The Skill Set of “The One”

(bumped up from earlier today)

Aside from a few months in Springfield, Illinois, and a fly-over of the U.S. Senate, our president has zero skills to bring to the fore in handling the incredibly complex crises, national and global, that this nation faces. Such lack of experience AND knowledge requires that he return to the only skills he truly has learned:

(1) CAMPAIGN RALLIES:

To pass his stimulus package, and having no skills with which to negotiate that much-vaunted “bipartisan” approach, President Obama returned to one thing he knows how to do: Mesmerize a campaign crowd. Here he is at a stimulus package rally in Elkhart, Indiana:

elkhart-rally-s

(2) SCHMOOZING:

Let’s face it, most of the years he spent in Chicago were occupied with “schmoozing” with the powerful and influential. That vaunted community organizing??? Just more schmoozing. …

Obama the Entertainer: In this Feb. 22, 2009 file photo, President Barack Obama offers a toast to the nation's governors during a dinner in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington. (AP Photo/Haraz N. Ghanbari, File)

If we had his daily calendar for those years — oh, where is that calendar, by the way? — I bet we’d see mostly phone calls (long phone calls) and lunches (long lunches in NICE, expensive restaurants) while the constituents froze in their unheated apartments run by Obama’s benefactor Tony Rezko.

And so NOW, Barack and Michelle are renewing what they did, all they did, in Chicago: Eating, making “a game of circles,” kicking up their heels, and downing bubbly beverages whilst glissading among the designer-clad, fawning D.C. prominent members of the upper-crust both socially and politically.

Can you begin to imagine the all-out battles to get invitations to the exclusive soirees of the charmed circle?

From the A.P.:

Obama kicks up White House entertaining

The White House is the place to be on Wednesdays.
Since the presidency changed hands less than six weeks ago, a burst of entertaining has taken hold of the iconic, white-columned home of America’s head of state. Much of it comes on Wednesdays.

The stately East Room, where portraits of George and Martha Washington adorn the walls, was transformed into a concert hall as President Barack Obama presented Stevie Wonder with the nation’s highest award for pop music on Wednesday.

A week before that, the foot-stomping sounds of Sweet Honey in the Rock, a female a cappella group, filled the East Room for a Black History Month program first lady Michelle Obama held for nearly 200 sixth- and seventh-graders from around the city.

Cocktails were sipped during at least three such receptions to date, all held on Wednesdays.

Bookending the midweek activity were a Super Bowl party for select Democratic and Republican lawmakers and a dinner for governors, the new administration’s first black-tie affair. It was capped with a performance by the 1970s pop group Earth, Wind and Fire. And a conga line.

The flurry of entertaining is in keeping with the Obamas’ promise to make the White House a more open place for everyone.

The governors’ dinner was “a great kickoff of what we hope will be an atmosphere here in the White House that is welcoming and that reminds everybody that this is the people’s house,” Obama told the state chief executives after they had dined on Maryland crab, Wagyu beef, Nantucket scallops and citrus salad.

“We are just temporary occupants. This is a place that belongs to the American people and we want to make sure that everybody understands it’s open,” he said.

At the dinner in the State Dining Room, the Obamas looked comfortable, chatting and smiling with their guests. Afterward, they escorted the governors down the hall to the East Room, which had been arranged with few tables and chairs to encourage dancing to “September,” “Boogie Wonderland” and other hits from a musical group Obama listened to growing up.

The conga line formed after the media were escorted out and, apparently, after Obama had called it a night.

“Thank you also for waiting until I had left before you started the conga line,” the president told the governors the next morning. “I hear it was quite a spectacle.”

Some Obama guests say he immediately puts them at ease. He indulges them and serves cookies, too.

“People like me felt comfortable in his presence,” said Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif., a self-described “poor country boy” who said he felt like a “freshman going to the senior prom” when he attended a White House reception for leaders of the congressional caucuses.

