There’s the seminal 2006 Harper‘s article on Exelon’s influence over Obama. Then Washington Post blog reported on January 18:

Clinton has also made the topic a key point of attack against rival Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, putting out a radio ad that refers to Obama as being “hip deep in financial ties” to Chicago-based energy giant Exelon Corp., a nuclear plant operator that supports the Yucca waste site.

While Obama called the ad misleading during a campaign stop Thursday, his financial ties to Exelon appear to be inescapable. A cursory search of his campaign finance report shows 158 contributions from people who identify themselves as Exelon employees, totaling more than $150,000 …

Exelon Corporation, “the nation’s leading nuclear-power-plant operator” is Barack Obama’s “fourth largest patron.” “Obama helped to vote down an amendment that would have killed vast loan guarantees for power-plant operators” — “called ‘one of the worst provisions in this massive piece of legislation’ by Taxpayers for Common Sense and Citizens Against Government Waste; the public will not only pay millions of dollars in loan costs but will risk losing billions of dollars if the companies default.” (Harper’s)

            In looking at blogs on HuffPo and Alterman,DKos,etc., I notice a violent animus to anyone who dares question or reveal any unflattering information regarding their religious deity Saint Obama. The whiplash of vitriol, foul language, and intolerance is frightening and revelatory.

            I never expected the race card to be played with such intense hatred, or the ominous signs of reverse racism and evident intolerance expressed regarding honest discourse or criticism of Obama. Obama as a politician of long standing in Chicago’s mean streets and the corridors of the Senate is not an angel.

            He is a politician running for president against an opponent for the nomination of president and should understand that opposition and attack are all part of the deal.

            This is not his first campaign. He has been anointed by people who show a great deal of mean spritedness when Obama’s obvious flaws, “deals”, mistatements, or contraditions are called out and the Obamatons go beserk with rage and vitriol.

            The lynching of Hillary Clinton is all part of Sociopathetic America. We watch the sadomasochistic exercises on TV that pretend to be News Shows, and violence and sexism that pretend to be entertainment.

            We are a violent country… Guns, hate, gossip, smut,bias, rape,murder.

            The detachment shown by Obamatons to valid questions as to Obama voting records, donors, and affiliations are always left unanswered and another attack on Hillary ensues.

            Granted, Hillary is not perfect, and as a politician there is much to question, and we have heard it all. But Mr. Democracy pretends to be pure and above it all and it seems that Obamitons simply cannot tolerate any healthy and necessary examination of his record and affiliations.It’s Hate Hillary all the way.

            Obama has been clearly hypocritical, and has misled many into a cult enviornment that is dangerous in every way to the democratic process that insists upon daylight.

            I truly hope that Obama does not succeed in becoming President. I see him as divisive. And I begin to see him as strange. This may sound paranoid, but what is the shadow mustache he has on his lupper lip when the makeup is sweated off? Is he growing a mustache to appear presidential or is this code?

            Should I try to type more slowly for you? The STORY here is HYPOCRICY– Obama claims that he’s a “different kind of politician” but he’s NOT. Under these circumstances, writing that Hillary is the same makes no sense- no one is arguing with you!

            You are acting like a parishoner who is told that her beloved pastor who has been preaching against immorality for thirty years has been cheating on his wife all that time, and responds with “well, so what- his accuser cheats on his wife too, so what’s the big deal?”

Telling me that a hypocrite is running around saying I’M different from the other hypocrites. That gets filed under the Well Duh heading.
              Watching Susan do the old “selective quote to support one hypocrite over another hypocrite technique” was a bit more interesting.
              Watching this site completely ignore the fact that both candidates are owned by the same 5 financial corporations that have and are screwing the economy big time was what my response was about.

                As he claims to be pure and inspirationally entitled to lead America’s people into his world view, then we all have the right to ask this lightweight just what has he done? Why has he accepted money from Exelon lobbyist for $227,000.00[New York Times article 1/08]? His vote regarding Exelon and it’s morphing from one stage to aother, his ties to Rezko, his entire background should be proudly displayed if he is to be considered America’s best hope.

                It’s absurd to think that Obama is entitled to be taken on blind faith and any question regarding his past be disregarded? Why? He is no different than any other candidate in this respect. Obama is not entitled to immunity and the race card will wear very thin ASAP.

