The rest of the world sees the AUMF as the way bush (mis)used it – as permission for bush to start a war with … whomever he wants to. That makes it vital for the next president to repeal it as fast as possible. Obama doesn’t seem inclined to do that.

Senator Clinton is a candidate that has a brigade of brass with many of them having served and borne witness with many years of military sweat, tears and experience. When the going gets tough, Obama gets going. While I rank George W. Bush as among the worst presidents of the US, I still admire him for being man enough to stand by his friends and cronies (like Danny Boy, Harriet Myers, et al). As to Barack Obama, let’s just say that he indeed personifies his “Change” mantra. He conveniently changes his positions and his friends/associates whenever they don’t synch with his near- and long-term plans.

There can be little doubt that Harvard will welcome her back with open arms.

one of the unintended benefits of a hotly contested political race is the candidates begin to reveal character flaws and strengths. maybe this isnt so unintended on second thought! one thing for sure, over the last two months or so obama’s character has become much more transparent. his obvious arrogance was well known but now we are seeing his reluctance to stand by his friends and staffers, an unwillingness or inability to respond to tough questioning, and his inherent sexism. maybe … just maybe some of his supporters will begin to recognize some of these flaws.

finally, a quick review of samantha power’s CV has me more then a little puzzled. how the hell is this woman even qualified to be a senior advisor on foreign policy and security issues. she may have an intellectual background but she seriously lacks any real hands on experience. the only thing i can compare her to … is a very young condolezza rice. not a comforting thought IMHO.

Clinton should have laughed off the “monster” comment; the incident makes her seem vindictive. But she is entitled to run with the BBC/Power waffling on Iraq pullout story.

Samantha Power accidently told the truth about Obama’s Iraq plan and she attempted to call Hillary a monster off the record.

Obviously she’s not real experienced with politcal campaigns, there are rules against telling the truth and rules against sharing your personal feelings with the press.

But I really think Obama is a sleezeball to throw her under the bus. The bucks stops…..at that woman over there?? That’s something Bush has done, thrown a series of women under the bus so he can avoid taking responsibility himself.

Obama showed no leadership on this issue, he could have denounced Samantha’s words and fired her or he could have stood with her and watched her back. Instead he avoids taking any responsibility at all by claiming outside forces forced her to resign.

Grow up, kids. Politics isn’t softball. You fight for your turf, and you prevent another dog trying to take it by force.

No amount of dreaming is going to take this basic precept of politics away.

I guess again, this points to a lack of control, and professionalism, even in Obama’s campaign. Why was this even allowed to happen, given Obama’s association with Ayers, and Auchi?

Imagine what a Presidency would be like?

And I don’t know if he truly is this politically ideological, or if he’s just an inept numb nut, but he never seems to consider the ramifications of the decisions he, or the people around him, make, the message he is sending around all that hope gas.

And even if this is innocent, given Obama’s association with Auchi, and Ayers, it’s simply more gasoline on the fire, giving credibility to the portrayal of Obama as an Auchi terrorist/criminal enabler, or as a politician incapable of rational, good judgement.

When I first read this, I thought it was a joke, more right wing spew, but you know, given his prior actions, and Auchi’s arms everywhere, I really have to wonder.

Collins’ tone is interested-friendly, and candor the overarching purpose, covering everything her thesis at Princeton, her 2007 salary increase [approximately 250% to almost $325,0000 annually], M.’s family, Barack and Michelle’s social life, their church and Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., M.’s observations re: AAs in white society, and her attitude re: the Clinton’s. Well worth reading. I am interested in any and all observations if you have time to read it. For what it’s worth, I think “slicing and dicing while smiling” summed it up.

A clarification-the article is an interview with Michelle Obama, as well as ethnographic details-descriptions, chats with people who know MO, etc. A measure of her audacity, is summed up in the following: MO, when asked is her husband could “take” John McCain, said “Oh, yeah. We got him.”

He pledged new politics and that anybody making attacks would be fired. He failed.

Oh Mr. Green Jeans, one of my first true loves. I had the biggest crush on him when I was five, that was after I became disillusioned with Popeye the sailor man and his constant fighting! LOL.

My son and I got into a discussion the other day about how a lot of people his age didn’t know who Captain Planet is. Captain Planet was the greatest left cartoon character. I encouraged him to watch it, bought him some of the toys, even have a ring around here. Shame the Power Rangers were more popular.

The surest way not to get my vote is to let your character be assassinated by not standing up for yourself. I want a president who is smart, tough and capable and frankly if you can’t defend yourself then you can’t defend this nations honor and integrity. I also think that it implies not standing up for your ideas and policies. People seem to forget that the president is the chief law enforcement official in the land and that means that any candidate must demonstrate character and a big part of character is standing up for what is right including defending yourself from people who attack you in order to stop your ideas.

I am not ready to condemn Obama for sendig Powers home; however, from everything I’ve read about the guy he has no character or sense of righteousness. The things that trouble me are the constant lying, compromising core democratic values to get elected and the willingness to take credit for other peoples ideas and work such as all those bills he sponsored in the Illinois legislature that he had nothing to do with. Oh, I also don’t like that he is just playing a role ala Jimmy Smits on Westwing to get elected. I need some authenticity.

Oh my god, I had a huge crush on Mr. Green Jeans as well – what a remarkably prescient name that was. For me, it was Ike and Green Jeans. I was into politics from 3 on to hear my family tell it.

I watched a docuentary this morninf about the Iraq War called “No End in Sight” which Power just happened to be in ans the whole gist was how Bremer and the rest of those thugs just did what the wanted and Bush just let them call the shots. Well that’s essentially what Obama is saying he will do too with all of his talk about “building coalitions” to get stuff done. I’m not willing to live through another four years of a renegade presidency. Obama is not ready by a longshot.

I get tired of men who avoid responsibility. This entire incident is Samantha Power’s fault or by translation Hillary’s fault. Anybody but Obama.

Speaking of boneheaded, his 17 year relationship with Rezko, his property deal, none of it is his fault either.

The same director — Alex Gabney — did “Taxi To the Dark Side,” which won the Oscar last week. I wrote up a couple stories here about that documentary. Both of my stories link to other great stories on “Taxi.” The executive producer — I only learned the night of the Oscars — is Sidney Blumenthal, who was in the Clinton White House and whose fantastic book (The Clinton Wars) I’m still reading (albeit slowly because I’m on the net too much). Obama is turning out to be the shady politician many people said he was. His rhetorical points in one directions, but his motives are completely differently. Thanks to this type of reporting, the true Obama is emerging. Too bad his apostles don’t understand how they have been taken advantage of, and manipulated by Obama and his minions.

And in the course of learning, gave away such little political capital as Clinton had (took Bill a while to figure out how much less he had than he’d thought).

I’d really rather not live through that again, even with a govt not in ruins, which is not what we’ll be having.

I was just going to venture something about graduate education being less thoroughly grounded in analytical training through exposure to a breadth as well as depth of serious material than maybe it used to be, when NPR’s news voice informed me that some digital devices might have to be reset manually to Daylight Savings Time this morning.

Who knows, maybe it’s the everyday basics that are missing, rather than a genuine understanding of Hume and Foucault. Maybe we should resurrect Baldassare Castiglione, who certainly understood discretion.
