What the Lobbyists Are Saying

(bumped up from Thursday for all of you too busy to catch this critically important story during the week. This is another story that generated a huge number of comments. Larry’s story will be followed in about an hour by several new stories, but I just want to make sure that everyone reads about Larry Johnson’s experience and what he heard. It’s a “must read.” – susan)

Just got back from lunch at a Capitol Hill watering hole–the 116 Club. Private place that caters to lobbyists and Senators. I spent most of lunch looking at Tom Daschle’s wife, Linda, who was sitting at a near by table. She’s an attractive lady. I was with a lobbyist who is well plugged in with Democrats and Republicans. So he asked me, “Do you know the nickname the lobbyists have for the stimulus bill?”

“No, what is it,” I replied.

“FYGK, which means we’re going to fuck your grand kids.”

The irony of the stimulus bill is that it is bringing business to lobbyists who are being asked to paw thru the garbage and figure out how to get folks money. When you put this news with the fact the current spending bill is going thru ladened with earmarks you might be a bit leery of Obama’s promise to bring a new day to Washington.

A senior official for a very prominent Democrat stopped by our table and gave my friend an update on the spending bill. He noted that many Republicans will back the bill because they have hefty earmarks in it as well.

Let’s face it–we have a culture of political corruption in Washington that is continuing unabated and Obama is catering to it despite grandiose promises to the contrary.

One other thing is happening–very few lobbyists are willing to take spots in the Obama administration. Like it or not, many of these lobbyists are the genuine experts on the issues they cover. So who is Obama tapping to take the jobs lobbyists might have been given in the past? Hill staffers. Earnest thirty year olds who have spent most of the post-college careers acting as butt boys and girls for various senators and representatives. They may know the Hill but they know very little about the America outside the beltway. Great!! Just what we need. Youthful exuberance tempered by ignorance.

There is an irony here. The lack of experience by these people will ultimately hurt the Obama presidency. His seemingly noble efforts to exclude lobbyists to improve government and reduce corruption actually is having the opposite effect. Unreal.

I am so sick of all of this. I was sick of Obama long before inauguration day. When I contact my representatives, they just spew their message of hopey changey crap coming and it’s all good. We have got to drag the a-holes out by their shirt colars and we cannot wait until 2010!

I hope someone can prove Obama is ineligible to hold the office and make anything he signs null and void!

  • Firlight2012

Do you mean fewer lobbyists will take jobs offered or fewer lobbyists are being offered jobs?

  • http://NoQuarterUSA.net Larry Johnson

fewer lobbyists will take jobs. too lucrative to move so they will stay where they are.

  • tango

And I’ve also heard that a good number of DC staffers are jumping ship and going to work as lobbyists for the increased pay and perks. So not only are lobbyists not wanting to work on the Hill, but even lots of those butt boy and girl Hill staffers don’t want to work there either! So that even means less experienced lower level staffers are the ones who are going to be helping to make policy.

  • Strawberry

I know it’s a rough time out there Larry. But I’ve got a great little story to cheer you up and perhaps give you a bit of hope. There’s this small neighborhood Chinese restaurant that I love to go to but times being what they are, we had to cut back. But yesterday, we decided to splurge and go pig out. When we got there, we saw the place was packed. We thought, wow that’s great, business must be good. So when I saw the owner I asked her how she was doing. She said the only reason she was busy was because she had actually lowered her prices on her food (the quality was still the same) and decided to work on volume. I asked her how that was going for her, and she replied that she keeps enough money coming in to cover bills and keep all her employees on. They’ve been with her since she first opened and refuses to fire any of them. They are all pulling together and the neighborhood is pulling together to keep this place going. Customers could go to Taco Bell or McDs but because the food at this place is so cheap and good they come back again and again. The owner and her husband are foregoing profits and doing the right thing and I hope they can ride this thing out. I just don’t see why those geniuses in Washington or Wall Street can’t do the same bloody thing. But it is kind of sad when Chinese immigrants show more compassion towards American workers than the people we elect to office do.

Thank you for the terrific insight–it’s just what I come to NQ for. “FYGK”? That is so not funny.

Obama is catering to it despite grandiose promises to the contrary.

I believe that Obama is doing more than just catering to it – I think he is inentionally using it to further his own agenda which is to be the transformative President. Unfortunately for all of us it is to transform the government into socialism.

So Obama cares less about wall street and therefore less about anyone 401K’s or grandmas’ mutual fund.

It is hard to discern if Obama is ignorant and incompetent, or cares less what we care about and has his own agenda.

  • beebop

The only “noble” thing about 0bomba is his profile when he sticks that snotty nose in the air.

  • candymarl

Thank you for this. This is the kind of story that gives me real hope.

  • Juliet16

Why are Obama’s job approval numbers still so high with the market tanking?

Most of the workers in this country have pensions and 401Ks that are in bad shape….and still Obama gets high approval ratings? How can that be?

I know his approval ratings have gone down slightly since the inauguration and I am also aware that, despite the press trying to sell Obama as an extremely popular president, Obama is actually doing slightly worse (by 1%) than Dubya did at the same number of days after inauguration. Moreover, Dubya’s numbers were increasing at this point, while Obamas are, in fact, declining.