                I know about Hillary. Probably more than you.We hear it daylong on all the Media and Hillary Hate keeps us well informed.

                But the point is……WHO IS OBAMA?
                WHAT has he accomplished? WHAT EXACTLY ARE HIS VOTING RECORDS? WE WANT DETAILS about Rezko and his affiliations in Chicago with his law firm that enabled Rezko to trash federally subsidized low income housing units into bankruptcy and foreclosure. WHAT DID OBAMA DO ABOUT THIS AND WHY DID HE CONTINUE TO ACCEPT PATRONAGE AND SWEETHEART REAL ESTATE DEAL THAT ENRICHED HIM PERSONALLY? WHY DID HE CONTINUE TO PERMIT REZKO TO FUNDRAISE AND HELP HIS
                ELECTIONS. WHO ARE HIS DONORS IN THOSE BUNDLES?

                THERE IS MUCH MORE AND EXELON IS A SMALL PART OF THIS. Many Democrats have asked me about his ties within his Church in Chicago? His pastor is known to be anti- Israeli and anti- semitic as well as a Farrakhan follower? If this is not true, why not deal with questions that emerge now that will only enlarge with importance if ignored? These are asked by democrats who have toiled in the trenches of protest and civil rights, so racist slogans will not work.

                More importantly dodging these issues by pointing to Hillary are worthless. The GOP
                will attack ferociously if there are any skeletons and unanswered issues.

                The bottom line is: WHERE’S THE BEEF?

                  I don’t find him inspiring. I don’t find Hillary inspiring either. One of them is most likely going to be the next president. Neither of them is John Kerry. Both of them know how to fight and appear currently to be unafraid to fight.
                  I would like to believe that Fitzgerald is an honest lawyer. If his case exposes some criminality against Obama so be it. If his case doesn’t expose some criminality against Obama then so be it. Whitewater was a nothing but it hounded the Clinton’s for 8 years. Even if Rezko is a nothing, it will hound Obama.
                  Obama’s voting records are available on the senate.gov site for his senate service and on some illinois.gov site for his time there.
                  His current contributors are found on opensecrets.org
                  I have less knowledge than you appear to have about Obama’s church or its pastor.
                  No matter who the dems nominate, the knives and smears of the republicans will be out there, and no matter who the repubs nominate the dems will handle his heroism with kid gloves and deference.

                  What facts am I evading?
                  Susan posted a link to a wapo blog and selectively reprinted the part of that blog post that appears to slam Obama for his ties to Exelon.
                  I linked to the same blog and posted the following paragraph fron that blog, which Susan selectively chose not to print, which points out Hillary and Bill’s nuclear energy ties to NRG energy and its Hillraiser president.
                  Mike then posted the last paragraph of the same WAPO blog post that contains the cuddly fluffly stuff from NRG energy that is putting millions into the Clinton Charity.
                  And I pointed out that the cuddly fluffy stuff had about as much substance as anything Obama puts out.
                  It helps to read the whole thread before doing a J’accuse.

                      If it is the will of the voters that his lies are the acceptable ones this time around, then you must hope that the superdelegates do their job and keep him from getting nominated.
                      I suspect that the bothersome thing is that the facts of his lying are not getting any traction in the media yet. There being only 16 more primaries and caucuses to go, the time is running short.
                      So he overstates his wonderousness on nuclear safety, and ( purely as an example ) Hillary downplays her support for NAFTA. Oh I am beyond shocked that a politician would craft their statements to stroke their audiences prejudices.
                      So let’s talk about both the candidates ties to BIGMONEY and BIGOutsourcers. Or is that the mud that we should not toss.
                      They are flawed. One of them will be President come next January. Both of them are pledged to Goldman-Sachs and the other big NYC banks.

Saying he doesn’t do anything wrong when if comes to favors, special interest… yet Hillary does! Hillary is the bad one while he is innocent.

            So it does no good to say…look Hillary has some too …or another politican has one too…Barack is not the only one.

            It matters that Barack has dirty hands… because he looks at people in the eye and promises to be different…that he is different.

