Obama’s women reveal his secret
By Spengler

“Cherchez la femme,” advised Alexander Dumas in: “When you want to uncover an unspecified secret, look for the woman.” In the case of Barack Obama, we have two: his late mother, the went-native anthropologist Ann Dunham, and his rancorous wife Michelle. Obama’s women reveal his secret: he hates America.

We know less about Senator Obama than about any prospective president in American history. His uplifting rhetoric is empty, as Hillary Clinton helplessly protests. His career bears no trace of his own character, not an article for the Harvard Law Review he edited, or a single piece of legislation. He appears to be an empty vessel filled with the wishful thinking of those around him. But there is a real Barack Obama. No man – least of all one abandoned in infancy by his father – can conceal the imprint of an impassioned mother, or the influence of a brilliant wife. …

Read. It. Now. All. Of. It.

P.S. Anderson Cooper played that Busey video tonight. I have to always credit my sources for my material! Unlike some people.

URGENT UPDATE:

Oh. And this:

Obama stiffs, stifles national press

EDINBURG, Texas – For all the positive press Barack Obama receives, as he moves closer to clinching the Democratic nomination he is establishing himself as the candidate who keeps the most distance from the national media.

Reporters covering Obama can no longer move freely among the thousands of zealous supporters at his events — unless the reporter receives a staff escort through the security gates. (In one city, that meant using a port-o-potty outside because the route to the indoor plumbing ran through the crowd.) … READ ALL.

    Woof!

That was the roughest story yet, and I want to see the reaction of the blogosphere and think about it before I decide how much credence to give it.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

From a (what?) positive Washington Post story:

Holding a rally after 10 p.m. in Houston before flying to Washington, D.C, Saturday night, Hillary Clinton didn’t come close to getting home in time to catch “Saturday Night Live.”

But her supporters did, and told her about it as she campaigned in Rhode Island and held fundraisers in Boston yesterday. By Sunday night, she was eager to talk about two segments of the show, one that depicted a CNN debate where Barack Obama was given a series of softball questions and another where SNL star Tina Fey praised Clinton, declaring women like Clinton, Fey and SNL co-star Amy Poehler were the sort — Fey used a term that rhymes with pitches — who “get stuff done.”

“I just have this sense that finally my opponent is getting maybe a little bit of scrutiny,” Clinton told a group of more than 300 supporters at a fundraiser in Boston last night. “How many of you saw ‘Saturday Night Live’?…. This wouldn’t have happened just a couple of weeks ago. People are starting to say, hey, you know what, we have two candidates, we’ve been focused on one more than the other in terms of asking the hard questions, looking at the record, and let’s start looking at both of them.”

At the Boston fundraiser, Clinton supporters approached reporters and told them it was time for them to start writing more critically about Obama.

Think they’ll take her up on that? Like Asia Times?

Read all of the WaPo blog post.

Highly amusing diary about Barack Obama trying to get a REAL job (at Chili’s!) without any experience.

  • myiq2xu

This story is gonna cause a stir. I wanna find out more about the author.

It’s definitely brutal, the question is how accurate is it?

The conclusions seem to take a long jump from the facts, but some of the factual assertions are target center mass hits if true.

  • anonimouse

Aaah, Gary Busey. He needs to get together with Tom Cruise. They both have the same intellectual depth.

But what does the Busey video have to to with Spengler’s Obama character-assassination article? Nothing that I can see.

And Spengler’s article is indeed nothing more than unsupported character assassination. Character assassination of Barack, his wife, his mother, his father, and by extension of anyone who supports Barack.

    This blog deserves better.

  • http://www.sugarnspice.typepad.com Sugar

Wow! I don’t know who Spengler is, but I’ve thought BHO was a sociopath for some time now. Only a sociopath can lie with such ease and garner the affection of the masses with so little “beef”. A sociopathic demagogue. That’s what he is.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

    Sniff.

Somebody doesn’t have a sense of humor about empty messages.

  • Iphie

Well, that was a depressing take.

Another thought — even if the opinions and conclusions drawn by Spangler (who?) might be at best tenuous, do you think the smear merchants of the right-wing are going to care when it’s their turn to define Obama?* How does that go — the secret to a convincing lie is including a grain of truth? Yep, Ayers and Farrakhan fit into this story very nicely.

*And they will define Obama to their standards, the very marketing of himself as a receptacle and purveyor of Hope(TM) makes him an empty vessel waiting to be defined by others. Just like God.

  • http://papertigertail.blogspot.com otherlisa

That really is the point. It’s not so much about what is objectively true and what isn’t. It’s what the right is going to do with this stuff, and how prepared Obama and his people are to deal with that. From his response to the fairly mild challenges from HRC during the debates, I don’t think he quite gets what’s coming his way, should he win the nomination. And that scares me.

  • TeakWoodKite

I’m still laughing thinkin of HoosierHoops post.
THAT was funny ;that was SO SNL.

