Well if the number of billionaires decreased over the past year, you can bet so did the number of millionaires and hundredthousandaires too. And as the number of "wealthy" has declined, then that means less of them and and less income to tax. Obama needs as many rich people as possible to pay for all the programs he wants to implement. That means either no programs, or more likely, the thousandaires (that 95% of the population per Obama) will see their taxes increase.

Speaking of Contracts...
<blockquote>Scholes served almost eight years on the board of CME Group Inc., the world’s largest futures market, until his term expired in May, said Allan Schoenberg, a CME spokesman. CME operates the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, Chicago Board of Trade and New York Mercantile Exchange. He was a partner in Long-Term Capital Management LP, the hedge fund whose $4 billion loss in 1998 set off a near-panic in financial markets and prompted the Federal Reserve to orchestrate a bailout by 14 lenders.

<em><strong>A total of $531 trillion in outstanding derivatives contracts </strong></em>traded over-the-counter as of June, according to the International Swaps and Derivatives Association. They were mostly interest-rate swaps, but also included CDS and equity derivatives.

“Take the pricing mechanism from the desks in banks, which have made a huge amount of profits over the last number of years, and facilitate price discovery,” Scholes said. </blockquote>

While I have never wanted to be dirt poor, I can honestly say that I have never desired wealth.
We often speak of wealthy people with derision and scorn, but they have a great deal of responsibility on a daily basis, and we see that their lives are often tragic.
Corruption and greed factor in the equation, but their consumption of luxury items provide returns to society.

LMAO. Their PowerPoint presentation must be out of date with old talking points. Apparently they need more briefings from the botHQ.

I've had the pleasure lately of having a few bots try to defend their leader. They will say something to the effect of, but the economy is starting to turn around. Obama is helping. I always reply, do the math. Obama said he will create or save 3.5 million jobs in the next 2-3 years. We've lost 4.5 million since December. It's all in the math. You can watch the realization come across their faces. Then they shut up.

It's a good thing all the rich folks will be paying all the taxes and there is enough money there to cover all the expenses for everyone else to benefit from Obama's programs...Oh, wait!

Things are not as bad as they may appear. Eighteen people were dropped from the list of billionnaires because they died last year. Surely, many billionaires-to-be were born this year, but because they are infants, they are not on the list.

Let us look to Voltaire's Dr. Pangloss: "All's for the best in this best of all possible worlds." If everybody were rich, there would be nothing special about being a billionnaire. So the natural order of things dictates that some people must be poor in order for Forbes to create a readable list of rich people.

Lately there has been some rancor on this blog about Obama's less than generous gifts to our British cousins. But now, see how things are improving! On the front page of the New York Times, there is a photo of Michelle Obama helping to prepare the earth for the new White House vegetable garden. Michelle is extending the hand of friendship to our French allies by demonstrating her admiration for Voltaire: "Il faut cultiver notre jardin."

Courage, mes amis.

Nicely put together, Linda. Judging from this, I'd say it isn't just the middle class that needs to worry about That One and his <strike>frat-boy</strike> <strike>hit-and-miss</strike> neo-neocon ideas to get the economy moving.
