listen, even when it’s real and true.

There was a post here a few months back about a professor friend of BO’s at Columbia who taught classes about mind control, mass hypnosis or something like that. When I saw the oath being given on a recap of the day’s news the impression I got was that Obama knew Roberts had misspoke the oath and was kind of thrown by the mistake for a moment. It was in essence a comedy of errors. Roberts should have had his cheat card in his hand. I felt sorry for both of them because I don’t think Roberts had any ulterior motive and Obama was caught up in the excitement of the moment.

His book, Dreams of MY Father, contradicts some of the claims made by his campaign. Actually, UBM, Hillary’s thesis has been available for eight years and if you had read her thesis, you would know she rejected Alinsky’s theories in favor of working inside the system instead of destroying it. She also turned down the job he offered on the same basis. Someone as smart as you so clearly are should know a thesis can be a counter argument. It is common in science to make an assumption in order to prove the negative.

Read the U.S. Constitution before you make comments that show your ignorance. The oath must be followed word by word before any elected individual can take the office of the presidency. There’s no question that because Bush ceased to be president at noon yesterday. Twentieth Amendment to the United States Constitution, Section 1.
The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.

Uh huh. That’s right. That means that the term of office for the president begins at noon on the 20th day of January at the moment his or her predicisor’s term ends, oath or no oath!

Article 2 of the US Constitution only says that the President must take the oath “before he enter the Execution of his Office”. So, in other words, he must take the oath before he can excersie the office of President, but he still president irregardless.

Clause 8 of section 1 just says:
“Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:

“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”

It says nothing about him having to speak his name or say “So help me God” at the end: Those are traditional utterences, and are not actually part of the oath as laid down in the Constitution. Also, the Constitution says NOTHING about how he has to take the oath, just that he has to “take” it. It doesn’t mention anything about the words being exactly repeated, it doesn’t actualy say anything about him repeating the words as someone else reads them to him.
