After a short honeymoon, the emperor reveals he is truly naked

It has now become inescapably apparent: The emperor indeed has no clothes. Obama is a man with no vision, no real understanding of the problems he faces, and no real solutions to offer. It seems he is simply a poser with a gift for rhetoric and an ability to get himself elected. That is all.

After his election became an established fact, I said that America should give him the chance to show what he was really made of, and get behind any sensible actions he took to help to improve the situation.

I was initially encouraged by the fact that he genuinely seemed to be pursuing a non-partisan approach, and by his promises to seek “new economic thinking” (which the world desperately needs to replace the tired old Keynesian economic models that evolved under very different conditions).

What America needed most of all, I felt, was not only a new approach to economics but a bold new and imaginative initiative like Kennedy’s Man on the Moon project or Reagan’s Star Wars which (as I pointed out previously) generated ten times more revenue through economic activity and technological progress than it cost.

Obama has promised new initiatives, and I was at least expecting him to come up quickly with a bold new strategy aimed at reducing the country’s reliance on energy imports. He promised as much in his election campaign.

Terrorism is another area where bold new initiatives are called for – initiatives that could at the same time generate new kinds of economic activity and technological progress.

But all we have gotten from Obama so far are empty slogans and the same old faces doing the same business in the same old ways with no indication of any real changes to come, and a “stimulus package” that is full of pork for causes dear to the left-wing not-so-liberals like Nancy Pelosi and Barney Frank. And where he has sought to bring in new faces, he has shown a tendency to pick people who cheat on their taxes. What does that say about his judgment?

America has the resources, the labor force, the work ethic and the infrastructure to feed, house, clothe and take care of its citizens better than any other country in the world, but it requires an imaginative approach to the question of how to make the most of what there is and achieve the kind of society most people want. Obama has promised a more equitable society with less suffering and hardship – which is an attainable goal if it is pursued with common sense and the right system of incentives and rewards – but I cannot see anything in what Obama has said and done that he can bring about any change I can truly believe in.

I hate to say it, but I think SusanUnPC was right in her view that Obama is fast becoming the most ineffectual president since Carter…or even worse. Ineffectual was the last thing Obama was in his presidential campaign, where he radiated confidence. But it looks like that may be the only thing he is good at – getting himself elected.

If he had real vision, he might be able to use those talents to mobilize the country behind fresh ideas. But it is becoming increasingly apparent that he is, as I said in the opening paragraph, a man of no substance when it comes to fresh ideas. In fact he seems to be fresh out of fresh ideas.

But I guess when you are doing business with and seeking advice from the same old faces, who have got used to doing things in a certain way, and are more interested in protecting their territory than bringing about any real change, then it is perhaps not surprising that his rhetoric has turned out to be so empty so far.

And now even some of his former supporters are beginning to have second thoughts about him.

I’m sorry, but all of this was apparent a year ago. Why has it taken so long for the nation to see this coming. There have been an endless string of events pointing in exactly the direction of this article. It is very sad to see the nation so easily duped.

    • wodiej

two reasons. 98% of the population is stupid. and people panicked because the economy was not doing well.

      • Ferd Berfle

And a lot of the blame goes to the media, which has dumbed down Americans to the point where I’m surprised they can take a breath without being reminded on the half-hour and to the advertisers who peddle their wares through means that approach the absolute lowest-common denominator in terms of intellectual content.

When I am required to write highly technical documents for the government so that they can be read (and I’m not commenting here about understanding, which is even further beyond their grasp) by a sixth grade student because anything more complex than that is unintelligle by the average American, I am outraged. And this has been going on since at least the mid-90s.

And to top it all off, at work, I can’t solve my own computer problems (which I am quite capable of doing) without going to some addle-headed moron at the helpless desk, who has an Ipod glued to his skull, to get the problem solved. He/she can’t speak English, even though they were born here but they can bore you to tears about the newest gadget, which allows them to spy on me, even though I’ve worked for the company for 18 years and they’ve been at it about 2 days.

        We’re screwed.

hypocrisy, corruption, decadence, hate (a lot of hate)…what more else?

      • Julia

        oh and MEDIA, sure!

    • bill

Do you really think they see it? I have not seen any proof in pools or articles other than Ms. Dowd’s. Would dearly love to see that.

I remember when Clinton came into the White House there was concern that the Democrats had been out so long that they had no strong people for many cabinet positions. Especially State, if I remember correctly.

The damage his admin could do would take years to recover from. Frightening.

    • disgruntled dem

A lot of people saw his mediocrity right at the start— but his insensitivity, the media’s stupidity, the Dem leadership’s greed for power (see, gradually their purposes in embracing him have come to light but sadly, it boomeranged to them) have shrouded it all and it had become a mob affair. After all the lights were off, and the sounds died down, and all those props are taken out, what happened? Those people who were crazy about him will know that in 2010. Now, the populace has to be vigilant with his moves… Be wary of his taking control of the census office. Why on the Earth would he control it if he had no dirty trick up his sleeves. Third World politics… would you want that? America, wake up!

    OGG,

What America needed most of all, I felt, was not only a new approach to economics but a bold new and imaginative initiative like Kennedy’s Man on the Moon project or Reagan’s Star Wars which (as I pointed out previously) generated ten times more revenue through economic activity and technological progress than it cost.

I’m so frustrated that we elected an American idol president with no experience other than to win elections. Truly the emptiest of suits which typifies the mass of uneducated Americans who voted in this election

My version of a NASA type of program would have been to inject a trillion dollars into the auto industry and related technologies in a massive government initiative with huge over site to recreate the auto industry and save the world. The auto industry got the world into this crisis and must be the vehicle for which to save the planet.

