ABC’s report on Hillary’s first day * Wide Open Thread

It’s a great, if brief, report from an excellent reporter, Martha Raddatz. (Thanks to Truthelling007, who posted this video at our NoQuarterUSA YouTube channel.)

I think we all were blown away by the huge, spontaneous swell of enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton from her new employees at the State Department. Those employees acted like they’d been prisoners in a gulag for the past eight years, and that they’d suddenly been set free!

BELOW is a GREAT video of the president and vice president’s visit and announcements with Secretary Clinton:

This is another superlative video from reader G., who’s been sending me these State Department videos all day on Thursday:

“Susan, this video of the State Dept. meeting, includes the entire event, including Biden, who really praises Hillary.”

I can’t wait for more reports to come out, and hope — hope! — the media do a great and fair job reporting on Hillary’s many endeavors.

And I hope that we get coverage of Hillary’s visit tomorrow to the staff at USAID, which she mentioned today that she’ll be visiting on Friday.

If you missed the earlier, great video that G. found and sent to me, go here and ENJOY!

She will do ALL the work and he will take ALL the credit. Hillary should have stayed far away and let him wallow in his own shit.

    • jd4hill

Yes, but most unfortunately, then all of America would be wallowing in it, too. And undeservedly so. It is particularly unfair to those who did not choose him.

    • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

Maybe she knew what a complete and total fake he is and decided somebody needed to save the country from him. This way, she can keep an eye on him.

      • mary

Yes, but did you look at his “flipping-off” his SOS one more time!? What a jerk! Does anyone have a close up of his FLIP-OFF? He’s lifting his middle-finger, like the middle-schooler this punk really is, and saying “I give you a gift, Hillary Clinton”>…Is Bill paying attention to this. Or, even better, NOW, Womens Media, etc.////?Anybody care that this presidential junkhead is a recidivist insulting his own SOS and his own Office!!!!! What a punk….Alice Palmer supported Hillary cause she had her own bitter experience with this Hawaiian piece of Sharia Law Shit! Send him over to Odinga his couz billionaire slumlandlord now co-Prez of the Fatherland ….jerk…I am really mad watching this ShitPerv insult his own Office! SHAME ON BARRY!

Whistleblower: NSA Targeted Journalists, Snooped on All U.S. Communications

“The National Security Agency had access to all Americans’ communications,” he said. “Faxes, phone calls and their computer communications. … They monitored all communications.”

Tice said the NSA analyzed metadata to determine which communication would be collected. Offering a hypothetical example, he said if the agency determined that terrorists communicate in brief, two-minute phone calls, the NSA might program its systems to record all such calls, invading the privacy of anyone prone to telephonic succinctness.

Tice was involved in only a small part of the project, that involved trying to “harpoon fish from an airplane.”

He said he was told to monitor certain groups in order to eliminate them as suspects for more intense targeting. Those groups, he said, were U.S. journalists and news agencies. But rather than excluding the news organizations from monitoring, he discovered that the NSA was collecting the organizations’ communications 24 hours a day year round.

    • truthtelling007

Here is the interview with former NSA analyst, Russel Tice:

Historically, Intel services have used journalists. Tactically it makes sense. Unless of course you are Karl Rove and you are shoving earwax up Tim Russets “inner ear”.

From a national security perspective the public doesn’t know even a 10th of it.
It has been going on for decades, in one form or another.

Second, there is no expectation of privacy when using ANY electronic communication device in the United States.

If it were not so, why was the Secret Service so nervous about BO’s Blackberry? I has already been hacked once.

On principle, the violation of my constitutional rights as it pertains to FISA and secret courts is disgusting. Intel wise it is a different story.

All Bush did was codify and acknowledge (needlessly) the fact our Government spies on it’s citizens without regard to the law and will continue to do so.

Welcome to the brave new world.
      Now what?

Hillary Rodham Clinton is a rare patriot, and a shining example to us all. God bless her.

