“Won’t Get Fooled Again”

This song by The Who is not just the theme song for the television series “CSI”; or one of the greatest songs in music history. This song is the anthem of the 2008 Presidential Race.

The chorus of “Won’t Get Fooled Again” goes as follows:

“I’ll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again”.

Will America be fooled again? Will the infamous words of George W. Bush: “I am uniter, not a divider” fool us again but this time from the self-professed “uniter” Barack Obama?

This week we learned that Barack Obama told an audience in Ohio that he would consider scrapping NAFTA if necessary as President of the United States. However, we learned that a month before the debate, his campaign contacted the Canadian Government to assure them not to worry because “the words are just rhetoric”. This reveals that he plans to keep the peace by lying to both sides. The only way this unites Canada and America is by sharing the commonality of both being lied to.

Senator Obama maintains that he was always against the Iraq War. Is he oblivious to the documented comments of him praising George W. Bush on the efforts in 2004? Does he really expect the people to believe that he would not have gone with the grain had he actually had a role of responsibility in the months after the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks? Would he have used the excuse “I pressed the wrong button” when called to task for his discrepancies? Or would he have voted “present” and never committed himself to anything – much the same way he has over a hundred times, thereby leaving himself free to adjust his response to the most popular opinion.

The Obama campaign is claiming that he has the judgment of a president. Which one? More importantly, I might have great judgment when it comes to baseball. However, I would never consider applying for a job coaching the New York Yankees or any other professional baseball team. My experience playing baseball is limited to local recreational leagues. To my credit, I have one hell of a throwing arm. However, this would hardly qualify me to even consider applying.

However, a lack of qualifications has not stopped Barack Obama. He has next to no experience handling roles of major responsibility in government. He should stick to his own gut instinct from 2004 when he answered a reporter who asked him if he would be on the 2008 Presidential ticket: “I don’t have enough experience”.

How safe will America be with Barack Hussein Obama at the helm? How soundly will Americans sleep knowing that Barack Obama will be answering the phone at 3:00am? Will he push the wrong button? Will he continue to lose important documents because of his self confessed inability to keep track of papers? Will he neglect important responsibilities in the same way he has ignored Afghanistan as Chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations?

Will Americans be satisfied with his answer should another Al Qaeda attack occur? “I was busy running for the Presidency”. “Good judgment” means nothing without the ability to stay organized and to multi-task. Good judgment also means nothing without the experience to support it.

Might the difference between “lying to the people” and “uniting the people” be as trivial as “denounce” and “reject” in this ambitious hypocrites mind? Might the difference between voting “for” and voting “present” be one of the same to Barack Obama? When he tells government leaders of major foreign countries to “not worry” because his words are just ‘political rhetoric”, what other lies is he telling the millions of people who send him money to propagate his mirage?

Americans, if you find yourself humming to the catchy tunes of the Obama campaign, stop for a minute and listen to the words. Then, go one step further and learn what the words, or “rhetoric”, really mean. The song sounds really good but the words don’t make any sense. Unlike “Won’t Get Fooled Again”.

Hopefully millions of Obama supporters will stop merely humming along and realize that they are being fooled again. Because, if Barack Obama becomes the next President of the United States, the final line in The Who’s anthem will hold true: “Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss”.

  • Dave Dial

    Dispicable..as usual.

Rush wants to give you all at NoQuarter, and the Hillary campaign, a big thanks for doing their dirty work for them.

    • Percy

Dave Dial….if you spell despicable correctly and then look up the definition, you will see that you have selected the wrong word.

      The article is TRUE….

What part of the truth are you having a hard time with?

Which part of the article is hard for you to follow or find not to be truthful?

    • chris

that is “despicable” from the Latin despicari, to despise.

      But what does that matter.

Dave Dial…you represent the unthinking right now, and they do need representation too.
It is pathetic that you so cannot tolerate counter views to your own that you resort to the same tactic as the Bushies, either for us er ganst us.

