Unclear On The Concept

Ed. Note: Stay tuned for LD’s Central Station Q&A at 9:00 a.m. Rev. Amy’s piece is a perfect warm-up for your questions for LD!

**************************************

US Senators are still debating and fighting over the stimulus package Obama wants. People are furious about the amount the House passed, so what does the Senate do? Increases it by over $100 BILLION dollars. I am not kidding. Moderate Republicans and Democrats (“Gang of 18″) have been working together to try and cut out the pork, and somehow today, Friday, the amount has gone to $920 BILLION. Wow. Talk about not listening to the constituency (what else is new), whose support for this package has fallen to 37%.

But get this. Listen to what Senator Harry Reid said to the “Gang of 18″:

Evidently, Reid has forgotten who he is supposed to be serving – US, not Obama! Checks and balances, serving the people, protecting the Constitution – these are not small matters, Senator Reid. And if Obama’s package is a pile of crap – which it is, SOMEONE needs to be protecting US and the future generations who will be repaying this money.

You know, it was not that long ago that the Democrats were assailing the Republicans for doing Bush’s bidding in lockstep, or seemingly without critical thought. It seems the only thing that has changed is the letter beside the majority in power. How quickly the Democrats have forgotten the frustration and anger of being the minority party. How sad that they seem to have embodied the very characteristics against which they fought. And, how sad that anyone thought anything would be different. Just sayin’.

As long as the Democrats want crap in this bill like a FRISBEE GOLF COURSE, or money for Las Vegas to buy NEON SIGNS, they deserve to have it held up. We should DEMAND that they hold it up until it is a bill that does not squander OUR money, and does what it is intended to do – stimulate the economy. And if that means Obama doesn’t get it passed when HE wants it, too damn bad. It’s not his money these bozos want to spend on a freakin’ frisbee golf course, it’s ours. As I keep saying, these are SERIOUS times, people – time to act like adults already.

Seems to me like this is a good time to re-run he following video:

In The Know: Should The Government Stop Dumping Money Into A Giant Hole?

Yeah. And how.

Maybe I should mail them my bill! haha

Frisbee, are you KIDDING? my god!

  • Astra14

We are soooo screwed!!! Time to find a way to vote the whole lot of them out of office!

  • Winston

So typical of American’s now living in Italy to jump to such rash conclusions at a moments notice without considering all the details.

The issues surrounding Frisbe Golf are complex and deep. There are innumerable geo-political implications which you obviously cannot grasp.

Sure, on the surface it seems ridiculous, but there has been and on-going struggle for world dominance in this sport and our National Pride is at stake.

Go ahead and judge us from your perch in beautiful Italy with all your wonderful food, romantic nights and Espresso. Without Frisbe Golf our morale in the US will sink to unprecedented lows and our mental clinics will fill to capacity.

Did you even think of that? Probably not. You are too busy touring the wonders of Rome, Venice and Milan. You are blinded by all shopping and seeing the vibrant frescoes every where you turn to see the big picture.

Frisby Golf is no different that the space-race. Some People, I tell you.

ROTFLMAO – you tell her, Winston! :-D

And guess who one of the Rep. Senators was who caved? If you guesses Arlen Specter, you’d be right!

I tell you – this is the thing with this guy. He says stuff like in the above video, abt the separation of powers, blah, blah, blah, then caves EASILY. I know Specter is a moderate, and when I was a Dem (you know, before it morphed into the Evil Empire losing all sense of ethics and morality, highlighted on 5/31/08 by blatant vote theft), I liked that abt him. Now that I am looking for a few good senators to stand for the PEOPLE and our hard earned money, I am disgusted with his “words, just words.” Sheesh.

Hmmm – maybe I just need a good round of Frisbee golf on a 36 hole course to get me over this frustration. Yeah, that’s the ticket!

i almost bought that for my dad for christmas. how hilarious is that!

  • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

All kidding aside, yes, Mary, I think you are right. No matter HOW much the people are saying don’t do this to us, our children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, they keep going along. As if the new package – $1 TRILLION with interest – is the right way to go. WTH is wrong with them???