I do wonder, though, why more young Yuppie and older Ivy-league somewhat educated Obama supporters aren’t alarmed yet? Do they still believe that Obama is going to pull a rabbit out of a hat for them and make them comfortably well off by year end?

Or do they thing this Socialism thing might be a good idea, after all? Or aren’t they bothered by that?

I am puzzled. I can understand some working class and uneducated folks not being quite up to following the market and current events that closely…but the Independents and the “investor class” who backed Obama…do they still think this was a good idea?

I’d like to hear what others hear about this…if even anecdotally — do any of you notice a shift yet?

  • cathnealon

Do you think he cares about grandma’s mutual fund? He threw his own “typical white grandmother” under the bus last year. And what about his illegal immigarnt aunt in the slums of Boston or his half brother in a hut in Kenya or his African grandmother in the hut next to him?? He sees no one but himself, NO ONE. I wish people could have seen this before he put one foot in the WH–now it’s going to take a revolution or a scandal much bigger than Watergate ever was to get him out.

The only thing that is saving Obama at this point is the mainstream media which continues to lie and deceive on his behalf. Whomever said it is right: journalism is dead.

At some point people will realize the folly of this administration and the numbers will reflect that.

In economics the Stock Market indexes (DJIA and S&P)are the best indicators of where the economy is headed (unemployment is the best indicator of where we were). And the trend is decidely against Obama. It is inevitable that his popularity numbers will begin to reflect reality but slowly because of the media still giving him cover.

The poles were ALWAYS purposely skewed for the Fraud. In the Dem primaries it was so blatant. Hillary would win a state by 10-30% but they would always say prior that he was close or winning. I have no reason not to believe these are false also.

No it’s not what Walmart did. Walmart sells cheap stuff for cheap prices and pays substandard wages with few benefits. This lady is forgoing her profit so that she won’t have to fire anyone. She is giving up her paycheck to keep her staff working. No one at Walmart does that.

  • to77

    Here is an interesting note:
2006 (after 6 years of Bush and Repub. congress)-Unemployment:4.50%, Annual Deficit spending: $200 billion, Accumulated Fed debt: 8.5 trillion

Democrats take control of the House and Senate (where finance bills come from)

2009 (after 2 full years of Dem. control)
    Unemployment:7.60%, Deficit Spending:$1.7 trillion, Accumulated Debt:12.7 trillion.

with 2010 projected to be even worse. funny how it is easy to blame Bush and act like the Dems were innocent bystanders or powerless to do anything. They controlled congress at a time when the president had approval rating in the 30% range. What did they do? exactly what they are doing now. make things worse.

I would think this line of argument for mid-terms should be effective.

Walmart represents the worst America has to offer. Cheap crap no one really needs, made by people that are paid subhuman wages, that winds up in the dump two weeks later. They pay their employees crappy wages with little or no benefits yet make huge profits for their CEOs and wind up driving mom and pop stores in the area out of business. This woman and her husband are more American than Walmart execs and DC lobbyists.

  • http://www.rabblerouserruminations.blogspot.com/ Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy

It also depends on WHO they poll. Recently, there was a poll by one of the big news agencies, and they ACKNOWLEDGED that they polled 10 – 15 % more Dems than Reps or Indies. By the time that was factored in, and with the margin of error, it was statistically tied (I think this was for the SOTU, if I recall correctly). So it is all abt who does the polling, who is being interviewed, how they ask the questions, etc.

I saw that poll – ad AOL had one, too (for what that’s worth). The results at AOL were not so flattering…

  • PamFlorida

You are right-he is not keeping his promises to the “folks”. However, go back and look at his videos and interviews. You’ll realize that amidst the mesmerizing rhetoric, he said exactly what he was going to do-raise taxes, raise energy prices, redistribute wealth, everybody gets to pay for some kind of health insurance, everybody gets to pay a mortgage, save or create 4 million-no, 3.5 million jobs (250,000 gov jobs so far), talk to countries who hate us, and have a party every Wed. night in the WH.
What I want to know is-are we still going to be forced to subsidize Congressional, Cabinet Heads’, Fed Agency employees’, and lifelong civil service employees’ health insurance and retirements? Are they going to redistribute their wealth or do they get waivers?

Two things I want to say.Firstly, Obama does not have an innate love for America. He was not raised with the
4th of July, and Thanksgiving with the whole family, grandma and applepie.Put that together with the role models in his life and you have one self-centered person who loves no one but himself.
Secondly, those who voted for him are in the blame Bush for everything mode. They still see Obama as the savior.
We at No Quarter understand this situation began more than a decade ago and without a well though out common sense plan will be with us for quite some time.

I disagree completely. WalMart is an excellent corporate citizen, provide good products and is constantly improving their image and the products they sell, the respond effectively to consumer complaints, respect their customers, pay their employees what their employees are willing to accept as pay, have good corporate ethics and respond well to environmental and local needs. WalMart is the bomb. Posting today 5 pc increase in sales, hurray.

Yes I have complaints. They take the gardening stuff out for Christmas to stuff the garden department with Christmas stuff and in winter is difficult to find the gardening stuff. But I bought poinsettias after Christmas for 2 cents each. Now I have poinsettias all over my patio.