You are a demagogue now, and you aren’t different than the Dittoheads. You are a great Dittohead.

How exactly is your comment a shining example of “the end of the polics of destruction”?
When you can win me over in evidence, facts, and proper debate, label me, and my friends here with incendiary attacks.

And, when you send a link to “ruralvotes”…did you even read the comments below? Those people didn’t fall for Rush’s crap, BUT YOU DID!

So, which is it, is Rush now suddenly credible when it suits you?
Your ilk have claimed that Hillary’s followers are using Republican Talking Points…but look at you. You are using them.

Come on boy, getcha thinking cap on.
Are you so stupid that Coulter can fool you into voting against? how smart she was to see your lemming behavior… I can hear it now:
“OH MY GAWD, ANN COULTER IS GOING TO VOTE FOR HILLARY”
Don’t bet your ass on that.
Don’t be so stupid. And quit shaming your candidate with this filth. You really diminish his message of “the end of politics of destruction” with this vile crap.

GO on, Lob another bomb at me, you fucking peacenik
      Sincerely, with love,
      From Houston…
      C

PS. Obama’s campaign would like you to stop bashing Hillary supporters. They told me so themselves…today, yesterday, thursday, wednesday, tuesday, monday, sunday…..(don’t make me publish the calls here to show you. they disavow your tactic as destructive and regrettable)

      • Samantha

Oh Shit! I thought Dial was talking about the rock group Rush. Isn’t Taters or someone in a band?

For the love of God, don’t tell anyone Barack Obama’s middle name or show that photo he had taken in Africa. Loose lips sink ships you know!

    • Simon

Rush wants to give you all at NoQuarter, and the Hillary campaign, a big thanks for doing their dirty work for them.

      Oh, look a foo moose.

      You’re illiterate.

  • scoutt

    Hi Dave,
So is this how you guys “persuade” folks to join your unity tribe?
You call them ‘dispicable’. Good luck with that nifty hate filled movement.
You guys seem to have a hard time with that ‘greater good’ concept when you get outside of your Obama bubble and into the real world of disagreement.
Oh, and Michelle wants you to go get a service job with low pay for
    the “greater good”.

    • yttik

I’m not feeling that unity and togetherness vibe. Y’all aren’t really winning me over with all this name calling.

It’s pretty ironic to be tossed into the rubbish pile with the likes of Rush, Rove and Coulter. So what are we calling this, the vast Right and Left conspiracy against Obama?

This sure is an interesting strategy for the Democrats. Let’s insult the Clinton presidency, label one of our own Senator’s corrupt and evil, and then we’ll ostracize half our party. Meanwhile we’ll disparage the word liberal and praise Reagan.

Hmmmmm, I sure hope you guys got something up your sleeve that I’m just not seeing.

    “Will America be fooled again?”

    Re: quagmire.
    We were fooled again.

    Then they reelected Bush.

Maybe Dave needs to find out who the Republican machine is really pushing in this election season!

I bet Dave is one of those Obama supporters who cannot name a single accomplishment Obama has actually made….lol

  • Andy

AWESOME DR. CAROLYN: THANK YOU. Sorry Dave Dial and other Obama supporters for pointing out the truth. Republicans already have all the dirt (and more than we actually know) on Obama !!! Gosh you *are* naive… They, the Rep. don’t need anyone. They can do their job alone. It is you Obama supporters who are underestimating the war they will wage in November. And if the Dems.lose; well, that will be on *your* shoulders.

  • timeisart

This is my first time on this site. I have heard the term “no quarter” bandied about for years, but apparently no one really knows it’s history. Actually, the age of sail saw the introduction of the term when a victorious sea captain would either offer living quarters to the vanquished captain, or he would not offer quarters.

“Sir, I offer you no quarters,” the victor might announce, thus dooming the vanquished to go down with his ship.

So what did you think it was? A reply to a homeless person? I offer you no quarter? It’s quarters, not quarter.

