ObamaBots Anonymous

I think it’s time to start preparing to ease the Obamabots back into the real world. The signs are starting to appear here and there, like signs of Spring.

Living, as I do, in The People’s Republic of Portland (Hawthorne Soviet, Richmond Collective) I’ve been in the thick of Obamabot zombieland. During the primaries there were forests of Obama signs strewn about the landscape, houses with three and four signs in the windows, on the lawn, big banners hung across the porch railing. One guy built a lawn housing for his Obama sign, complete with turned columns and a broken pediment on the top, indicating that he intended his sign to last for generations. Shop windows on Hawthorne Blvd. were plastered with Obama signs both before and after the election (“Yes, We Did!”) coffeehouses and taverns held weekly Obama parties – some still do – and there were hordes of Obama canvassers swarming every street corner, I was accosted by six of them in one ten block stretch in the run up to the election.

All last year and well into February of this year, you rarely had a conversation without one or two Obamabots bursting into an impromptu praise-a-thon.

I think that things are beginning to change here on the Left Coast. We’ve had a, relatively, hard winter – snow on the valley floor several times, once it stuck for more than a week.

A short word here about Portlanders: I like them a lot, I like their weird ways, their optimistic self-reliance, their fundamental courtesy, but you’d think that folks who spend so much time in the rain would know how to drive in it – and snow! They see snowflakes come down and just hafta rush out to drive the old beater with the bald tires to see how many 360′s they can do down the hill on their way to the I-5 where they can spin out in front of a oncoming semi. I swear there’s a secret prize waiting for the first person to completely block the highway.

Back to the Bots: the signs are far fewer now, one by one they’re disappearing, usually in the middle of the night, the cars are showing bumpersticker scraper stigmata, the eager young canvassers are now back to self-righteously assuming you care nothing about starving children or dying whales or evaporating boreal forests. No one advertises Obama block parties in the community newpapers. The “Yes, We Did!” signs have vanished, their spaces sometimes replaced with “Quitting Business” signs. The street buskers are more numerous, they now have turf scuffles with the old familiar beggars who believe they have squatters rights to prime territory, the corner by the bank, the service doorway of the supermarket…

Late winter reflection time, the gray days when you look in the nirror a lot. I think the Obots are poised at he edge of the abyss, so…

I’m proposing we set up a 12-step recovery group for them – someone’s got to do it, we can’t have them wnadering glassy-eyed about the landscape, arms outstretched, grasping blindly for another hit of the “O-juice”.

First: what to call it? OA is taken, I believe, (Overeaters Anonymous) so I’m proposing OBA (pronounced: obey) for ObamaBots Anonymous.

The ObamaBots Anonymous 12-step Recovery Program:

Step 1 – We admit we are powerless over our Obama addiction – that our lives have become unmanageable and that we are prone to hissy fits and screaming “I don’t understand!” at inappropriate moments.

Step 2 – We have come to believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity but that this Power is NOT Obama.

Step 3 – We have made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of Obama as we understood Him – no, wait, we already did that… we mean we have decided that we will NOT turn our every waking thought over to Obama.

Step 4 – We have made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. We have looked into the mirror and said ”I am a moron who has thrown his/her rational thought processes out the window in favor of mindless adulation of a socipathic, narcississtic sock-puppet.”

Step 5 – We admit to the world, to ourselves and to another human being – preferably someone who told us we were idiots to support Obama – the exact nature of our wrongs: see Step 4.

Step 6 – We’re entirely ready to have a frying pan to the side of the head or a dentist with a high-speed drill or a construction worker with a jackhammer, remove all these defects of character depending on just how dumb we were.

Step 7 – We have humbly asked if there’s some kind of capable Power which can remove our shortcomings and return our brains.

Step 8 – We’ve made a list of all persons we have harmed, and are willing to make amends to them all: you know who we are and we know you know – we prefer cash, please.

Step 9 – We have made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others – you don’t get to make these kinds of judgment calls anymore, the evidence shows you’re spectacularly bad at it – pay up.

Step 10 – We continue to take personal inventory and when we are wrong promptly admit it. …we’re waiting…

Step 11 – We seek, through prayer and adoration to improve our conscious contact with Obama as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of Obama’s will for us and the power to carry out His will… NO, NO, NO! Stop trying to get O’s Blackberry address, put down the tripleshot, soy chai latte and remember Steps 1-10… Jeez! Get a grip willya!

