The Rise and Fall of Barack Obama

The skinny kid with the funny name from Hawaii had a great run. By forcing all four other candidates off the ballot, including the woman who had reached out to help him, he maneuvered his way into the Illinois State Legislature. There, he found an extortionist and money launderer who channeled hundreds of thousands of dollars in campaign contributions his way, while helping land a plum real estate deal. Then, in spite of an undistinguished career in the state legislature where he repeatedly pushed the wrong button on votes, he found another backer in the Illinois Senate who funneled dozens of bills his way to sponsor — even though others had done the groundwork for years and were thus robbed of the recognition they deserved — thus padding Obama’s credentials for a national Senate run, in exchange for Obama later pushing through $300 million of earmarks in return.

Once in the Senate, he found a couple of other prominent supporters who were anxious to tear down the Clintons and, lo and behold, the first term Senator was running for president, in spite of earlier promising he would complete his first term and admitting he was too inexperienced to seek national office.

And, the funny thing is, he came so close. Riding on his oratorical skills and the backing of one of the wealthiest media magnates in the world, he put together a coalition of African Americans and and upper-income voters. Despite receiving a minority of votes cast by whites, Latinos, and Asians, and losing 7 of the largest 8 states in the nation (all except his home state of Illinois), his big margins in some Southern States and midwestern caucus states gave him a decent lead in delegates over Hillary Clinton. By stalling efforts at a revote in Florida, he looked like he had a good chance of keeping his lead in delegates and popular votes into the Democratic convention, where he and his supporters could extortion votes from remaining Super Delegates by threatening not to support Hillary Clinton if nominated.

Though potential road blocks emerged, particularly with the start of the Rezko trial, the media continued to treat Obama with kid gloves at the same time that it pilloried Hillary Clinton. All that started to change though as the race drew to an end, with Obama having emerged as the frontrunner. In the end, it was the controversy over his pastor and spiritual advisor, Jeremiah Wright, that brought Obama down. A series of videos emerged — sold and promoted by Wright’s church itself — which showed Wright angrily denouncing “the United States of White America” and “USKKKA”, which he said, purposely introduced AIDS into the Black community and brought the Sept. 11 attacks on itself. Wright also said that Hillary Clinton was not deserving of the presidency because “she’s never been called a nigger,” and proclaimed “God Damn America” as an alternative to God bless America. The repeated broadcast of Wright angrily making these pronouncements becamed seared in the nation’s consciousness.

Obama attempted to rescue himself by criticizing Wright’s remarks, dropping Wright from the campaign’s African American religious committee, and implying that he was not aware of these stands until recently. However, given that Obama had attended Wright’s church for 20 years, been married by him, had his children baptized by him, donated tens of thousands of dollars per year to his church, and lauded him in his book, Audacity of Hope (appropriately named for one of Wright’s slogans), the public wasn’t buying it. Obama’s popularity among every group but African Americans sank like a stone.

The first bad news came on April 22 in Pennsylvania, a state that the Obama campaign itself projected to lose by only 5 points. In the end, Obama lost by 20, getting barely a quarter of the white vote. Guam tilted for Clinton as well, and then the crushing blow came on May 6, when Obama narrowly lost two sizeable states he had projected to win, Indiana and North Carolina. Not unexpectedly, West Virginia and Kentucky went by huge margins for Clinton, who then squeezed out a win in Oregon as well. Clinton picked up dozens of delegates in a big Puerto Rico win, and won a narrow victory in the Michigan revote as well. The Montana and South Dakota primaries were close, but by that time the result was foretold.

Clinton’s string of victories had pulled her close to Obama in both the delegates and popular vote, with Obama’s margin in both dependent on exclusion of Florida. Obama had fallen far behind in the national polls, both directly against Clinton and in comparison with Clinton in match-ups with McCain. His string of defeats, including in states he had been expected to win, and his low level of approval among whites, Hispanics, and Asians, indicated that he didn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of winning the national election. Every day, more and more super delegates were announcing their support for Hillary. Her nomination was secured. The only question that remained was whether Obama would maintain enough support from pledged and super delegates to force Hillary to accept him as her VP. If so, he still had a chance to redeem himself and survive to run again another day.

I guess we’ll see about that ending. But I like it.

One of the reporters on “the Chris Matthews Show” yesterday said Edwards was preparing to endorse Clinton before the NC primary. I was doing housework and did not see who was speaking on the teevee. Anyone else heard this?

    • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

It was the managing editor of Time magazine / he said he heard it from Mark Halperin.

