A few years ago my son and I watched a documentary on Teddy R. and we were floored! And he was a republican to boot!

FDR may have been great - the man we needed, the moment we needed him. But Teddy R. "WAS" the man, and he made the moments.

I don't post often but read a lot. I must say the information about TR and women's rights was very enlightening. Thanks

And so did his daughter Alice Roosevelt Longworth who inherited his straightfoward speech. She famously said "If you can't say anything good about someone, come sit right here by me."

Why is it that current populations always seem to think they're smarter and more "evolved" than their predecessors merely due to the passage of time and the development of new fangles and dangles. Wisdom is not the private reserve of contemporary thought. Contemporary thought is only contemporary because of the calendar. It has little to do with evolution. The quotations above and the life of Teddy Roosevelt prove that.

Remarkable fellow.

Funny thing. Though his words were spoken many moons past, in some circles he would be rebuked TODAY for expressing the same views. How far have we "progressed" again? Someone remind me.

By the way, here's something (sparked by this post) that continues to gnaw away at me. Because, I am convinced it means something.

The harder someone tries to hide something, my view is, the more it needs hiding.

Consider this:

By way of contrast to President (T) Roosevelt, you cannot read the senior thesis of our current beloved leader. Assuming he even wrote one (of which we have no proof at all), it is somewhere under lock and key and not available to the citizens of the nation he claims to lead. But, that's not the end of it.

Not only can you not read his senior thesis, you are not even allowed to know the TITLE.

Does that not bother anyone?

Nice piece on Roosevelt.

Maybe we need to go back to the future.

I think during an interview with a conservative newspaper in PA, Hillary mentioned Theodore Roosevelt. My impression was that Hillary was impressed the way TR governed and dealt with many situations.

It is a shame-the Republicans lost a great deal with the defection of Teddy R and we're losing a great deal by the assimilation of HRC. We *really* need a viable third party to counter the stranglehold the two major <strike>fuckups</strike> parties have on this country. And I might add, soon.

Teddy Roosevelt was definitely one of a kind. The Republicans tried to stop him by making him VP to McKinley. Then they stole the Republican nomination from him and gave it to Taft. Roosevelt took his delegates to form the Bull Moose Party. That was the last time the republican party had any progressives members. The democrats successfully stopped Hillary Clinton too much in the same manner for many of the same reasons.

<strong>"Besides being the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt was also an accomplished writer, historian, naturalist, conservationist, and rancher."</strong>

my how far we've fallen.

44th, habitual drug user, hustler and fastest rise to power in history without a single accomplishment besides the position he was promoted to and loves basketball.

I recommend Edmund Morris' "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" and "Theodore Rex". The former is about his life up to the presidency (it won a Pulitzer) and the latter about his years as president. There is a third book coming out about his life after the presidency.