Step 12 – Having had a rational thought process re-awakening as the result of these steps, we will carry this message to other Obamabots, and attempt to de-program these poor fools and bring them back to reality.

I think that a whole-hearted embrace of these steps by recovering Obamabots will go a long way toward re-integrating them into the real world again. Of couse they’ll probably have to go to OBA meetings for a long, long time and we should be as gentle as possible with them, don’t shock them by pointing out things like: all O’s ‘ideas’ are stolen in part or as a whole from others (like Hillary) who actually had thought about how to implement their plans. This kind of shock may be too much for OBAs, cases have been known where they go directly into CDS and may require hospitalization.

Remember, they were thinking humans once, with time and care they may become so again – they can Change and there’s always Hope.

  • Ferd Berfle

This is just too funny. Kudos to you, Craig.

  • Ferd Berfle

In one of those steps needs to be disengagement from the bot collective and that trite “Yes We Can” foolishness.

  • bluelady

Oh My God! This is priceless………..
thanks so much for the belly laughs you just gave me.

  • Lyn

    13. I promise to never vote again, since I realize I am not responsible enough to handle that, and screwed it up for the rest of the Country who actually looked at the candidates records and past- instead of just listening to the pretty words, hope, change and unicorns.

  • MBC

This is so great Craig, I so much want to send it to my relatives who voted OBOBO. However, because one of them was laid off from his 200K a year marketing job and the other is wringing her hands trying to figure out on how to live on her reduced investments, can’t sell her home in FL to get out from under the escalating insurance costs, taxes, and utility bills, I will be nice and just hang onto it for a little while.

  • jmm

OT, but just a little. I just heard Claire McCaskill voted against the omnibus bill yesterday. I thought she was a huge BO supporter. Maybe the Kool-Aid is wearing off?

  • JustMe~~

There will be so many people soon but they will never admit the voted for “That One”

Could of been so different well let tham all eat crow or hoof or whatever!

    ~~@-@~~

  • Nobama4me

Anyone knows Claire MC’s address? This seems the right time to send her a : “We told you so…” signed “a Hillary voter”…lol

  • kj4hillary

Hi Craig – from a pdx PUMA. I recently got into a car accident and the one thing I asked the body shop to do was cut out my Hillary bumper sticker from my crumpled buper! They’d better deliver.

  • typical.white.person

Step 2 – We have come to believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity but that this Power is NOT NO LONGER Obama.

  • chris from Chicago

    I just love it…i love …i love it…

Its great that the kool aid is wearing off, and the Moonies are jumping off like rats off a sinking ship…but look at what we are stuck with?
    A feakin disaster…we have 4 more years minus 50 days…of this..

  • TeakwoodKite

Well done Craig. DO recovering OBots get a chip for BObriety?

    Very strong Kung Fu.

  • Wisewoman

thank you, thank you. I love this.

  • NewHampster

Great Post. I’ll print this out and see if my spousalBot will follow it. Then again I like living.

  • Donna Brazile

    Hey,

Whose on tap to entertain That One at the WH tonight?

    P is for party
A is for all night long
R is for real fine time
T is for tea and wine
Y is for why not now

    Party!!

    There’s a party over here!!!!!!!!!!!

    Stop the lovefest!

  • TeakwoodKite

    Even money New Hampster, eh?

  • socalannie

Or…if never voting again is too much, how about if they just promise to only vote once per election! (Unlike the bots @ my husbands work who admitted to him that they voted 2-3 times!)

  • socalannie

Hilarious post! Thanks Craig! I really needed that tonite! Especially loved the last line!

  • Clara Barton

Claire has to think about her constituents and what they’re telling her. Missouri can be fairly conservative, middle of the road.

LOL great! How very kind of you as well. I still prefer to watch them writhe a bit.

  • Docelder

I went to graduate school in St. Louis and though it’s been 25 years since I graduated… I don’t remember Missouri being anything like McCaskill was during this election cycle. As I recall, “Kaptain Koolaid” pretty much had her brain in a jar back in his evil lair. I remember thinking especially after we were seeing the election police incident in Missouri… What has happened to Missouri? Probably for the most part… nothing has happened to Missouri people. I always remember them being middle America good folk with common sense values mostly. I really liked my time there, not that I had a lot of free time. I am thinking that McCaskill is going to need to do some repair with the constituency… and that need will continue to grow as the country comes off the koolaid coma and go into hangover mode.