John Edwards knows that Hillary’s economic and health care policies are far closer to his own, and that Obama’s econ/health plans are far weaker and that Obama’s econ advisers are ‘wingers in favor of privatizing Social Security.

He also surely knows that his supporters — most of them — will probably flip out if he endorses her, but his conscience has to tell him that that is the right thing to do. His supporters will calm down, especially if he explains his reasoning — and he’s very good at doing that.

    • flyarm

I have had a felling for some time that John would either not endorse at all or would endorse Hillary..there was too much talk..i heard in Iowa among Edwards “people” about stuff that was known by them then , about Obama..Remember alot of volunteers for Edwards were top dog lawyers..They knew alot about his problems with Rezko..and i don’t mean just the superficial stuff we have heard thus far.( or not heard much on MSM)
Plus many of the lawyers worked the caucus In Iowa for John as co-captains ( i did as well but i am not a lawyer..but i worked with one on a caucus) ..we saw stuff none of us liked..I am sure now John has been made very aware of what went on.

John and Elizabeth have the utmost integrity. They will support and only endorse who they think is the best person for the highest office in the world.

They also know who screwed them in the back!!..

And I will say what I have said to others who were in Iowa and SC working with me doing volunteer work for Edwards..and I was a Kerry/Edwards delegate in 2004..I have seen this man speak many times.
I have never ever seen John Edwards read a speech..he did the day he suspended. I have never seen him flub up a speech..he did the day he suspended..those were not his words he was reading!
The speech he delivered, he was not happy about or comfortable with..it was not his speech. And i do not believe it was his choice to suspend his campaign.
I could be wrong, but i do not believe i am.

I have my suspicions who pushed him out….but I will keep them to myself.

I would hope John and Elizabeth would not endorse if they are not 100% sure, but i don’t believe they would, under those circumstances.

They are incredible people with incredible instincts about people, and judgement of people.

I believe they have seen what many of their supporters have seen,,Obama does not have integrity, only blind ambition. He is a snake oil salesman…and I mean snake.

      • sjl106

Edwards dropped out of the race after Florida voted, I believe he saw the writing on the wall. People were wanting to make history. And as coy as it sounds Edwards is the “status quo” “white male.” There were many of us put off by Edwards ganging up with obama against Hillary also and for the life of me I don’t understand why he did that. Hillary has devoted her entire life in working for the betterment of people and our country. Think what you will about her political skills and demeanor, she has never been selfish in her work. Self-serving isn’t one that could be contributed to her here history just doesn’t show that.

      • TJ

Do you know why his Iowa delegates just switched to Obama? I’m at a loss.

    • RMC

Edwards almost has to endorse HRC at this point. And if he does it’s all over for BHO.

    • Nathan

Well he certainly can’t endorse Obama after Wright. Also, the only Democrat who will even think, let alone be happy, about having him in their cabinet would be Clinton. Edwards would have no place in a “unity” administration.

I wonder what Gore will do. I hope he stays out of it until this is over.

      • Fred C. Dobbs

Gore has the opportunity to become Teddy Kennedy-eque: not running for POTUS successfully, but having a lot of input into who does.

One must admire his Restraint (after the 2000 Coup and unsuccessfully pitching himself to become President of Harvard). If the Democrats, SCOTUS, Donna Brazile and the MSM had screwed me that vigorously (and not kissed me Good Night), I’d have taken my bag of money, bought a little land down south for a Big House, told the Democratic Party and its nudnik leadership to Kiss My Ass and gone fishing with Tommy Lee Jones for a couple of decades.

After the 1000th combat death in Iraq, I would’ve hired some sound trucks, painted my smiling face (complete with beard) on the sides, and sent them all over the Eastern seaboard and the Rust Belt, playing Toby Keith’s, “How Do You Like Me NOW?” constantly and very, very loudly for two weeks.

Maybe five or six of them running up and down Wall Street TODAY!

Payback is a bitch. REVENGE is a M**********r!

        • simon

Rumor had it at one point, though this is the HEIGHT of paranoia, I’m the first to admit, that a President Gore would have led to a President Lieberman, in no time.

According the conspiracy theorists, PNAC and the like REALLY REALLY wanted Iraq.

I apologize, I shouldnt spread unfounded gossip.

      • joe

I have been hearing speculation that the only way to unite all of the warring factions of the party before the convention would be the following scenario:

        Al Gore – Presidential nominee
        Barack Obama – Vice-Presidential Nominee

Hillary Clinton – Senate Majority Leader

I think it is a pie in the sky fantasy that this would magicly come together and work for the GE. I also don’t think there is a chance in hell that Hillary would give up that easily.