“Sometimes when you’re in the presence of the most powerful person in the world, in the most powerful democracy in the world … I was in awe that I was comfortable,” said Honda, chairman of the Asian Pacific American Caucus. “I think that’s his style and how he grew up, who he is.

[...]

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn, said Obama was very cordial, and he and the first lady made guests feel comfortable. The president talked to everyone before the game started, she said, including a 12-year-old boy who asked Obama where the bathroom was.

“My favorite part was when he personally served us cookies—oatmeal raisin—when we were watching the game,” she said.

The gathering in the White House theater over hot dogs and hamburgers was one of several get-to-know-the-members events Obama held as he lobbied Congress to support his nearly $800 billion economic recovery package. His efforts produced no Republican votes in the House and just three in the Senate, but Franks said he still appreciated the Democratic president’s efforts to reach out to the opposing party.

“I think the value of social interaction like this is not so much that it co-opts anyone in any way. It certainly didn’t in my case,” said Franks, who described his conversation with Obama at the party as substantive. “I think it humanizes and personalizes opponents. We can diminish politics and try to work together for what’s right for the country.”

Michelle Obama is doing her own entertaining, too. When her husband visited Canada last month, she organized a “girls’ night” at the White House with secretaries, policymakers and popcorn for a screening of “He’s Just Not that Into You,” the first lady told People magazine.

Obama played the role of “first fan” at the Wonder tribute, and opened up about his and his wife’s common enjoyment of Wonder’s music.

“As Stevie knows, I’m a huge fan. And he has been a great supporter,” Obama said before presenting the award-winning singer-songwriter with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song from the Library of Congress.

He said Wonder’s songs “became the soundtrack of my youth” and that in them he “found peace and inspiration, especially in difficult times.”

Obama presented the medal to Wonder, then wrapped the singer in a bear hug. As the media were led out of the room, Wonder struck up “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours,” which was a staple of Obama’s campaign rallies.

How apt that Mr. Wonder sang the song from President Obama’s campaign rallies. Even the schmoozing carries with it the reminder of the only other skill the president has.

Another awesome post Susan. The American people must wake up from their mass delusion and throw this bum out.

Thank YOU SO MUCH! As i just told someone below, it is so gratifying to receive kind words — we do put a lot of time and work into these stories, and we try very hard to lend some creativity to our writing and to the structure of the story.

OBAMA has REMOVED THE CHURCHILL STATUE FROM OVAL OFFICE!

What a jerk and the Brits are fuming over his historical ignoramus mentality!

LARRY SINCLAIR’S NEW BOOK will be sold by Barnes & Noble! Larry sent Michele a letter describing in detail Barry’s genitalia and apparently she’s in tears since receiving March 3 the letter registered to her.

OT: Remember, early in the elections, the interview wherein Obama stated his dislike of our National Anthem, because it seemed “violent…like bombs bursting in air…”

It seems like the Obamas were very excited to try all the WH goodies as soon as they moved in with an early trip to Camp David, trips on Air Force One and Marine One and, apparently, mucho entertaining.

Personally, I’d be happy if the Obamas did less entertaining and more work right now.

Time to get over being given the keys to the candy store and get serious.

Paulie was trying, but the guy was clueless. If he didn’t like the question or the inference that the media was being sexist, he would just answer, I don’t know. What I would like to hear from him, is why did he write a book about this past election, if he didn’t check out the details of how Obama stole the primary. He should know everything that was happening, and yet he was clueless about so many aspects of this past election. Honestly, if I could have reached through the computer and knocked that guy upside his head, I would have. You could tell that the guy from Newsweek was all about the historical significance of electing a black man.

What I am waiting for is the first “day with the President” article. I want to see if he puts in an eight hour day for $500,000 a year, plus perks. And that doesn’t include flying time or parties, I want eight hours, minimum, in the office, every day of the week. Half time on weekends. After all, he is President, and some people see that as a 24/7 job. Apparently, Obummer doesn’t. So far he is treating it like a part-time job. Sort of like the Ill. state senator job, except it pays more, he gets more press and we pay for the parties.

