Obama’s Prime-Slime Advisers

Larry Johnson writes that “Obama and His Advisors [Are] Not Ready for Prime Time.” Truer words, truer words — but the thing is that they ARE his primary advisers, minus the now-guillotined Samantha Power.

And there’s that he needs more than the usual number of advisers because he has a tendency to push the wrong button. Of course, who he chooses as his advisers makes one shudder. My prediction is that if he’s somehow elected president, the “Ship of State” will become the “Ship of Fools.”

Here are some more bits and pieces on those powerful advisers:

David Alexrod: “Obama’s chief political strategist, David Axelrod, who also advises and defends and speaks for Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, hasn’t forgotten how politics is played back home.” — from John Kass’s latest column, “Chicago Way the only way to settle Obama-Clinton tiff,” for the Chicago Tribune, March 9, 2008.

(Does that mean, sigh, that you and I now have to search Daley’s speeches for “hope,” “change,” “yes we can,” and “words, just words”?)
Austan Goolsbee: “One aspect of this whole episode that has gotten less coverage is the background of Austan Goolsbee. Ron K in Seattle wrote about him in: The Audiology of Hope: DLC Dogwhistle Economics” — from Eriposte’s story today at LeftCoaster, “More on the Obama NAFTA Flap.” Eriposte adds:

Tony Rezko: Besides the news that three people Rezko tried to land Illinois state jobs for are now on Obama’s staff, there’s hot speculation on the blogs about why Barack Obama said, with certainty in his now-famous 2002 speech on Iraq, that “I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors.” Continued below …

I have no idea if there is any “there there” on this speculation. But the questions remain. Here’s an excerpt from “One-degree of separation 2: Obama’s 2002 speech and Rezko’s power plant in Iraq,” posted at Avid Editor’s Insights blog (and the same quotes are at MyDD, Rezkowatch, and other blogs) [CORRECTION: Avid Reader took this material from RezkoWatch but didn't clearly provide attribution.]

Let’s focus on the key words ‘I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors’.To say that you know something requires an explanation. It has to be based on information certain—not a belief and certainly not hope. How did Obama know? How could he speak with such certainty? Could it perhaps be because of Obama’s 15-to-20-year friendship with indicted Syrian and Chicago resident Tony Rezko, his political fundraiser patron? Could it possibly be because of Rezko’s long-term relationship with exiles and former residents of Iraq, Syria and Jordan, many of whom have either resided in or visited Chicago? Could it possibly be because of Rezko’s affiliation with Iraqi-British billionaire Nadhmi Auchi, alleged to have been a long-time bagman for Saddam Hussein’s secret money-laundering trail, to whom Rezko was ‘introduced several years’ prior to 2005 ‘by a mutual acquaintance in London’ and with whom he entered into a multi-million dollar 62-acre Chicago development deal, and the source of the $3.5 million ‘loan’ wired from a Middle East bank that landed Rezko back in jail January 29, 2008, to await jury selection March 3, 2008? Could it possibly be because of Rezko’s affiliation with corrupt Iraqi exile and Chicago resident—and Interpol fugitive—Aiham Alsammarae who returned to Iraq in 2003 to serve as the Coalition Provisional Authority’s minister of electricity and who was jailed in Iraq in relation to missing millions in reconstruction funds? Could it possibly be because of the joint plan in 2003 by Rezko, Auchi and Alsammarae to build a power plant in Kurdish Iraq—a plan yet unfilled as recently as December 2006?
Note that Auchi claims that no such relationship exists.

Brush aside Obama’s claims of being guilty of making ‘bone-headed’ mistakes in regards to his Rezko-related issues. This very significant one-degree of separation between himself and Rezko’s Iraqi business partners and Saddam Hussein is much more troubling. The apparently now dead-in-the-water plan for the Iraqi power plant—a plan, by the way, openly discussed by Chicago media—raises greater concerns about his judgement where his ties to Rezko are concerned, extending far beyond the unseemly Rezko-facilitated Obama house deal in Chicago or any other assumptions or assertions about political pay-to-play in Illinois.Recently, Chicago political blogger Bill Baar raised questions about the connections between Baghdad and Chicago, saying that:

“Rep. Henry A. Waxman (D-Ill.), Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, ‘[may] not [be] looking hard enough. There is a fascinating trail of philanthropy between Chicago and Baghdad worth sorting out, and considerable sorting it’s going to take.’”