    • Taters

Timeisart – Any links? There are many examples, here’s one. Larry’s got some serious credentials would you care to state yours?

The Ordinance of no quarter to the Irish[1] was a decree[2] of the English Long Parliament passed on 24 October 1644 in response to the Irish Confederation of Kilkenny threat to send troops from Ireland to support King Charles I during the English Civil War that ordered Parliamentary officers to give no quarter to Irish soldiers fighting in England and Wales, and Irish Confederate sailors at sea.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordinance_of_no_quarter_to_the_Irish

      Other examples –

A victor gives no quarter when the victor shows no clemency or mercy and refuses to spare the life in return for the surrender at discretion (unconditional surrender) of a vanquished opponent.[1]

Under the laws of war “… it is especially forbidden … to declare that no quarter will be given”. This was established under the Article 23 of the IV Convention – The Laws and Customs of War on Land of the Hague Conventions of 1907.[2]

There’s quite a few more, including the from the Battle of the Alamo and I’m going to assume you’re not a Texan.

El Degüello is a bugle call of Moorish origin notable in its use by the Mexican Army during the 1836 Battle of the Alamo. According to James A. Michener’s book Texas, the original meaning of the Degüello call was an appeal to an enemy to surrender or else they would die by the sword. General Antonio López de Santa Anna of the Mexican Army used it to signify that no quarter would be given to the enemy.

According to various English-Spanish dictionaries, El Degüello means no mercy. The literal translation is slit-throat. Michener’s book translates it as The Beheading.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Deg%C3%BCello

No quarter given or no quarter asked. To show no mercy.
      http://www.usingenglish.com/reference/idioms/no+quarter.html

    • chris

oh go insult yourself, I now what NoQuarter means. You presume because YOU didn’t know, that I must not have known. This is called Projection.

And to elaborate on your great revelation, No Quarter wasn’t simpy about “the age of sail” it dates back much farther. The term was used in land warfare when prisoners were captured, some leaders would issue an edict that “no quarter will be given” because food and shelter would be reserved for friendly troops.

Yes, effectively meant the enemy would be slain.

      http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/lawofwar/hague04.htm#art23
      The Hague Convention
In addition to the prohibitions provided by special Conventions, it is especially forbidden – ….
      To declare that no quarter will be given;

But…since this isn’t war…its discussion…what do you think No Quarter means here?
I have come to realize here it means:
      No Quarter for Bullshit.
There will be No Quarter given for Illusion.
There will be No Quarter given for Spin.
There will be No Quarter given for Empty Attacks not Based on Facts.

There are a very few people who have come here and given credible criticism of Hillary Clinton, Larry’s take on the world, Susan’s take on the world or others, and they weren’t treated with “No Quarter”. They were responded to, and I have even seen LJ and others acknowledge differences with consideration and even change in their comments.

But, do you give Quarters to counter views that conflict with your own?
Where is your tolerance for a different view?
Did you give Quarter when you decided to come here and assume the role of Teacher over people who didn’t ask?

Might want to examine yourself before lecturing me or others about what we don’t understand. I am so impressed with your delivery that I will turn on a dime today. Halleluyah Praise Obama!

Just wait. There’ll be cold steel for the crowd, no quarter and the amphitheatre will end up looking like a slaughterhouse. There’s even a girl who fights from a chariot.”

Here is a bit of thread conversation I had with a “believer” on BTD.
This is what they believe. I swear to god. I had a very similar “let me witness to you” experience with a neighbor that is usually very rational and fair minded.
Everytime I countered with my own argument his response was “You’re spinning” or, “You’re not being dispassionate”. It was fr*ckin’ weird.
Anyway, below is thread. Be afraid folks.

    FROM Obama person:
Obama believes in reaching out and talking to people who do not yet
accept our perspective. The goal being to use his persuasive powers to
enlarge our coalition by persauding people to join it. This is the basis
for his poltical identily since the day he entered politics. And yet you
seem to still not be able to wrap your mind around it.

