Send Hillary Some Love

(Susan’s NOTE: Alegre is going to begin posting here. She asked that I help post her Valentine’s Day article first. She dares to post at DailyKos, but always dons her asbestos suit first. OF NOTE: If she raises just $600 more as a Hillraiser, she gets to meet Hillary! Alegre got involved in Hillary’s campaign because of the improvements in legislation and programs, brought about by Hillary Clinton, that have directly helped Alegre’s developmentally delayed son.  She speaks about that below.)

================

I love the spirit of the people who’ve signed up with our new Yahoo Discussion group, Hillary’s Voice.  I’ve never seen such a dedicated group of folks.  Hat tip to GrrlPatriot for coming up with this play on words.  Check it out…

A dozen roses: $50.00

Greeting card: $3.00

Box of chocolates: $22.00

Hillary as President: Priceless

Heck, add dinner and a sitter to the total and you’re talking about well over $100.  Think of it – you get to skip the hassles of finding cards, flowers & candy, lining up a sitter, getting to the restaurant… all of it.  Instead you get to relax at home maybe over a nice dinner and a fire in the fireplace.  Put on your comfies, pop a video in the VCR, put your feet up on the coffee table and reeeelaaaaaax.

But wait – there’s more!  Make the jump to find out how you can help me attend a reception and maybe meet Hillary herself.  But DONATE First! Ok I’m putting on my shameless hussy fundraising hat here – I need your help!As an added bonus of skipping all the hallmark holiday hassles, if you use my HillRaisers link to make your donation, you’ll help me raise enough money to attend a reception where I might (might!) get to meet Hillary in person after all these months of blogging and volunteering on her behalf.

As many of you know, I’ve been writing about Hillary’s hisherstoric run for the White House for quite a while now.  I’ve also been working with our local campaign here in Maryland and volunteering at campaign headquarters.  I’ve attended a few of her events (the most recent with my 7 year old daughter) and even shook her hand once.

But I’ve never had the honor of attending a reception or smaller event.  That could change if I can raise some $ in the next 24 hours, and this is where you come in.

There’s a reception coming up here in our area and I want to see if I can go if at all possible.  But I need to raise a couple thousand dollars in the next 24 hours if it’s going to happen.  The thought of actually meeting the woman I’ve been working to help elect would be an absolute thrill – but I can’t make this happen on my own.  I know a lot of you support what Hillary’s trying to do and if you’re thinking of donating to her campaign, now’s the time to use my HillRaisers link.  Anything will help – $10, $25, $50, $100 (!!!!) … it all adds up and it’s for a mighty great cause.

As some of you might know, I’m not some Janey-come-lately who turned up during this election just to sing the praises of her chosen candidate.  I’ve been on these boards for quite a few years now.  I’ve written about the environment, health, women’s rights, education, the genocide in Darfur, impeachment, ending the war… the list goes on and on and on and thanks to my posts about Hillary’s great record and her plans for our future, I’d like to think I’ve become a stronger writer, and I’m definitely a more committed member of this community of progressive activists.  Sure I take some abuse around here for what I post but hey – who doesn’t right?  I’ve got a thicker skin for my troubles :) This is a sound investment too you guys. Over 135,000 people have donated to Hillary’s campaign since February 6th – the vast majority of whom are first time donors. They’ve donated $13 million in the last 8 days.  And a new poll out today just confirmed what I knew in my gut… that a lot of the upcoming states will bring Hillary back into this race stronger than ever.  Check it out

Clinton Holds Strong Lead Over Obama In Ohio, Pennsylvania PollsHolds a 21-point lead in Ohio, 16-point lead in PennsylvaniaIn a new Quinnipiac Poll released today, Senator Hillary Clinton holds a substantial lead over Senator Barack Obama in the key primary states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. In Ohio, Clinton leads Obama by a margin of 55-34. According to the poll, Clinton holds a 26 point advantage among women and a 10 point advantage among men.

In Pennsylvania, Clinton leads 52-36. She holds a 20 point lead among women and a 10 point lead with women.

Also in Pennsylvania, Hillary Clinton beats John McCain by six points in a head-to-head matchup. McCain is tied, however, with Barack Obama in the state. Clinton also attracts more support than Obama against McCain in both Ohio and Florida.

This thing is still very much a horse race and I’m trying to do all I can to help keep the fundraising momentum going – with or without the incentive of this upcoming reception.

I’m doing this because I want to thank her for the work she’s done on behalf of people with disabilities – kids with developmental delays like my son who’s made remarkable progress because of the programs Hillary helped to put into place.  Her commitment to the children of this world is an amazing thing and to think we may actually send someone to the Oval Office with a background in early childhood development… it’ll be one of many firsts if when she wins this election.

I’m also doing this because I believe in what Hillary’s trying to accomplish.Hillary’s got what it takes to lead this nation forward, fix our broken health care system by making her universal plan a reality, and restore our good name around the world.  If you want to see her make it to the Oval Office – well you know what needs to happen first right?