  • justsomeone

Keep tryin’ & maybe you can work up a little sequel to the election of 1800. I know you got it in you. You can do it! Just keep layering on the personal attacks & slander. Masquerade it up with some silly humor & then SPRAY like a pissed off kitty into the Rovian heating vents. If you’ve been throwin’ stuff at the refrigerator & stuff ain’t stickin’ then just let it rip…SPRAY AWAY & maybe, just maybe you can stink up da house. BTW is that a strategy or a tactic? Maybe it needs a little mo’ paranoia & fear, ya know, just incase the aroma therapy gives out. Who knows? Maybe Gary Busey is right, you’re afloat, driftin’, dreamin’ you’re workin’ on Hillary’s campaign but then a storm blows in & you wake up & realize you’re doin’ latrine duty on the Straight Talkin’ Express. Peace & Luv.

  • John Witherspoon

Wow, way to post a drunken, pseudo-intellectual, crypto-christian rant. And i’m not talking about Busey. My guess is that spengler is someone much like christopher hitchens (if he isn’t actually the hitchster himself): An Eton graduate, outcast, ex-pat drunk, living in asia off of whores, snake juice, and his family’s old-money, meanwhile decrying the moral decline of the western man. It was basically an unfunny, erudite yo momma joke, with a self-referential, ironic punchline…

  • LuigiDaMan

This morning, I got up and looked at the NY Times and washingtonpost.com and I guess I should forget about voting for Hillary next Tuesday here in Ohio because according to them she has already lost.

When did this happen? How long was I asleep? What country is this? Are old men (like me) not permitted?

  • susanunpc

“You have an anchor that you don’t know you have. It is an invisible anchor. Look for it. See it.”

You just didn’t know it was the NYT or Washington Post.

Me? I’m gonna f–k Sarah Silverman.

(In stupidly bad and mostly stupid times, absurdist humor is my greatest solace.)

  • fiscalliberal

Susan – what do we know about Spengler?

Is he kind of a George Will?

Some how I know Hillary, warts and all and I see competence.

I see Obama and my first thought is Elmer Gantry or Ted Haggart.

I see nothing in Obama that shows Internatioal Diplomacy, the understanding of a Federal Budget Deficit and Debt and the real understanding of managing health care costs.

His legislative history is one of talk and caving.

So in accumulating the facts about this new apparent Jones Cult phenomana, I find the Spengler article facinating.

    However is Spengler Credible?

  • Simon

The elder Obama became a senior official of the government of Kenya after earning a PhD at Harvard.

We would joke he was a legacy admit — turns out he was.

    Jeez, as bad as Bush.

  • themomcat

Judge for yourself about Spengler’s credibility:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spengler_(columnist)
I’ve read some of his articles, he’s no Hitchens, his conclusions seem to be very “sober”.

  • Escoffier

Wow! Thanks for the Asia Times link. I am more familiar with their financial reporting which is very good so I am going to have to think about this article for a while. The Times of London today also has an article on Rezko and Auchi and it is ugly.

  • Simon

It’s definitely brutal, the question is how accurate is it?

He writes from a very stilted point of view, his facts may be correct, but his interpretation is open to question.

The author’s anti-americanism, reading like a communist manuel, c 1956, is readily apparent, and laughable, showing a distinct lack of understanding in regard to American behavioral motivations, a RIGID, shallow point of view, typical of cookie cutter propaganda. (Unless, of course, he’s been misfortunate enough to have to deal with Western “cultural elite,” his whole life).

But as to the facts he was trying to analyze, those may be correct.

  • Kahli

I am soooo NOT an Obama supporter and left my blog home of several years because things got so irrationally pro-Obama over there. I came here because I was hoping for more critical analysis.

The Asia Times Article makes me think it is not possible here either.

Are we really going to promote the idea that either of the Obama’s hates America? I’m mean really?

Also the article was repugnantly sexist with its underlying assumption that strong women are just so damn castrating.

I guess I’m just gonna have to go into a cave until this whole mess is settled.

  • Rob Gard

Just received an email from Friends of Chris Dodd advising that Dodd is endorsing Obama. I have removed my email address from his mailing list, and told them to enjoy the Kool Aid and pray that our great nation survives this mistaken infatuation with a myth called Obama.

  • Ned Bulous

    >>Also the article was repugnantly sexist with its underlying assumption that strong women are just so damn castrating.

Not only was the article sexist, it was blatantly racist and had anti-miscegenation undertones.

  • Simon

    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=25193

This link, from rezkowatch.blogspot, is also very interesting, in regard to Auchi, Rezko, Obama and IL politics.

The author calls his blog “the conservative voice,” (I’m not one to trust partisan sites) but as he mentioned, Auchi is the first to litigate, so I’m not inclined to believe the article is spurious.

Democrats who support Obama are numbnuts.

Maybe they think because Bush does it too, Auchi will just go away, but it won’t, to make that assumption is a rather broad, fanciful generalization.

And why the hell are they supporting someone this corrupt?

Because their little lives, and their children’s lives, arent threatened everyday by bombs and gun wielding trash?