On February 5, 2008, Baar added in regards to the upcoming Rezko trial:

[Writes Baar] We’re going to hear blunt recordings from [the] man who was Obama’s mentor for over 17 years with guys who called themselves ‘The Pope’ (Bob Cellini) and ‘The Rabbi’ (Stuart Levin). They’re going to sound like players out of the Sopranos raising money for Obama: the unamed Political Candidate in the proffer. (A connection leaked to the [Chicago] Sun Times by maybe Levine or Rezko themselves? I doubt Fitz’s office did that.) All it takes is for Obama’s name to pop up a few more times in these documents and recordings and I think Obama will be finished politically. Won’t matter if Obama knew about the wrongdoing or not. Add in the Iraq reconstruction connection when Rezko goes on trial for that, and I think it will be a very damaging picture of Obama’s character and judgement. He won’t survive Illinois politics and Patrick Fitzgerald. …

I don’t know. I just don’t know. But the home purchase is definitely troubling. The American Pundit blog picked up a MyDD diary post, stating, “Hwc looks at the Obama/Rezko land deal and comes to many of the same conclusions I do.” HRC’s diary begins:

The question is whether Rezko did a $925,000 favor for Obama by paying for part of his home? A picture is worth a thousand words, so take a look at this NBC news feature with extensive photos of the property:

The American Pundit blog notes:

1) As you can clearly see from the overhead photos in the video, this was clearly NOT an “adjacent” piece of property. This was quite obviously the yard for the Obama house. The only access to the Rezko property is from Obama’s parcel. The intent here was clearly for Rezko to purchase the land and continue making it available for the exclusive use of the Obama family. A $925,000 favor to a sitting US Senator.

Why did Obama buy a strip of “Rezko” land and build a fence? Simple. Obama knew that eventually somebody would photograph the property and the sham nature of the arrangement would be instantly obvious. Thus, he had to do something to give the appearance of Rezko’s land actually being separate from the Obama house. Thus, building a fence (with a gate providing the only access). Obviously, the Rezko property was never intended to be a separate piece of land and a fence on the original lot line would have been absurd…

American Pundit asks: “Does this sham property purchase, regardless of its legality, seem like good ‘judgment’ to you?,” and then recommends its readers check out the rest of the MyDD diary.

I caught george s this morning recapping the Wyoming caucus yesterday, and he spewed the old talking points, noting NOTHING in regard to how Rezko might affect the GE. He appeared the airhead, the political equivalent of reporter from Entertainment Tonite.

This is how the republican strategy works, you know, set up your opponent’s candidate, then blow him apart, in the GE, aided by a press that repeats what they’re told, like a bunch of well trained, thoughtless, parrots.

If the democrats don’t face up to what is happening, they will lose again. For the life of me, I just can’t understand why those reporters don’t tell the truth, I mean, the stupid weak democrats can’t even project the illusion of controlling this issue. And you don’t want to control the issue, ala Cheney, you want to tell the truth. An imitation of weak republican soup doesn’t win, that’s why Obama is losing. Ask Axelrod.

Pelosi reminds me of those upper class dried up suburban moms who ignore their child’s drug addiction, or their husband’s affairs, smiling as their family is falling apart.

The reason he “knew” that Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction in 2002 is because he likely never said the things he claimed to have said in his speech. There is no record of the speech in its entirety. That is why he re-read his speech in a reenactment with recorded crowd noises in the background, and released it as an ad, thereby duping millions of people into believing they were listening to the real thing. It’s a fact that he re-enacted his supposed speech for an ad. The only statement we know for sure that he made was, “I’m not opposed to all wars, just dumb wars.” The rest of it could be another fanciful tale in a long list of tales Obama has weaved.

It is interesting that former owner of the 49ers had an option on it which “fell through”.

The power plant deal works with Brazil Iraq and Auchi funding 3 plants In Iraq and if that has any muddy foot prints to Exelon, where Axelrod was consulting. On his first escape attempt Aiham Alsammarae had a Chinese passport…The The FutureGen Alliance had a Chinese National company listed as a partner. Sen. Obama had the national podium and made NO public speeches when Bush pulled the funding on FutureGen that I have heard of. Why?

The house deal…both “sales” where put in trust Obama’s and Rezko’s wife. This is part of the LLC scheme. More later. People places and Money and timeline.

No not necessarily, that would be real “amateur time” of Rezko, although in the Bond hearing transcript, Rezko did not disclose any details about Rita Rezko’s trust arrangements. She would have raised the Big Red flag due to her finances, if the property deed was in her name. The trust is a shell just as all the LLC’s are. (and might I add, SO VERY Soprano)

1) Why would Senator Obama have his primary residence in a numbered trust?

