Fox All-Stars On Obama’s Bill

Barry needs a lifeline. I saw this interesting idea on spending a trillion dollars at Seeking Alpha:

The R’s are right on this one. Most of us who have a reasonable amount of knowledge about economics know how this mess began. The point is to dig our way out of it. Cut those mortgage interest rates, cut business taxes and have an income tax holiday. That will put money into the economy immediately. Anything else is pork.

This bill is a Abomination and should be killed in the Senate. It’s disgusting and wasteful. VOTE NO.

I agree. Hey what happened to Harry, he get sleepy and have to go take a nap?? He said he was staying up to burn the midnight oil to get a bill passed. Then before 9 last night they all went home.

I think O’s credibility is on the line here, what little he has. First of all, why didn’t he write the bill instead of Pelosi? Why didn’t O sit down and read the entire thing and highlight all the crap he wanted out of it. Then sat down w Pelosi, Reid and the Republican party leaders and say “this pork has to go, give me some more ideas”. But this is what happens by electing the once most liberal Senators in Congress.

I hope it doesn’t pass. I heard phones in the Senate were ringing off the hook people for and against the bill.

The housing crisis led to the bank crisis which shut down credit, consumer spending came to a halt so people lost their jobs which exacerbated the housing crisis.

Everyone who has paid attention knows mortgage loans are the nexus. Yet very little in this stimulus package addresses the root problem. There is a solution, but they are like chickens with their heads cut off, running around adding pork trying to buy or extort votes and nothing gets done.

Obama’s speech last night was so much like Bush, all he needed to do was cut and past, substitute economic catastrophe for terror attacks and read teleprompter. He learned Bush/Cheney speak before he learned how to handle press releases. Use a crisis, inflate the crisis, declare imminent Armageddon and do what you want while people are distracted by the rhetoric.

In the meantime, a serious problem is left unsolved and our future is going down the drain.

Since the economy hit the wall over housing, why not try fixing the housing problem, first. How hard to understand this can this be?

First of all he should READ the whole bill — and then once he really understands what is in the bill — he needs to have someone explain the cause and effect of various pork junk in the bill.

THEN he should have been personally calling and WORKING.

And YES the Republicans are right this time — the problem started with the homes — and this is where the cure for the ailing economy will be found.

I was seriously offended by his speech. How bombastic can he get standing there in front of a group of Democrats. No wonder Nancy got her bill passed – she had full support by him to push through anything they wanted and the GOP be damned.

The bill as it stand is an Obamanation. It needs to be broken up and just the parts that offer immediate or short term stimulus passed now.

Many of the things the Democrats are trying to hide in this stimulus bill are actually good things that I can and do support. I just find their dishonesty in hiding them in a stimulus plan reprehensible.

And would someone please tell me why we have to cut away from a discussion to watch Obama depart Air Force One? Do they doubt his ability to do so?

I always found the endless clips of Bush, Clinton et al disembarking tiresome too. Nonsense and not just my admitted loathing for his Oliness having anything to do with my boredom with watching some man get off a plane.

The republicans aren’t offering anything either. Cutting interest rates does not compel the bank to give a loan. Cutting interest rates does not compel the bank to rewrite mortgages. People are loosing their houses now. One in ten are behind or in fore closure. Everything offered is for “new home owners”, who won’t qualify for the loan because the bank will not loan to them. Cutting taxes will not help.

People will horde their cash and it will not get into the economy. Where is Hillary Clinton’s program????? Hillary Clinton offered to only solution to existing homeowners

Let me take a crack at a guess … because hard work is not part of his history? Having others do it and him putting his name on the final product is business as usual for him?

