This past election showed how irrelevent it can be made when the opinions of the masses are being manipulated. What will be interesting is what happens at the midterm. No hopey dopy running. Numbers should drop like a stone. With any luck, the balance can return somewhat. At least, that is what I am praying for.

These are the people I want running “public opinion.” The under informed.

You have that one right. I'll even go a step further--polls are irrelevant except the one at the ballot box. Public opinion is both fickle and potentially biased, depending on the mood of the responder and the wording of the particular question. That's why one sees such disjointed results. It is junk science.

Julie - this is NOT all the fault of the Repblican party. The housing bubble, and the sub-prime mortgage crash is a major cause of this problem. You need to do a little more research. and you need to research who is to blame for the sub-prime crisis, and deregulation.

Are these the same people who thought that Palin was bobo's running mate? Or that he was against abortion? Yeah. These are the people I want running "public opinion." The under informed. Yeah. Wait until it is something that Julie here finds important and see what she thinks of the "great unwashed." She'll be running them through the car wash.

So long as ABC and the rest of the MSM gives a pass to the new regressive (sic) party and castigates the opposotion for the same behavior (Sherrod Brown using government jet to be the 60 vote on the porkulous package good -- Ford, GM, Chrsyler execs using private jets paid for by THEIR COMPANIES bad) we are forced to go to sources that actually report facts. I don't like it, but there you are. The Washington Post publishes EVERYONE's comments. The NY Times? If you are articulate but don't agree with the uber left? You are stuck in moderation. And. If you are out of line so that they can ridicule you? You get posted immediately. They want what you do Julie .... uber left and ultra right. Those two extremes will rip this country into two.

a. what the heck is so great about being a democrat? many/most of the people on this blog started out as dems, and many bailed on the party after what happened this primary. the Dem party is full of corrupt pols, who pulled the most vile crap this past primary. I am proud to no longer be a member of that ass backwards party. I still hold some liberal views, but the party abandoned their principles.

b. what is so wrong with being a republican? i find it so hysterical that Obama supporters try to *discredit* people by calling them *repubs*.

Obama supporters use every left wing talking points. And, considering how the DNC operated this past primary, they sure don't sound *democratic*.

Julickee,

My point exactly! You have stated the stimulus package talking points ad nauseum.

Were you listening when R. Emanual said it was a good time to put things in the bill that you've always wanted?

If this is such a dire circumstance, you don't have time nor the inclination to include such fluff.

No one here is arguing that investing in infrastructure is bad or wrong-- it isn't. It's just that it's only a small percentage of the bill.

The problem is that you only identify with the neatly packaged label (i.e., liberal, progressive, conservative) and you can't think past those to really look at the big issues.

Stop the lovefest!

AGII ... don't try to reason with these people. They are still sucking at the 0mama teet.

$13 .... when the people getting assistance are bennefitting more from not working .... there's a great plan.

Also, wasn't their messiah making fun of little sums like this when HRC and JSM were suggesting a short gas tax holiday? Called it pennies? I guess it's just not significant when you are getting it from his competition. But when you are buying loaves and fishes, it is a huge amount ... these people needed to stay in school a little longer.

Julie -
"it gives a significant tax break to the middle class, which will hopefully put more money in people’s pockets and get them spending again."

I heard the tax cut are $13/week, ($400/year) which is not significant.

Could you please explain what the significant tax breaks are?

I also heard that there are so many loopholes that many people won't qualify. Small business, especially.

It's not about labels, it's about ideas and actions.

The people on this site write about content, ideas and words.

You'd make a fine parrot with the right costume.

Why don't you try to explain what you object to about someone's writing

instead of just cheerleading for "what you just know will happen in the future...!!"?

If you think Democrat = Democratic you're a political novice.

nobody has asked me to defend the stimulus bill, but I will since you asked:

it will create jobs, hopefully this will slow the rate of decline or help kick start the economy

it gives a significant tax break to the middle class, which will hopefully put more money in people's pockets and get them spending again.

it will invest in infrastructure that will help the country in the future. some desperately needed areas will be getting some new money

it will immediately help out states, with medicade and other funds, who desparately need cash right now..

that is four directions that the bill attempts to help the country and the economy. since the private sector is not working right now and the interest rate lever cannot go any further down, the government is the last resort.

it may not be large enough of a bill, but it is at least an attempt to get things going. the side benefit is that the democrats get to push their agenda in energy, the environment, healthcare and education.

it is not much different than what just about every country on the planet is doing now.

sure the stimulus will add to the debt, but the U.S. can afford it. the real "public" debt as a percentage of GDP will only climb back up to about where it was during clinton's time.

a mortgage plan is coming next and a more difficult plan to help the banks continues to be drafted.

all of this would not have been necessarily if the republicans you now support did not screw this up in the first place.

You may not call yourself republicans, but you sure sound like them with your republican talking points and with you only quoting hardcore republican media. Every single article quoted on this website, with which you all agree, has been from not just right wing columnists, but from extreme right wingers. quack like a duck, must be a duck. You are certainly not democrats, as you attack every single thing democratic on here.

corruption in the liberal utopia
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi's home district includes San Francisco.
Star-Kist Tuna's headquarters are in San Francisco , Pelosi's home
district.
Star-Kist is owned by Del Monte Foods and is a major contributor to
Pelosi.
Star-Kist is the major employer in American Samoa employing 75% of the
Samoan work force. Paul Pelosi, Nancy 's husband, owns $17 million dollars of Star-Kist
stock.
In January, 2007 when the minimum wage was increased from $5.15 to $7.25,
Pelosi had American Samoa exempted from the increase so Del Monte would
not have to pay the higher wage. This would make Del Monte products less expensive than their competition's.
Last week when the huge bailout bill was passed, Pelosi added an earmark
to the final bill adding $33 million dollars for an 'economic development credit in American Samoa '.
Pelosi has called the Bush Admini! ! stration "CORRUPT"?