I wish I could, but it’s still bleak because well educated people I know are relying on MSM for the newsincluding NPR and PBS News Hour’s Ifill and Suarez, and Moyers. The biases of the latter are the most demoralizing part for me.

I ran into a Ph.D. at my co-op and we talked 401Ks. Then she said she thought Obama will fix it because he’s conservative. I was stunned but finally told her he wasn’t and that’s why the markets and her 401K is down – the numbers don’t add up. She looked surprised but I think I may have opened her mind a bit. She may be more receptive to other news that doesn’t fit her idealization of this black man she voted for.

It is by coincidence that Larry mentions FYGK.. Today, there is an article in the NYT “When Grandma can not be bothered” It is an interesting article which has generated a lot of discussion in my extended family. So if indeed it is FYGK, these grandmothers must be in tune with it, since they do not wish to be bothered to lift a finger to help out with their grandkids. Indeed if their grandkids will have to pay for this big debt.. these grandmas could not care less.

Of course I am different from these grandmas.. I care about my grandkids and just like my own children, we have given them the necessary tools to swim in this troubled waters.. They can help their children too, but because the debt is so huge, while we are still strong and have the necessary resources, we will also equip our grandkids with the necessary tools to compete with everyone else in their generation… My own kids are debt free and so should my grandkids and that is the best we could do for them..

The bright prospect in all this for me is that once we are over this horror story, many abuses will be exposed: the hypocrisy of both political parties, the corruption of our political campaigns, the blatant liars who dishonor journalism, the foolish women journalists who have made a mockery of feminism, the well-intentioned but misguided incompetence of Affirmative Action programs that allowed the Obamas to slide through the system, (while many others made the best of it), the racism of AA voters who threw Hillary and all of us who worked for civil rights under the bus. Obama has sold them out more than us. In time voters will begin to associate him with Roland Burriss, Charlie Rangel, Gov. Patterson, and others they idealized as bringing new visions to politics. They will understand that corruption, incompetence, and bigotry transcends skin color and gender.

No I beg to disagree, Reaganomics is trickle down.. Actually it is an ancient Chinese business secret.. By volume… you make your profit.. That is why the Chinese immigrants in Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia have become rich and prosperous because that is the way they conduct their business… But still, I give credit to that Chinese restaurant. They are just happy to help out the community and doing everything they can to please everyone including their profit..

  • NomNomNom

I’ll match you with a counterstory: I went for a walk at my local park and a bunch of Chinese immigrants were there digging up plants to sell. Last year it was our turtles and salamanders. Good riddance to the lot of them. I don’t want them loaning money to our worthless fascist government or sending us poisoned pet food or stealing our plants and wildlife. And that’s mostly cheap Chinese crap Walmart is selling. No thx to Walmart too.

Walmart only responds to complaints. If you think that Rush Limbaugh calls the shots, you should watch Walmart. They sell things that are made ESPECIALLY for them. Go to the pet food department for example. They sell a can of Pedigree dog food that is made especially for them … a unique size (and price). They are a nation unto themselves. In this economy their employees are serfs. But the serfs need their bellys full, so they can be excused. Walmart makes tons of money and feels good about donating to charity? How ’bout less charity and better treatment for their frontline employees and vendor partners?

Beebop, what was the name of that documentary about Walmart that came out a few years ago? They helped sink Rubbermade and a number of other companies were forced to move their production out of the country so that they could compete with cheap Walmart knockoffs. Not to mention, mom and pop manufacturers (ie start up companies) can’t afford to compete either. Sad. They are so powerful they actually tell other companies what they will pay for products. I buy locally to keep my money in my community.

  • beebop

I abhor the company but sympathize with those who must work there. Talk to them sometimes. While you will encounter the typical retail workers of any discounter, you’ll also find those whose companies were among those run out of town on the Walmart rail. Don’t get me started on them.

  • cynic

That “socialism thing” has been part of our democracy and capitalist economy since the 1930s. The root word is social, as in Social Security. We’ve lived in a social democracy for years. The only issue is the degree of socialism we’re comfortable with.

People obsess about the evils of redistributive schemes, but only when the democrats redistribute from the top downward. Weren’t the Bush tax cuts a republican redistribution scheme? The difference was that the flow was in the opposite direction. And what about the enormous redistribution of wealth to corporations by way of government contracting? Tax dollars to the defense industry, contractors like Blackwater, big oil via subsidies… The only difference there was that public dollars were going toward things republicans tend to like, and to companies with long histories of support for the republican party. What’s that, if not corporate socialism?

Has it been wiser and better for the country to spend trillions on war hardware than it would have been to have built a strong industry-supporting infrastructure? Smarter to wage war in Iraq–which probably will ultimately cost a couple of trillion–than to have spent the money to secure our own national borders?

