Truly, patriotism is good, nationalism is bad. And no doubt some people can wrap themselves in flags and it means nothing.

But the Obama campaign is making a grave mistake if they don't recognize what's happening here with the rumors and innuendo. "Obama is a Muslim, Obama doesn't say the pledge, Obama's wife Michelle is not proud of her country". These are all paving stones to a line of attack that is going to come. Some Democrats may give him the benefit of the doubt, but two thirds of the country will not.

While I kind of agree with your sentiment (I don't wear a pin, but can and will say the Pledge when asked to do so), I also think there are plenty of people who wear the pin, say the Pledge, maybe even have red, white and blue flying out of their ass, who are phony as Hell and have no idea what it all really means. Nationalism is BAD. Patriotism is GOOD. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference based on outward appearances.

No I saw this last night on ABC News and I have seen it on NBC as well. I will not vote for a Republican or a Democrate who will not say the pledge or wear the flag. Obama shows disrespect for our country and our amed forces. If he wins the Democratic nomination, I will vote for McCain.

Is it true that Obama won't say the Pledge of Allegence? He wouldn't wear the American Flag on his Lapel? He doesn't believe America is the greatest country in the world? Just asking as these are rumors on the internet.

So if Hillary is all that why is Obama getting any votes? I think the Main reason is people are tired of the name Clinton and Bill and Hill are doing Nothing to change peoples mind's. People are getting smart enough not to want to turn on their TV and watch the Pubs try and impeach Hillary from day one for the next four years. America needs some fresh air, too bad it can't be a third Party President.

Hey, Joey - nice to see a familiar handle (bjobotts) from CBR. Just could not hack the constant Hillary hate at CBR anymore - and the posts are going downhill, too. Sad.

The thing about the Deval Patrick/Obama words is being laid at Hillary's feet as an cheap attack, but the Boston Globe had reported on this some time ago - it never got any traction - and ABC News picked it up again after the Wisconsin speech, and was rolling with it before the Clinton campaign even weighed in. The Obama supporters, the "no big deal" crowd doesn't want people to think about that - much better to make it seem like this is all just desperation from HRC instead of much-needed and previously lacking media scrutiny.

Funny that this is the only sight where I have found any information or insight on Obama. Seems everywhere I've been I get nothing but Hillary hate or put downs for even asking about Obama's stands on these topics.

What I dislike about either health care plan is that they are both FOR PROFIT keeping private companies and the profiteers involved in our health care. Saying they can't get anything else passed in congress is hardly a good reason for playing safe to the money party. We already have Medicare and Medicaid and we could include the country. Obama's response to this was that he can't do that because it would put too many ins co. employees out of work...DUH! That's the point. He asked what do we do with them? Put 'em to work for Medicaire should be a natural revelation.
Whebn Clinton points out that O borrowed his inspirational from the heart speech she was immediately criticized as attacking O with some petty charge saying everyone does it. I was deeply disillusioned because I thought he was filled with inspiration and these words were coming from the heart and just flowing out only to find out he was being a phony and just acting while he led me to believe it was coming from his heart in an original moment.
When I mentioned this on one site I was told the attacks are coming from Hillary, O had permission to use another person's words. Words...it was the whole speech and he acted like they were his out of inspiration. The inspiration being borrowed too.
I wanted a progressive candidate and here he comes with these Libertarian conservative economic advisors.
Plus who would O call behind the scenes to get information ...he hasn't been around long enough to have that many connections in the NSA, FBI, CIA, DoD etc. Elected to the senate in '04 he's spent most of his time running for president.
Anyone still mentioning al qaeda's influence in Irag is blowing smoke up my butt. No one in Iraq would allow al qaeda to operate there much less to suggest they would build military bases there.
That said, unless we get a democratic congress and senate the same obstructionist tactics will continue. But if we do have a majority, then there is no excuse for not having a NOT FOR PROFIT healthcare plan or any of the other progressive policies we need. Progressive as you want to be but I'm still waiting for Obama to start listening. Thanks, I've learned alot here.

Sorry I must have missed it. Article 1, Section 10 only applies to states. I don't see anything in the text that would prohibit congress from imposing an interest rate freeze.

grannyhelen
You sound far too reasonable to be engaged in this conversation.
My biggest problem with Obama also is in his health care plan. I don't much care for Clinton's either, but it is closer to what I would like to see than Obama's.
Frankly, I will vote for him in November if he is the Democratic nominee. I voted for Clinton in the Illinois primary knowing it was probably a "wasted" vote. Interestingly, she won in Saline county (an adjoining southern Illinois county). Unfortunately, knowing the history of the county, I suspect it had more to do with the color of his skin that belief in HC's ability to be President.
My bigger worry about this election is the tone of voice people seem to be employing in their 'lectioneering. Seems to me you don't have to tear down an opponent in order to promote the candidate you favor. I agree that if Obama gets the nod, the Republicans will unleash their most rabid and disgusting smear tactics. Really nasty stuff. On the other hand, I would really like to see a candidate less inclined to enable Isreal's aggression against the Palestinians. So the very thing that the Republicans would be most likely to attack him on would be a reason for me to vote for him. I would view with suspicion any candidate that Republicans liked.
I thought his remarks on Reagan were pandering to the right and his explanation of those remarks were disengenuous to say the least. He may be ready to reach across the aisle, but I'm not. If Republicans want to work with Democrats they are welcome to but I don't feel any obligation to reach across to them, let them reach across to us. The fact that many Republicans don't feel McCain is "conservative" enough should tell you how likely that is to happen.
It seems to me that Americans put too much into their Presidential contests and too little into Congressional races. That's where the meat is. No matter which party wins the WH, it is the make-up of the Congress which will drive the agenda. The Gingrich congress drove Clinton to the right in 94, and a Democratic Congress can move either of our candidates further left. So I'll vote Democratic whoever gets the nomination. And for state offices I'll vote green because everything said here about Chicago style politics is true and then some. And it perviates Springfield politics as well. I don't trust any of them, Dems or Reps, so I'll be voting Green for State Reps.

The fact that many Republicans don’t feel McCain is “conservative” enough should tell you how likely that is to happen.
It seems to me that Americans put too much into their Presidential contests and too little into Congressional races. That’s where the meat is. No matter which party wins the WH, it is the make-up of the Congress which will drive the agenda. The Gingrich congress drove Clinton to the right in 94, and a Democratic Congress can move either of our candidates further left. So I’ll vote Democratic whoever gets the nomination. And for state offices I’ll vote green because everything said here about Chicago style politics is true and then some. And it perviates Springfield politics as well. I don’t trust any of them, Dems or Reps, so I’ll be voting Green for State Reps.