    FROM ME:
I keep hearing that’s how he’s going to create change.
Sounds like pure fluffy mind mush to me. “use his persuasive powers”…
Please give me an example with steps outlining how he is going to get a
piece of legislation passed with a pep rally. Name the issue and
describe the progression from resistance to support to successful
    legislation.

    FROM obama person:
you don’t seem to get this democracy thing. You get people excited about
changing the status quo. You lay out, and yes he has, an agenda, and a
set of pinciples. You raise expectations to a fever pitch. You get
votes, you get votes for people who run with you, who think like you,
you put electoral pressure on those who oppose you, and when elected you
claim a mandate. And you stand in front of the crowd and denounce all
those pols who are standing in the way of doing what the crowd wants -
    what you have promised them.
That is what democracy is all about. And that is how you pressure the
Congress to think about things besides campaign contributions. No amount
of lobbyist dollars will save their hide when the popular president
comes to their district and calls them obstructionists.

    FROM ME:
    Nice. I don’t “get” democracy.
Again, I ask you for an example. You’ve got a theory now back it up with
a specific example. Or, name an example in history. Otherwise it just
sounds like college dorm room talk with a jug of bad wine.
Is he going to hug them until they agree?
Honestly, how is he going to persuade people that have a fundamentally
different ideology? The arguments have been made for decades. People ARE
easily convinced by having their lizard brains stimulated (Reagan and
his moral cover for racism) but making positive change ALWAYS takes a
fight. Name a single instance in history where those with power gave it
up because you had a coke with them. Does Obama have some new
argumentative jujitsu he’s gonna whip out? I haven’t heard it. I
absolutely do not understand what you’re buying into.
He’s gonna take on each district?
Wow. Amazing. He’s gonna go to 435 districts and persuade the
constituency, with all their varied interests, to then challenge their
elected leaders to follow the Obama plan and not take donations from
anyone that isn’t on board or …. i can’t even follow it.

    • yttik

LOL! I guess I just don’t get this “democracy thing” either. I guess Obama’s charm and charisma is going to so bedazzle everyone in congress that they jump on his bandwagon?

And of course, once everyone jumps on his bandwagon, where the heck is he going? He can’t seem to find a position he likes long enough to stick with it.

      • scoutt

That’s the weirdness on top of the weirdness. Where is going to persuade everyone to go? The neighbor i described above ADMITS he likes Hillary’s health plan more, ADMITS that she’s got more substance on issues, ADMITS that Obama is taking a CYA stance with the gay community but… Hillary will be too divisive to get anything accomplished.
And “why”, I ask, is she “divisive”? “She’s just not likable”. (we know where this is coming from…ye olde sexism hidden beneath words like “shrill”, “cackle”, “too ambitious” etc.). “And she’s got too much baggage…the Clinton’s brought a lot of that onto themselves”.
WOW. JUST, WOW. The betrayal is utterly Shakespearean.

        • Simon

          Sounds like Amway, doesn’t it?

Isn’t this how you sell Amway Corn Chips, too?

Break down the defenses of the mark to paying a lot of money for stale corn, so he too can belong to the cult?

Seriously, Amway is related to Eric Prince, of Blackwater.

Ever been to one of those meetings, I’ve had normal rational friends, those highly educated, come back and try to sell me Amway floor cleaner.

I get better, and cheaper stuff, at Target.

          • Fred C. Dobbs

            >>> Sounds like Amway, doesn’t it?

Sounds a lot more like, “The Wave.”

            • yttik

You mean the book, “The Wave”? Absolutely. Anyone who has forgotten the story should check out the book or the movie. It’s startling how much it parallels what’s going on today.

Well done, Dr. Carolyn. I love the song.
Lately, the song “Big Time” by Peter Gabriel has made me think of Sen. Obama – and his wife.