                  The only time I have heard him speak was at one of the earlier dem debates. I was more interested in what Kucinich had to say. He hasn’t been in my state yet so I have not yet been exposed to his stump style. Read a few of his speeches. Not impressed with what his speechwriters gave him to say.
                  I am a bit old for kool-aid, but I do remember Jonestown and the way another charismatic ended up getting a lot of poor folks to commit mass suicide.

              3) He is a politician, he is a bullshit artist. It is a requirement to be a successful politician. The ability to tell people what they want to hear is what is required to get elected to office.
              4) If you are upset that dumber people than you appear to be taken in by a candidate’s charms, rhetoric, promises; go out and refute the promises, expose the rhetoric, defuse the charms. My interest is explicity two fold. Which candidate gets the USA out of Iraq soonest, which candidate can handle the coming economic shitstorm which is mostly caused by the USA pissing away its wealth in Iraq.               Let’s try this, Goldman Sachs the global investment banking house from which the current bush admin sec of treasury comes, have bought both democratic candidates. G-S has given more money to each of them than Exelon has given to Obama. Goldman Sachs is making money from the sub prime debacle, is making money arranging the sales of american IT firms to Chinese companies, is making money by refusing to buy muni bonds, is bankrupting the country for their own benefit.
              GoldMan sach is a huge investor in Dem Presidential Candidates; both of them.

    this doesn’t hurt in the general. And the anti-nuke crowd are similar enough to the antiwar crowd and they don’t give a shit about anything other than the IWR vote. They are not paying attension to the fact that Obama is a representative of big energy interests as much as Cheney or even Bush.

    The left in the US is now playing dumb about the connexions between power companies (energy) and the military (war).

    The biggest contracts in Iraq are going to energy companies and power plant production.

    Many wars and military campaigns are based around seizing oil fields and denying opponents nuclear technology.

      I can post diaries there again and comments. What was my offense? Larry wrote a comment that was getting troll-rated, and so I gave him a “Mojo” rating for his comment. Having NO clue that that was instant grounds for discipline.

      The troll-ratings system was set up, originally, to get freepers from FreeRepublic — outsiders who were just there to cause trouble. NOT regular members who post a comment with which one disagrees. NOW any comment by pro-Hillary supporters gets regularly troll-rated. Here’s the kicker:

      In other words, if someone you support or with whose VIEWPOINT you agree is being unfairly troll-rated (simply for their views), you dare NOT up-rate their comment or your posting privileges are suspended.

      Even once! I’ve posted there since 2004 — at the end of 2005, I was the 2nd most popular diarist there out of over 11,000 diarists — and I’ve NEVER troll-rated anyone. But because I supported my friend Larry, I lost my privileges briefly … somehow, they got restored, which I discovered by accident one day. But I had to click the button saying that I’d broken the RULE, and that I recognized it was grounds for permanent suspension.

      Now Larry refuses to click that button admitting to his “crimes.” And good for him! It’s so mindless there, I support his decision.

      My thinking for going along with the unfairness and stupidity of the system — which REWARDS those who troll-rate because they dislike the person’s views, but PUNISHES those who support that person’s views — was that I hoped that “lurkers” were reading my diaries, and might be finding useful information.

      Now, I could care less. The bile spewed in the comments in my diary is repulsive. My comments — even a simple one like “Comments and Tips Are Welcome” — get troll-rated, and not a single person DARES to up-rate my comment.

      What happens to comments that get sufficiently troll-rated? They become “hidden” — i.e., no one except “trusted users” can see them any longer, and that’s only if one goes to the extra trouble of hunting down hidden comments. If that’s not censorship, I don’t know what is.

      Kos has boxed himself in. His audience has become so immature and repulsively biased, but they’re his “bread and butter” to keep his site going — so he caters to them. Thankfully, his page views are going down, down, down. He deserves for that to happen. Other blogs are tougher on the immature brats. Sadly, one thing they have to do is close comments often.

      I read that Big Tent Democrat at TalkLeft.com — and he leans Obama but he also has the guts to say what he thinks — has had to shut down the comments for his post calling Obama’s remarks yesterday sexist. Steve Clemons had to shut down comments for a while recently. Other sites like MYDD.com have to spend an extraordinary amount of precious time monitoring behavior, and warning people or suspending their privileges.