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ sarainitaly

    HAHHA

  • Winston

LOL–So that’s why they call it a STIMULUS package.

  • sandshark222

This is not about stimulus at all, whatsoever. This is – to Pelosi, Reed, Obama, etc – finally their chance to pass all of their wishlist. Every special interest program, all the paybacks to ACORN and the likes. This is the gigantic liberal cookie jar all packaged in the name of economic recovery.

This is no longer about bigger government or smaller government. It’s now a battle of socialism or capitalism. As of right now, socialism is winning.

We are moving from a republic to an oligarchy.

  • sandshark222

I also wonder – what would our founding fathers think of this?

  • C.S.

The one question no one has answered is where that $800 billion, $900 billion; or possibly more by the time they actually get this albatross passed; is where is the money coming from since We unemployed citizens will not be paying taxes on incomes We no longer have?

With all the dithering over “bail out bills” from economists and politicians it seems they have overlooked the substance of the 16th Amendment ratified in 1913 which states

The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration.

and you can’t “lay and collect taxes on incomes” that don’t exist. Therefore, with unemployment reaching almost 8% and more and more jobs being sucked into the black hole of government indecision, that leaves it up to Soertoro/Obama’s wealthy donors (who gave him $750 million dollars to buy him the Oval Office) to dig deeper in their pockets and shore up our crumbing economy if they still support him because it has long been known that you can’t get blood out of a turnip.

Nor can you get it from a stone so Reid and his gang of 18 better start turning over some rocks to find someone other than We the Taxpayers to fund this other fine mess they have gotten us into since wresting control from Republicans in 2006 by promising us change. And pocket change is all both political parties have left in Our Treasury to fund this next big bail out bill becoming known as the Obama Pork Bill.

  • Elizabeth

And according to the CBO analysis, state and federal agencies are so unprepared to manage the rapid inflow of funds that half of it won’t even be spent until 2010 and it will take up to a decade for everything to fully take effect.

Hopefully spending that can be rescinded by a Republican Congress after a 1-2 punch of tax cuts + unemployment benefits hit the economy and provide sufficient short term relief.

  • yttik

We are toast. I’d be surprised in any of this money trickled down in the form of jobs. I’ve watched government take on too many failed projects, billion dollar boondoggles.

New Orleans has been on my mind lately, billions spent on rebuilding and yet I’ve still got evacuees living in my area in poverty. Did they ever rebuild the levees? How about the 9th ward? I haven’t even seen a price tag for NO lately, but I know the gov poured millions into it as well as charitable donations from the private sector. How’s that project going?

How about Iraq? How is that rebuilding effort going?

I hate to sound like a Republican but the government is rarely an effective way to get things done. For every dollar that trickles down to the people, they spend 99 more delivering it. And by the time you get your buck, the inflation they’ve caused by borrowing makes it worth about 50 cents.

  • obamastolemyboyfriend

Is it gift wrapped with a big bow like Obama said about the other debt? I hope so. He likes to get presents, especially ones that take from Americas poor folks. You know he and MEMEMEchelle had said that everybody would have to give up their piece of the pie so someone else could have it. What they did not tell you is that the Government will be having a pie eating contest with all of our pies!

  • sandshark222

I couldn’t have said it better. The only thing the government has been good at lately has been growing it’s own size.

  • I’m a Linda too

2010 should be a rebuke on this crap. Pelosi and Reid to the curbs.

Pelosi won her 2008 relecton because they were giving her one last chance. All that good will will be lost.

Reid is being Reid, the same we’ve seen since elected from Daschle. And they are showing they are worse than Dubya.

Sad that their only argument for what they are doing is comparing themselves to the one person people couldn’t wate to be gone. Are all Democrats on meltdown?