    • TeakWoodKite

      Taters: “Big Time”;Great bass lines…

I have had Obama’s theme song as “Cosmik Debris”

I’ve got troubles of my own, I said
An’ you can’t help me out
So take your meditations an’ your preparations
An’ ram it up yer snout
“BUT I GOT A KRISTL BOL!,” he said (Obama)
An’ held it to the light
      So I snatched it
      All away from him
An’ I showed him how to do it right
I wrapped a newspaper ’round my head
So I’d look like I was Deep
I said some Mumbo Jumbos then
An’ told him he was goin’ to sleep
      I robbed his rings
      An’ pocket watch
      An’ everything else I found
      I had that sucker hypnotized
He couldn’t even make a sound
I proceeded to tell him his future then
As long as he was hanging around,
      I said
“The price of meat has just gone up
An’ yer ol’ lady has just gone down . . . ”
      Look here brother,
Who you jivin’ with that Cosmik Debris?
(Now is that a real poncho or is that a Sears poncho?)
      Don’t you know,
You could make more money as a butcher,
So don’t you waste your time on me

      • Taters

        Awright TeakWoodKite!

Clinton supporters being called divisive by Obama supporters is, to borrow a phrase, like being called ugly by a frog.

    • chris

      rofl.
      Exactly.
At least a staffer at Obama’s campaign agreed with me on this. I’ve been warning them…screw Tuesday, you still got November to worry about bro. Do you really expect me to vote for Obama with the people he’s attracting attacking me for my support of a different candidate?

  • Samantha

    jwrjr –

I like frogs and love toads.

You’re right. It’s about picking sides. Politics are divisive by nature.

Even if Barack Obama doesn’t believe in Senate oversight, people shouldn’t blindly trust their government.

It’s basic – like never letting the same person who takes in money account for it.

  • ybnormal

The campaign song I find a curious choice as the #1 played at Obama’s speeches. “Signed Sealed Delivered”.

The general theme is a guy who took his girl for granted, wrongfully ignored her, and now wants her back, basically on his word.

Even more interesting are three phrases near the end:
Ive done alot of foolish things
    That I really didnt mean
I could be a broken man but here I am

How is this supposed to encourage my vote? Someone please explain.

    • Taters

You did make me smile, yb.

  • Taters

Stevie Wonder is a supporter of Barack. I still love him, he gets a pass from me. It’s a great tune, and it was a great tune before Obama. Perhaps I’m biased – I’m a Detroiter and we’re kinda partial to Motown. Hell, I’d rather hear that than the friggin’ corny ass Black – Eyed Peas, anyday.

    • ybnormal

I agree, it’s a wonderful song. Not only because of Stevie, but also one of the outstanding examples of electric bass by one of the greats of all time, James Jamerson.

  • Fred C. Dobbs

“And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong.
They decide and the shotgun sings the song.”

I am amazed that anyone is fooled by a right-wing Republican war criminal like Hillary Clinton. The Clintons and the Bushes are the same thing. People need to wake up and see that we have two corrupt political families trying to turn America into a monarchy.

    • BernieO

Yeah that is why the Clintons are respected around the world – because they don’t believe in democracy. Just ask the people of Northern Ireland about how evil the Clintons were to play such a pivotal role in their peace process. I have heard Irish government officials talk about how critical the involvement of Bill was and how helpful Hillary was, also. Sure don’t want more of that kind of thing.

I recall during the Illinois campaign Michelle Obama stating towards Hillary “if you can’t keep your own home in order, how can you keep the Whitehouse in order?”

Using Michelle’s own words, If you can’t manage to acquire your own family’s home except by “boneheaded mistakes” and by calling in the aide of corrupt individuals, then how can you manage the Whitehouse on anything but “boneheaded mistakes” and by calling in the aide of corrupt individuals?

    • Fred C. Dobbs

One can only wonder when Winnie…er, Michelle starts talking about, “…boxes of matches and necklaces…”