  • Nobama4me

Thanks Ani…will do at both addresses…lol

  • Nancy

Hi Craig — Great post. I’m a fellow Portlander (a native, actually — but have NEVER been an ObamaBot). I live a bit north of you.. near Grant High in Irvington. In my neighborhood, the signs have mostly come down.. but stickers are still on the cars. However, I have detected a change in spirit, and a lot of nervous tension.

  • Nancy

Oh — and I wanted to add — that I do know how to drive in the snow! Don’t label us all as bad snow drivers… I’ve been a Mt. Hood skier since I was eight.. so those bad drivers are likely not skiers/snowboarders… or are from California (most likely!)..

  • HARP

Hilarious post! I wonder if the pod people have any “chump change” left.

  • politicsisdirty

Great article. It is time for them to wake up and live a normal life.

    Back to reality!

  • J.J. (The PUMA)

Claire is still a true believer. She is just starting to run for cover. Missouri leans Republican, and the bloom may be off the Obama Rose by the time she seeks re-election.

  • mkm125

    Wonderful, wonderful!

  • Ellen D

As I remember, McCaskill just had to support Obama or her children would never speak to her again. I wonder if the people in Missouri knew they were electing her children, not her.

  • lauraks

Repair work??? Omg she is the most loathsome opportunist Missouri has ever seen. 1st she was Jackson County prosecutor(KC), then Auditor then she challenged Holden in the primary costing him the election then she moved onto senator.Using the Clintons, Cleaver anyone .Sound familiar?Though I live in KS now I will work to defeat her .She’s awful!!!

  • Ellen D

Hey! With so many Canucks living in California we darned well know how to drive in snow!

  • lauraks

Despite trying to buy a MO win McCain still squeaked by there. This was with the media reporting 24/7 about BO’s 100K rallies in St. Louis and 75K in KC. You know the kind like when he bussed in all his followers to IOWA for the caucus. What an absolute crock.

  • beachnan

Great article Craig. Lyn, I love number 13.

  • Kat5

Thank you so much for this – it’s terrific. Funny how all of us conscientious O-objecters not only had right on our side all along, we’ve had the wit, too. (They do say humor is a sign of intelligence…)

  • trixta

    That is, O’Chump Change.

  • MrMike

In my neck of the woods they have gone from worshiping at the alter of Obama to defending William Ayers who’s scheduled to speak at Millersville University.
They are still out there and as obnoxious as ever.

  • Lyn

Maybe one of those cheap Obama coins with the sticker pealing off?

  • Nobama4me

I hope her constituents send her packing…how misguided of her to endorse Bo instead of the competent woman and watching her behave like a school girl with a crush was embarassing, to say the least.

  • Cindy

Craig—i haven’t laughted this hard since Barack got whiplash reading his teleprompters. Thanks! As the Drill Sargent said to Forest Gump: ” You’re a g.d. genius!”
    I mean it! you’re a fantastic writer.

  • Touchet

    kinda like bush, lol.

  • http://theheraclitanfire.blogspot.com/ Craig Della Penna

Thank you all, I had fun with this one.

  • FranSC

Ellen, my sentiments precisely. I think the most disgusting thing I encountered this whole election cycle was that – public figures who openly bragged about their children bringing them into the ranks of the obamabots.

What an embarrassment that these well-known parents were being led by their children when they have constituencies that elect them to decide which laws are best for this country, yet looked to their children to give them leadership on who to support for president.

I believe they thought it made them ‘hip’, with it, modern-day, accepted by their children and their friends.

Clair McCaskill will NEVER be able to recapture my respect, my support, etc, even if she completely breaks with Obama. I will always remember her sinister contribution to elect the most unqualified man to ever run for the presidency while she turned her back on the women in our country as well as the MOST qualified woman we can ever hope to elect president. Just seeing her face come on tv sends me into a fit of profanity.

In fact, I hope this group can stay together for us to inform each other when traders like McCaskill has a primary opponent. I will be writing campaign checks to anyone running against Clair McCaskill, Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, and the list goes on and on. What disillusionment! What good o’le boys!

  • FranSC

I agree. McCaskill is simply trying to look independent and knows this bill is unpopular back home. In fact, those democrats not voting for it probably know they are in hot water with their voters and this is a ploy. All the defectors know the bill has enough votes to pass without them.

But, J.J., if the bloom is not off the rose by then, we will be doomed.

I predicted that the NEW money was in setting up Obamabot Rehab Centers.

    Now for names:

    Reality Horizons

    Forget Politics Hills

    Sucker Fool House

    Talk to the Hand Estates

    No Mas Koolaid Centre

    Anyone care to invest?

