Ditto: the point being is that it is NOT a democracy - not what kind of one.... it just isn't one at all.

Unbelievalbe. You cannot vote for what you cannot see. Not even if it works. It makes no difference - nobody had any responsibility and couldn't have had since you can't be responsible for what you don't know. You can only blindly move along in lockstep behind the idiot leading the parade and that's the guy who doesn't really know where he's going.

It is pathetic that this bill was passed without any type of scrutiny. I supose that is what we should expect from all the other stimulus, tarp social security and health care reform bills that are waiting in the wings to make their entrance. We certainly saw the demonization of any opposition and the very bizarre claim that Obama was making an effort to be bipartisan. Is this what we call representative government?

This really isn't about Democrat or Republican, but I do think that there are forces that are working to demonize the opposition in order to justify what will come next.

Anyone who disagrees with what is going is being characterized as Un-American, obstructionist, and bad. It will make it easier to do what they plan - the Fairness Doctrine is just one step in this. Silence anyone who disagrees - the Fairness Doctrine could not possibly be about bringing balance to the coverage, or it would include the networks and the newspapers that do nothing but slobber over anything Obama says or does. There are those that believe that this will never stand up in court, which is probably correct, but that isn't the point -- the point is to swarm the radio stations with lawsuits and complaints that must be fought, and thereby paralyze them into submission. Stations will be forced to change their formats, or pay the price through constant sabotage.

I'm not a Limbaugh fan, nor am I a fan of Hannity, etc. but I will defend their right to speak, as I would defend the rights of others. Sometimes, these people are the ONLY ones willing to tackle the information drought that we find ourselves in.

Beyond the fairness doctrine, I see much to worry about on the horizon. It is clear that our lawmakers, by and large, no longer believe that they must vote the conscience of their constituents, and this puts us in danger as a nation. It is just going to take one spark to ignite this into something really bad, and I am more afraid than I have ever been in my life.

there's one difference; a lot of dems voted for the patriot act. not too many repugs voted for the Ozero special interest pay-off bill. as always, dems caved, repugs didn't, for better or worse.

If you are going to have single payer health care for all Americans first you need to have more doctors, nurses, hospitals and testing facilities. 2 Billion will not give us a single payer system. It would cost 3 trillion.

You don't insert a new health care system into a bill which nobody has read. It must be discussed with the American people. There is only one thing in this bill which has to do with health care and that's to make sure to so dilute Medicare that it will no longer be insurance for Seniors. It will instead be used as a vehicle to keep seniors from getting health care.

This bill will be a failure of such monumental proportions even the media won't be able to ignore
the damage this bill will cause.

OGG, War And Peace (without the peace) is a perfect anaology for this bill, the congress and inhabitants of this once great country. Not reading what they sign is not something new in congress, however. They all pretty much vote the way their respective parties tell them to and "repent at leisure". I've had this vision in my head for weeks now of the country divided along the lines of the old Mason Dixon except North to South instead of East to West, folks on either side screaming at each other it's the Democrats fault, NO, NO! It's the Republicans fault while both sides sink into a fault line or bog. Maybe I could suggest a toon for Pat? Our economy and our status in the world is self distructing and we are to blame because we perpetuate the partisan bickering.

Well, even Obama was still declaring he wanted it on his desk Monday to sign, making Sherrod Brown have to leave his mothers wake, fly back to DC to sign his Stimulating Spending Bill and then have to fly back the morning of his mother's funeral.

Really low.

And, I'm sure Sherrod will remember this.

The emergency appeared to be that Nancy Pelosi was off to meet the Pope in Italy. So we got handed a Crap Sandwich because she had to jet off for vacation.

Yes, no doubt Sherrod Brown is THRILLED with this latest development that he needs to do more political Grandstanding and wasting so much more tax dollars to fly his ass to Colorado for another faux applause fest and Photo op. So early on. What, does he think everyone will forgive him and drop their draws for a 2nd shot with his upcoming plea for additional funds for the TARP funds?

I think we'd all rather join Dennis kucinich on a trip to Zircon and have an alien probe.

And when did any congressional staffer have time to read those 1000 pages?

The fact is that is the most unethical use of a crisis for legislators to get their share of hometown pork and buy votes for their next election. But it is not anything that will stimulate the economy right now.