There seems to be a real fracture in the party between the ultra-lib (Teddy, Pelosi, Gore, Dean, Kerry) and the Clinton wings of the party. It seems these people DO NOT want Hillary as the nominee and they will stop at nothing to accomplish it. Problem is, the public does have a say in the process and I think it will become increasingly clear that people do not want BHO in any form. If he is toxic, as I think he will be, Hill will win but the party is still screwed because blacks will stay home and some might jump ship. This is ugly and could be disasterous for the party, and I say that as an Illinois resident who despises Obama.

    • BloggerBoyz

Edwards would be a damn hero if he tried to save the Dem Party from itself, not just by endorsing HRC but by gently pointing out Obama can’t win.He won’t do it, but damn, if he did Mr. Positive would ream him and that would really hurt him.

AWESOME post! lol Just awesome! He is done. D-O-N-E. I don’t know how anybody can deny it. He’s given so much money to this church, been a member for 20 years and now we are supposed to believe that he doesn’t really agree with what’s being taught? Yeah right. He would never win a general election. Not even against Alan Keyes at this point. lol

    • Nellie

      Hell NO about this:

The only question that remained was whether Obama would maintain enough support from pledged and super delegates to force Hillary to accept him as her VP. If so, he still had a chance to redeem himself and survive to run again another day.”

This guy belongs in the cell next to his benefactor Tony Rezko and NOWHERE NEAR the levers of governance in ANY capacity.

  • PMS

If events were to happen as you suggest, there’s no way in hell Barack gets the VP slot. He’s toxic in the GE.

The big question is whether or not Polosi and Dean want everyone to drink the Obamatown kool-aid.

    • flyarm

May I suggest people get on their phones today and tell Pelosi ..you will never drink the kool aide..I have already called her office and I will call each and every day this week if need be..and I have asked everyone in my internet groups to make that call today.

I was a 2004 delegate for my state of Florida..I told her office today, that I know it is Obama , Dean and herself that do not want my vote to count before the convention.
I told her now many of us in Florida understand why Dean was trying to shove a caucus down our throats since the bill was signed last May , that made Florida the first state in the nation to abolish DRE voting machines and mandate Voter Verified Paper Ballots..but also changed our Primary Date that was tagged onto the voting machine bill by the republicans.
Instead of Dean applauding our citizens who fought for that bill and out up their own money and time,..oh the time..and dedication..he punished us..but he was oh so quick to push Caucus’s at us!!

Hmmm..I wonder why …we didn’t understsand it last spring ( May)..but I sure as hell get it now!

So I told Pelosi’s phone receptionist, do not count my vote or 1.7 million others now ..at their own peril. Because I, and 1.7 million will be telling she and Dean and Obama in November..no vote for our delegates, means no vote in November!

I heard a pundit say yesterday on the Sunday talk shows..that Pelosi and Dean think they can’t piss off the “One day Democrats” Obama has brought to the party, they are sure they will get the 50+ women to stay with the party..well I have another story for them..I will put all the money I have, until now, and what i would have put to the GE, to any candidate that opposes Nancy Pelosi!

If she thought her table was empty before, I have news for her..and a new table.

I would gladly set it for her!

      One damn mad Floridian.

      • mathomas

I called both Pelosis numbers today, and told her I will never vote for Obama. She definitely heard from me. I’ve emailed several of my friends, and called my mom this morning, and asked them to call her as well.

      • bert

“that Pelosi and Dean think they can’t piss off the “One day Democrats” Obama has brought to the party,”

Most of those one day Dems would not have voted Democratic in the general anyway. And those that might have will think twice about after Rev. Wright. In other words, Dean and Pelosi are thinking about one-fourth of the one day Dems.

It is time Dean and Pelosi start thinking about what the 100% of actual loyal and long time Democrats want, and what real Dems think and want and how real Dems are going to vote before they end up with no Party to think about at all.

        • flyarm

that was my point calling them ” one day democrats!!”

They are deliberately voting in our primary and none of them will vote in the GE for the dems..or very few.

ans furthermore..i don’t want any damn “one day democrat” picking the democratic nominee!

      • BloggerBoyz

I love how they think only 50+ women are upset.I’m a guy in my 20′s and all the women I know my age are for Hillary (except one) and vowing they’ll never vote for Obama. None of them have ever voted Republican, but they’re considering it now due to the behavior of Obama and the Democatic Establisment. And none of the damn Democrats for a day will be voting for Obama either.