      Larry and i don’t do that here as much as we should because we simply do NOT have the time. I wish we did. Anyway, that’s the long, full version of what went on. (Hope there aren’t too many typos — I’m in bed resting my painful tummy.)

        My good friend and long-time pal Lurch over at Main and Central recently passed away suddenly. I am still getting information about what happened from Fixer.

        Please keep Lurch and his family in your thoughts, and I’ll post as I find out more. You can check in here or at Main and Central. I started Main and Central several years ago as a group blog for Vets who wanted to offer their own take on this misguided war and adminstration. Lurch took over the bulk of building the site, and with it a loyal readership. Fixer has been posting there now to fill the vacuum and I will too. We will be looking for someone else who might be interested in perhaps taking it over. Drop me a line at my hotmail address in the sidebar.

        When the revised bill was introduced on September 13, it met with unanimous consent. Senator Clinton issued a press release hailing “this important legislation,” saying that it would ensure that the public received “prompt notification” of future leaks at nuclear reactors. On September 25, she signed on as a co-sponsor of the revised bill.

        So, are you saying that we should ALSO not believe Hillary, as he is merely a “poliician?”

        Though Dodd does leave out the question of why Obama has received so much money from that company (have we seen it all? A power company that actually wants to be regulated?!? Libertarians everywhere will be crying ;) ), the rest of the article sounds far more credible right now than Hillary’s claims. She has nothing (other than the unexplained donations) to back up a backroom deal.

        But the main point is in Larry’s February 5th article. The Dems are going to get their asses kicked in November if they don’t pull it together. A divided team is doomed to fail.

      As she was instrumental in her husband’s presidency and by her work as a Senator, her ability to articulate and analyze complex issues beyond hope and wishes and quick cash and Middle Eastern sugar daddies, I believe Hillary understands the complexities of the economies, and hopefully, will be able to stimulate real job creation, while roping in the mindlessly obese monster Wall Street has become.

    The BUSH depression is coming. There is no way this depression can be twisted into being the democrat’s fault, yet. There is a trillion dollar a year savings to be had for the president who, facing this depression, brings the troops out of Iraq soonest.
    That trillion won’t make up for the 5 trillion in market value of book assets that have disappeared in the last MONTH. The assets are worthless, the unpaid debts used to buy those assets remain to be collected out of the remaining employed taxpayer’s wallets. The lucky 35,000 gm employees who will be furloughed will not have an income to garnish to pay these debts. The even luckier still employed government drones will. Unfortunately, being a government employee means never have to produce anything of value.

      And though I have read a lot about Chinese ownership of American assessts, I really wonder about the greater effect, the real story, there, and how China is affected, too.

      So much of what comes out regarding the economy is as pop as Chris Matthews, and I don’t trust it.

    8. Obam voted to bring low-cost foreign labor into New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina — Reality: . . . This was a slap in the face against the African-Americans who were displaced in that city. Obama also voted to place Michael Chertoff, the man responsible for the Katrina catastrophe, in charge of Homeland Security. Obama voted for Senate-Bills that gave Blackwater the funding they needed to shoot the folks of New Orleans who were only trying to save their own lives. Inextricably, the towel head voted to allow Michael Chertoff to waive all applicable laws, including murder, torture, kidnaping, and he suppoted water-boarding.

    9. Obam voted more than five times for USA-PATRIOT ACT renewal — Reality: . . . This is a Senate-Bill patently offensive to most Americans. City after city has passed resolutions condemning USA-PATRIOT ACT. Passively or reflexively, Obama chose to side with tyranny over freedom and Bush over the folks on this issue. The Real ID Act, which would allow Michael Chertoff to declare martial law and imprison Americans, was supported by ex-patriot Obama, as noted above.

    Just wanted to share my new experience.

    If your system fails to start due to an error corresponding to missing HAL.DLL, invalid Boot.ini or any other critical system boot files you can fix this by using the XP installation CD. Simply boot from your XP Setup CD and enter the Recovery Console. Then run “attrib -H -R -S” on the C:\Boot.ini file and delete it. Run “Bootcfg /Rebuild” and then Fixboot