    • Docelder

we elected an American idol president

I think with that one liner… you successfully nailed the “jello to the wall”.

      • jwrjr

Should that be “American Idle president”?

        • graceinpa

          bingo!

    • CMartin

Isn’t that Keynesian, though? Throwing money we don’t have at programs to try to generate jobs and push the economy? How can you call for Keynesian policy but decry Keynesian economics at the same time?

      • OldGrumpyGuy

I think it is time to start thinking outside the box of any traditional ecnomic model and try to come up with a new way of doing things. It’s clear that all the old models – from Marxism to Keynes and beyond – have their flaws. What it needs is new ideas and visionary leadership. If the money is spent on generating jobs that improve the infrastructure, stimulate technological progress, help towards energy independence and creating the kind of society that most Americans can agree on, it can only be to the benefit of the country. The concept of “throwing money we don’t have” to stimulate the economy is not relevant, not when you are investing for the future. As previous big initiatives have shown, the effort generates more value than the money it uses to get things started. What’s more important is ensuring that the money is not wasted on pork.

        • WildChild

so basically you are calling for Keynesian economics but based on “new ideas” and “visionary leadership” as long as the money is spent on generating jobs that improve the infrastructure, stimulate technological progress, help towards energy independence and creating the kind of society that most Americans can agree on,

except that laundry list of ideas are old ideas, as are the terms outside of the box, new ideas and visionary leadership.

It all sounds great in a 15 second TV commercial though.

          • OldGrumpyGuy

Don’t you get tired of being silly and irrelevant Wildchild?

            • WildChild

LOL what cracks me up is how you write blog posts so you can be fawned over by your adoring readers while at the same time simply dismissing anyone that points out that you’re full of shit.

              • OldGrumpyGuy

Yes and I can see all your adoring readers falling over themselves to agree with your pathetic comments

                • WildChild

LMAO If I wanted to be part of group of people that agreed with me all the time I’d be a republican or a post BOBO democrat. hell, I could even be one of your little groupies.

                  • OldGrumpyGuy

No thanks. I have no time for people who are as gratuitously rude as they are fatuous

                    • WildChild

It’s so much easier when everyone differs to you “intellect” (bwah ha ha), isn’t it? To bad you’re in the wrong country and on the wrong blog for that. My suggestion is you seek out a blog called hugs and kisses or something else to that effect.

At this one you get no quarter, and that’s just how I like it.

                    • JustMe

so wildchild I have a question for u. If were from another country originally we should not post here?

I have seen this quite a lot here recently in fact I have offered my fair share of comments to UKDems due to his comments at NQ etc..

Just need to know is it the case with everyone here that if we are not born and bred in the USA we are not welcome?

                      Just askin?

                    • WildChild

I’m going to answer that question this way. What goes on in America is a family matter between Americans, and like all family matters oftentimes we square off and take sides. Now I understand that people from places other than America are going want to chime in from time to time. But if you’re aren’t wearing the colors then you don’t belong on the field interfering with the ongoing play action. And if you are, then I’m really not interested in your tears or your outraged protests when we pick your ass up and throw you back in the stands.

                    • JustMe

chime in? throw us back in the stands? I see I understand it from you now regardless if we have lived here years etc paid taxes and never asked for a hand out in your view is we are all scum and should keep out thoughts to ourself.

OK I get it!! maybe this is not a site for me then being an honest person in the states at this point in time…..

See ya all I trust it all works out well.

                    • WildChild

I don’t know who you are but if you’re not a citizen, you’re not an American. This isn’t your country. You’re not part of our family.

                    • FLDemFem

If you had ever actually read the United States Constitution, you would see that it refers to “persons” not citizens when it delineates the rights of the people of this country. The only reference to “citizens” is in the definition of citizenship. Therefore, anyone who lives in this country has the right to free speech, including on this blog. Perhaps you should go buy a book on manners, young lady, you sure could use one.

                    • Ferd Berfle

Therefore, anyone who lives in this country has the right to free speech, including on this blog. Perhaps you should go buy a book on manners, young lady, you sure could use one.

You’re not entirely correct. In Wildchild’s defense, the preamble of the Constitution starts with “We the People of the United States”. I see no reference to androids or non-US citizens, two categories that UK can honestly claim membership in.

                    • OldGrumpyGuy

And how do you feel about Kenyans?

                    • Katmoon

I’m with you wildchild, it is our country; and the U.S. Constitution our document, our lifeblood. You don’t need manners, sometimes the truth is simply difficult for some when there is not the experience of living our particular constitution. Until a person votes, pays taxes, is a U.S. citizen, in deed, living the life her as an actual American, comprehension is not a possibility.

                    • Katmoon

                      here not “her” oops pfft

                    • WildChild

This isn’t an argument about free speech. Our argument is about the direction of the country. Aliens as as group do not get the vote which means they do not get to be part of any decision made about our country’s current or future direction. Why should any citizen take them seriously during those debates?

                    • Ellen D

You know I first decided to ignore wildchild and put it down to one being a short on comprehension.

Very small minded in the view of things.

As regards wearing the colors I wear the red white and blue proudly and will do my utmost to protect what I believe in.

Not only what I believe in but also to protect what I have. The USA did not give me everything I have I worked a lifetime before moving here and I brought it with me I did not ask for any handout or for any FEEBIE to be here and since being here, have helped many women in business to be independent and to move onwards and upwards….