Helen. I am an AA female supporter of Hillary. I am in agreement with most of your comments, however, I have to point out that in the beginning many powerful whites abandoned Hillary for the con artist Obama. People like Kennedy, Kerry, Dean, Pelosi, Reid, Edwards, Richardson (Hispanic), and a multitude of other whites. While I agree with you regarding Rangel and Patterson, they were minor players who stuck with Hillary all the way to the end of the primaries unlike the white Judases who abandoned her at the beginning. As far as “black leaders”, I personally hold people like Clyburn, Jessie Jackson, JJJr, John Lewis in utter scorn. These people were around during the civil rights struggles and knew that the race-baiting during the campaign was based on out right lies. For that deed I hope they burn in hell. IMHO they have disgraced themselves, my race and the country. Lastly, let me extend my personal thanks to all my white sisters and brothers who helped during the civil rights struggle. You have my eternal gratitude. I marched with MLK and I believe that after 40 years of progress he would be ashamed of the conduct of the men I mentioned.

Note to All: Burris is an honorable man of high character who stood up to Obama and his minions when he accepted the senate seat. They despise him because he served the state of IL well in his various capacities.

The democrats did something during those last 2 Bush years that caused this? There was some big democratic spending initiative I missed? The Bush budget will still be running through 09/2009. I get what you’re saying, but I tend to go in a circle on this one. Are we really certifying the President’s right to hold office based on a scanned copy that folks from the Daily Kos swear is real?

And the law, (as I have heard it) in Hawaii at the time allowed for foregin births to be registered and a birth certificate issued by the State.

I kind of arrive at the place where I think that Obama would save a whole lot of time if he would just show it. Maybe this is his way of stimulating jobs in the legal sector? I’ll even give him the money for the copy.

i don’t doubt his place of birth, but i am stunned beyond belief/appalled really that he won’t show it, and that he is not required to show it! Why the hell not!!

We have to show all kinds of documents for all kinds of jobs. Considering the responsibilty of the POTUS, I would think that kind of info crucial, AND considering he works for the PEOPLE of the US, we should have a right to see it.

Why he refuses is beyond me, and makes it all the more weird, AND keeps this controversy alive.

  • NoBamaNoWay

yeah, and Bush’s 2000 election was legit, too wasn’t it? i mean, after all, the courts said so… cough, cough.

you know, it would be so easy for obama to just show the original BC, but for some reason he is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to avoid having to do that, just like he has kept secret virtually every significant record pertaining to his life from day1 to his time in the US senate.

To agree with the mad fools like Dr Orly Taitz you have to assume a massive conspiracy. Bigger than that of 9/11 conspiracy theories. (The same conspiracy theorists are involved). You have to assume that there is a conspiracy involving every one from the registrar of Hawaii, to the Governor, the whole State Government and judiciary of Hawaii, as well as the whole state government and judiciary of Chicago and then the whole government and judiciary of the United States of America, including its Senate, House and Supreme Court.

All because the State of Hawaii does not release the vault copy of the birth certificate to anyone. As is the case across America.

There is a full legally certified copy here.

The dem voters did not come out in droves, and vote Bush OUT of office in 2004.

We have had a huge number of Democrat scandals, from all levels of office, this past year, and we have uncovered quite a few who have not paid their taxes.

So, I don’t think I would be excusing Dems from responsiblity. They have been pathetic hypocrits, acting like teenagers left home alone.

And NOW, they want to make it that much worse? Two wrongs make a right?

I think there is a lot of blame to go around, as to why we are where we are.

Yeah, well why doesn’t he just show his real birth certificate and not just that Certificate of Live Birth (COLB) that he posted on the internet. What is Obama afraid of? Why are all of his records sealed. Is he a citizen of Indonesia? Was he paid to attend college as a foreign student. How did he travel to Pakistan as a youth when people with USA passports were forbidden entry. How did he attend school in Indonesia when only documented Indonesians could be enrolled. What is his real name? Barack H. Obama, Barry Soetoro? Did he ever legally change his name. No wonder he doesn’t care about the stock market. He is a socialist and wants us to live like the people in Cuba. Castro ran out make sacrifices while the offshore bankers loot your pension fund, Social Security, and stocks. All American assets have been sent offshore and are used to shore up pyramid banking schemes (ie derivatives). He wnats you poor and dependent while he eats $1000 a pound steaks, flies the big jet airplane, and listens to the jive bands. America you voted for him and you have been had!

It is interesting that NQ has not entered into this debate as this is a valid issue.

Why do you not doubt his place of birth? He has not shown the birth certificate which names the hospital and doctor. He has shown a certificate of live birth. I won’t go into the differences here and the discussion about the COLB’s validity as that could go on several paragraphs and is available elsewhere.

And why does he prefer to spend over $800,000 (as of Dec–probably more now) to avoid bringing a vault copy of the birth certificate to light (costing $10 to $20–maybe? Heck, Hawaii would probably dig it out for free at this point!). There is no acceptable answer to this question–it’s not money and the election is over. He is the CIC, sending soldiers into harms way and signing bills into laws for the rest of us–we deserve to know if he is a citizen, and if he is natural born–period.

ALL of the dismissals are on ‘standing’ or ‘jurisdiction’–NONE of the dismissals are based on the merits of the case. None. Nada–not one.

Lastly, there are some who argue place of birth is totally irrelevant. A ‘natural born citizen’ has parents who are citizens at the time of his/her birth. (This is meant to insure allegiance to only our country.) Fact: Obama did not. No amount of hope changes that.