McLaughlin went after Obama on the Rezko issue. He is one of the first I have heard mention that the house deal could be a violation of the Senate gift ban. Unless I misunderstand the ban, Senators are banned from taking anything of more than a minimal value whether or not they do favors in return. It sure looks like Obama got something of value because the Rezkos stepped in.

Bernie, I am working hard to get the video of McLaughlin Report. Could use SOME HELP with searching for it. I always DVR that show on Friday nights — McLaughlin is a sharp cookie. They do put up a Podcast of the show at the show’s site — eventually. It wasn’t there on Saturday.

Two Fridays ago, while the rest of his pundits thought Hillary was toast and might only win Ohio and Rhode Island, McLaughlin correctly predicted that she’d win both Ohio and Texas.

McL. thinks there is a lot there about the land trust. He got interrupted a lot, but if he thinks there’s smoke there, I believe him.

I also discern that McL. thinks highly of Hillary.

If he did get a gift, he only needs to re-do his disclosure statements. These guys get caught with their hands in the cookie jar and just submit new forms, say ‘my-bad’ and go about their business. Obama will take a hit though as he’s running as ‘new politics.’ Clinton needs to survive tax disclosure while Obama takes a hit on Rezko. I don’t know that either will happen.

Sen. Obama is forging a new path. He is courageously and necessarily (that fierece urgency of now) trying to implement a more ethical and cooperative way to run for a Presidency or any American office with truth and a concentration on the issues and to point out political differences without the negative way of destroying an opponent for one’s political gain. There is no experience for that, as it is a new path and trend. He is a Pioneer.

He is also trying to necessarily (that fierce urgency of now) implement a new way to Govern through a self-sustaining People’s Colliation, taking the power out of special interest groups, corporations, and those with great wealth and returning the power back to the People where it belongs in a true democracy. There is no experience for this — it is a new way– he is a Pioneer. Some things call for a different energy than experience in breaking down old barriers that do not work for the good of all. It is a hard and difficult task to break down these old special-interest barriers. He is fighting against a very determined force for that not to happen — that is why Hillary Clinton often aligns and compares herself with McCain, the Past, the Old and the Status Quo — Barack represents the Future, the New (newer values) and that which is Progressive.

In essence, America is only as good and strong (a strength forged from goodwill, integrity, a freedom from fear and want) as her politicians and leaders! America is trying to reclaim her Soul!

I like Obama, but he has been a persistent “fence sitter”. He sat on the fence when he had the opportunity to vote NO on the Kyl Lieberman amendment (unnecessary war mongering towards the Iranians) in October of 2007. If he is an anti “unnecessary” war candidate he could have drawn the line in the cement with the “cakewalk in Iraq” zealots who put that amendment together. But HE DID NOT. Obama just “happened” to be our of twon that day. This was weak really really weak! I have also witnessed Obama in several very important hearings over the last several years that he has been Senator and he plays softball (the John Bolton and Condi Rice nomination hearings). These “softball’ techniques are too weak for me. He needs to take a stand when it is necessary. I do not support fence sitting with your finger in the wind.

Now Hillary voted for the 2002 war resolution which provided the avenue for the Bush administration to illegally invade a country that had not attacked us. I hate Hillary’s vote and I hate Hillary’s vote for the Kyl Lieberman amendment she rolled over to the I lobby once again. Not a good sign.

But we are left with the two of them. If they are not going to start debating real issues. It is time for one of them to roll over and let the other get on top.
It is time to unite their forces.

Kyl Lieberman forbade military action, meanwhile Obama used the same language calling the Rev.Guard of Iran terrorists in another piece of legislation.

He also voted against troop reduction and redeployment in 2006.

I have seen and heard how Obama is bringing out the youth vote and his supporters are far more diverse than I had imagined. But Obama has been a “fence sitter” with his finger in the wind, and this scares me.

last fall when he could have taken a stand on the most critical amendment that has come up in regard to Iran as of late the Kyl Lieberman amendment in Oct of 2007 (warmongering by the “cakewalk in Iraq” zealots. Obama just happened to be out of town the day of this critical vote. This is the day he could have demonstrated that he truly is an anti “unnecesary war candidate. He oculd have voted NO on this amendment (Senator’s Biden and Dodd who are both on the Senate Intelligence committee voted NO). Obama would have found himself in very good company. Instead he played it safe. I have seen him do this in the nomination hearings with John Bolton and Condi “mushroom cloud” Rice.

We are left with the two of them and one of them needs to roll over and get on top. I’m going to assume you’re being serious. You write: new path, courage, urgency of now, truth, issues, negative, political gain, pioneer, new govt, special interests, democracy, energy, breakdown old barriers, old, status quo, future, new, goodwill, integrity, soul.