Your naivety wildchild is embarrasing and you can keep your American family and I will glady move forward with mine…..

Wildchild is totally out of line and has diminished his stature on this blog by showing his limited capacity with the inclusion of others.

                    • andrew191

I have to ask. Seattle Moss, Old Grumpy Guy, would you bother responding to someone in a real life situation that spoke to you in such a rude manner as many respond to you in your postings? When someone speaks to me in such a rude fashion, I simply walk on.

I think the lack of civility and decorum on the internet is a striking example of an overwhelming problem that is the root cause of an ever expanding animosity among people that would normaly have affinity for each other.

                    • http://www.marklevinshow.com/ Seattle Moss

                      Andrew,
                      Good point!
                      You’re always so gracious dude!

I agree that the internet is like driving your car and spouting off and cutting people off in a rude fashion
People think they can hide because they are anonymous and can even fake their identity. Wildchilds problem is that he battled UKDem far too long and as a result is jaded towards anybody else that comes from England.

                    • andrew191

Maybe I’m weird, but I consider my input on this internet as the same type of discussion I might have with a complete stranger in the Thriftway on Vashon, and as such, I try to maintain a cordial and respectful demeanor. However, if my initially neutural and accepting position is considered to be a position of weakness or stupidity by persons of a certain political persuasion, I’ll become very defensive and argumentative regarding my beliefs. I’m not a push over, as you might know from my postings. I’m sure you realize that I reserve my most devastating and demoralizing comments for those deserving of such, and that you’ll not likely be numbered among them, you’ve always made reasoned postings, even though I’ve been in dissagreement with some of them.

The bottom line is that I have lifelong friends and family that are on the opposite side of many touchy subjects from me, and I still love them. It’s a good thing that our first encounter wasn’t on the internet, if so , we might hate each other.

        • NoBamaNoWay

correct; but i think that gov spending on worthwhile, good job producing programs should be coupled with something reduces the current wealth gap between the rich and working poor. people should not be working 40+ hours per week in america and still be living in poverty. i propose a corporate income tax based on the ratio of management pay to worker pay.

          • athena

I disagree with this idea. I came from a challenging economic background. I worked hard in school, applied for scholarships, grants, student loans, and worked 2 and 3 jobs to get my college education. I then took a job out of college and worked very hard, long hours, in less than ideal environment to gain the experience I needed. I tried different fields until I found one that I enjoyed, paid well (make as much as you want to work) and that I was proud. I now own my own business. By the way I was a mother at 21, divrced at 23. It was no cakewalk but I was motivated and determined to make a life for myself and earn a living that I though I deserved. Jobs don’t have to be permanent. They can be stepping stones to the next career or job. Corporate tax will be passed on to the consumer – plain and simple. Corporations do not pay taxes.

My version of a NASA type of program would have been to inject a trillion dollars into the auto industry and related technologies

All we need is a new engine that could be made to replace the existing engines, which would shut down on deceleration and avoid idling when the auto is standing still. It will use gas only during acceleration. I don’t think it is that difficult to design. I would design it if I could get a grant to set up a plant.

      • elise

Lark, that’s not a bad idea, but what’s wrong with electric? The technology already exists and if the big three could be funded to switch to building only hybrids or electric, it would put a lot of people to work. Gas stations could add electrical outlets and charge for a charge (lol). It would solve several problems; reduce dependence on oil, create new manufacturing jobs and be better for the environment. I read somewhere there is an electric engine, a super capacitor, which will go three hundred miles before it needs to be recharged. Those cars aren’t as hard on highways and roads either, so the money for pot holes could be used on other infrastructure. People would start buying American made cars instead of those from Japanese companies.

  • Chris

The poor woman they showed on the news yesterday whose son was killed in the cole bombing said” I voted for him but I think i made a mistake.” I don’t want to meet him and I don’t understand what he’s doing.” This was in reference to the dropping of charges against the mastermind of the incident sitting in Guantanamo. Stopped the trial and dropped the charges. Even though they can be brought up again she could not understand why they would stop in the middle of the trial and waste time and money. Do you think maybe the worshippers are getting the picture now? No one wanted to hear it before and now it’s a mess and they are thinking they may have made a mistake. I feel so bad for this woman, she lost a son, but they were warned that he had his own agenda and it didn’t really include the American citizens needs or concerns. He’s all about himself and always has been.

    • AlexisM

I am confused. Why did Obama do this in the first place? It was really sad watching that AA woman admit she made a mistake voting for him. I would imagine that’s going to be spreading like wildfire in the AA communities.

      • Wisewoman

Not by me. I am an AA female Hillary supporter who saw through the Fraud immediately. I am a true student of the civil rights movement and marched with King during protests.

        1. When Obama stood in the pulpit of Ebenezzer Baptist Church and lied about his parents being at the Selma march and being born hereafter when he was actually born 4 years prior, I knew we had a dangerous psycopath running for president. I knew the media fix was in when he was not exorciated for this blanant lie which was easily documented by his birth in 1961.

        2. I was present in a MS small town when Burt Lanscaster, Sammy Davis, Jr, Peter Lawford and others attended a pep rally and financial support rally for the “cause” as we in those days described our efforts. When Obama told racial lies on the Clintons during the SC primary and denigrated the efforts of President Johnson and whites who were soldiers in the fight, I knew he was a dangerous liar, cheater, and race-baiter. Again when prominent AAs like Jessie Jackson, John Lewis and Jim Clyborne did not refute the lies to set the record straight I knew the fix was in among these leading AAs. Feel sorry for them and other AAs. I was never fooled by the liar and I truly detest the ground he walks on, can’t stand to look at his face, and I will never support him, ever.