There is no ‘conspiracy’. There is the “diffusion of responsibility” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diffusion_of_responsibility and the “bystander effect” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bystander_effect at play here. (And the fact that David Axelrod makes Carl Rove look like a total amateur.) Maligning Dr. Taliz, Helen Ka, does not address the merits of the questions posed.

Larry’s comment about using Hill staffers who have no real world experience to run the government reminded me of a point made in two documentaries: Iraq for Sale and No End in Sight. It was that W kept rewarding his big donors, especially from the religious right, by giving their sons and daughters who had just graduated from that Christian university (the name of which I can’t recall at the moment) expremely important jobs in the supposed reconstruction efforts and support efforts in Iraq. It’s why nothing was completed correctly or on budget.

The absolute hubris of young people today who have no experience and who expect to run the show while still wet behind their ears amazes me.

What is it he doesn’t want us to see? He’s in office now. We’ve overlooked so much (drugs, corruption, itchy face)–anything that doesn’t affect his eligibility (like a different name) would be small in comparison.

The rights of soldiers who lay their lives on the line daily trump Obama’s right to modesty on this issue.

To me it is so black and white (no double entendre intended). We are a nation of laws and if we start picking and choosing which ones we follow…this is unacceptable.

Anyone with a 401K or IRA or any investments whatsoever realizes that Wall Street IS Main Street. Obama realy doesn’t have a clue. Donofrio is gearing up an new fight based on totally different approach, under specific statutes stating who has standing (the courts are not left to decide standing anymore as long as the claimant has it according to the statute)

And yes the BC is important but only to prove what Obama has said and written : He father was from Kenya and holding a British citizenship at the time of Obama’s birth.

BECAUSE Article II of the constitution requires from POTUS to be a natural born citizen.

Natural born is a requirement imposed only on POTUS by the Constitution and which defines a specific type of American citizens

A natural born citizen is an American citizen born on the territory of the US, from parents who were BOTH American citizens at the time of the birth.

Obama’s father was not an American citizen at the time of Obama’s birth therefore Obama is not a natural born (American)citizen.

This restrictive requirement exists to prevent the Commander in Chief to have or ever have had allegiance to another nation but the US.

  • Janice

A person’s college transcripts are TOTALLY PROTECTED by FERPA. I have worked at four colleges in various states – the Registrar’s office cannot, except with a subpoena presented by an officer of the law, release a students’ transcripts. period. so Occidental, Columbia, Harvard, wherever will not make the transcripts public.

I don’t have a copy of my birth certificate – if I need one, for example to get a passport, I would have to request one from the county of my birth and pay for it. So why do you suppose that Obama runs around with a birth certificate in his back pocket? The state of Hawaii did release a copy of his birth certificate – you all say its a fake – so what else is supposed to be done? Seriously, I’m curious as to what else one can do other than have the state of birth issue a copy? The state will not give the original up – its always a certified copy.

  • Janice

Funny, I have a birth certificate (at least that’s what it says on my ‘order’ form, I am requesting a birth certificate from the state of _____. Its legitimate, i paid for it and ordered it at my county courthouse.

  • NoBamaNoWay

  • Janice

Nope. You are wrong. nothing states BOTH parents have to be American citizen when child born in the U.S. or US territory. A person, no matter who the parents are, BORN in the US is a citizen. Obama was born in Hawaii, which at the time was a US State/territory, so he is a US citizen.

IF you think he was born in Kenya, where is THAT birth certificate?

  • Janice

SNK said that ‘it says Certification of Live Birth’ at the top. It is not a Birth Certificate.’

I was merely trying to point out that i have a legitimate what I call a birth certificate, but it states that it is a ‘certificate of live birth’.

no, your link is not a birth certificate – and my statement has nothing to do with your phony certificate of live birth.

    Is this even interesting??

Rubbermaid never rocked. The were always overpriced. Their business model was to introduce new products at higher prices. You have a general misunderstanding of the restrictive criteria demanded from the Natural Born citizen.

One indeed can be an American citizen from being born from ONE American citizen, from being born on the territory of the US, or from having been naturalized after immigration.

BUT TO BE A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN as demanded by Article II of the Constitution to be elligible to be POTUS, you have to be an American citizen who was born on the territory of the United States, from parents who were BOTH American citizen at the time of your birth.

  • FrenchNail

As I explain it in more details down below, to be a Natural Born American Citizen, you have to be not only an American citizen but one who was A) born on the territory of the US AND B)born of parents who were BOTH American citizen at the time of your birth.

Obams’s father was not an American citizen at the time of Obama’s birth, therefore Obama is an American citizen but not a “Natural Born” American citizen as DEMANDED by Article II of the Constitution to be elligible for POTUS.

The states don’t release those – what they are asking for is that he release his actual birth certificate rather than a certification of live birth. Basically, the Cert. of Live Birth doesn’t tell us where he was born, what doctor attended, etc. A birth certificate does. What he released was a Certification of Live Birth, and he released the document to the Daily Kos and his own website. If John McCain had posted a scanned copy of his certificate to Free Republic, would you have wanted someone in authority to verify it? Would you have maybe questioned why we should trust a website, and a right leaning site to boot? Absolutely!

