The more I watch the New Democrats, the more I think they are creating a permanent welfare state in the U. S. The upper middle class will fund it. The lower and middle middle class have permanent tax cuts. Taxes can only increased on the upper middle class. Pretty soon, the productive class will work 24/7 and end up with the same amount of money as a waitress. All your money will be taken and given to people who don’t work and are probably criminals. It will make them feel equal. That’s Obama’s very words.

  • obamastolemyboyfriend

I don’t even like referring to Obama or the New Pelosi frauds as Democrats. Let’s just call them what they are…Socialists, Communists, something else? These are not the Democrats I once knew. Clinton Democrats are true democrats. I don’t know what the f!@# these wackos are!

If these are democrats, I will never be one again.

  • Georgia

    Amen Sister!

  • Docelder

If these are democrats, I will never be one again.

Just as I will never be republican again. I would agree the current party in control are socialists.

If the whole talk of getting rid of mortgage interest deductions goes through, I don’t see an end to the housing crisis.

There has never been a better time for a 3rd party than now!

  • huh

…untill everyone quits working. I asked my friend and I’ll ask you all. What is the treshhold of taxation where you just quit? When will it be better to collect welfare, live in public housing, and go off the grid? Do some math and get ready.

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years.

No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having
    cultivated such valuable lessons as:

    - Knowing when to come in out of the rain;
    - Why the early bird gets the worm;
    - Life isn’t always fair;
    - and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more
than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for
reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student; but could
not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, Truth and Trust, by his wife, Discretion, by his daughter, Responsibility, and by his son, Reason.

    He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers;
    I Know My Rights
    I Want It Now
    Someone Else Is To Blame
    I’m A Victim

And now we have selected a community organizer and his merry gang of retreads.

    GOD HELP US

Sometimes, all you can do is spread the word.

I write a weekly (non-political) column for a local newspaper. Today, I figured a way to parallel the shameless disrespect AIG and the White House show for our hard earned tax dollars and the fall of another Empire.

Included is a link to a petition that will be delivered to Congress this week, protesting the bailout and the way its being managed.

The are switching hats, and switching again in such rapid pace as to let your reason bewildered. The truth is we are in a Con-man’s festival.

    Talk about switching hats.

The so called ‘toxic assets’ that caused the melt down now are called ‘legacy assets,’ and they are going to be offered to the thieves to purchase and in top of that the thieves will be given the chance to agree between themselves as to what price they will pay for them.

Con-men leading a gang of 400. Not different from Ali Baba and the 40 thieves. Just like them, they have a secret hidden cave with an automatic door that opens at the sound of ‘open season (sic.).’

  • Steve_in_KC

I believe nearly everyone reading this blog would agree we are not represented by the two major parties, and I’m sure there are millions more who feel the same. However, I doubt most Centrist/Moderates would vote for Ron Paul.

John McCain would have been a good choice at one time to head such a party, but that train has left the station.

Hillary is loved by many of our compatriots, but she is a true-blue Democrat (old school), and I can only assume she hopes that her presence in a prominent position in this Socialist administration will give her and Bill some influence on it.

The history of attempts at establishing a third party in this country have been spotty and generally lackluster. We’d all love to have a third choice, but realistically, the chances of a third party winning a prominent election are slim for now, as it would require pulling at least 1/3 of the voters from each of the existing parties just to achieve parity.

Who would lead such a party? Who would invest the money needed to push it into a competitive position?

The Libertarian Party has been around a long time, and they’ve never gotten real traction, in part because so few people take them seriously. I fear that would also be the case for any new third party, unless there was an overwhelmingly popular candidate to lead the party into existence.

Are there any political heroes around who are not already bound by one of the two major parties? Not that I can think of.

Even if a third party candidate was elected president, would Congress back their platform? I suppose if they were centrist enough, it’s possible they would.

It seems we may be doomed, at least in our lifetimes, to the seesaw power-brokering of the wing nuts.

