On February 12, 2009, in Buffalo, NY, 44-year-old Muzzamil Hassan, a prominent Muslim businessman, was arrested for having allegedly beheaded his wife, thirty-seven year-old Aasiya Z. Hassan.

mo-assayaWhat was Aasiya’s crime? Apparently, days before Aasiya had served Muzzamil with divorce papers.

pappas-ny-nowBio: Marcia A. Pappas was born in 1950 in Albany, NY.  In her capacity at
the National Organization for Women (NOW), she has held several leadership positions.  The most recent and present position is that of President of NOW-NYS.  She is the primary lobbyist for NOW-NYS where she fights for the rights of women and girls.

Marcia travels extensively to colleges across NYS, has been quoted in major newspapers and law journals and her works have been published in several prestigious news outlets.  Marcia has been described as the “most visible activist in NYS.”

Marcia has given her life to helping women achieve their goals.  Marcia is committed to assisting women in their quest for economic security and ending violence in the lives of women.   During her recent work, Marcia has worked to expose the misogyny and sexism that is rampant in our society.

Making a difference in the world is about working together towards the same goals.  During Marcia’s years as a women’s rights activist, she has always believed that “Together  Everyone Achieves More.”  That’s T.E.A.M work!   .

    Thanks for the heads-up on the show, Susan. I tuned in and was grateful that Ms Pappas did not make excuses for this barbaric crime. I was also heartened to hear that she was “not” an Obama supporter.

    My question is still open on this matter: where, oh where are the moderate Muslim voices protesting the butchery of one of their own? A woman, yes. But a Muslim woman. Is her life so petty, so insignificant that no Muslim will rise up and say: No! This was not right. This is not what Islam represents.

    Why haven’t we heard from them? When, for God’s sake, will we hear voices raised in outrage and condemnation? If not now, when?

    “In order for ‘evil’ to prevail, all that need happen is for ‘good’ people to do nothing.”

    When? When!