To readers here who have a little memory. Remember during the primary Hillary was offering ” Solution to the America’s Problems….” from the economy to the American’s standing in the world. In fact, she gave detail point by point solutions. Ofraud was reading a speech from a telpromoter. Now two weeks into the job, Ofraud in already in front of the TV apologizing for his fucked ups….. ” I screwed up”. Have you seen Hillary lately, Polished as gold, doing her thing over there in Europe, Asia and all. I mean what a classy lady. Can you imagine Ofraud doing the what she’s doing, representing American to the world leaders? On the other hand, Hillary would have written that bill herself. She would have gotten McCain and Graham on that bill in no time. Remember she worked with them on major legislations in the past. Is there anyone R that Ofraud worked with to accomplish anything when he was in the Senate? What a waste. Just thinking about it makes me sick.

This is what a country gets, when it votes in celebrity over experience. BO doesn’t know how to govern. Governance is difficult. It isn’t just a matter of holding rallies and giving speeches. It takes the ability to negotiate from a position of strength and wisdom, not a position of a three year old throwing temper tantrums or of a teenager catastrophizing over what could happen, if he doesn’t get his way.

FDR’s New Deal wasn’t just about spending money. It was based on a larger plan to build infra-structure that would have long-term beneficial impacts on the entire country. Fixing bridges and pot holes now is short-term. Once that work is done the work goes away and the workers have gained nothing in the long run.

BO doesn’t have the intelligence, experience and vision to sort out this complicated problem. He is still thinking pay for play, which has always been his game plan. That won’t work to fix an economy. In the long run it will make things worse….

I pray the Republicans hold fast and the Democrats get over themselves and the high they are on. It is time for grown up reality, not more partying….

Housing or fixing the housing issue will not immediately provide any jobs!

Kick starting the economy is what is important! That’s why it is called stimulus. And on top of that the idea is to use the stimulus spending to make long-term investments and fix some immediate problems (help some states out,keep some police and firemen on the job, do some immediate infrastructure, etc.).

As for fixing the housing sector or dealing with all the bad mortgages, that is partly what TARP was suppose to do and what TARP II is suppose to be about. That is a separate effort to the stimulus bill.

By the way, I thought Obama’s speech was brillant. He very much needs to kick some Republican ass, especially those Republicans that are using this economic mess, which they created, to play petty politics. Some of the Republicans that are showboating and grandstanding are disgusting and their behavior is not going to keep you or me in our jobs. Best Obama line was “Are these folks serious?”

IMO, you are completely on the money. She would have had her plan ready to go on day one and would have made it happen. Obama’s team think all they have to do is make a speech and his words will wipe away common sense.

Oisafraud…You are so right. Hillary and McCain are friends, good friends. It would have been a lovely bipartisan attempt at a bill that would truly stimulate the economy if either one of them had (deservedly) won the election and worked together. We got the biggest joke and most incompetent “leader” in our history. And we’re going to pay for it. And so many will generations to come.

1. We could cut just cut taxes, like the Republicans want. A permanent 5% across the board tax cut, effective 2008. Since totally revoking the alternative minimum tax law is also part of their alternative plan, a retail or assembly worker would get the same 5% as Bill Gates or a financial industry CEO who took in $100 million last year. Your hourly worker might see a savings of 1000 bucks. The CEO pockets a cool million. Somehow this stimulates the economy. It also increases the deficit, as do all options but 2.

2. We could do absolutely nothing. No tax cuts, no new spending. Maybe the economy will spontaneously begin to breathe on it’s own without recussetation efforts. We should all cross our fingers. Pray, if you’re so inclined.

3. We could try some combination of tax cuts and serious cash infustions to jolt the economy back to life. We could direct the tax cuts to small businesses and consumers and inject money across the board to increase liquidity–with emphasis on expenditures that reduce future public costs, repair what needs fixing, encourage consumer confidence and spending, and provide help to those most hurting in bridging over some very difficult times. #3 is not without danger, because we’d be spending money on the assumption that we can make up for it when times get better. (Just like #1, except people advocating #1 would oppose the eventual tax increases required to pay off the additional debt.)

I guess it’s a “circle one of the above” situation? Or am I missing option #4?