Wasn’t one of the main things TUCC wanted to accomplish (after caring First for Africa) was to abolish middle class?

  • Docelder

Palin could do it, in the style of Theodore Roosevelt’s “Bull Moose” party. No particular play on the word “moose” intended. If not, it will take someone like her. Somebody folksy and “real” to represent the middle majority of America who remain without effective political representation. Somebody though folksy, still with political acumen and a record of integrity. A public forum could be the base for it, as this “new party” will need to “out-Barack” Barack himself at his own “politics web 2.0″ game to have a chance. If it is to be the Internet is the perfect medium to make it happen.

  • lark

Palin may if she finds herself in the same situation that Hillary found herself. I have no doubt she would. But first the RP would have to show her the door by favoring less capable men over a real political matron/madonna.

  • lark

I believe a madonna like Palin will state her case by giving ‘the messiah’ a good spanking to teach him the manners he is lacking.

OMG, WHY, WHY does “W”B (aka Weary Barry) just seem like he is trying to perfect the original’s (“W”)governing?

W B (Weary Barry) is hitting the campaign trail, yearning for that cheering and misleading rhetoric to pass his crap on to us. This guy is putting the first W to shame.

Now Weary Barry is hitting the tv circuit again. Annoucing that Weary Barry is heading out to Cali to appear on Leno Wednesday. Gee, you think he might decide just to take his vacation out to Hawaii. He’ll be so close. Go for it Weary Barry, you obviously didn’t expect this level of “hard work” and are overwhelmed (the excuse given for dissing our long time friends and allies), even though you weren’t prioritizing the economy as you like to emptily claim. How’s those 13 out 14 job search in the Treasury going?

We cannot take 4 years of this crap from Weary Barry.

    Great Post and Comments!!

IT’S T-PARTY TIME; join your local T-Party (April 15th or thereabouts, Philadelphia is having one on April 18th).

Let’s stand up to the politicians in DC and let them know we have a voice!!! “Common Sense” may be dead in Washington DC but WE THE PEOPLE still have plenty of COMMON SENSE, RESPONSIBILITY AND REASON!! We also have a whole lot of COURAGE, FAITH in the USA and what this Country stands for AND FAITH in our fellow citizens to do the right thing and make the hard choices; and WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED!!!

We are Americans and our government will know the true WILL OF THE PEOPLE. Check out your local T-Party Protest and add your voice to the growing chorus of those who still have “COMMON SENSE” and “UNCOMMON VALOR” such as those in this video:
    “WE THE PEOPLE”
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzPmzfv5rJQ
With Trillions of Dollars being wasted by government officials who know nothing about good government and our Country’s future at stake
    WE(the people)MUST ACT NOW.

  • Docelder

the RP would have to show her the door

Yes, but I believe in effect that already happened to a degree when McCain left her to fend for herself. I think even the republicans are afraid of Palin and what she represents and what she may become. I think that is why she would be perfect for the third party.

What is the deal with Obama going on Jay Leno again, does he not know the campaign is over? What exactly is going on with these people its regular parties with conga lines, I understand Obama is going to the Caribbean in April to the island of Trinidad with Michelle.

The good times sure seems to be rolling in and we the American public sits back, take it all in while the media pulls our chain and tries to make us feel we should have no regrets.

Now, what a toon that would be.

Obama come out waiting for some cheers from the ever gracious Jay audience. He beams, takes a seat, they go to commercial break before any questions are asked and voila, a team come a rushing to set up a teleprompter in front of Weary Barry’s chair. He can breath now. Pre written words and responses.

But wait, what if Jay goes off script? Gibbs and Axelrod are standing by to scrub any video and throw Jay under the bus if he makes any waves, no problem.

That isn’t actually how progressive tax rates work. Increasing the upper-end rates doesn’t kill the incentive to earn more, because there isn’t a point where having earned more suddenly gives one a net loss on the additional income. It’s just a matter of the game getting a bit harder at increasingly high levels of play.

