Richard Lowry, from NRO, just nailed Obama in three easy steps.

Denounce. Pretend. Adopt.

payn090223_01_cmyk20090220104333

How many times have we seen Obama do this? FISA, Iraq withdrawl, signing statements, rendition, earmarks, spending…taxing health care benefits?!?

What else?

(Be sure to read the NRO article!)

It’s really amazing how fast the man can flip. But the main problem isn’t changing positions. It’s that he talks out of both sides of his mouth, and changing positions is just one of the side effects of that.

Obama doesn’t need them anymore. I truly believe, and this comes from years of watching Presidents, Obama really doesn’t like the military or veterans.

So Obama wants to send more troops to Afghanistan but wants to save money on their and other veterans’ backs. All of this while CEOs and their minions get bonuses. I know life isn’t fair but damn!

Bush tried to do the same thing and I’m speaking from personal experience. Bush III in the house!

Larry, could you please do a post on Obama’s proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered military connected injuries or disabilities? I think he told the commandant of the American Legion he could save $540 million a year doing this, and I am so outraged I could spit. How much did we send to Palestine? How much did we give to “community organizers” like ACORN in the stimulus bill? And we can’t be responsible for taking care of our wounded warriors because Obama needs to save money? I really hate Obama, I really do.

    • mountainaires

Amen, Babs. I just posted a link on it above before I saw your post. No Quarter DEFINITELY needs to do a big blog post on this one. This is unconscionable.

    AGI asked:

    “What else?”

Everything else! The pattern has been set since the GE. Obama now says the “fundamentals of the economy are sound.” John McCain said the same thing and was lambasted. The Dow was at 11,000 when McCain had the temerity to utter the statement. Obama? The Dow has nosedived to 7000, yet we’re suppose to accept the statement as Word from the Mount.

Taxes on health care benifits. McCain brought it up [and frankly, I think this one is a total loser] and was savaged for the suggestion. Now, we find out Obama is “considering” the idea [basically because even he knows that his savings fund for health care reform is about $350 million dollars short].

Lyn mentioned the long awaited “stem cell executive order.” He giveth and he taketh away. An oversight? I don’t think so.

Outrage over AGI bonuses. A Passion Play that I can almost predict will come to nothing. So much Sound and Fury, resulting in zip.

The man is a fraud. The people supporting him are frauds. The whole program is a huge giveaway. How many millions to the Detroit school district? How many millions have disappeared from outright stealing to misappropriation? Will he stand up to the Teacher’s Union? Hell no. Throw more money down the rat hole. And who suffers?? The kids in Detroit, only 5% of which are ready to handle a job or go to college, if and when they graduate. Where’s the outrage on that factoid??

And now the “pundits” are squirming?? Keep notes people. And lists. There’s a reckoning coming.

    Thanks for the article, AGI!

I just have to say this, I am not at all happy with the AIG bonus situation. I am down more than $100K on AIG so I think I get to bitch. But. Changing the rules of the game after the fact is not the American way. Sad to say that 0mama and Geithner are morons when it comes to doing their jobs. They snoozed. We “losed.” Now. Quit yer bitchin’ and move on. You blew it. The voters will have their say.

I don’t like precedents made on the backs of mistakes. Other people will get hurt long term. Allowing taxation to be used to pull this money back can be used on others. It just stinks as a way to cover up for these two losers. And. I am not totally convinced that Geithner at least wasn’t complicit in it.

Requiring employees to pay taxes on health care insurance means less take home pay for anyone with insurance. More people will opt out of the programs, cost the taxpayers more for unpaid emergency room visits and undermine any other health care proposals. This is exactly opposite to his platform during the GE and he mocked McCain for suggesting this as a way to pay for reform. He is not willing to take responsibility (again) so instead of promoting the idea himself, he will let congress propose the idea and will go along. We are looking at four years of others making decisions he wants made, but absolving himself for any blame when things go wrong. Of course, it it turns out well, he will take credit. This is his past and it will be the sum total of every thing he does for the next four years. It has only taken two months to destroy any hope I had he would grow into this powerful position. If there comes a time when he is forced to make a decision he will be held accountable for (ie international crisis)he will likely do nothing.

The list is so long that he becomes immune to criticism because the critics sound like they are crazy. That happens to those who criticize pathological liars. They are the ones that look like liars because of the many lies. No one is able to prepare a cogent attack. People will not pay attention once their attention span is over.

The American Legion Strongly Opposed to President’s Plan to Charge Wounded Heroes for Treatment

WASHINGTON, March 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The leader of the nation’s largest veterans organization says he is “deeply disappointed and concerned” after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

“It became apparent during our discussion today that the President intends to move forward with this unreasonable plan,” said Commander David K. Rehbein of The American Legion. “He says he is looking to generate $540-million by this method, but refused to hear arguments about the moral and government-avowed obligations that would be compromised by it.”

