He was Obama's "special" client for three years and Blackwell paid him $80k/yr. When Obama left the firm to run for US Senate, he wrote a letter to the IL State Senate requesting the $320k be granted to Blackwell for a ping-pong tournament in Chicago. Obama has never released his tax returns for those years and the IL State Senate doesn't require money outside to be listed individually, only the total.
