After watching the first presidential debate, I strongly believe we need Gary Busey to take office now more than ever... enough is enough.

Spengler's core argument is in his first paragraph-study Obama's wife and mother and you will know his secret-he hates America, which Spengler traces to being abandoned by his Kenyian father and having a impassioned left leaning mother, and a brilliant wife [determined and self-absorbed might be more accurate]. While this may contain some truth-or truth for some-it is the wagon carrying his argument, and he fills it through the rest of the article. He makes little/no distinction between facts and opinions, though, and his supporting material tends to leak away. Also, his tone, shown in his adjectives [shameless, embittered, etc.] is reckless, begging the question, if his tone were measured and his claims not so far-fetched, could he make the same argument?
The claim that O. was influenced by his mother's anthropology background [Ph.D.] from which he learned a technique-how to "elicit [people's] hope and fears while remaining at an emotional distance" makes him the "political equivalent of a sociopath." That O is using these techniques in his campaign appears to be Spengler's most compelling argument[to accept this argument the reader must accept his premise re: anthropologists]. Spengler's description, however, while containing a tad of accuracy, is closer to a description of hypnosis or witchcraft than anthropology. To support his case, he cites examples of demagogues in film and literature: the file Nightmare Alley and Elmer Gantry, neither of whom were anthropologists. [Odd that he omits Huey Long and Father Conklin, real life demagogues.]
He cites Michelle Obama's bitterness: her slip re: America and pride, her angry eyes, her undergraduate thesis at Princeton, and her early comments on O's personal housekeepting, to support his arguement re: O. and M's hatred of America.
Spengler's article has enough of truth to make his interpretations interesting, the way a story is interesting, with enough events the reader can connect/remember, but overall they are sketchy truths stretched thin. It reads like an exercise for print, rather than a political analysis designed to influence public opinion.

Yeah, but I LIKE Gary Busey. I use the name of his old stand-up character, "Eddie Ray Eddy," to make dinner reservations and check into seedy motels.

Until Tom Cruise can tell me twenty five ways he is NOT like Rock Hudson...

Susan-
Are you going to leave the post and comments up for a day or two? I'm reading Spengler's article and also crosschecking it with Chicago Tribune's series "Barak Obama: The Making of a Candidate." Spengler's discussion re: O.'s mother's dissertation caught my interest; I found a reference to it on Wikepedia-over 1,000 pp. I have a feeling Spengler might have started that part at Wikepedia.

<em>"(In stupidly bad and mostly stupid times, absurdist humor is my greatest solace.)"</em>

Stevenson, Humphrey, McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry.....

History repeats itself, first as tragedy, thereafter as farce.

These are the founding statements of my new credo:

<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0056218/quotes" rel="nofollow">Barack Obama is the kindest, bravest, warmest, most wonderful human being I've ever known in my life.</a>

Reminds me of the novelist Trevanian with the mystery. Certainly writes well.

AND someone pointed out to me that there's another Spengler column on Obama, and I'm reading it right now:

This my last comment and then I will shut up. If Senator Obama is a brilliant Law Review Harvard Law grad and a constitutional law scholar (which I believe he is) then why would he do a "boneheaded" conflict of interest real estate deal that was not necessary. It is one or the other. You do not have to be a real estate lawyer or an ethicist to see serious problems with this situation. This why public officials usually clear many matters with the legal counsel of the body for which they work. I presume he did not do this or it would have been released and thus showing it was done properly with oversight. Like I said I have questions about the questions.

My concern has been that this is simply not the kind of transaction that a public official should ever be involved. Sen and Mrs Obama both went to Harvard Law so they cannot claim that they did not understand the possible conflict of interest. The explanations have been vague, with no paperwork backing it up, and simply unfathomable at times. I have found the explanations disingenuous and playing upon the publics' unfamiliarity with this type of very high end real estate.

As with all of Larry's stories -- particularly about William Ayers and Rezko -- it is essential (absolutely essential) to keep in mind that this is what the GOP will use against Obama in a general election.

Think about it from THAT perspective. It's vital you do so.

As Larry often says, Clinton has her own bumps in her past, but those have already all been exposed, and she's survived them. Will Obama? Especially since it will be ALL NEW to the so-far besotted American public?