Again, as someone who does not ‘buy’ the touchy feely stuff, what DOES all of that mean?

How is a people’s coalition going to create new governing? What does that mean? Exactly what policy is he committed to that wiill accomplish this?

How is his type of ‘energy’ going to break down barriers? What is this energy? What barriers? What policy is it that he is committed to that will be good for all?

What ‘newer values’ is it you refer to? Is there a policy that is going implement it? I’m thinking about Hucklebee and his plan to add the commandments to the constitution. What value is Obama proposing as policy?

I can’t even come up with a clarifying question to ask in response to any of that because it is so nebulous.

By the way, our ‘soul’ is just fine.

Susan I thought during one of the debates there was a question asked of Obama about his campaign advisor team…that many of his advisors had in the recent past been Clinton advisors. I clearly remember Hillary laughing when this question was asked of Obama and then Obama turning to Hillary and saying something like “look forward to having you as an advisor Hillary” It was funny.

Following the money is important (wish Bush’s Former Secretary of the Treasury Paul O’Neil had not been tossed our of the first Bush administration as soon as he started digging into the Saudi family’s connection $$$$$$$ to those who blew up the world trade centers, and the Bush family’s affiliations). You can read all about this in Ron Susskind’s “The Price of Loyalty”

But Susan it does seem that you are supporting those who are doing their own fearmongering by being focused on every degree of association that Obama may have with Syrian, Iraqi and other exiles. Too bad those tracking Obama have not turned their laser like focus on this issue onto the Bush/Cheney etc associations with Saudi Arabia, and Saddam before they killed him.

If the Democratic candidates and those who support them do not get back to debating the serious issues that face our nation and get off the “monster, is Obama experienced enough” hogwash they may miss the opportunity of their lifetimes. Too join forces, to unite our seniors, the African American vote, the young people who have been inspired by Obama and the many others who he continues to inspire, many of our Vets. “The Urgency of Now” could be their theme song…they need to pivot and turn the spotlight on the disastrous policies of this administration and McCain’t ties to them.

We need to unite these forces that have been released and put the Republican party our of control for at least the next 16 years. I don’t care who is on top at this point…But Obama and Clinton need to decide and ride this TIDAL WAVE into the White House UNITED along with more Democrats into the HOusea and Senate.

And always remember that I am looking at all of this with the certainty that the GOP will use every bit of this — and much more — if he’s the nominee. VET HIM NOW, or rue the day we didn’t.

I had an interesting conversation Saturday afternoon with someone who is a well known Republican. Briefly he said that it is more likely that Conseervatives will come out to vote for McCain if Obama is the nominee than Hillary. The reasoning is that there is genuine concern and even fear over having Obama in the Oval Office, while HIllary is someone they can live with.

Never saw that thought convered in the media, but found it interesting.

They know the realities of raising a family and trying to balance life and the checkbook. The partying days are done, and the realities of life has begun.

Now just to attract the middle aged males, and Hillary would have a majority appeal (so much so to bleed the GOP dry). The only way to do that quickly for an election, is to talk about lowering taxes (or for a radical change, eliminate payroll taxes — that would cause a stampede that’ll attract even the Libertarians).

Dems will have to address the finacial issues, and any talk of massive social spending that can’t be financially met without tax increases, will nix support. Solve that issue, and males will cross-over.

On Face the Nation- the “bottom line is, this is a change election, and Obama clearly represents more change than Clinton does” (murmured approval)….

Um, why? We’ve never had a black President, but we’ve never had a female President, either. We’ve had lots of white Presidents, and Hillary is white. But we’ve had lots of male Presidents, and Obama is male. Why does Black triumph Female in the “change” department?

Is it because we’ve had a Clinton before? How juvenile is that? We’ve never had a president who’s name starts with “O” or ends with “A?” We’ve had presidents from Illinois before, that’s not change. I think a Clinton/Obama ticket is a terribly idea. One or the other, not both. I think a Clinton/Clark idea is a good idea. Clark would completely nullify the McCain hero act.

I would also be really happy if Clinton would choose a Governor like either Richardson or Schweitzer. I think it is foolish to give the impression that the only way Democrats can win is with both frontrunners on the ticket. That is wrong.

Since all I hear is how much alike Clinton and Obama are, it would be better to mix it. It wouldn’t be a mistake to have a veep from the west. We are growing here, and we are becoming more blue every year.

I am not so sure about Clinton not getting the AA vote in November w/o Obama in the ticket. It depends on how certain people in the party play it.

The youth vote is different; but again; it all depends on how they want another 4 yrs of Reps in the WH (during his youthful years).