Oh, and this just in from CNN..cheap is the new chic. Seriously, the newest thing is dressing and eating well for as little as possible. One doesn’t get brag rights on anything if you paid full price for it..brag rights start at 50% off, from what I read. So clip those coupons and go to bargain basements and thrift shops if you want to be with the “in crowd”.

    • Mack The Knife

I want to see if he puts in an eight hour day for $500,000 a year, plus perks.

      You actually think he doesn’t?

        ——wait for it——————-YOU and me!

So, when That One flys on AF-1 for a photo opportunity or goes to basketball games and drinks beer in front of children, guess who pays for that diggleweed—————– wait for it—————— wait for it ————————————————-You and me.

Stop the lovefest and send me your address so I can send you my bills.

      • elise

You actually think he does, Mack? I’ve read he likes to stay up late and sleep in, then he has to do his work-outs. He’s been on the job less than two months, has taken his wife on an Air Force One outing to Chicago for dinner and spent a weekend at Camp David ( Air Force One) and taken a trip to Virginia for a Democratic caucus ( Air Force One again). He parties hardy on Wednesday, serves exotic beef to soften up the opposition ( that didn’t work )and the really important job of entertaining heads of state hasn’t even begun. How can he top lobster and cobe beef? Green cheese from the moon served with Almas caviar, saffron flavored La Bonnette topped with white truffles? We are in the middle of a dangerous GLOBAL RECESSION and the AP is writing a society page column on the White House?

        • FLDemFem

Camp David is in MD, just a few exits down the parkway from the WH. They use Marine One, not Air Force One to get there.

  • C.S.

Nancy Reagan once complained that there were no “crown jewels” to wear to the royal wedding of Charles and Diana and she had to borrow jewelry to wear in order to “fit in”. She thought we needed our own “crown jewels” for the position of president.

Looks like the Obama clan also believes their new job is to be wealthy socialites instead of “cloth coat” examples to a nation in deep economic trouble. They should try to emulate Harry and Bess Truman instead of royalty. Or JFK and his wife who put aside “frivolous” things when they entered the White House – she gave up her Paris designer clothes, he returned his salary to the treasury.

But our two political parties have created a new “monarchy” from the couple who got their start from dirty money given to them by Chicago criminals, domestic terrorists and wealthy middle eastern campaign donors with suspicious ties to terrorist organization.

And the noveau riche Obama couple may think they are socially on top but they are both just gouache and embarrassing the way they flaunt the perks paid for by the nation’s economically hurting tax payers. That shows how much they don’t care about our country and the contempt they feel for those of us paying their bills.

          Very true, my friend.

    • Mack The Knife

Nancy Reagan once complained that there were no “crown jewels” to wear to the royal wedding of Charles and Diana and she had to borrow jewelry to wear in order to “fit in”. She thought we needed our own “crown jewels” for the position of president.

How does the Nancy comparison square with Michelle Obama’s inclination to wear inexpensive clothing as her “fashion statement”?

Or JFK and his wife who put aside “frivolous” things when they entered the White House – she gave up her Paris designer clothes, he returned his salary to the treasury.

The Kennedys were also extremely wealthy. And I don’t recall the Clintons abandoning their salary, either. Nor should they have.

But our two political parties have created a new “monarchy” from the couple who got their start from dirty money given to them by Chicago criminals, domestic terrorists and wealthy middle eastern campaign donors with suspicious ties to terrorist organization.

This statement doesn’t make sense. When you say “our two political parties have created a new ‘monarchy’”, are you saying the GOP wanted Obama to win?! There are conspiracies, and then there is the crazy…

And the noveau riche Obama couple may think they are socially on top but they are both just gouache and embarrassing the way they flaunt the perks paid for by the nation’s economically hurting tax payers. That shows how much they don’t care about our country and the contempt they feel for those of us paying their bills.

Oh give it a rest. 95% of American taxpayers are going to get a tax cut. President Obama has included a $680 BILLION down payment on universal health care in his 1st budget. Don’t tell me they feel nothing for those of us paying our bills.