Here’s an astonishing idea: If increased revenues are needed to keep things running well–and who can deny that they aren’t?–it might be more just to raise taxes rates in accordance with a person’s ability to comfortably pay them.

  • Lyn

Ok the TUCC site, before it was scrubbed when TUCC was being looked at had this
We are a congregation which is Unashamedly Black and Unapologetically Christian… Our roots in the Black religious experience and tradition are deep, lasting and permanent. We are an African people, and remain “true to our native land,” the mother continent, the cradle of civilization. God has superintended our pilgrimage through the days of slavery, the days of segregation, and the long night of racism. It is God who gives us the strength and courage to continuously address injustice as a people, and as a congregation. We constantly affirm our trust in God through cultural expression of a Black worship service and ministries which address the Black Community.
Trinity United Church of Christ adopted the Black Value System written by the Manford Byrd Recognition Committee chaired by Vallmer Jordan in 1981. We believe in the following 12 precepts and covenantal statements. These Black Ethics must be taught and exemplified in homes, churches, nurseries and schools, wherever Blacks are gathered. They must reflect on the following concepts:

    Commitment to God
    Commitment to the Black Community
    Commitment to the Black Family
Dedication to the Pursuit of Education
Dedication to the Pursuit of Excellence
Adherence to the Black Work Ethic
    Commitment to Self-Discipline and Self-Respect
Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”
Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community
Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting Black Institutions
Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System
Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System.

    http://web.archive.org/web/20061231183234/http://www.tucc.org/about.htm
SO WHAT exactly does Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness” mean? And are we seeing the beginning of it?

Keep it up BO. It’s getting harder and harder for Eugene Robinson to defend you to Joe Scarborough.

Hi Linda. Thanks for the cartoons. Whether it’s magical hats, magical chairs or the old but reliable shell game, the Democratic Party is practicing its newly spiffed up sleight of hand.

Don’t trust your lying eyes or ears they tell us. The economy is an on-going crises, a near catastrophe. Then, it’s not as bad as we thought and recovery is right around the corner. And those taxes on health care benefits? Well, maybe they’re not such a bad idea. And the fundamentals of the economy are good! They’re good now with the stock market at 7000, but they were bad, incredibly bad when McCain used the same language. And the market was around 11,000 then.

But rock the voters with nonsense and smiles and promises. Because no one’s paying attention, right?

    Wrong. Dead wrong.

And now we find out that those “shovel ready” projects must be renegotiated at union level salaries. Any objections and small businesses are accused of “a plantation-like mentality.”

    Rock on Brother and Sisters!

I once said I would never forgive the Democratic Party for what it did during the primaries. Now, I am literally sickened by my own party. The Dimwits, for sure.

Because the government isn’t going to take away all of the excess. Suggesting the government is going to do that is spin, not the reality.

Earn more, and you’ll still be keeping more of the excess than you give to the feds–just not as much more as before.

Consider the income levels of many elected officials. Do we believe they’re planning to set themselves up to be working for nothing? Or that they’re going to set their powerful and wealthy backers up to be working for nothing? Not very damn likely. Democrats are seeing a more equitable balance, and a sustainable system. It’s actually to the advantage of the wealthy to want that. Otherwise their own privilaged positions will eventually be threatened by an unstable society.

  • Ferd Berfle

Otherwise their own privilaged positions will eventually be threatened by an unstable society.

Hmm. I wonder why the one whose feet you kiss, then, wants a civilian force to match that of the military?

When all of the wealth of a society becomes increasingly concentrated at the top, the poor have less than nothing, and the middle see what they’ve worked a lifetime for slipping away, serious trouble can follow. People can start thinking we’ve got the guns and we’ve got the numbers and forming strange alliances.

