On February 12, 2009, in Buffalo, NY, 44-year-old Muzzamil Hassan, a prominent Muslim businessman, was arrested for having allegedly beheaded his wife, thirty-seven year-old Aasiya Z. Hassan.
What was Aasiya’s crime? Apparently, days before Aasiya had served Muzzamil with divorce papers.

Bio: Marcia A. Pappas was born in 1950 in Albany, NY. In her capacity at
the National Organization for Women (NOW), she has held several leadership positions. The most recent and present position is that of President of NOW-NYS. She is the primary lobbyist for NOW-NYS where she fights for the rights of women and girls.
Marcia travels extensively to colleges across NYS, has been quoted in major newspapers and law journals and her works have been published in several prestigious news outlets. Marcia has been described as the “most visible activist in NYS.”
Marcia has given her life to helping women achieve their goals. Marcia is committed to assisting women in their quest for economic security and ending violence in the lives of women. During her recent work, Marcia has worked to expose the misogyny and sexism that is rampant in our society.
Making a difference in the world is about working together towards the same goals. During Marcia’s years as a women’s rights activist, she has always believed that “Together Everyone Achieves More.” That’s T.E.A.M work! .