…sorry, I’m still amazed at Senator Boxer complaining to Lindsay Graham, his argument about this NOT Stimulus bill, that she didn’t recall him arguing the cost of something when Bush was president. IS SHE FOR REAL? omg And, gee, did we miss an extra 900 Billion dollar EXTRA SPENDING Bill being marketed as a Stimulus? The only thing in comparision was the 700 billion bailout bill that the DEMOCRATS WERE ANXIOUSLY PUSHING as the American population was totally against that too.

  • Sassy

We are not treading water, bailing water, we are sunk in a sea of debt!
In the words of our famous TN. philosopher, Ernie Ford: ” St. Peter don’t you call me, cause I can’t go, I owe my soul to the company store”!

  • I’m a Linda too

OK, Pat Racimora needs to make a great one of her toons for this debacle.

yes, and even democratic leaning economists who already said this plan sucks (ie Paul Krugman) must get a rash of “traitor” emails and notes for daring not be a Cheerleader for O-shit. So they too have taken to the “lets not discuss the bad Democratic actions and lets just bring up Republicans with Bush, so they are being disingenuou. Now even folks like our Paul Krugman are turning in to political machines.

CAN WE STICK WITH THE FACTS PLEASE.

  • Winston

They would be quietly planning a revolution. Same thing we are GOING to be DOING.

  • Winston

Might I be so bold as to suggest either single file or in a circle. Call it the nose to butt configuration.

With the circle, there is no lead Pig (lack of leadership). Plus with the circle they aren’t getting anywhere. And it implies insularity, like an island, separate and remote, taking no cues from us. They all are equally guilty in a circle, and every input (food) is merely the output (crap) from the pig in front.

And I would put lipstick on all of them.

  • tony

    O/T (sorry),
but has anyone heard about whats been going on in New Hampshire? they have put up a bill (HCR-6) that calls on provisions in its state constitution that, should the federal government encroach on the bill of rights or become tyrannical, they may pull out of the Union and form its own government. just go to google and type in HCR-6, and you will find plenty of material on it. you will also find plenty on youtube.

And New Hamphshire is not alone. Three other states – Washington, Arizona, and Oklahoma – passed similar legislation yesterday threatening to leave the US is Obama and company continue doing what they are doing. i’ve also heard (but cannot confirm) that Delaware and Montana are also drawing up similar legislation. That makes 6 states that i know of that are passing similar pieces of legislation that threaten secession from the US if the federal government dosen’t get its act together and back off.

this is all about defending states rights against a power-hungry federal government – one that is becoming increasingly marxist to boot.

…i still can’t believe it – he’s only been in office 2 1/2 weeks and we’re already on the brink of financial ruin and face the specter of the disintegration of the union. last time that happened we fought a civil war.

at least he kept one of his campaign promises – he is definitely bringing a little change…

“Udall tacks amendment for vets on stimulus bill
    Related
    More on this site

    | The Associated Press

    2/6/2009 – 2/6/09
ALBUQUERQUE — An amendment worked into the national economic stimulus bill would expand tax incentives to employers who hire veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., said the measure is needed because the current generation of soldiers and sailors are returning home after military discharge to find a shrinking work force.

The amendment was approved Friday as the Senate worked on the recovery package. The measure would apply to veterans who are discharged from September 2001 through December 2010.

To qualify for the tax credit, employers would need to hire a post-9/11 veteran who has received unemployment benefits for at least four weeks within the past year. The veteran would need to work at least 120 hours for the employer to be eligible.”

    http://www.santafenewmexican.com/Local%20News/Udall-tacks-amendment-for-vets-on-stimulus-bill

Uh, hello? If the goal is to give veterans a job, don’t you think you should have a minimum of 3 months required before they get a credit, not 3 weeks? Trust me, what Richardson has bread through this state, they will hire and fire them constantly to get that credit.

  • Winston

So if 6 states pull out, that still leaves 51.

Seriously, I am for states rights all the way. And if you are too then you favor Jeffersonian Republicanism.

CORE PRINCIPLE #1: citizens have a civic duty to aid the state and resist corruption, especially monarchism and aristocracy.

Basically it is our civic responsibility to watch the feds like a hawk and smack them down whenever possible. They are way out of line. Its time for the states to rise and exert their Power. And if it takes veiled threats like NH et al; then so be it.