History shows us this isn’t an uncommon occurence. Some might consider it a predictable outcome. I prefer thoughtful, orderly adjustments to maintain balance. Trade-offs are generally better than revolutions.

civilian force to match that of the military

Seriously, what is the legitimate point of that? I can’t think of one save for a mad-max type of future where a “civilian-military” (an oxymoron if you ask me) would be needed to squelch rioters maybe. I said this before the election… I will say it again… I spent some time in Southern Mexico and Central America 25 plus years ago and had the privilege of experiencing uniformed teenagers point automatic weapons at me while they pilfered through my stuff. It is not something average Americans are going to enjoy… trust me on that one.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/usnw/20090316/pl_usnw/the_american_legion_strongly_opposed_to_president_s_plan_to_charge_wounded_heroes_for_treatment
The American Legion Strongly Opposed to President’s Plan to Charge Wounded Heroes for Treatment
WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”

The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”

Commander Rehbein was among a group of senior officials from veterans service organizations joining the President, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki and Steven Kosiak, the overseer of defense spending at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The group’s early afternoon conversation at The White House was precipitated by a letter of protest presented to the President earlier this month. The letter, co-signed by Commander Rehbein and the heads of ten colleague organizations, read, in part, ” There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran’s personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide. While we understand the fiscal difficulties this country faces right now, placing the burden of those fiscal problems on the men and women who have already sacrificed a great deal for this country is unconscionable.”

Commander Rehbein reiterated points made last week in testimony to both House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees. It was stated then that The American Legion believes that the reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate that VA treat service-connected injuries and disabilities given that the United States government sends members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. The proposed requirement for these companies to reimburse the VA would not only be unfair, says the Legion, but would have an adverse impact on service-connected disabled veterans and their families. The Legion argues that, depending on the severity of the medical conditions involved, maximum insurance coverage limits could be reached through treatment of the veteran’s condition alone. That would leave the rest of the family without health care benefits. The Legion also points out that many health insurance companies require deductibles to be paid before any benefits are covered. Additionally, the Legion is concerned that private insurance premiums would be elevated to cover service-connected disabled veterans and their families, especially if the veterans are self-employed or employed in small businesses unable to negotiate more favorable across-the-board insurance policy pricing. The American Legion also believes that some employers, especially small businesses, would be reluctant to hire veterans with service-connected disabilities due to the negative impact their employment might have on obtaining and financing company health care benefits.

“I got the distinct impression that the only hope of this plan not being enacted,” said Commander Rehbein, “is for an alternative plan to be developed that would generate the desired $540-million in revenue. The American Legion has long advocated for Medicare reimbursement to VA for the treatment of veterans. This, we believe, would more easily meet the President’s financial goal. We will present that idea in an anticipated conference call with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel in the near future.

“I only hope the administration will really listen to us then. This matter has far more serious ramifications than the President is imagining,” concluded the Commander.

  • cynic

The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!

You think it’s OK for private insurance to weasel out of covering services a veteran is otherwise qualified to receive, just because they can get away with dumping the costs onto the taxpayers?

Pardon me, but exactly who is exploiting a veteran’s earned entitlement to VA health care in a case like that? And who is using that entitlement to exploit American taxpayers to increase their private profits?

This isn’t about taking anything away from a veteran.

It is not going to work like the socialists and communists dream it will. They are intending on “breaking the bank” to the point that even if the truth comes out… it will be too late. But, our economic system and our freedom is stronger than they ever imagined. It will not work.

  • cynic

This is a classic example of the right’s basic modus operandi: They first twist something so as to distort it into a mockery of what it actually is, and then express their outrage at the thing they’ve distorted.

The motive here is to protect not the veteran, but private profits being made at the expense of the taxpayer. Who said anywhere that a veteran’s level of care or availability of care would in any way change, or that the veteran would become personally liable for payment for services?

Obama has actually requested an 11% increase in descretionary funding to provide veterans with a higher level of care.

  • Lyn

Well he HAS to campaign you know re election is only 3 years away.

The nation may not survive Obama. First the danger of runaway inflation, soaring over 50 pc. After that the danger of the country declaring bankruptcy.