          • felizarte

Totally agree with you Wisewoman. But I hope, thought I won’t be surprised if one of these days, someone blames his behavior on the white half of him.

        • Winston

You have had experiences that I can’t even imagine and it would be most welcomed if you would tell us a couple of stories in your fight for equality from long ago, whenever the urge strikes you.

MLK was a great man and had true courage. Black, White, whatever, we are all PUMAs now.

        • Texas Playwright

I agree, Wisewoman. bho the fraud dishonored Dr. King and President Johnson, whom Hillary praised when she tried to make the point that a Civil Rights leader and a sitting President worked very hard as a team to pass the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Dr. King worked with his huge army of supporters and group of advisors, and President Johnson rode herd on the Congress where he SERVED for years vs. running for President the minute he got elected like bho the fraud. The media fix was surely in, and I agree some AA leaders failed to name the facts in the SC primary.

bho the fraud has no core values, no core convictions, no core mission for America. Hillary was for health care, green jobs and energy independence. Sarah was for energy independence AS national security. We MUST have a national vision to rally around vs. piling more pork on Congress and special interest groups, i.e. cheating ACORN and faith based groups who are in the tank for the fraud.

bho is non-American, un-American and a puppet fascist. He and the people pulling his strings are dangerous. We must expose him and his thugs.

        • http://firefox AnnieCollier

Yes, indeed Wisewoman. Anyone old enough to have experienced those days immediately recognized that he is not what MLK talked about. I’m with you about Jackson, Lewis and the other AA traitors. It’s been stunning to me that they would sell out.

I was not in Selma but our church took special collections to send our pastor who did go to represent us. My dream was that MLK would live to be the first black President. That’s the real tragedy of the 20th century for me.

BHO had to go to that church for 20 years to learn how to be black in America — he’s a little Indonesian Muslim boy, who later grew up in privilege in Hawaii. I’m with you — I knew all I needed to know a year-and-a-half ago and never supported this corporate creation.

Thank you, Wisewoman, for your comment.

I understand in principle why AAs voted for Obama, but he didn’t go to Jena, La, he didn’t go to MLK day in Memphis, he has fewer AAs in his cabinet than GWB and he trashed one of the best friends they have in Bill Clinton. IMO, he used AA voters to get elected and I’m sorry for that, Wisewoman, but too many high profile people have been divisive (ie Spike Lee and Jayz) to feel sorry for them. Others who supported Hillary (ie Stephanie Tubbs Jones and John Lewis) were subjected to threats and insults from those in their own community when they didn’t fall in line. If he fails, what then?

  • http://www.marklevinshow.com/ Seattle Moss

And now even some of his former supporters are beginning to have second thoughts about him.

    • DAB

The fact that his supporters are not calling their Congressmen in order to support Obama’s stimulus plan clearly illustrates their fickleness.

It seems to me that Obama’s well-published plans to place permanent volunteer goons around the country for the expressed purposed of harassing those Dems who fail to fall in line with whatever That One wants may be going awry. Perhaps he just developed one-too-many fiendish plans and his followers are just too busy attending the next rock concert to care.

      • FLDemFem

One thing I have noticed when reading the ticker on CNN is that the Obots are tailing off, and not coming on to defend him when there is an article with negative comments on him. The shine is wearing off the new shoes, I think. The rabid defense of Obama has ceased, and I find that very interesting. Either the Obots have new games to play or the Kool-Aid is wearing off, big time.

        • AlexisM

Maybe the Obots are no longer receiving their penny-a-post paychecks. Tough times, ya know!

Having fresh ideas is only effective if you actually have some. Charlatans are very good at creating the initial grand illusion and Obama is definitely one of those. At some point though, they are found out and its obvious that Obama’s lack of insight will be quickly revealed because of the harsh environment that confronts him.

For example, Obama currently insists over and over again that the stimulus plan will create jobs but he refuses to explain exactly how. He either doesn’t know how and/or doesn’t have enough respect for the electorate to try to explain it to us. So much for the great communicator illusion — wonder what’s next???

    • obamastolemyboyfriend

Geez, he doesn’t even know what’s in the stimulus bill! He doesn’t care, duh!

What amazes me is how you could see that he doesn’t pledge the flag or put his hand over his heart and when he talks about America, he clearly hates her. He was the first POTUS in 54 years to blow off the military ball on inauguration night, and somehow people thought he gave a damn what happens to this country?! Puh-leaze!

I really wish we could split the country into parts and us smart people do our own thing, form our own nation. That is what would have been a great experiment, Hillary supporters have their own third of America and Obama supporters their own third, and the GOP their third. Let the “leaders” lead their constintuents and see who survived. I’m pretty sure there would have been zero bots and very few GOP left in the end!

      I still want Hillary!

Ineffectual was the last thing Obama was in his presidential campaign, where he radiated confidence.

    _______________________________________________________
Really ? His campaign stops always left me with the impression of a coach giving a pep talk to the American people instead of a leader who understands the hardships his people are facing today. Cockiness masking a deep sense of personal insecurity.

That the best Obama could manage, artifically propped up by illicit money, race and media interests, was to make himself marginally less unpopular than the self-destructing GOP speaks volumes.

    • Old Grumpy Guy

Of course the billion in campaign funding helped (and I’m still dying to know where it all came from)

Now that we have gotten over our white guilt by electing an African American for President we should impeach him immediately. Just think, he would be the first AA to be impeached and that would be another significant milestone for America. Gets me all choked up inside thinking about the many records we have set as a country.