  • Touchet

I FRIGGIN LOVE Hillary. I am one scorn bitter gay man! Obama shall feel the sting of the queens next election!

    • mary

      Touchet

Great sentiment!…Obama is a sicko homophobe who invites creep Warren at his inauguration! I prefer Uncle Jeremiah: “Obama’s just anotehr typical politician”….great and true!

  • Touchet

Oh forgot my comment. I wonder how Mellisa Etheridge is dealing with her man and his GLBT stances.

  • elise

Hillary has so much grace and dignity. It seems the State Dept realizes it has hit the jackpot.

    • mary

yES! Grace – Dignity – Compassion – Intelligence = Hillary! The world is blessed with her where she now is…She is one in a billion…and we need her.
      THANKS for this great post/vid…..

  • socalannie

Hillary was fabulous today, wasn’t she? She handled that conference masterfully. I think she’ll be an amazing SOS. I’m so impressed that I’ll even say that ‘Bama & Biden spoke well.

    • DisenfranchisedVoter

No, that was seriously the first time I think he’s spoken well but he still needed to read most of it off of a sheet of paper. Hillary has all of the knowledge in her head to give a speech like she did this morning to her employees. Obama will never be able to do that.

      • socalannie

I noticed that also! Bama & Biden looked constantly at their notes & Hillary rarely did!

        • Judy L. NC

Yeah, you take away the teleprompter and all w see are the tops of their heads.

That over with, Hillary was great and I’m hoping she can make these kids behave themselves.

  • socalannie

Oh, for anyone who hasn’t seen this yet…funny Jon Stewart clip, comparing Obama’s inaug speech to GWB’s:

    http://www.thedailyshow.com/video/index.jhtml?videoId=216538&title=changefest-09-obamas-inaugural

    • Judy L. NC

Well, that made me want to have a good cry.

  • DisenfranchisedVoter

I only hope that Clinton plans to run for president again in 2016 and that she’s made a deal with Obama that when his time ends either in 2012 or 2016, he will endorse her for president. I will give her my vote at any age.

Just wondering why Obama was there, at all. Perhaps it’s customary, but it looked like He knew she was the hottest ticket in town, so to speak, and was trying to steal her thunder. Did the crowd seem more excited for her than for Him? I say this because, they appeared to cheer passionately for her but clapped politely for Him. On a clip I saw on YouTube a woman yelled out, “We love you Madam Secretary” (or something very close to that). I was so happy to see Hillary finally appreciated, like that. She’s our nation’s real president while Obama’s the fantasy president for the Obamanation.

    • http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/video/2009/01/21/VI2009012101557.html?sid=ST2009012101096 trixta

I was referring to the YouTube video when she first entered the State Dept. building this morning, when everyone cheered.

    • mary

      trixta

I saw the whole 10=minute full video that Susan has posted in today’s No Quarter (another post I think?) and I heard two women yelling at times “We love you HIllary!” very very loudly and clearly!!!She was beaming!!!!

Most important, I do think Mitchell and Holbrock(sp?) will work with Hillary versus Susan Rice. Hopefully Rice will have her plate full and find a way to work with Hillary.

I suspect Hillary will find a way to remind Ms. Rice that the UN mission is one of communiations of Policy and the President and SOS set policy. That said, Hillary is the most intelligent and pragmatic of them all, she understands power and will effectively be setting policy for the United States.

Other countries will recognize that fast and learn not to go around her.

    • fif

Mitchell defended Hillary’s work in Ireland when the Obama campaign tried to belittle and dismiss it. He spoke out and said she was extremely important to the peace process there. I think they will collaborate well together. Don’t know about Holbrooke.

  • BARB

The other POV from former (?) Hillary supporters:

    http://clintondems.com/2008/11

Working as Obama’s SOS would only strip Senator Clinton of her political power and keep her influence out of the Senate. Also Senator Clinton would lose her opportunity to challenge Obama in 2012 or 2016; when he fails as President.