I hope McCaskill loses her seat. Ditto many others as well.
Funny article Craig. I live down I-5 from you with relatives in Portland. My city voted 70 percent That One. I hope they are also waking up but I see few signs of it.

  • bayareavoter

ha, ha–love it! thank you for the laugh.

I’m in Marin County in CA which voted about 80% for Obummer. Very similar to Portland without the Birkenstocks (go over to Berkeley for those folks).

I am starting to see signs of reality hitting–
when I say that Obummer needs to wean himself from his teleprompter and stop campaigning and get back to the WH to do some WORK people are beginning to agree.

  • sandi78

Drive in the snow? Good grief, down here in So Cal we don’t even know how to drive in the rain!

  • Cindy

    Classy!Seriously, that’d make a great poster.

  • no kidding

Its interesting to see the Fat Cat investors come out one by one to trash Obama. They naively thought he was a moderate. Dear God and I thought people with big bucks has sense.

  • no kidding

bayareavoter — Instead of using a teleprompter at his Press Conferences Obama will have a computer screen installed in his podium so someone can feed him the answers from the back room. Once Obama had 30% more positives then negatives. Now there is only a 6 point difference. When the positives and negatives converge — the flop sweat will cover Obama’s face and he will become an instant Republican.

  • Grace

Actually, Barbara Boxer stayed neutral until the time that Hillary dropped out and endorsed Obama back in June. I agree about Pelosi and the idiot McCaskill though.

  • Ani

Yes, that is true. But Boxer was awfully silent and couldn’t wait to jump ship to BO — I will not forgive her for that.

Feinstein was the only one who spoke up for Hillary and stuck with her till the end — even foregoing attendance to the Convention, with the excuse of a sprained ankle.

McCaskill is dreck. I will never forget her other absolutely idiotic statement that “Barack Obama is the first black leader who is not a victim” –

Gee, Rev. Martin Luther King would love to hear that one. He was NEVER a victim, even on the horrible day of his assassination. He stood tall and encouraged others to do the same. McCaskill is unforgiveable. Shame on her.

Months ago, I wrote a letter to her telling her so — she actually wrote a letter back to me filled with the most ridiculous koolaid sipping imaginable.

  • Ani

But Boxer couldn’t wait to jump ship to BO. She never spoke up for Hillary. This neutral b.s. is just that. Hillary is 10 times more qualified.

Feinstein stuck with Hillary till the end and did stand up and talk about the sexism.

And McCaskill should be ashamed. The other idiotic statement she made is that “Barack Obama is the first black leader who is not a victim”.

Oh really? Rev. Martin Luther King always stood tall and encouraged others to do the same. He was never a victim even on the horrible day of his assassination.

I wrote and told McCaskill that she should be ashamed of herself. She actually wrote me back with the most koolaid filled nonsense imaginable.

  • Ani

SM — that is hilarious. Well, it would be, if it weren’t so sad for the rest of us.

  • Ani

    Great job, Craig,

  • elise

May I add another one Craig?
13- I vow to do one good deed per day for a Hillary supporter and if I tell anyone, it doesn’t count.
Hope this becomes reality soon. If the support fades, so will Obama’s audacity and hope becomes reality. He might even take the job seriously.

  • ford

New Hampster..I too live with a Koolaide snorter..I am enjoying the looks I am getting now…wait til he sees our tax bill, and looks at our investments..payday!
We need to flip 7% of the people who voted for Obama.
7% is not that many, especially since Anchorman in Chief has been doing so much Orwellian doublespeak.
    7%

  • ford

    14. I will give up the lifestyle coaches that got me this addicted to Obama. Goodbye to Olbermann, Stewart, Carville, Begala, Brown, Amanpour, Mika, Brian Williams Eleanor Clift,etc.etc.etc., Time magazine, Newsweek,NYT,LAT, Chicago Tribune, Philadelphia Inquirer, every college debating team, Democratic party…Teacher’s Union, Teemster’s Union, etc etc. etc.

  • Obamastolemyboyfriend

    NewHampster,

What does wifebot think of Barrakula now?

  • GA Moderate

She is starting to face reality that “drinking the koolaid” may cost her the next election. I hope no woman will ever vote for her again.