    • http://deleted Buzz Latte LaRue

Totally agree there, Winston. Impeachment is a looming option. When more than 60% of Americans think the country is STILL headed in the wrong direction, why not make a course correction?

Obama’s favorability inches downward a couple of points each day. Who knows where it will be six weeks from now. I was going to say six months, but given past performance, we may not have to wait that long.

  • Babs

I work at an company employing hundreds of engineers, and when they are just out of college, they have to put EIT on their business cards, Engineer In Training. Only after they have become more experienced and pass their state boards do they become Professional Engineers, and may put PE after their names. I think PIT describes Obama to a T, and where he is driving our economy, and our country, as well.

  • Old Grumpy Guy

Obama promised new economic thinking. So why hasn’t he called an economic summit for some brainstorming to achieve that? It’s no good just discussing the situation with left wing liberals. Even Warren Buffet, whom he praised in his election campaign and who at least understands American business, seems to have been left out in the cold.

  • cathnealon

The only thing he radiated was arrogance, sexism and a tired, vapid hungover look. If one had at least any sensory apparatus left they could have detected this.

Obama does not have the temperment to work methodically, or slowly well planned. He will be a nightmare and will be costing us so much for his paybacks to all those who put out so much in advance to get him in the WH.

(which the world desperately needs to replace the tired old Keynesian economic models that evolved under very different conditions).

My favorite replacement for those tired old Keynesian economic models is of course those grumpy old supply side economic models, which have to the chagrin of those foolish individuals who bought into them, failed miserably.

    • andrew191

Supply side economics work just fine when the government gets out of the damn way. For about 100 years now, the true principles of capitalism have been undermined by ever increasing government intrusion. A totally free market governed only by enlightened self interest is an ideal that has yet to be realized. This looming “swindle-us” package will be the final and fatal blow to a free economy. But that’s exactly what Obama and the libs want, isn’t it?

      • cynic

The government got out of the way in the form of broad-ranging deregulation. Look at what has happened without regulatory “meddling”.

Most people now believe that unregulated and unwatched profit-motivated entities simply can’t be trusted. You can’t trust the people who invest and handle your money. You can’t trust health insurance companies to make coverage decisions in your best interest. You can’t trust the quality of the merchandise you pay your hard-earned money for. You can’t even trust a processing company not to send out peanut butter that’s already tested positive for salmonela.

Basically, I want the government to intrude a bit more into some things. And I want them to be watched closely as they do it.

        • andrew191

To fully understand and appreciate my point, you must realize the potential of enlightened self interest. If ESI were to be practiced to it’s ideal level, government oversight would not be necessary.

  • AlexisM

OT, but has anyone seen this? This is absolutely disgusting.

Pres. Obama Invites Hamas Terrorists to America
The New Media Journal Feb 7, 2009 | Dr. Paul L. Williams

By executive order, President Barack Obama has ordered the expenditure of $20.3 million in migration assistance to the Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza.

The “presidential determination” which allows hundreds of thousands of Palestinians with ties to Hamas to resettle in the United States was signed on January 27 and appeared in the Federal Register on February 4.

President Obama’s decision, according to the Register, was necessitated by “the urgent refugee and migration needs” of the “victims.”

Few on Capitol Hill took note that the order provides a free ticket replete with housing and food allowances to individuals who have displayed their overwhelming support of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the parliamentary election of January 2006.

The charter for Hamas calls for the replacement of the nation of Israel with a Palestinian Islamic state.

Since its formation in 1994, Hamas has been responsible for hundreds of terrorist attacks, including the 2002 Passover suicide bombing. The leaders of the movement signed the World Islamic Statement of 1998 – a document, penned by Osama bin Laden, which declared war on America and Israel.

President Obama’s executive order is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, many with ties to radical Islam, to our shores, furthering a process that was inaugurated in 1995 by Senator Ted Kennedy and the Cedar-Hart bill.

    • http://theheraclitanfire.blogspot.com/ Craig Della Penna

Ah, don’t you see? This is Obama’s new ‘realpolitik’ thinking – we’ll just take all the Palestinians in Gaza and resettle them in the U.S.
This will solve the refugee/victim problem and solve Israel’s rocket and mortar problem in one swell foop.
Of course we can easily weed out the Hamas bombers by the mad look in their eyes and their uncontrollable tendency to shout “Death to America” at every opportunity.
What a brilliant tactic from the new President-for-Life. I think it’s now time to send another letter thanking Obama for his past few days of service to the country, in order to close the “gap of thanks” that has been left since the last letter thanking him for his two whole weeks of service.

      • AlexisM

To be fair, our Manchurian Candidate “President” is busy:

        1) Setting murdering terrorists free

        2) Stopping murdering terrorists from being prosecuted for their crimes

        3) Passing legislation to allow murdering terrorists to “migrate” to America with free room and board on the taxpayers

What an agenda! No wonder he can’t take care of us Americans. Oh yeah, he doesn’t really like us anyway.

      • Johnny Smithfield

OGG- You made your displeasure with the President abundantly clear. My question to you is what exactly would YOU do to fix the economy?

Or perhaps a better question would be WHAT EXACTLY WOULD the MCCAIN/PALIN TEAM HAVE DONE? More tax cuts (which is what McCain is calling for) have already been tried repeatedly and has failed as a proper stimulus…and given the gravity of the situation we cannot afford more of the same!

Always easier to throw stones from the cheap seats, my friend (as Obama himself has found out!).