Also, it is my understanding that the law in the State of Hawaii at the time allowed for a birth to be registered and a certificate to be issued by the state in circumstances where the child was not born within the state, so the fact that the state verified that they had a birth certificate on record for him says nothing. It doesn’t even say that the Governor has seen the cert, only that she has verified it’s existance. And actually, it wouldn’t have been legal for the Gov. to see the certificate because only the actual person or family members are allowed to do that by the state.

    cynic –

If you want socialism, why aren’t you living in Cuba?

    I don’t believe $250K is wealthy.

You adore this Administration full of tax cheats and lobbyists! 44 better than 43? They both suck.

  • Ferd Berfle

This isn’t about Shrub, who I voted against twice. This is about the redistribution of wealth being wrong from any perspective. I don’t want my wealth going upwards or downwards. I want the money I pay in the form of taxes to be spent wisely and not line the pockets of corporate- or individual-welfare queens.

  • JulieD

Over $250K is wealthy! What kind of mansion can you get? Yacht?

    That’ll help small business.

Last week I told WalMart that ALDI was another alternative I have.

At ALDI’s I have to pawn a quarter to use the shopping cart. A dear quarter that I regain when I take the cart back to the cart storage.

  • alibe

Sounds like a newly hired paid troll to lie for the One

  • Palm Tree

No Quarter did cover the COLB extensively. This won’t go over here well but, there was an elaborate scheme to dupe NQ over ‘proof’ the COLB was a fraud and Larry bought it.

I think it was a huge distraction to discredit anyone who questioned BO’s birth certificate.

As for me, I agree and think that Obama is hiding something.

  • PainkillerJayne

    I agree Karen.

  • alibe

    Lark,
You said it so well. Running for a job you know you can’t do is criminal. He is an imposter. It is like pretending to be a brain surgeon and operating on a person when you don’t know jack sh*t. And the patient suffers and dies. And the fake surgeon says “don’t blame me. I did the best job I could.” Well, he lied about his qualifications. He wasn’t qualified as a surgeon. Just like 0bama. He is not qualified to do anything but read a teleprompter. He is a liar and a cheat.

  • andrew191

I think that NQ is a little gun-shy after the whole “Whitey” flash in the pan. Remember the constant taunting from Obots on that issue? I think it is prudent that NQ keeps it’s powder dry on the birthplace/citizen subject until something with bomb-proof credibility surfaces.

Until then, there’s nothing stopping individual posters from submitting their theories. I think some of them are not only plausible, but entertaining.

  • jbjd

No, this is only your definition, presumably reached after much reading and research. And it might hold up in court, which could issue the only definition that counts. And no court has ruled on this issue yet. Hence, the reference to this as a “case of first impression.”

I could care less about his COLB. What should have been released are:

    1. Birth Hospital Records

    2. Student Loan Applications

    3. College Transcript (why would Prez. self-professed smart guy refuse to release them otherwise?)

    4. Passports

    5. Illinois Bar Application

We have a Prez who couldn’t work for Homeland Security.

    Wednesday night parties my foot.

“Barack and Michelle Obama have been throwing taxpayer funded parties nearly every night with their ‘friends’ and supporters, with Michelle Obama even exhorting them not to ‘break’ White House property,” Klayman’s announcement said.

Why does this Annenberg site go to the trouble of lying?

“We beg to differ. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate.

    [...]

“Recently FactCheck representatives got a chance to spend some time with the birth certificate, and we can attest to the fact that it is real and three-dimensional and resides at the Obama headquarters in Chicago.”

They are talking about the COLB!! Not the original long form birth certificate. You may accept this matter on faith – it is your choice.

Myself and many others would like real proof.

And women with intelligence DO NOT support a man who took part in and profited silently from sexist/misogynist attacks!

And women with intelligence DO NOT support a man who took part in and profited silently from sexist/misogynist attacks!

For sure. That rather lets all the marsh gas seep out of Helen’s puffed up ego.

  • goldengrahme

Helen, FactCheck is owned by the Annenberg
Group. Keep apace at Phil Berg’s site; he is a lawyer. It isn’t so much a matter of conspiracies as a matter of covering your own behind. Annenberg has a vested interest in keeping the lid on their own political
    proclivities. As do all forementioned
    political appointees or politicians.
    (College administrations are notoriously
    corrupted by big money, too.)

This isn’t brain surgery. Hewing to the letter of the law is a convenient cop-out
when it is expedient. When it becomes favorable to expose His Royal Highness, I
think there will be those who will give up
the info–for money or to ensure their
    perch is safeguarded.

    Hopefully, that will be soon.

His birth doesn’t matter, he is an Indonesian citizen from the moment he was adopted. Did he file the papers changing his status before his 21st birthday as required by law to have that revoked? That is what would legally disqualify him from office. He is not a citizen because Indonesian and America did not recognize each others jurisdiction at the time he was adopted so by becoming Indonesian he did not hold duel citizenship, they were mutually exclusive by law. If he did not file the correct paperwork by his 21st birthday then he is not an American naturalized citizen, and is absolutely not a naturally born one. He has no standing because of his adoption, not because of his birth, as that was legally registered and accepted by Hawaii, no matter where he was born. It isn’t even relevant because his adoption changed all that any way. When he was adopted that became his status, changing his birth status. If he did not file paperwork to change that at the time of his majority (21st birthday) then he is still an Indonesian citizen.