  • Polly

I’m responding a little late to the above comments about Claire McCaskell as I am just catching up on events after digging out from a blizzard. My husband and I went to highschool with Claire in Columbia, Missouri. She was a ditzy, rah rah cheerleader then and I do not see much hope for any change in her behavior now. I also wrote her a letter, but she did not respond to me. We had a graduating class of 600 or thereabouts so she would not have recognized my name. I guess she didn’t have the time to bother with someone outside Obama land.

  • tarma

    Great post!
In my neighborhood the signs have come down, replaced by Obamawear: hats, shirts, sweatshirts…
I’m guessing that many citizens, who have never particularly paid attention or been in any way active politically, got caught up in the hopey-changey frenzy. Now that they’ve Made History, they’re free to return to the delicious oblivion of reality TV, challenging the more wakeful among us to increase our vigilence.
While I’m starting to hear some critical thinking, it’s generally prefaced by an oath of fealty to The One. I hear echoes of the primaries and believe that The O Team has done a great job of instilling fear in potential critics, vis a vis playing the race card.
Be compassionate with the OBOTS – they will engage in denial and blaming. They will accuse those close to them of not understanding. They will experience a profound sense of loneliness and isolation as they struggle to find a new place of belonging. They will be forced to confront deep loss and dissapointment as they begin to understand the utter emptiness of the object of their addiction. Recovery can be a long and painful process…

  • Sassy

    Very, very funny!
I was blessed not to be exposed to any bots in my life or neighborhood! Thanks is much too mild a word!
Regarding your step six, I have to tell an off topic story.
Just a couple of weeks ago, an intruder went into an older lady’s home. She met him at the kitchen door and rung his chimes several times with a heavy saucepan.
Foolish, yes, but the guy left faster than he came in! I gave her a big woo-hoo when she showed her moves on T.V.!

  • arabiandancer

Weather permitting, we just fly our “dont tread on me” flag from our northern california deck to the whole world. screw obots, i hope they suffer for their participation in electing that one.

  • susan h

Thank you Craig. My brother and familv live in Portland, OR. I have had many many conversations with them, trying to convince them the Chosen One was not who they thought he was, but to no avail. My sister – in law went ballistic on me at Thanksgiving dinner when I visited them last Nov., since I was definitely Anti-Obama and dared to defend Sarah Palin who was being unfairly trashed in the media (we are all life-long democrats). This must have been what the civil war was like in the U.S. in the 1860′s: families on both sides of the U.S., north and south divided them with ideologies that caused serious problems among family members. I keep still cautiously sending articles to them trying to get them to realize Obama is a fraud but so far nothing. I feel like someone in my family has to keep their wits and thank goodness I am doing this for all our sakes while so many have fallen asleep under the Kool-Aid. They still make excuses for him and probably will do so for a long while. If/when they awaken, Will I say I TOLD YOU SO? You betcha!!!

  • Helen

Thanks for your article. I needed the humor. wonderful

  • Peggy Sue

This was too, too funny, Craig. And God knows, we all need a good laugh. I predicted months ago that once the kool-aide ran out or wore off, even the Obamatrons would start blinking and gasping. I think by the sheer numbers, we’ll need to open numerous walk-in clinics. Until they’re completely detoxified.

Of course, for the hopeless cases, the ones who turned completely deaf and blind, there’s only one remedy: an isolation chamber where we read the long list of broken election promises, Rev. Wright’s sermons and Joe Biden’s favorite jokes, interspersed with rising unemployment figures and Obama’s deadening Saturday morning chats.

    Should be heaps of fun!

Thanks for the good laugh. I needed that.

  • RWR

I’m so glad you included the “I don’t understand!” line. It’s incredible that a group managed to make their failure to understand into a point of argument, and that they truly couldn’t distinguish ignorance from factual points of debate.

  • FLDemFem

Perhaps we can switch their mantra to “Just do it!!”. I think some sneaker company used that a few years back. It sure is applicable to Obummer. Heh.

  • catfish

OMG that is classic. Here it is, ABC News http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/03/mccaskill-obama.html

“What this man has done, Barack Obama, is, he, for the first time I think, as a black leader in America, has come to the American people not as a victim, but rather as a leader.”

  • Diana

Did she get a cabinet appointment? If not maybe she’s mad. She was the one defending him most the time, coming up with some real zingers toward Hillary and the other side. She was the Queen Obot. Obama doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of respect for those that were groveling at his feet during the primaries. Please take me with you oh great one…

  • PaulRevere

As an addiction counselor, I LOVE THIS POST!!!!! Thanks so much! Perfection!

PS I refer to the Obots with bumper stickers on their cars STILL as wearing the “Scarlett O.”