      • Ferd Berfle

You were one of those left behind during the Bush years, huh, Goob?

$680 BILLION down payment on universal health care

Ask Geithner where the money is coming from. He’ll say, from doctors that make over 250K a year. They’ll make more afterward by raising their fees to cover for the higher taxes.

      • Lyn

Michelle’s clothes are only inexpensive when she has to actually PAY for them, she has no problem wearing freebies of expensive clothes and jewels.

        • Ferd Berfle

And the crap still looks as though it would be at home in a house from the 1900s keeping the stuffing on the living-room divan from escaping its confines and onto the floor.

          • Lyn

Don’t forget the old chenille bedspread she wore to the balls.

      • elise

Except his new Secretary of the Treasury can’t explain where the money is coming from to make these things possible, Mack. But I guess the sky will open, celestial choirs will sing and manna will fall from heaven (or maybe from China which our children will have to pay back plus interest).

      • C.S.

First, I haven’t seen Michelle Obama running around in “inexpensive clothes” but I guess that is determined by what you consider “inexpensive”, isn’t it? My version is more like WalMart’s Chinese imports. By the way, how much did she spend on that coronation gown? $60? $600? $6,000? Considering most Americans are now not buying new clothes and all the fuss over Sarah Palin needing the GOP to supply clothing so she would look as “presentable” as all the other women (including Mrs. Obama) on the campaign trail, I think you protest a little too much.

are you saying the GOP wanted Obama to win

Sure am. Otherwise they would have crushed Obama with Ayers, Wright, Rezko, et. al and made much of Soertoro/Obama spending at least a million dollars rather than show the Supreme Court and the voting public his papers. The GOP put Bush II in power for 8 years, you think they couldn’t have gotten rid of Obama if they had wanted to. Think Swiftboat.

The Kennedys came from a wealthy background, the Clintons and the Trumans did not. The Obamas came into office with a whole lot of money, a big mansion and not much to indicate where it came from other than the Rezko “gifts”.

We were a prosperous country when Kennedy arrived and not in an economic crisis but he still returned his salary to the Treasury. Our country is on the verge of economic collapse and Obama is spending our tax money celebrating himself with elaborate conventions and coronations while millions of us are losing our jobs and are homeless. Bush gave us a tax cut, too, and look how that worked out.

There are a lot of similarities between the Reagan administration’s economic problems and Obama’s economic mess; both have to deal with major job loses, homelessness and banking systems on the verge of collapse and yet both don’t seem to be bothered by the consequences born by ordinary citizens. And their attitudes toward we little people are similar.

And you can support your guy all you want, but you’ll never convince me that we didn’t get more for our money from President Clinton. And Secretary of State Clinton has already proven that we’re getting more for our money from her than we’ve gotten from Soertoro/Obama in the same amount of time.

Speaking of skill sets, economics is definately a foreign language for the great one.

I saw this interview of Obama with Gordon Brown (certainly no Winston Churchill – more like Neville Chamberlain – clueless):

    http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/03/03/politics/politicalhotsheet/entry4840788.shtml

    What Obama said was startling!

Obama: What I’m looking at is not the day-to-day gyrations of the stock market, but the long-term ability for the United States and the entire world economy to regain its footing. And, you know, the stock market is sort of like a tracking poll in politics. It bobs up and down day to day, and if you spend all your time worrying about that, then you’re probably going to get the long-term strategy wrong.

Is he serious! He is comparing the Dow or S&P to political polls. Some one of those economic clowns he has hired should explain to this elected moron that every time the stock market goes down it means real people’s investments (their mutual funds, their retirement accounts, their pensions) do down. It is NOT a friggin’ popularity contest.

Also this is not just bobbing up and down. It has been nose diving since January.

    Then the anointed “genius” says:

Obama: On the other hand, what you’re now seeing is profit and earning ratios are starting to get to the point where buying stocks is a potentially good deal if you’ve got a long-term perspective on it. I think that consumer confidence — as they see the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act taking root, businesses are starting to see opportunities for investment and potential hiring, we are going to start creating jobs again.

