Interesting Thread at TalkLeft:

(Is Obama the president you want picking the next Supreme Court nominee? Will he readily seek “unity” by picking another John Roberts type? Will he cave to conservative pressure?) BTD = Big Tent Democrat, a front-pager at TalkLeft along with Jeralyn. BTD used to be a very prominent front-pager and diarist at DailyKos. Here, he reminisces about a famous exchange he had with the Barack Obama at DailyKos:

there was quite a famous exchange between Obama and BTD at Daily Kos back in the day, although I have no idea if Obama actually read it. BTD takes a back seat to no one.

You mean he thought you were being to hard on dems that voted for this:
What bothered the chief justice was that Exxon was being ordered to pay $2.5 billion — roughly three weeks’ worth of profits — for destroying a long swath of the Alaska coastline in the largest oil spill in American history.
“So what can a corporation do to protect itself against punitive-damages awards such as this?” Roberts asked in court.

The lawyer arguing for the Alaska fishermen affected by the spill, Jeffrey Fisher, had an idea. “Well,” he said, “it can hire fit and competent people.”

    Larry..

You have to check this out. It’s a bombshell.

    http://www.riehlworldview.com/carnivorous_conservative/2008/03/did-obama-earma.html

It looks like St. Barack got his wife’e employer a $1 million earmark right after they gave her a 160% raise without a promotion.

    • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Saul, got it. it’s in the earmarks story. I have another “bombshell” there too…. re the Crown family. Important. Very important.

  • Lorelynn

Now, there are also ties between Rezko, and the medical community as well, right? Am I imagining that?

    • LuLu

Hospital board, Rezko, trial. All of this is connected somehow. Earmarks, big salaries, political contributions, hospital boards, pay to play, mansions, governer, kickbacks, state contracts, middle eastern billionaires, and on and on and on. This was not to come out until 2009.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Here’s why this thread is important to me:

My bottom line, when I’m deciding if I can hold my nose and vote for the Democratic nominee, is the Supreme Court. Will the candidate nominate antidotes to Scalia et al?

With Barack Obama, I have ZERO FAITH — ZERO — that he won’t capitulate to conservative pressure and nominate more John Roberts types.

So what would be the point in holding my nose and voting for him?

Especially with his pro-privatizin’ Social Security economists?

What bedrock Democratic values would compel me to vote for this fraud?

    • Fleaflicker

I don’t think they make a clothespin strong enough to hold my nose tight enough to vote for Obama under any circumstances.

  • Saul Goode

It’s getting even more interesting. Not only did Michelle’s employer give her a raise of upwards of $200,000, but guess who is St. Barack’s largest campaign donor.

    Yup, you guessed it

    • Fleaflicker

      WOWZERS!

This certainly looks like not only Mrs. Obama suddenly got a raise and new position but her husband scored big time too.

      Follow the money.

    • AF

      Holy smokes!

Isn’t ethics a required course in law school? Well maybe Harvard Law isn’t top tier.

  • The Gringo’s Wife

    Susan, precisely my thoughts.

I made the mistake of watching CNN today. Sheezuz what a Hillary Bash Fest! I got so upset I did housework. Imagine that!

    And I think when I work. :)

It is disheartening the amount of bile being thrown out there by the Obama people. Personally, I think Obama has his own freedom and reputation at stake. The sooner he wins the nomination, the sooner he will receive the full-on support of the party.

There is no commodity worth more than the human
    ego.

If Mr. Obama is elected the candidate, there is little chance that the supporters he has now will capitulate, for any reason, for they would be handing over their … ego. “Sorry” is not the hardest part. It is the “I was wrong” that many will die with stuck in their throats, much like so many Bush supporters continue to hold their own bile despite the transparent fact the all recognize by now, he is a total buffoon (tap dancing during war? mocking the justice system with a lil ditty for his friends at a party? The man has no shame. Our military men and women, not to mention the hundreds of Iraqi dying appear to bear no distress on this megalomaniac.

I think Obama is literally running for his life. Once he has the nod, he will have incredible amount of influence and power. If you think you can’t question him now, wait until the crown goes on.

    God help us!

But I don’t believe he will win the election.

And here is my housework epiphany: McCain may not be my candidate, but in my humble opinion, he has earned the right to be president. At least compared to Obama.

I know McCain. And while I may not agree with him on a great many issues, it is clear that he is a Patriot (with a capital “P”) who served this country long and well. There is no noise of corruption and in this sense, I trust him.

A thief will continue stealing. Mr. Obama has been gaming the system for personal benefit. I don’t trust him to put aside his greed for love of country anymore than he put aside his greed for love of his own District and the very African American people he is now using like a weapon against Hillary. The level of his hypocrisy is startling.

And he cannot count on my vote.

Axelod tries to sell us a bad apple. Oprah has been fooled again.
    Remember that book scandal.

  • jimbo

I’m convinced a lot of the HRC bashing in blogs comes from reuglie trolls spewing their usual devisive poison. Why? Because they think Obama is vulnerable. Case in point, the relevations that preceeded this comment. And of course, Rezko. The repugly filth has access to wiretaps and other illegal access to private calls and communications. This probably means all conversations between Obama, Rezko and other unsavory characters. Obama claims nothing untoward happened, but Obama’s character claims otherwise. Obama needs to become squeaky clean, but he can’t. The repuglies will not hesitate to use illegally obtained information to indict Obama, assuming he gets the nomination. Further, this is a very good reason that Clinton refuses to bring on Obama as the VP.

  • jimbo

I’m also convinced this point needs to be hammered over and over. Obama is vulnerable, unable or unwilling to defend himself, and the repuglies will do anything to hold on to power. Obama gets the nomination, this country is screwed.

  • Saul Goode

    WOWZERS!

This certainly looks like not only Mrs. Obama suddenly got a raise and new position but her husband scored big time too.

Not quite…she was given a raise of almost $200,000 for the same job!!!

  • http://www.despair.com/idiocy.html Smilin’ Jim

Liberals keep posing the wrong question. No wonder reactionaries eat your lunch with such relish.
What you should be asking is : How do we get Obama on the Supreme Court?

    Think awhile………..
    Harvard Law Review’s President……..
    Graduated Magna Cum Laude……..

We may just have found the one thing that the kid is qualified for …..and he’d out of our hair for a lifetime.

The teas with Thomas will be a gas.

  • TeakWoodKite

Smilin Jim …I have serious doughts regarding having Obama on the supreme court due his recent comments regarding Hillary’s offering a bill on the AUMF… Obama called it “convoluted”. He does not understand that the AUMF is what got Bush’s party started. if he does not understand this I won’t budge.

    Think awhile………..
    Harvard Law Review’s President……..
    Graduated Magna Cum Laude
I was of the same mind initially, not now.