  • http://democracylover.blogspot.com Charles

Frankly after reading the Asia Times article, I am more favorable to Obama. It would be a great relief to have a President who did not believe in the myth of America but rather in the truth of America. If Obama has something of the socialist independence of his Indonesian step-father, or the openness to other cultures of his mother, then that should make him a better President.

America is at a vulnerable point and that vulnerability can be used to further degrade our democracy and increase our disparity in wealth to 3rd world levels, or to make the kind of dramatic change of direction that we so desperately need.

I certainly have no reason to believe Obama (or Clinton) will “be that change that we need”, but the Asia Times article doesn’t dissuade me in the least. Also, should Obama or Clinton emulate John McCain’s relationship with the press corps?

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

I wish I had been drunk. It would have been even more fun. Stone sober, except for the buckets of coffee and free-trade Irish tea.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

That was spaghetti tossed at the wall — to see if it was done.

Take it or leave it. But I found it fascinating above all else. Such speculations about his background are fair game.

Did you also see the POLITICO article on how he’s freezing out the media? (I didn’t include this quote, but Hillary Clinton is far more open to her media entourage.)

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

As with all of Larry’s stories — particularly about William Ayers and Rezko — it is essential (absolutely essential) to keep in mind that this is what the GOP will use against Obama in a general election.

Think about it from THAT perspective. It’s vital you do so.

As Larry often says, Clinton has her own bumps in her past, but those have already all been exposed, and she’s survived them. Will Obama? Especially since it will be ALL NEW to the so-far besotted American public?

That post was simply Da Da. Bravo!!!!!

    The downside:
The trouble with casting pearls before swine is that the bastards trip, fall and then sue your ass.

  • Escoffier

My concern has been that this is simply not the kind of transaction that a public official should ever be involved. Sen and Mrs Obama both went to Harvard Law so they cannot claim that they did not understand the possible conflict of interest. The explanations have been vague, with no paperwork backing it up, and simply unfathomable at times. I have found the explanations disingenuous and playing upon the publics’ unfamiliarity with this type of very high end real estate.

  • Escoffier

This my last comment and then I will shut up. If Senator Obama is a brilliant Law Review Harvard Law grad and a constitutional law scholar (which I believe he is) then why would he do a “boneheaded” conflict of interest real estate deal that was not necessary. It is one or the other. You do not have to be a real estate lawyer or an ethicist to see serious problems with this situation. This why public officials usually clear many matters with the legal counsel of the body for which they work. I presume he did not do this or it would have been released and thus showing it was done properly with oversight. Like I said I have questions about the questions.

    Susan-
Are you going to leave the post and comments up for a day or two? I’m reading Spengler’s article and also crosschecking it with Chicago Tribune’s series “Barak Obama: The Making of a Candidate.” Spengler’s discussion re: O.’s mother’s dissertation caught my interest; I found a reference to it on Wikepedia-over 1,000 pp. I have a feeling Spengler might have started that part at Wikepedia.

  • Fred C. Dobbs

Yeah, but I LIKE Gary Busey. I use the name of his old stand-up character, “Eddie Ray Eddy,” to make dinner reservations and check into seedy motels.

  • Fred C. Dobbs

    >>> “I’m gonna f–k Sarah Silverman.”

Be prepared. That’ll make you swear off shicksas forever.

  • Marjorie

Spengler’s core argument is in his first paragraph-study Obama’s wife and mother and you will know his secret-he hates America, which Spengler traces to being abandoned by his Kenyian father and having a impassioned left leaning mother, and a brilliant wife [determined and self-absorbed might be more accurate]. While this may contain some truth-or truth for some-it is the wagon carrying his argument, and he fills it through the rest of the article. He makes little/no distinction between facts and opinions, though, and his supporting material tends to leak away. Also, his tone, shown in his adjectives [shameless, embittered, etc.] is reckless, begging the question, if his tone were measured and his claims not so far-fetched, could he make the same argument?
The claim that O. was influenced by his mother’s anthropology background [Ph.D.] from which he learned a technique-how to “elicit [people's] hope and fears while remaining at an emotional distance” makes him the “political equivalent of a sociopath.” That O is using these techniques in his campaign appears to be Spengler’s most compelling argument[to accept this argument the reader must accept his premise re: anthropologists]. Spengler’s description, however, while containing a tad of accuracy, is closer to a description of hypnosis or witchcraft than anthropology. To support his case, he cites examples of demagogues in film and literature: the file Nightmare Alley and Elmer Gantry, neither of whom were anthropologists. [Odd that he omits Huey Long and Father Conklin, real life demagogues.]
He cites Michelle Obama’s bitterness: her slip re: America and pride, her angry eyes, her undergraduate thesis at Princeton, and her early comments on O’s personal housekeepting, to support his arguement re: O. and M’s hatred of America.
Spengler’s article has enough of truth to make his interpretations interesting, the way a story is interesting, with enough events the reader can connect/remember, but overall they are sketchy truths stretched thin. It reads like an exercise for print, rather than a political analysis designed to influence public opinion.

  • Biz factor

After watching the first presidential debate, I strongly believe we need Gary Busey to take office now more than ever… enough is enough.