  • http://rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I do believe the fabulous Pat is working on something. Stay tuned!

  • Mary

    Agree completely.

Krugman’s last article was full of trash talk like “taking their orders from Rush Limbaugh.”

He never once mentioned the 11 Blue Dog Democrats who voted no, or the manner in which the Blue Dogs were completely snubbed from any input by Nancy Pelosi, or Diane Feinstein and Claire McKaskill saying the bill was too porked-stuffed, or Jim Webb’s interview where he said Obama set the number at $800 billion, and Pelosi told all her members to make a list of what they wanted, until the amount reached Obama’s total.

And THEN Pelosi said “I don’t care what’s in it; I just want a unanimous YES vote.”

Krugman never mentioned any of that.

    Just PURE politics bashing Republicans.

    Disappointing, to say the least.

I know things look bad right now, but there’s no need to feel like we’re backed up against the precipice. Get out more, do things! Take the big jet! This just out from NY Daily News:

It took Barack Obama two years to get to the White House, but barely more than two weeks for wanderlust to set in.

“He’s a bit of a restless soul,” Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Friday when asked if Obama was feeling “cooped up in the White House.”

Saturday, Obama and his family are due to head for Camp David for their first overnight stay at the presidential retreat in Maryland’s Catoctin Mountains.

Next week, Air Force 1 will be rolling out of the hangar to take him on four trips.

On Monday and Tuesday, he plans day trips to Elkhart, Ind., and Fort Myers, Fla., to pitch his economic recovery plan.

On Thursday, he returns to Springfield, Ill., where he served as a state legislator, to mark Abraham Lincoln’s 200th birthday.

Then late next Friday, he plans to fly to Chicago, his hometown, to spend the weekend and go out Saturday night with wife, Michelle, for a Valentine’s Day dinner date.

One would think that with Obama’s Muslim background, slight though it is, that pork would be an anethema to him. Heh.

  • tony

I am definitely a fan of Jefferson Republicanism. This move by NH has really shown the difference between the way the federal government operates, and the way its SUPPOSED to operate. The only real power it has is to levy taxes, defend us from invaders, and prosecute for piracy or treason. Just about everything they do these days is completely and totally unconstitutional.

Big government is not the way to go. Its past time for states to stand up for their rights and those of their citizens and rescue this country from DC’s megalomania.

  • FLDemFem

Lincoln was born in Kentucky. Perhaps Obama should go there and “uplift” all the citizens who are still trying to get out from under that ice storm. You know, the ones who still have no power, no heat, etc. I am sure they will give him an earful on the stimulus bill.

  • Tuppence411

It seems to me that “Pelosi and Company” did create a clusterfu@k. Ignored the normal order business in Congress and made one big ball of a bill that incorporates simulative spending, tax cuts, relief, normal budget appropriations, and the usual pork. One big clusterfu@k with a bow and a gift tag wrongly labeled “Stimulus”. Like no one would notice?!

Do the states and its citizens need help with unemployment and medicare/medicaid care costs in this economic environment? Of course they do. But don’t tell me it’s “stimulative”.

Should we invest an additional 2B in Head Start? Heck yes! but that is what the budget process is for.

I could go on with more examples. My real question is “why” did they create a clusterfu@k on purpose? My only answer is because Pelosi could. She wanted to prove there’s a new sheriff in town and we will all suffer for it.

  • oowawa

Are the tires still going whirrwhirrwhirr in the driveways? Well then, how are they going to help stimulate the economy? The president is doing all he can–it’s about time those KY folks dig out and spend a few bucks, like our President and the members of Congress. We can’t expect our leaders to do it all by themselves!

  • WildChild

BOBO could invite them to valentines day diner….. and pay this time

  • Babs

Obama is still campaigning – obviously he wishes he were back in the primaries and GE when he didn’t have to answer the tough questions, and the MSM just went along with all the garbage that came out of his mouth, holding him accountable for nothing. Wake up, Obama, you’re in the big leagues now, and the office of POTUS is a lot more than fancy plane rides and other perks. IMHO this guy has no work ethic, period, and it’s showing already. He is in love with himself and the idea of being President, but the hard work, nah, that’s for someone else. The show horse won, the work horse is now SOS. God, I miss her.