  • Palm Tree

PUMAS FREEPERS REPUBLICANS AND THOSE PEOPLE LOST

“And those people? Isn’t this redundant??

Maybe try something more original like “Get over it”?

p.s. a link to proof of the original birth certificate – not the COLB – would be nice. ;)

  • Ginger

All of that became void at the time of his adoption, when he be came an Indonesian citizen. What he needs to show are the papers he filed renouncing that adoption on or before his 21st birthday. Those are the only thing that could re-instate his “natural-born” status, if he ever had one. Without those papers being filed, he still would be an Indonesian citizen, no matter where he was born. Show those papers……then we’ll talk.

Did Obama said his first correct statement of his career as president today? Finally one thing, the first that I can agree with him?

He asked people to look for opportunities within our present state of affairs.

I say he must have hired a new speechwriter. That’s what I say. I hope so.

Congratulations to Obama. I’ll be the first one to praise one lousy little positive change. Lets pray million more right statements follow that one. Maybe God was moved by mercy.

  • Mack The Knife

I spent most of lunch looking at Tom Daschle’s wife, Linda, who was sitting at a near by table. She’s an attractive lady.

    Larry Johnson, Grand Feminist Extraordinaire!

Seriously, if an Obama supporter wrote a similar statement about Hillary, or any of your other female heroes, this board would go insane.

One other thing is happening–very few lobbyists are willing to take spots in the Obama administration.

Doesn’t this have it backwards? Very few lobbyists are being recruited and hired by the Obama administration.

There is an irony here. The lack of experience by these people will ultimately hurt the Obama presidency. His seemingly noble efforts to exclude lobbyists to improve government and reduce corruption actually is having the opposite effect. Unreal.

Aren’t these lobbyists the ones you just told us want to “Fuck Your Grand Kids”? Why should Obama be hiring more of those scumbags?

  • The Real HC

On behalf of all feminists I say its OK to look at attractive women. Just dont be creepy about it.

  • Miss H

Where are any of Obama’s real documents? All sealed up, so you can’t see them. He is not a natural born citizen. While you and your kids were playing baseball and soccer; joining Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts, Obama was in Indonesia praying the Quran and participating in Indonesian activities. He didn’t grow up listening to rock and roll and going to the local Dairy Queen for a soda. His mother was a Socialist. Who knows who the real father is, we have no documentation. Kenya calls him their native son. He advised and participated in the election campaign of Kenyan Raila Odinga, the Socialist who advocated the establishment of Islamic shariah law. Is Obama a “natural citizen of the USA”? I don’t think so by any legal or common sense definition. Come on you “fraidy cat” Obama, show us who you really are!

    Re-read the article.

  • Ferd Berfle

Reading comprehension and staying on topic aren’t exactly strong suits for Oblahblahbots.

  • Mack The Knife

Remember Larry’s classy article about how “at a certain time of the month, women stink.”

Yeah, he’s got monster cred on women’s issues, Mr. Johnson. This is your hero, what a sexist joke.

  • Miss H

Remember we are all socialists now. Socialists don’t care if the stock market folds up shop. Remember we are not working because we love our jobs and are trying to provide for our families and offspring. We are working for the glory of the state. Our money earned thru our toil and labor will be seized thru taxes and given to others who don’t work. Remember we are all socialists now and should be glad that our labor supports the Obama’s lavish life style. Remember there is no more free market capitalism. You work for the good of the state; your work and money will be re-distributed. Sometime soon in the future there will cease to be a stock market. There is no stock market in Cuba. Obama will be delighted if the stock market fails. Then Social Security, Medicare, veterans health care and all aspects of business will be under his personal control. Nothing will come to you except thru the generousity of the despot. Look up how much Obama and Biden have given to charity. That’s what you have to look forward to. There is no more middle class, just rich goverment rulers, their minnions, and you the carefully engineered and snookered poor.

  • NoBamaNoWay

the “proof” is that obama has failed to show his original BC. so right now, there is is no evidence that he is qualified to hold the office of POTUS.

when a person applies for any job requiring certain qualifications, they don’t tell the employer “Prove that i DON’T have the qualifications,” for christ’s sake. they must show the documentation.

    What the lobbyists are saying?

“You’re a bunch of fucking morons, and we’re going to rape you blind.”

    Paying for Policy in Washington
    Wall Street’s Best Investment
    By ROBERT WEISSMAN

“The entire financial sector (finance, insurance, real estate) drowned political candidates in campaign contributions, spending more than $1.7 billion in federal elections from 1998-2008. Primarily reflecting the balance of power over the decade, about 55 percent went to Republicans and 45 percent to Democrats. Democrats took just more than half of the financial sector’s 2008 election cycle contributions.