Not sure what Hillary could have done differently either. Chances are if she had secured the Presidency, she would have had the same advisors around her (Summers, Rubin, Reich, Guettner) thus probably a very similar approach.

        • AlexisM

Johnny, are you serious? What he SHOULD do is roll up his sleeves, actually read the stimulus package, and red line it like crazy. Pelosi wrote it, he couldn’t care less what’s in it, and yes McCain and Palin and/or Hillary at least know what the hell they are doing. He doesn’t and he doesn’t seem to really care, other than about getting his way. Oh yeah, he “won” remember? So we have to all do what he says. What a bust.

          • Johnny Smithfield

Don’t you remember the Saturday morning cartoon “How a Bill beceomes law?” All bills originate in the House of Reps, not the WH.

My guess is once in conference committee, a lot of the crap will be cut by the moderate senators and the WH.

Repubs totally misplayed this one. First rule of negiotion is make your first offer a way to establish a negotiating position. That’s what the Dems did.

Instead of accepting Obama’s overtures at bi-partisanship and having a seat at the table, they snubbed him and are going to be shut out. The Democrat are going to get almost everything they want.

            • AlexisM

No they aren’t going to get what they want. And there’s something really wrong with you, actually, if you read that Pork Bill and support it. There’s no reason to, whether you are GOP, Dem, whatever. It’s a piece of crap.

        • Old Grumpy Guy

I have said what I would like to see – a major brainstorming session on what kind of society the US wants and how to get there, involving a rethink on the whole economic system of incentives and rewards; plus an imaginative new initiative like Star wars or the Space Race, geared perhaps towards energy independence and anti-terrorism (or both, or more). That would be a good start, but there is no evidence that Obama is thinking afresh or imaginatively.

          • ChooChooMagoo

            I’m with you 100% OGG.

a major brainstorming session on what kind of society the US wants and how to get there, involving a rethink on the whole economic system

So how do we start? How do we get the american people engaged in the discussion of americans future now, instead of sitting back and waiting for the politician to find the ways that will make the most money for themselves and big business.

            • OldGrumpyGuy

Well, a good start would be to elect a leader who has the integrity and the vision to help bring it about. Unfortunately that did not happen.

        • Dawn

          Johnny,
Bambi sent Larry Summers to the Hill, the idea was to get an 800B bill passed as stimulus, they thought they needed 1.2 trillion but couldn’t sell it. Summers said bill should be temporary and targeted and had a few suggestions for the bill but Pelosi took the reins and Bambi didn’t fight her for them or tell her what should be in the bill, all he cares about is that it’s passed within 30 days of his inauguration so that he can come on TV on the 24th and tell all of us about how wonderful he is and how much he’s doing for us.

        • http://firefox AnnieCollier

For starters, I wouldn’t give $20billion to the Palestinians instead of the unemployed American worker.

          • OldGrumpyGuy

            • AlexisM

‘Bama hates America himself so why wouldn’t he open up the checkbook and transfer our wealth to his real friends like Hamas, Palestine, etc.? We all knew this was who he really is. Too bad the losers in this country didn’t listen to us, as we all have to pay for their ignorance.

              OGG,

I love Bill Gates and he has done an enormous amount for Seattle and the world but lately I’m finding frustration in his charity.
We have so many people suffering right here in our own country and wondered if it ever crossed his mind to take part of that 50 billion in charities and just help the poor here in the US instead of all these wishful endeavors to cure the world of disease which probably will never happen.

              • OldGrumpyGuy

I agree, SM. America needs to fix America first.

              • Ferd Berfle

I find frustration in his using Windows users as unpaid employees by releasing products that are aren’t nearly ready for market and then asking us to both pay for the product AND do his testing for him. That new business paradigm and twenty cents will still only get you 20 cents. I’m switching to Linux, where I get what I do or do not pay for.

        • Cubs in 09

…what exactly would YOU do to fix the economy?

I know this is an “after-hours” post but…

I would propose a few ‘do-ables’ and not this behemoth of a stimulus spending bill. The bill could should not be more than a few pages. I would say, “Less is more.”

          1. Implement a 6-month Federal income tax holiday to put money into people’s pockets now!

          2. Lower all income tax levels for everybody (individuals and companies) for X months/years.

          3. Freeze all Federal spending across the board by X%.

          4. Propose a big national goal for energy/transportation—a la the Apollo project—(to be implemented mostly by the private sector) and achieved in 3-5 years; this would spark creativity and innovation, increase R and D, create both blue-collar and white-collar jobs, and build long-term economic security in numerous sectors.

          5. Tell people to stop living beyond their means and save for a rainy day. [This could not be legislated, but the President should 'spread the word' and not 'spread the wealth'].

Hey! That’s my ‘bill,’ and it took less than a page.

          • Cubs in 09

            3. Freeze or cut by X% all Federal spending across the board.

Propose a big national goal for energy/transportation—a la the Apollo project—(to be implemented mostly by the private sector)

Only if any breakthroughs belong to the public who paid for them and are not patentable by the private sector. I’ve had more than enough of private companies taking government money and then patenting what they created so they take even more of our money.

            • Cubs in 09

Oh, I think it would have to be a joint government/private sector project. I was thinking of when JFK set the national goal of going to the moon. That sparked process of invention and economic development, e.g. new fabrics/materials, advance in medicine, etc.—and let’s not forget Tang!

              • Ferd Berfle

I remember watching Neil Armstrong place his foot on the lunar surface. It was riveting. That was one government program that did what it set out to do and on time, to boot. Very few other government programs can lay claim to the same.