Check out this video first – it’s amazing…  Use My HillRaisers Link to DONATE NOW!  Thanks.

PS: If you guys come through for me and we near the goal, I’ll post updates.  I’m counting on you guys – this may be my one chance to meet her!

U P D A T E Keep the contributions coming guys!  We’re only about (getting calculator out here…) We’re about half way to the goal of raising $2,000 tonight ;o)

I may get to that reception yet!!!!Thanks!

UPDATE 2: HatTip to GrannyHelen for finding this video.  Thought I’d include it as a way of saying thanks to all you contributors this evening.

This one rocks guys – check it out ;o) Yeah!

I’m seeing a lot of formatting code which is making it very hard to read the post – can that be fixed?

  • Anne

Nevermind – it’s all good now!

    • Alegre

A new feature was added to WordPress that has me tearing my hair out. I’ve asked that it be eliminated. Thanks for your patience, Anne.

Alegre, I’ll spread this far and wide. You deserve to meet Hillary for all the work you do every day — I don’t know how you do it — working, caring for children, working on a mailing list, etc. You humble us all.

    Alegre,

Great to see you here! I’m sorry I left you virtually alone over at DailyBarackos, but I was suffering some permanent self-esteem damage and needed a healthier space…

Oh, Jarhead! How good to see you! You’ve not only survived those ugly attacks at DailyKos, but you’ve gone on to greener pastures!

I hope hope hope you’ll post here again. You have such a strong voice, a great story, and lots of information and insights to share.

If any of you missed jarhead5536′s story here, just use our handy-dandy search engine. It’s a great read! From a gay man in Montana who got tired of the negativity and attacks at DailyObama.

  • Howard Wolfson

Hillary Clinton’s tactics are absolutely despicable.

    • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Ah, an impersonator, and a nasty attitude about a very lovely diary with a compelling personal story. I have my eye on you. We try to keep the conversation rational here.

    • other chris

And…what…pray tell…are these ….”absolutely despicable” tactics that Hillary is responsible for?

Come on DriveBy impersonator….is this your Noble Tactic? Pot Kettle Black.

  • Kathleen

I’ll send Hillary some love when she commits to focusing on diplomacy with Iran. Until then she will not get my love or my vote…either will Obama.

Wonder when anyone in the MSM will ask the candidates any questions about the Israeli Palestinian conflict?

Will be voting for Edwards in the Ohio Primary as will many other Ohio voters.

    • Anne

I faced that choice in MD last week – to vote for Edwards, who was my first choice and still on the ballot (along with Dodd and Biden and Kucinich and Richardson and Gravel), or vote for HRC. Or I could have also voted “Uncommitted.” Voting for Obama was just not something I could do.

I decided that a vote for Edwards (or anyone else who is out of the race) was no different than a vote for Obama, and since I knew I did not want Obama to win, and did not want to think that my vote helped make it possible for him to do so – I voted for Hillary.

In the days after Edwards dropped out, I never inagined that I would be supporting Hillary – I had felt so lukewarm about her up to that point. I’m still not boiling over with enthusiasm, and I still have a few bones to pick with her, but when I compare Clinton and Obama, it’s just no contest – it has to be Hillary.

People have to vote their conscience – and I would never suggest that you vote or not vote the way your head and your heart tell you to – just wanted to share my thoughts on why I did not vote for Edwards in the MD primary.

      Love can not be bargained.

    HOWARD..

The Most despicable thing I have ever seen in American Politics in My life time..has been the Actions of the George W. Bush Administration on both Domestic and Foreign Policys and the Incredible Abuse of Power and waste of U.S. Money and resources.. I have NEVER seen such Lies and Distortions in my Life..

    Dirty Tactics..??

The Neo cons Wrote the Book..and Picked Your Wallet.

And they haven’t even been Investigated or held Accountable for All the things they have Done..

My God are you Naive or What..??

  • justsomeone

Interesting little read at Bloomberg.com. “Clinton Used Giustra’s plane, opened doors for mineral deals” by Elliot Blair Smith

    • Simon

Again, though, is it directly connected to man like Auchi?

Another point, too, is the disingenuous activist crap Obama and his wife try to pull, Obama as community activist, another gimmick.

They hooked up with the corrupt right from the start, didn’t they, they just as easily could have been a 90′s “greed is good” Republican.

What was Obama’s public service background again, WHY did he become a democrat?

To better capitalize on Daley’s corruption?

  • justsomeone

Also apologies for my misinterpretation of yesterdays post about the reply box option. My bad. Brain on overload due to tax season.

    • TeakwoodKite

15 page 1040ez… for my son…no kidding there.

  • CABlueMuse

Alegre, I too am a DailyKos refugee.
Just used your link to send Hillary some love. If you get to meet her, tell her something my grandmother used to say:

“The rooster does a lot of crowin’ & struttin’ but it’s the hen that delivers the eggs.”

  • Herschel Greenspan

Here is a big hug for Hillary. It must be hard for her to lose ten straight primaries by double digits and still pretend that she has a good chance to be nominated.