The industry spent even more — topping $3.4 billion — on officially registered lobbyists during the same period. This total certainly underestimates by a considerable amount what the industry spent to influence policymaking. U.S. reporting rules require that lobby firms and individual lobbyists disclose how much they have been paid for lobbying activity, but lobbying activity is defined to include direct contacts with key government officials, or work in preparation for meeting with key government officials. Public relations efforts and various kinds of indirect lobbying are not covered by the reporting rules.

    During the decade-long period:

    * Commercial banks spent more than $154 million on campaign contributions, while investing $383 million in officially registered lobbying;

    * Accounting firms spent $81 million on campaign contributions and $122 million on lobbying;

    * Insurance companies donated more than $220 million and spent more than $1.1 billion on lobbying; and

    * Securities firms invested more than $512 million in campaign contributions, and an additional nearly $600 million in lobbying. Hedge funds, a subcategory of the securities industry, spent $34 million on campaign contributions (about half in the 2008 election cycle); and $20 million on lobbying. Private equity firms, also a subcategory of the securities industry, contributed $58 million to federal candidates and spent $43 million on lobbying.

Individual firms spent tens of millions of dollars each. During the decade-long period:

    * Goldman Sachs spent more than $46 million on political influence buying;

    * Merrill Lynch threw more than $68 million at politicians;

    * Citigroup spent more than $108 million;

    * Bank of America devoted more than $39 million;

    * JPMorgan Chase invested more than $65 million; and

    * Accounting giants Deloitte & Touche, Ernst & Young, KPMG and Pricewaterhouse spent, respectively, $32 million, $37 million, $27 million and $55 million.

The number of people working to advance the financial sector’s political objectives is startling. In 2007, the financial sector employed a staggering 2,996 separate lobbyists to influence federal policy making, more than five for each Member of Congress. This figure only counts officially registered lobbyists. That means it does not count those who offered “strategic advice” or helped mount policy-related PR campaigns for financial sector companies. The figure counts those lobbying at the federal level; it does not take into account lobbyists at state houses across the country. To be clear, the 2,996 figure represents the number of separate individuals employed by the financial sector as lobbyists in 2007. We did not double count individuals who lobby for more than one company the total number of financial sector lobby hires in 2007 was a whopping 6,738.

A great many of those lobbyists entered and exited through the revolving door connecting the lobbying world with government. Surveying only 20 leading firms in the financial sector (none from the insurance industry or real estate), we found that 142 industry lobbyists during the period 19982008 had formerly worked as “covered officials” in the government. “Covered officials” are top officials in the executive branch (most political appointees, from members of the cabinet to directors of bureaus embedded in agencies), Members of Congress, and congressional staff.

Nothing evidences the revolving door — or Wall Street’s direct influence over policymaking — more than the stream of Goldman Sachs expatriates who left the Wall Street goliath, spun through the revolving door, and emerged to hold top regulatory positions. Topping the list, of course, are former Treasury Secretaries Robert Rubin and Henry Paulson, both of whom had served as chair of Goldman Sachs before entering government. Goldman continues to be well represented in government, with among others, Gary Gensler, President Obama’s pick to chair the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and Mark Patterson, a former Goldman lobbyist now serving as chief of staff to Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner.

All of this awesome influence buying has enabled Wall Street to establish the framework for debates in Washington, and to obtain very specific deregulatory actions, with devastating consequences.”

I THINK THAT IT IS ONLY THE FACT THAT HE IS A “NATURAL BORN CITIZEN”…PURE AND SIMPLE.
AFTER READING ABOUT HIS MENTOR, FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS….AND HOMOSEXUAL ACTS, SINCE DAVIS LOVED ANY KIND OF SEX AND ESPECIALLY YOUNG BOYS….AS EMBARRASING AS THIS SOUNDS, THE REASON FOR THE SECRET MEETING BETWEEN THE MEMBERS OF THE SUPREME COURT IN SECLUSION WAS THAT IF OBAMA WAS THE CHILD OF DAVIS, WHO WAS BORN IN KANSAS, THEN OBAMA WOULD BE A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN, BUT HIGHLY EMBARRASSED.
THIS MAY BE WHY THE SUPREMES ARE NOT ALLOWING ANY CASES TO BE ALLOWED, BECAUSE THEY KNOW HE IS NATURAL BORN,BUT BY DENYING ALL TO PROTECT OBAMA FROM TOTAL AND EXTREME EMBARASSMENT.
YOU SHOULD READ FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS ON GOOGLE AND THEN JUDGE FOR YOUR SELF.
THIS MAY EXPLAIN THE REST OF THE STORY.

YOUR STATEMENT MAY BE CORRECT, ONLY AND I REPEAT ONLY IF THE KENYAN OBAMA SR WAS HIS FATHER, BUT WHAT IF HIS FATHER WAS AN AMERICAN CITIZEN, READ ON GOOGLE ABOUT “FRANK MARSHALL DAVIS” , WHO WAS BORN IN KANSAS, SAME PLACE AS OBAMAS MOM.

READ “GOOGLE” BEFORE BUYING IN TO THE STORY OF OBAMA BEING THE KENYAN’S SON, THEN DRAW YOU OWN CONCLUSIONS.
