I think Glenn Beck raises some excellent points in these two videos. The government, people like Dodd and Grassley, are trying to raise a mob to go after the AIG employees who took the bonuses. Grassley even said they should commit suicide…. Quit sending the rabid dogs after the AIG employees!

Government is buying you off.


If anyone is going to raise an angry mob, and scream *off with their heads!* at anyone, it is the American people on Washington. The fault lies with Washington. Those who granted the bailouts, those who wrote the loopholes for those bonuses, those who didn’t monitor what was happening with the bailout money, and those who claimed to know what was happening with the money, and granted even more bailout money. Watch this video.

That’s not to say there aren’t some at AIG guilty of mismanagement, or that some big wigs worked with the Treasury Department to ensure those bonuses remained. They have some responsibility in this financial mess, but we elect Congress, and the President, to spend our money wisely. They failed. They lied. And they are trying to cover it up, and create distractions.

Mob rule in Washington.

The bad guys aren’t those at AIG. The bad guys are in Washington. They are lying, covering up, and creating distractions (see my post obama hypocrisy watch). They are either the most corrupt or the most stupid people, ever.

Case in point – this little tidbit of Breaking News!

At least 13 firms receiving billions of dollars in bailout money owe a total of more than $220 million in unpaid federal taxes, a key lawmaker said Thursday.

Rep. John Lewis, chairman of a House subcommittee overseeing the federal bailout, said two firms owe more than $100 million apiece.

Banks and other firms receiving federal money were required to sign contracts stating they had no unpaid taxes, Lewis said. But he said the Treasury Department did not ask them to turn over their tax records.

Washington is granting all these bailouts, with tax payer’s money, and these companies owe MILLIONS in back taxes. Stop the insanity!!!

    There is obviously a whole of Congressional grandstanding going on either to gain political advantage and/or in some cases to cover their own tracks.

    The Congressional outrage is getting a bit tedious. Why don’t they just fix things and move on — is that maybe because they don’t know how?

    You are right on target: The blamers are putting the blame on others. It’s all about money. BIG money. So where does BIG money go? To the Big companies that “…we can’t let fail”.

    This will turn our economy around? Give us all jobs again? Help us export products and services? Not unless you work for one of the Big companies, or happen to be in the weapons/war business.

    The AIG bonus story is a smokescreen. Just under 1% of the money AIG received went out to this group of employees in bonuses. Where did the other 99% go?

    I’ve been trying to come up with a plan to turn the economy around. The only one I can think of is that the Earth is being invaded by a force from another galaxy. We all band together to defeat them. Fight Global Warming? The end of Earth is near, maybe that will unite us.

        and i agree, when people are being laid off, tax payer money should NOT be used to pay them bonuses.

        But that was the responsibility of those we elect, to spend our tax money wisely. They didn’t. They ALLOWED these companies to get their bonuses. And the people that ALLOWED this to happen are the biggest recipients of money from AIG. And then they lied about it, adn tried to cover it up, and then acted with all this faux outrage.

    The people receiving the bonuses didn’t grant themselves the bonuses. Wasn’t their decision. Nor did they know when they agreed to the terms they were signing up for a political firestorm.

            There is no provision in the law to do it. They can’t just decree that the bonuses won’t be handed out unless the bill specifically said so, which it didn’t. The law is the law.

CA and MA have “done the right thing?” My next hope is that Dodd will not be re-elected, but I’m not holding my breath…

                  What I want to know is since when did volunteerism become an issue meant for only low income or minority status individuals? There is a plethora of non-profit organizations that serve a wide range of citizens NOT just the disadvantaged.

    First of all, the bad guys are at AIG. Second of all, the bonuses could have been negotiated out of the bailout if AIG or anybody else wanted the public funds. Contracts? How about asking your employees do they want to have a job? Then waive the bonuses. I’m not sure why Americans tend to be so lenient and permissive with corporate executives and corporations period. If we aren’t lenient with lower-class crime we shouldn’t be dismissive of white-collar crime. These people have broken the law and that’s why their losing their companies. Everyone in society needs to be regulated. Average people are regulated by laws and rules, businesses certainly need to be regulated.

      why would they voluntarily take out their bonuses? it was up to the people giving them money to ask how it was going to be spent, and NOT write in loopholes, letting them keep the bonuses.

      i’m not saying there aren’t any corrupt people at AIG. But, to form a posse, and tell these employees to kill themselves is wrong. The company acted in their best interest, and the governement let them. We vote for Congress, not employees at AIG.

        That is the key. The issue of bonuses was not addressed by the bill. Perhaps that is why it wasn’t available until after it was passed and signed.

            According to my wife, the issue of bonuses was not specifically addressed in the bill. Without specifics, it would then be up to the be up to the Administration. Either way, the Democrats are at fault.

His ratings are going through the roof of late because he has channeled a lot of very understandable public frustration and anger. I don’t agree with him on everything.       the governement should have let them file chapter 11, and wipe away all those bonuses. Companies give bonuses…. Haven’t you ever worked for a company that gave bonuses? People consider bonuses as part of their salary. Maybe many of these people did exceptional jobs – and suffered because of the fault of a few.

      Congress/WH/treasury failed by not doing something about those bonuses.

      I’m not saying I am happy about them getting bonuses with tax payer money. But forming a lynch mob to go after THEM is wrong. They aren’t the ones we should be pissed at.

        Yes, that is the truth. When we went into business with AIG it was a mistake and has clouded everything. Business should be allowed to make it or not on their own merits… to do otherwise is unfair to the other businesses. How can businesses compete with government subsidized competitors? It is unfair to ask it of them.

The Democratic Congress did not allow members to have copies of the bills. This travesty was passed and now we have these corrupt morons on the Hill throwing stones at AIG.

    AIG is being scapegoated for the sins of Obama and Congress. It was Obama and the Dems that signed off on this. More significantly, Obama wants sweeping powers to have his toxic legislative mess passed in Congress. Instead of having the necessary 60 votes, all the Democrats would need is a simple majority.

    Impeach Obama and throw the corrupt Democrats out!

    Yesterday there was all the AIG talk and while the treasury printed over a trillion dollars ( buying our own security bonds).This is the last ditch effort made to keep our country out of a depression.

        What I’m learning about Nutter, I love this guy! I saw him with Rendell at the last Hillary rally b/4 the primary and it’s obvious the two get along well.

        I have great hopes that he will help Philly – it will be a rocky road to repair all of the mess Street left but Nutter appears to be the guy to do it.