The Commander, clearly angered as he emerged from the session said, “This reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate ‘ to care for him who shall have borne the battle’ given that the United States government sent members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. I say again that The American Legion does not and will not support any plan that seeks to bill a veteran for treatment of a service connected disability at the very agency that was created to treat the unique need of America’s veterans!”

Commander Rehbein was among a group of senior officials from veterans service organizations joining the President, White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel, Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki and Steven Kosiak, the overseer of defense spending at the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The group’s early afternoon conversation at The White House was precipitated by a letter of protest presented to the President earlier this month. The letter, co-signed by Commander Rehbein and the heads of ten colleague organizations, read, in part, ” There is simply no logical explanation for billing a veteran’s personal insurance for care that the VA has a responsibility to provide. While we understand the fiscal difficulties this country faces right now, placing the burden of those fiscal problems on the men and women who have already sacrificed a great deal for this country is unconscionable.”

Commander Rehbein reiterated points made last week in testimony to both House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees. It was stated then that The American Legion believes that the reimbursement plan would be inconsistent with the mandate that VA treat service-connected injuries and disabilities given that the United States government sends members of the armed forces into harm’s way, and not private insurance companies. The proposed requirement for these companies to reimburse the VA would not only be unfair, says the Legion, but would have an adverse impact on service-connected disabled veterans and their families. The Legion argues that, depending on the severity of the medical conditions involved, maximum insurance coverage limits could be reached through treatment of the veteran’s condition alone. That would leave the rest of the family without health care benefits. The Legion also points out that many health insurance companies require deductibles to be paid before any benefits are covered. Additionally, the Legion is concerned that private insurance premiums would be elevated to cover service-connected disabled veterans and their families, especially if the veterans are self-employed or employed in small businesses unable to negotiate more favorable across-the-board insurance policy pricing. The American Legion also believes that some employers, especially small businesses, would be reluctant to hire veterans with service-connected disabilities due to the negative impact their employment might have on obtaining and financing company health care benefits.

“I got the distinct impression that the only hope of this plan not being enacted,” said Commander Rehbein, “is for an alternative plan to be developed that would generate the desired $540-million in revenue. The American Legion has long advocated for Medicare reimbursement to VA for the treatment of veterans. This, we believe, would more easily meet the President’s financial goal. We will present that idea in an anticipated conference call with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel in the near future.

“I only hope the administration will really listen to us then. This matter has far more serious ramifications than the President is imagining,” concluded the Commander.

    • Fredster

That sack of shit. That was the whole idea behind establishing service-connected injuries/illnesses; so the veteran could get treatment at VA facilities.

VA has had to cut back so much in recent years that non-service-connected vets were pretty much left out. And now he wants to charge s/c vets?

I hope this jerk has the balls to try to address the conventions of the service organizations as Presidents usually do. It’s be hysterical to see the response he gets from the vets.

      • FLDemFem

When I first read about this, and posted a link a few days ago, I was wondering just how that would work. I mean, put yourself in the insurance salesman’s shoes. Do you really issue a policy to someone who is going into combat?? And if you do, is it affordable?? And will you try to get out of it when the soldier gets wounded? We all know the problems with insurance, few of them pay as their policy states they will and only after tons of paperwork and argument from the policyholder. How can anyone imagine putting a wounded vet through that?? Or imagine the stress it will put on the families who try to deal with a wounded family member and the insurance companies. No wonder the military is wondering if they have to take his orders. I don’t blame them one damn bit.

Here you go, found another one
    http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-obama-genocide17-2009mar17,0,3250498.story
The Obama administration is hesitating on a promised presidential declaration that Armenians were the victims of genocide in the early 20th century, fearful of alienating Turkey when U.S. officials badly want its help.

President Obama and other top administration officials pledged during the presidential campaign to officially designate the 1915 killings of Armenians by the Ottoman Turks as genocide. Many Armenian Americans, who are descendants of the victims and survivors, have long sought such a declaration.

But the administration also has been soliciting Ankara’s help on Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and other security issues amid Turkish warnings that an official U.S. statement would imperil Turkey’s assistance.

Administration officials are considering postponing a presidential statement, citing progress toward a thaw in relations between Turkey and neighboring Armenia. Further signs of warming — such as talk of reopening border crossings — would strengthen arguments that a U.S. statement could imperil the progress.
“At this moment, our focus is on how, moving forward, the United States can help Armenia and Turkey work together to come to terms with the past,” said Michael Hammer, a spokesman for the National Security Council. He said the administration was “encouraged” by improvements in relations and believed it was “important that the countries have an open and honest dialogue about the past.”
Armenian Americans and their supporters, however, say policies that avoid offending Turkey merely advance Ankara’s denial of brutal periods in its history…….
