From Larry Doyle’s wife, a great short speech by a Congressman

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter slams AIG stimulus protections passed in partisan stimulus bill:

Rep. McCotter comes from Michigan’s 11th Congressional District and is, yes, a Republican. Here’s his YouTube channel and the link to his House Web site. BELOW, REP. McCOTTER ASKS THE SAME QUESTIONS THAT I DID in my story below which, for short, I’ll call “All The President’s Men”:

  • Phishmelt

how many jobs could have been created/saved by re-distributing 160 million to 1.2 billion from the bonuses.

better yet, how many jobs is the 40-50 billion (and counting) sent to foreign banks and other companies cost us.

  • jbjd

When it comes to righteous indignation, this, finally, looks like the real thing. Thank goodness. (Here’s a copy of the email I sent to Senator Kennedy yesterday, after reading the CBC report.)

What on earth am I paying you for? It’s bad enough that you aided and abetted Barack Obama to steal the Democratic nomination from the only person fit to lead; and that you failed to object he isn’t even a Natural Born Citizen, anyway. But now, adding insult to injury, you remain silent while he robs our Treasury so that when he is through, the only people with enough money to donate to the Special Olympics will be him and his corrupt international colleagues. And, as we know from their tax returns, they don’t donate to charities, anyway!

You are going out in the way of Clark Clifford, who will only be remembered for BCCI.

  • Portia Elizabeth

Wow, jbjd! That’s a powerful letter. I wish it would make a difference, but I’m too jaded and cynical to believe what we say matters to those on Mt. Olympus in Washington.
That’s an amazing speech by Rep. McCotter. Eloqent, succinct, coherent. How did he manage it without a teleprompter?

  • Sassy

I saw Rep. McCotter’s presentation earlier.
Also several other Republicans have made some excellent points.
As usual the excuse is that these bonuses are “chump change”!
Tennessee’s unemployment rate has reached a record of 9.1% and expected to possibly reach our all-time high of 12%. These workers are the real “chumps”!

Damnz. McCotter’s a bad ass. Such an articulate speaker. So direct, eloquent, efficient.

Surely he’s using a teleprompter, right?

I think what they mean is that, AIG actually wired a much larger sum of money to foreign banks and that is the money they need to follow not these bonuses. Also just because I voted for McCain doesn’t mean I don’t believe that Republicans and hell politicians in general are not out of touch. It is just the ungodly amount of money we didn’t have that Democrats wanted to spend that I was against. I also do not trust obama with my money. he engaged in far to much Bush/Cheneyesq cronism while in Illnois so i dont’ trust Barack Obama with onethin dime of my money.

However i must say it is refreshing for once to hear the truth. not people trying to cover there asses or sink someone elses but just being honest that they screwed up royally with this bill and it needs to be investigated and have people held accountable. Not for play play but for real. We need too stop playing with these politicians they think we are a joke. America does not have money to give away.

I emailed Senator Byah and gave him kudos-encouragement to continue on with his work with moderate Democrats. I hope others will do the same. I’m sure there’s a lot of pressure on Senator Byah to go along with the Obama program; he needs all the encouragement he can get.

I called his office to say “good for you”. I hope that this group can inject some sanity into this process.

If the prudent pragmatists would wrest control from the idealogues on BOTH sides of the aisle in this country, we’d have a welcome revolution. Those of us who believe in NEITHER bloated government nor non-existent tiny government, but in practical EFFECTIVE government don’t get a platform at all in our system.

You’re spot on. Between the two squeaky-wheel extremes, the center rarely get a word in edge-wise.

  • Joe

Believe it or not, this was all extemporaneous since there aren’t any telepromters on the House floor (except during the State of the Union).
