Can any of the Hillary bashers explain how she got reelected to the Senate with 67% of the vote if she is so unpopular with Republicans? Did they all go into exile or what?

Off topic:
It would be VERY helpful if you would expand the "recent comments" list to include more than just the last 10 comments. It is way too easy to miss a response to a comment in the various topics when there are 4 or 5 new comments each day.
And some of the commentors here make several cogent responses to different threads in a very short period of time, thus shoving other cogent comments into devnul.
Active blogs have this issue, it is a good issue to have compared to having no one comment. So please expand the recent comments list.

About a thousand years ago I held a job in college called, "Gas Station Attendant." This was in a medium sized town in Florida, on one of the main routes into the Sunshine State from the north.

One afternoon a big Cadillac with NY state places pulled into the drive. The driver, complete with pinky ring and shades, ordered a fill-up.

He asked me: "Ah, whaddya youse people do fer amusement around here.?"

I gave it a three-count and replied: "Fishin', huntin' and, myself, I like to read the NY TIMES Obituaries!"

Oh my, just when all the little Hillary haters were having things go their way. You cannot tune in a cable "news" channel without seeing wall to wall Clinton bashing. Only Olbermann has tried to keep some balance and that was severely tested when he had Zsa Zsa Huffington on last night to take a few swipes at the Clintons.

Ahhhhhhhh. And don't forget Frank and Nick. Krugman's the only one who's been halfway decent to Clinton, mostly because he's so alarmed by Obama's poor economic stimulus plan and health care plan as well as Obama's praise of the GOP.

Well, did we really expect the NYT to consider why Hillary won't release her White house records, or voted for Bush's war or is willing to divide the Democratic party and make race and gender issues to get back her spot in the corrupt White House establishment? How revolting that we may have to watch Bush Sr. and Bill go on their globe trotting jaunts as George W and Hillary plan the next divisive decade.

For the news cycle to be "24/7, there sure are alot of reruns. With so much going on you figure a guy like Greg Palast employed for ever.

The Times has apparently decided to make its endorsement of Clinton public before the Democratic primary in South Carolina this Saturday.

The American Communist Party showed up in 1931 with a Jewish Brooklyn lawyer to defend the Scotsboro Boys somewhere in Alabama where they had to pipe the sunshine in. We all know how that went.

Suuuure, folks in the cradle of the Confederacy, with a tug at the forelock and with cap in hand, will do everything the yankees at the New York Times tell them to do. You betcha.

Einstien defined madness as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Yes, Virginia, we are all barking dog mad.

It is difficult to rely on any of the polls, except for the one where people actually vote. First, it is hard to determine likely voters in a primary. At least in a general election, one could use past voting history. It is very likely that a Democrat will vote that way in a general election. But in a primary, there are three or more democrats running. Second, there are a large number of undecided that are not given in the final figures. Some of these are leaning one way and just need something to justify their vote. Many are deciding when they step into the voting booth.

As for the NYTimes endorsement, Hillary does have home field advantage. As for their columnists, they cover the whole range of the political spectrum. Will Ms. Dowd be any more disappointed than David Brooks or Will Kristel? Ms Dowd doesn't have to make any endorsements. Her candidate is obvious to anyone old enough to read.

Italy: The Blackshirts are Back

"The Prodi government has fallen and blackshirts (see picture at the top of this post) have taken to the streets in Rome. If this scares the pants off you, it should.

Prodi's misery is all the fault of a certain squirrelly character by the name of Clemente Mastella, a right wing Catholic with sympathies for fascist l'Allianza Nazionale party and a friend of The Mob.

Prodi's unwise decision to name him Justice Minister was the result of compromise. The majority governs with a razor thin margin, provided by Mastella's centrist party, the UDEUR, which had demanded the Defense portfolio but received Justice. Mastella's wife, who serves in local government in the south, was recently indicted on corruption charges and Mastella himself has been under investigation for corruption and abuse of power since October.

Mastella resigned a few days ago, setting off such a tumult that there was vote of confidence in the Prodi government. The vote passed in the lower house but failed in the Senate, where the UDEUR abandoned the government. One courageous UDEUR Senator, Cusumano, was mobbed and gagged when he attempted to vote to support the government (middle photo).

The Berlusconi-led right is positively gleeful to the point that they popped champagne in the National Assembly.

Dark days ahead."
