Mental illness. The Bard wrote stories about it and Dowdy is seriously affected by it and projects on others - especially those who have earned respect.

Ole Dowdy would know about not paying dues, but why the need to project that on Hillary Rodham Clinton?

Jealousy - plain and simple.

Dowdy is so contrived from her hair hanging in her face to her affected voice it won't be long before she makes her way to the secured community where she can live out the rest of her fantasies.

Cultural name dropping is not a substitute for thought or common sense

Or emotional dysfunction.

Speaking of, I saw Obama on the news this morning, trying to respond to Clinton's new ad.

Obama was claiming Hillary's ad to be simple fear mongering, as the phone never rings at 3:00 am in the white house with a world crisis, really, it doesn't, Hillary is just making that up.

Obama=Moron.

And speaking of fear, the Bamster is looking a little dissociated.

Pressure got to him?

Give just one example of a Shakepsearian reference in any of her columns. Then explain how it illuminates her point.

David,

Pay a little more attention to what Dowd is doing.

This from SFGate 2004:

"Her style infuriates some and delights others, as does her free range of cultural references, drawing on everything from Shakespeare's tragedies (her college specialty) to Orwell to Hollywood comedies..."

M.Dowd feels that no man can possibly live up to her high standards. She despises all women, not just Hillary. She cannot comprehend that lots of women actually like men.

Was your comment real or tongue in cheek? What Shakespearian themes or any other literary undercurrents are in Dowd's work that the rest of us are missing?

Dowd's obsessional, irrational, interest is the Clinton marriage, John Edwards haircuts and other nonsense makes one wonder if she has a life of her own. Would Dowd hate Hillary less if she had left Bill over his infidelity? Does the fact that they seem to still care for and about each other drive her to these fits of irrationality and pettiness? And why does she care? As for those that chose to obsess over John Edwards haircuts I have long since relegated them to the irrelevant nitwit file in my life.

That's total bullshit. Hill has paid more dues than any of you anti-hill whiners ever will, and there's nothing wrong with using your connections, regardless of your gender. Dowd has long had a personal animus towards both Clintons, which can no longer be taken seriously, and as far as nepotism and cronyism, Ms. Dowd is living in a glass house.

This article is a very detailed analysis of Dowd's that hits on a lot of her hot buttons. Back in September Dowd coined the phrase Nepotism Tango to describe the leapfrogging Hillary took over the traditional career arc of a politician.

Hillary asks for a lot of power without having paid a lot of dues.

thanks, David.

Yes, I've written this twice today. I admire Bill Clinton because he never apologized for his upbringing, for being poor, for the way his mother dressed. He was ultimately comfortable with who he was. It must annoy the hell out of self-important Washington insiders to see that Bill doesn't have a "I have arrived" awe of Washington. From day one, he cared about his work and he still does. Hillary is like that too.

I love Hillary. She is talented, smart, has fabulous work ethic. I think she saw Bill for who he was. You may find this point hard to believe, but Bill hasn't been absorbed in bullshit. Seems counter-intuitive. But he is really, really intelligent. He understands the difference between social decorum, having different personas (which we all have, in different social settings) and the true self. He understands that you may attend cocktail parties/clubs as part of what you do in life, but it's not the definition of life itself. Yes, I got the sense that Bill always wanted to be President. But I never got the sense that he wanted it to shake hands with Other Important People and have dinners with them. In his relationships with people like Mandela, you have a sense that he really connects with them, and these are not your typical low information, emotional voters. These are intelligent, sophisticated people. Hillary has it too.

The Washington crowd doesn't get it. You think after 7 years of Bush, they may just be jolted into reality and realize that this is not a fairly town, but some actual place where the decisions have wide-ranging consequences. No. They are STILL obsessed with trivia. You already notice that her passionate, on the mark, wonderful comeback on John Edwards is being described as angry and shrill.

It's Al Gore sighing all over again.