  • Calypso

The stimulous legislation began at a cost of 750 billion, a figure that shocked conservatives and blue dog democrats into not supporting the bill.

The senate increased the number to 850 billion which also sent those opposed into a tizzy. Negotiations were held, the cost rose to 950 billion. Yesterday republican opposition were slamming the democrats “trillion dollar bill”.

Obama leaves DC to take a walk through the woods of Camp David, Meanwhile back at the senate miraculously negotiations amongst senators bring the cost of the stimulous down to 850 billion. The thieving politcians and media call this a compromise which reduced the cost of this bill to the American taxpayer.

Was this a scheming scam by both democrats and republcians to claim they reduced the funding when it actually was increased?

  • beachnan

Although I do not agree with the stimulus package the dems and Obama are trying to bulldoze through, I do agree that the Republicans said very little when it came time to pass Bush’s initiatives, and there was pork in there too. However, this is not the time or place to push this kind of spending package down our throats, when it will do little to stimulate the economy. This is not the time for tit for tat. Congress, you need to grow up. We need solutions, not pet projects, that will lead us further into debt. Leader, if only we had elected a true leader….Hillary, we need you.

He will be in Chicago for the weekend. Flying there late Friday on Air Force One so he and Michelle can have their Valentine’s Day date night in Chicago. Maybe he can overfly KY on the way and waggle the AF1 wings at them. I am not up to date on fuel costs of Air Force One. Anyone know how much this date is going to cost the taxpayers?

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

I couldn’t agree more. Someone was telling me abt an article she read in which the writer actually talked abt the real Obama. It said that they decided to capitalize on his Golden status as soon as he got in, because he realized how much WORK it was in the Senate to get stuff done, and he would just be one of 100 people. Not enough of a spot light for him, I guess. And, too much work. He seems to have skated by most of his adult life, and has done the same with the presidency. So, he gets out ASAP, reading a book to kids (I mean, really – how many more similarities to Bush do we need), using AF 1 like its a taxicab, and getting petulant anytime anyone asks him a serious question (or so it seems).

No work ethic. One could probably expand that concept more broadly to no ethics…

  • oowawa

Waggling the wings of AF1 is a good idea. It will boost the morale of the folks on the ground in KY considerably. They can all bundle up, put on their mittens and earmuffs, and go out in the front yard and wave to him as he flies on by and wing-waggles!

Someone from Pelosi’s office apparently leaked that Obama and Pelosi are at each other’s throats on this. Pelosi wrote the Porkfest, of course, and Obama didn’t pay attention. Now that it is making Obama look bad he is taking her to task over it. Her rant back at him is that she’s “sorry she got him elected in the first place.” If this is true, it’s really good to know Pelosi is really our President, and that our supposed leaders are fighting among themselves.

  • oowawa

Since it will be close to Valentine’s Day, I wonder how hard it would be for AF1 to skywrite a great big heart in the sky!?! That would really knock their socks off! The folks shivering in KY could feel the warm love descending from 30,000 feet . . .

I knew about New Hampshire but hadn’t realized it was spreading so rapidly. Texas already has this caveat in their Constitution.

About time states begin to exercise their rights after the Democratic party took away Michigan and Florida’s Constitutional rights by disenfranchising their voters to make sure Soertoro/Obama “won”. But this is nothing like the Civil War and these states aren’t calling for separation from the U. S.; they are calling for a return to a Constitutional democracy and removal of any elected official who does not follow our Constitution to preserve it.

(And a selected “president” with unanswered legal questions regarding his birthplace and dual citizenship being ignored by the Supreme Court whose only duty is to uphold the constitution yet has refused to hear even one of the almost 20 cases filed demanding proof from Soertoro/Obama is certainly a reason for the passage of HCR-6.)