The only one that benefits from Senator Clinton as SOS is Obama. Even the U.S. Foreign Policy would not benefit due to the fact that foreign policy will be determined by Obama, not the SOS. Senator Clinton would be blamed for Obama’s foreign policy failures.

SOS would be good for BO, bad for Hillary. To take SOS, Hillary would have to resign her Senate seat. Then she would have to keep quiet and follow BO’s orders for a while, till that became impossible. Then she would quit or be fired — and be without a job.
She could not even try to get her seat back till 2012. If she’s been replaced by a Democrat, she would not want to challenge that Democrat. If by a Republican, she’d have to fight for her seat. SOS or any job for Obama, might sound like an honor but in fact would be a way to get her out of the Senate and keep her quiet and maybe get rid of her altogether.

    _________

Hillary will be no more than another mouthpiece for Obama…like Albright, Powell and Condi before her.

  • lowdowndog

Check out the ABC video at :55 seconds video when Obama says, “I give you an early gift, Hillary Clinton.” He raised a finger to scratch his nose. Can anyone get a close up to see if it’s his middle finger? I’m beginning to suspect that scratching his nose is a “tell” that signals contempt for Hillary and solidarity with the Hillary haters. “Come on, he’s just scratching his nose for crissakes,” say the Obots. Of course it’s easy to deny, but I think he just can’t stop himself from being a smartass and it leaks out.

    • mary

      lowdowndog:

Where is the :55 sec. video you referenced here with Odrama scratching his face again with midfinger? I can’t find it!!!
      thanks

Do you mean the day after the Pa. ABC debate when he complained about HIllary throwing hte sink at Him? don’t tell me this is a New insult by Oblama!

    • mary

      Yes, thank you!

I just watched this PRESIDENTIAL PUNK flip-off his SOS–and his Office!–by flip-offing her like a middle-schooler! Incredible recidivist, aint’ he, the Boy from Nowhere.

His fave boy-punk the Sexist (promoted to Director!) Jon Favreau must have written that lifeless, unmemorable piece of crap masqurading as “Speech”!

  • Peggy Sue

Well, I agree with jd4hill on this one. Hillary will do a great job for all of us and she’s got terrific people working with her. She sounded and looked great in this clip–grace and dignity. Go Hill!

Thank you for the post, Susan.

  • Mandelay

Very uplifting post, Susan, many, many thanks for showcasing such a high point to the week. So proud of Hillary!!!!!!

    • mary

      Yes, indeed!

Most uplifting post here…and much-needed, Susan. Hillary’s beaming….the new Dawn lifts the Fog out of Foggy Bottom…thanks

    NEED HELP:

do any of you remember, after primary, Obama standing in Indiana giving a speech? (Hillary was in PA.) Obama talked extra loud and looked out into the far-reaching audience. There were many people behind him holding signs, and he was in a vast gym–HUGE.

A special photograph came out of the event, and the entire place was empty except the hundred or so people behind him. It was shocking. A photographer actually went to the farthest and highest opposite point of the gym to take that photo and show that it was all just media propaganda and political engineering.

See, cause when I watched him on TV…it seemed like 60,000 people were present. The way he looked out…to no one.

    _______________

I think No Quarter posted that image, and now I can’t find it anywhere at all.

    • mary

Yes. Smoke and mirrors for Odrama The Teleprompter guy… all the way. He’s the brand. HIllary will be doing the work.
Look at the lengthier video posted by Susan today! Wow! How did she ever get all 10 minutes plus of Hillary-time at Foggy Bottom?!!!!

  • Maria3

    Barack fools us

Whole world will pay for America’s electoral mistake

“A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey, the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the mainstream media who abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. ”

With the level of experience, maturity and talent on that stage, Obama looks like a little kid. How is it that HE is the President out of these distinguished and LONG TIME public servants? Hype and marketing & the “historic” nature of it all. He’s a figurehead. Nonetheless, these seasoned professionals give me a sense of respect and confidence. I think they will make a great team.
