Sir Nose-D-void of funk has always been the arch enemy of the various Clinton personalities. His main purpose is explained in his name. He represents jozepal, Stodgie, and those who unthink like them.

"Pinocchio Theory:
If you fake the Funk, your nose will grow.
Thus Sir Nose

Placebo Syndrome:
The condition of being terminally unfunky driving humans into perpetual do-loop or deep snooze, fuzzy logic and hatred.
Thus Fuck George

Jozefal, maybe Clinton was anti-crossover because he suspected mainstream audiences wouldn't "get" the P-funk sense of humour and interpret things in a reactionary fashion.
Which would make a lot of sense, judging by the comments from stodgie and the like.

<em>"Whose brilliant idea was it to get Clinton and his group for this particular gig? ... Sure, he’s a big name, but would anyone really expect the audience to enjoy themselves?"</em>

Well looky here, JozefAL, at what the <a href="http://www.armytimes.com/news/2009/01/military_heroes_ball_012109w/" rel="nofollow">Army Times</a> reported on Wednesday about the Heroes Red, White and Blue Inaugural Ball:

"George Clinton brought on rarely seen Sly Stone with his group, and was a big hit with the troops, many of whom flocked forward to the stage."

JozefAL: So now Parliament-Funkadelic is an "anti-white" band? Please.

Funkadelic emerged in 1968 as a hippie-looking rock 'n' roll band in Detroit. George has always said of Funkadelic that it was "too black for white radio, too white for black radio."

Clinton has <em>never</em> rejected white audiences. Or white musicians either. (Ron Bykowski, Dennis Coffey, Rick Gardner, Larry Fratangelo, Muruga Booker, Danny Bedrosian...)

Funkadelic used to gig and hang out with the MC5 and Iggy & the Stooges. In fact, George and Iggy Pop once concocted a half-baked publicity stunt whereby they'd announce that George and Iggy were going to marry each other!

In recent decades, P-Funk has had a major following in Europe, particularly Amsterdam. (Japan too, for that matter.)

In the 1980s, George declared public (to me, among others) that he thought European funk bands would carry the funk forward. He was a fan of Kajagoogoo, and he collaborated with Thomas Dolby on a few tracks.

George has also collaborated with the likes of Paul Shaffer and Warren Zevon, and he produced an early album by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

P-Funk's anti-"crossover" posture has always been about aesthetics, not race. (Compare Kool & the Gang's "Ladies Night" to "Funky Stuff" and you'll know what I'm talking about.)

I'm hesitant to even comment on this, but as they say, "fools rush in . . . ."

Basically, I agree with you, JozefAL.
I like George Clinton & Funkadelic & Parliament & Bootsy & that whole era of funk music. I don't think it was a good choice for the Heroe's Ball. On the other hand, these groups are not as blatantly offensive as many of the rappers who came after. As far as the F- George routine--not a surprise. Early funk music embodies an ongoing pun-joke between the words funk & f---. It's everywhere. And, in fact, it could very well have been an intra-band dig at George Clinton. But overall, it was a bad choice of bands to play for that particular ball. This should be the most traditional of all the balls. You wouldn't want a punk or heavy metal band playing that venue either. There are heroes of all races. Let's find something everyone is comfortable with. Or so I feel.

Why, exactly, was Clinton and his P-Funk All-Stars playing at the Heroes Ball anyway? Were Kool and the Gang and Earth, Wind and Fire unavailable?
I mean, Clinton and his P-Funk conglomeration came to the forefront because of a decidedly anti-establishment, anti-white sentiment. Clinton always stated that his music was never intended for white audiences, and if they were offended by some (or all) of the lyrics, then fine. He was also highly critical of Black groups (like Kool & the Gang and EW&F) who reached out to crossover to white audiences, even to the point of developing official "rivalries" with those groups (most often by slamming them in P-Funk lyrics).
Whose brilliant idea was it to get Clinton and his group for this particular gig? I could understand Clinton signing on for something a bit less "uptight" but this is like having Tim McGraw headline at an NAACP fund-raiser. Sure, he's a big name, but would anyone really expect the audience to enjoy themselves?

silly shit? hmmm, why don't you post something about the welfare of the average american. show some respect here for the feelings of the people who helped build this country and love the flag and all that goes with it.

i see great concern about this group and that group all the while ignoring the so called bitter people clinging to their guns worshipping on sunday who are damn worried about whether they can pay their bills. i worry about them and am sick and tired of seeing people thinking they are special all the while damning their fellow americans and calling them names ranging from ho's for women to fxxx george. i don't like bush but i don't like the attitudes i describe above more than that.

so please write with passion about joe sixpack in middle america who is getting screwed. then we can communicate.

Truth Telling is concernced about language regarding “new commander in chief” and apparently old.

I am not in the military.

Barack Obama is not my commander in chief. He is the president.

The Constitution clearly states he is only commander in chief of the military.

The US is not a junta, yet.

I honestly don't care what anyone says about Barack or Bush. I do agree that the sign didn't belong at a non-partisan event.