                    • Cubs in 09

And poor Michael Collins. He had to stay in the Command Module while Armstrong and Aldrin got the glory. A lot of people don’t even remember his name or that there was a third person who took care of the shop while Neil and Buzz did their thing.

Second only to engineers are economists. I’ve been engaged to economists twice (one micro- and one macro-).

I guess I have a thing for guys whose profession starts with ‘e.’

    • AlexisM

azzhat…You are so right. It’s a disaster, which is why 6 states are passing legislature to secede from the union is his BS doesn’t stop. With an expected total number of 20 states so far doing so. Lot’s of confidence in the PIT, right?

      • Johnny Smithfield

Secession of the South (aka Jesusland) and TX would be the best thing that’s ever happened to this country. And please take Alaska with you!

        • AlexisM

Will do Johnny, gladly! America is never going to die just because Obama wants it to. We’ll just leave the ignorant folks who support him in what will look exactly like Venezuela soon. And we’ll recreate America elsewhere. You want the hellhole Obama will make this country? It’s all yours honey.

        • Don’t mess with Taxes

Yup. The Real Republic of America, centered around a state that helped put George W Bush in the White House twice–having already elected him governor twice…

          • AlexisM

As opposed to Herr Hitler Obama and Herr OBiden? ROFLMAO. Anything’s better than those two haters and idiots.

          • Don’t mess with Taxes

There’s an interesting relationship between each state’s political leaning and its high school graduation rate.

      • obamastolemyboyfriend

I want my state to secede! Let me out of the bog of eternal stench (from the movie the labarynth)!

        • athena

Texas is one of the few states that can succeed simply by voting to do so. Seeing as Texas was a country before it was a state, it had its OWN constitution and was quite clever in protecting soveriegnty before agreeing to join the union.

  • AlexisM

What I see is someone who has absolutely zero regard for America or Americans. He’s an idiot. Period.

  • elise

What a maroon! He thought he could go to Washington. win over the Republicans and there would be so much love, they would do things his way. If he had spent more time in the Senate, he would have realized change comes slowly by working the system the way it is, but he doesn’t understand Washington and Chicago are not the same playing field. We tried to call our senators over the last few days to protest this spending bill, but the circuits were always busy and I don’t think calls of support were jamming the lines. I guess it’s redundant to say they don’t care what we think?

  • madamsecretaryofstatehrc

Some ask above what happened to Obots, why they are not defending “the naked One”. Well they are beginning to realize that he will not pay their mortgage and or car payments and they are losing their jobs just like the Independents and Republicans. So self-preservation is stting in.

The emperor wears no clothes, indeed!!

I, too, expected that he would at least do some good in the beginning, but…….to mess up this early, wow!!!

  • madamsecretaryofstatehrc

Where did the money come from and when is the MSM going to do some investigative journalism? Or is that an oxymoron for them?

  • ChooChooMagoo

    What no pictures?

    Enjoyed your post OGG.

  • We Won

Unhinged, hysterical losers to the end!
Goodness, I pity all of you fools!

    We Won

    • AlexisM

Hey We Won…pathetic! You didn’t win anything other than the Booby Prize of an incompetent creep. Good luck with that! In the meantime, we will all make sure that his reign of terror on America doesn’t last too long.

    • FLDemFem

Yeah, you won.. and now he has to govern. Too bad he doesn’t have a clue as to how to do that. Perhaps you can go to Washington and show him how. Someone should.

  • Tess

Well, speaking of naked emperors, y’all are gonna wanns check out a NYT blog I won’t even link: Judith Warner writes of Domestic Disturbances, the 2/5 screed about all the folks who wanna have sex with Obama (one fantasy includes his “purple lips”). Folks, I can’t make this up, and/but hope my note escapes moderation.

  • stefcal

Im not surprised at all. He never run anything in his life as complex and tricky as a government, with all the drama that it carries and the multiple and opposing interests clashing. He was permanently in campaign mode during his political career. And now he is supposed to be the manager of the 1st economy in the world.

the funniest thing is to see on tv all these so called pundits and journalists, awkwardly trying to argue that Obama has a special gift that impresses them and amazing management and governing skills.

  • bert

As soon as I read the title of this post I knew who wrote it – OGG.

Great post, as usual, But the thought of seeing ‘the one’ neked as a jay bird turns my stomach. Talk about major turn off.

  • socalannie

So far, O’s presidency has been exactly what I expected of him–no genuine leadership, no new ideas, and basically being the front man for the Dem leadership and the weirdo billionaires who put him in the white house. In other words, he the dem version of GWB, which I have been saying for months.

  • AOK

As usual, you PUMAs are failing to grasp reality. The package President Obama requested will pass and it will succeed. President Obama has lead from the front and will continue to do so, unlike the loser he just replaced. He will succeed and America will be better for it.

There are two things utterly wrong with your comment, toodles.

      1. It relies on the fallacy of the unknown fact, which is fallacious.
      2. It presumes that what the politicians have wrought is actually what the country needs, which a fact also not in evidence.

I would say that you should try again–but you really shouldn’t.

    • Peggy Sue

Wow, AOK. You really have swallowed the message whole. Talk to us in another 2-3 years. You may find the kool-aid coming up in an unattractive spew.

Lead from the front? The head lemming, I’d suggest. We’ll all fall over the cliff. And the fall won’t pretty for believers or non-believers alike.

    • AlexisM

Wow AOK…He’s failing already and it’s under three weeks. Do you read?

  • OldGrumpyGuy

Do you blindly swallow every bit of the Obama BS?