Again, one of this useless economic idiots should educate Obama that it is a P/E which PRICE to earning ratio. Not profit.

Guess how many newspapers and broadcast networks will pick up on this tonight?

Are there grounds for impeaching a President based on sheer ignorance?

    • lark

It is a great catch. No questions about it. Should give obots like Cynic a good cause to pause.

    • Ferd Berfle

I had the same concerns on another thread. That One is an abject idiot. He talks a con-man line and gets the bots all frothing at the mouth but he leaves me cold. I didn’t like Dubya at all until That One came along. And as I longed for the Clintons during the Dubya Administration, I will look back to Dubya. What could have been had HRC been elected. A pox on extremists of all stripes.

Termo, makes me crazy when hear crap like that. It’s like listening to a middle school band practice day after day.

Profit? OK Then! It chaps my hide to sit here like the majority of Americans and realize 50% of my investments and 401k just up and disappeared like a fart in the wind, and he’s telling me it is good time to invest? IN WHAT? If I could find a US company that made shoes, I would ’cause a lot more are gonna be walking.

      Great post.

If it is a good time to invest then how come he isn’t?

      • beebop

LOL! I’ve been having these nightmares too.

The AP story is disgusting. It sounds like a column from the society page. I recently read an article about Eleanor Roosevelt and the Depression which the Obamas could benefit from. It seems she served hot dogs also…… to Queen Elizabeth and her husband. She limited the number of White House receptions and wore inexpensive clothes in deference to those suffering from the depressed economy. These gestures sent a message to Americans she knew they were hurting and would not forget their plight even for the Queen. Obama is right about one thing: It is our house and we have a right to protest when he uses it as his personal play ground. Thank you for this information, Susan. Obama is no different than the CEOs of Merril Lynch, AIG, Citibank et al.

Oh, give me a break all other presidents did this, even bill clinton and george bush. They all did. Even if it was a republican president, McCain would also be spending just as much.

If McCain were president and behaving in the same way, I would be protesting in the same way. This isn’t a time of prosperity and small things can make a difference. Like referring to the stock market as a poll. That statement is so utterly uninformed, it’s impossible to do justice to it with a simple snark.

    (3) Inspiring irrational expectations.

Kenya is set to achieve tremendous development following Barack Obama’s election as US president, a top Indian government official has said. “The feeling of being Kenyan now has a high value and can change the country,” Mr Modi said as he congratulated Kenya and Mr Obama for his win.

    SUSAN

THANKS for a great post that made me shudder thinking about THE ONE’S past….

I still remember the song *Jesse Jackson* Jr., his co-campaign chair (who uttered a racial remark about Hillary being a white woman and the “natural thing” to be beaten by a black man!).

This was NEW HAMPSHIRE and the song was SIGNED SEALED AND DELIVERED! They didn’t feel too happy about their song after the results were announced and Hillary beat him by about 6% of the votes!!!

If it weren’t for the busloads of black illegal voters shipped out of state and the rigged caucuses and muscling in of black women by the Obama Thugs, the outcome would be different….

OBAMATHUGS are now in the White House….and how apropos tha tEMMANUEL RAHM’s middle finger is permanently on the job! While Jon Favreau is the CUTE BOY WONDER….

Can’t wait to read Larry Sinclair’s book “Cocaine,Sex Lies and Murder?” that’s just out!!! Amazing!!!

    Thanks Susan….

we now have a potus that has done absolutely nothing to earn or deserve the position other than being lucky enough to have inherited more of his father’s pigmentation than his mothers.

The Wednesday Nite Soirées at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, as well as the “Let Them Eat Cake” mentality of Obama and his wife will eventually come back to bite him in the A$$. People in this country are hurting very badly now and he goes out to lecture us all on responsibility and sacrifice when he does neither. (Only the best for him and MEchelle.) It is not only sickening, it is a flagrant use and abuse of his new found power.