“The emperor indeed has no clothes”

thank goodness he at least has the sun glinted chiseled pecs!

i was with you OGG, I thought we should at least SEE if he indeed did follow through, somehow, and come up with something good. So far, SO NOT impressed.

  • Peggy Sue

Yes, I agree, OGG. The “vsion thing” seems to missing in the Obama equation. Even the MSM seems to be having second doubts. ie. Gail Collins and Maureen Dowd, NYT columnists who were seemingly drunk and blind on the “hope and change” wagon, now pulling out the whiney card–oh, but we didn’t know, how could supporters be so gullible.

Maybe, just maybe, Dowd and Collins and their mouthy ilk are to blame–no real investigation or serious questioning, the rha-rah mentality leading the lemmings to the cliff.

However, I’ve been returning to voices I’ve read in the past and realized how prescient some people have, in fact, been. If only they’d been listened to–in the past and now, in the moment.

I’d recommend a recent article by Niall Ferguson in the Los Angeles Times and picked up by the Salt Lake Tribune:

    http://www.sltrib.com/opinion/ci_11648197

and a longer, historical view by Ferguson in Vanity Fair:

    http://www.vanityfair.com/politics/features/2008/12/banks200812?currentPage=1

I found these articles highly informative. And unfortunately, it’s not what I’m hearing from either side of the aisle.

From where I sit? We’re screwed by politics as ususal. We’re screwed, big time.

  • Linda C.

When Kennedy wanted his moon program, we had a working economy and a working banking system.

The republicans feel emboldened with their “charge” of cutting taxes as a ruse to the American public. They just want to be “relevant again” and will take the country down with them. To ask any of these yahoos to think outside of their egos, never mind outside the box, would be refreshing.

  • Patience

First of all, a disclaimer: Anyone who recalls any of my posts knows I’m no fan of the POTUS and never have been.

Slightly O/T but since there have been references to it on this thread…

Ever since I read about the $20M Executive Order for Palestinians, I’ve been trying to find out more about it. So far, what I’ve found doesn’t appear to be as bad as it seems on the surface — from what I can tell the money’s going to the UN relief effort (and it’s not an Executive Order). AND, the US has given money to Palestinian relief before. SOS HRC supports it.

I haven’t been able to verify the claim that Palestinians are being given funds to immigrate to the US — I’ve only seen blog posts referring to it.

Does anyone know of a credible article about this issue that offers some perspective?

    • http://firefox AnnieCollier

That’s what I heard initially as well…UN for rebuilding and relief. I did forward the article from the blog referenced here to some of my immigration contacts and asked if they knew anything about Palestinians immigrating…will let you know if I get a reply.

  • JustMe

No teleprompters for his presser and the two town halls this coming week. I can’t wait.

The true “bho” is quickly coming to the surface.
I won, You will do what I say, my way,
clinches fist, ( my toys, you can’t play with them )
    My way, or no way.

The “bho” did not win an election, but by typical
Chicago politics ( mob politics, using the
communist organizations started by Saul Alinsky ),
corruption, criminal acts, coercion, and the backing
of every corrupt and socialist entity from around
the world, the office of the president of the
United States was bought and paid for, just to sit
the puppet bho, the mouthpiece for the Chicago
socialists, to now become the mouthpiece for the
    international socialist / communist mob.

The snake oil salesman , “bho” only got enough votes
due to the socialist controlled press, corrupt
organizations such as acorn, and the same totally
ignorant morons who follow the ilk of American idol
    and its like.

This along with the orchestrated economic garbage by
the demoncrates, and their rino associates, along
with the legal cover provided by demoncrates in
state and local government, allowed the entire
voting process to be corrupted to place “bho” in
the office of the president of the United States
    of America.

This puke has done not one thing in his entire life
that would warrant his even running for office of
the dog catcher, and if then, he probably would
have had to produce documentation as to his identity
and his background experience for this office.
None of which has ever been produced for bho’s
placement on any ballot as a candidate.

What do we really have sitting in the office of the
president, a pretender, a slick talking snake oil
salesman, or just a plain ol megalomaniac, who has
delusions of grandeur, who is being used as the
puppet to destroy the United States as the free
sovereign nation as we have known it for the past
    couple hundred years.

Is it possible the ignorant sloth’s who voted for
this snake oil salesman, may have placed the next
Hitler, Joe Stalin, or the new Mao in the office
of the president, or is this the new mugabe,
    or our own edie amin.

This starts off with “I won”,, but when does this
go to the thugs coming in and dragging off all
who do not agree with this clown. When do the
civilian “brown shirt” security force come into
play to enforce the thinking of the new ruler, or
    dictator ( “I WON” ).
His attack on a talk show host shows the thinking
that the voices of the American people must be
silenced, as he and his ilk in the congress and
senate cannot stand scrutiny and criticism of their
    abhorrent thinking and ways.

This aberration in the white house, cannot be
allowed to succeed, as if bho is successful, the
United States of America as we know it, will
be history, gone, and another European style
socialist garbage dump will ensue. Freedom
as we know it as Americans will be gone.

Stand tall citizens, learn, educate, and prepare
for the impending battle of the mind and your
freedom. Freedom is not legislated, but fought
for, and paid for in blood and lives.

Jesus told his apostles, keep your sword sharp,
your skills sharp, and be prepared to defend your
self and your family from bandidts on your path.

In the spirit of bipartisanship, I’d say that both Grumpy and WildChild have ‘valid’ points of views. If only they didn’t use personal type of attacks, they could each have provided us with two different yet FASCINATING perspectives….too bad….so No Quarter to either?.
    Good post!