  • Dora Ratquila

He already rejected the VP post and the Democratic Party wouldn’t want to be called the party of racists by nominating him. BO’s political career is cooked. He will probably stay in the Senate – but that’s about it. One can’t will 20 years of “association” with a white-damning anti-Semite to go away in 20 seconds. Or even 20 days.

  • Kefa

Edward’s good will would be big.

  • http://wiebs47 Colleen

This is a beautiful message of hope becoming reality. thanks for the posting. It made my day!

  • Kefa

Here it is from the show…

    …………..MATTHEWS: Richard Stengel?

Mr. STENGEL: John Edwards. Senator John Edwards–remember him?–who’s been
conspicuously silent since he dropped out of the race, will endorse a
Democratic candidate probably before North Carolina, certainly before North
Carolina, possible before Pennsylvania. And our own Mark Halpern on the page
says it’s going to be Senator Hillary Clinton.

    Stick a fork in him.

    • mostest

Not so fast with “sticking a fork in him.”

Edward’s supporters were essentially Hillary’s supporters, middle class demos. Obama’s “followers” are AAs and Nader voters. So, I don’t see how Hill gains too much, unless it is the intangible/goodwill aspect.

      I just don’t know.

Obama will be “forked” by Rev. Wright. How can the president of the US be friends with a man who says “God Damn America?” It just can’t be.

  • lisadawn82

Let’s not get cocky. That’s one sure way of losing an election.

    • mimi

I agree. So far no signs of the lasting effect of Wright. The Hillary-haters and the Kool-Aid drinkers are just that zonked out.

We need to keep hitting at Obama’s lack of credentials: he has never been to Europe or Latin America, so how do his foreign policy credentials match Hillary’s? Over at http://www.savagepolitics.com there’s an interesting article on Hillary and her Irish legacy. We need to get video tape of her visits and post them.

The lies about his campaign being funded ONLY by grassroots voters. Time to show voters the money!

Also the lie about him being in the middle of his US Senate race when he made his speech on the war. Michelle has repeated that lie as late as last Thursday in PA. And if he was SO against the war, how does he explain his votes in the Senate.

Add Wright to this ever growing boiling cauldron and we’re on the right track. But let’s not count our chickens before they hatch.

      • Mary

Actually, there IS a sign of “effect.”

Gallup national daily tracking poll now shows Hillary leading 47/45, and a week ago, Obama was ahead by 8 points.

        He’s dropping like a rock.

        • BloggerBoyz

And the number of Clinton supporters who won’t vote for him jumped 15% per Gallup/Rasmussen

  • Alibe

I am a white man. I have been an active member of the KKK. I have donated tens of thousands of dollars to this organization. Just because I am a member, I can not be held responsible for what the heads of the KKK say. That is un-American. Guilt by association is not fair. I never knew the KKK was racist. They are just like old Uncles that say crazy things. I must have been absent when they talked about racism, anyway. I am not a racist. How dare you think that. And besides my opponent is responsible for bringing this up. It never would have been the right wing doing this because they say they like me. It is all her fault. She is divisive. I am all for unity.

The Ku Klux Klan was an important but unacknowledged part of the Democratic coalition at that time
(1928). The KKK and its sympathizers turned, with full force and shameless libel, against (New York Governor and Democratic nominee for President) Smith. One widely circulated flier showed a picture of the construction then underway on the Holland Tunnel and identified it as a secret passageway for Smith to bring the Pope to Washington to rule.

People the cockiness has to stop and stop now! This isn’t over yet and Obama’s Campaign managers are NOT going to go down without a fight!

Focus as always needs to be on the vast array of Obama’s complete failures and not just his one on FAITH!

Some are seeming to be like Obama supporters, and we need to instead stay the course of direction and focus, and not on the course of self distruction!

By claiming victory prematurely, we lose! We need to keep fighting the MEDIA, SUPER-DELEGATES AND THE DNP LEADERS on all aspects of the Obama failures and keep them front and center!

Obama seeking Democrats for a day in PA needs to be stopped! Clinton has to heal the wounds now completely proven to be made by Obama and having a celebration and gloating will not do that!

Show the country that Clinton supporters are steadfast and strong and most of all focused! Do not give any opening for the other candidate to swing the attention somehow to his advantage and by claiming an early knock out by Obama was foolish, for Clinton supporters to do so now is foolish, keep pressure going and keep highlighting ALL the failures that make Obama a poor candidate is the only way to go!

Thank you and let’s work on PA in getting Clinton an 85% victory count!

Phone the DNP and have Obama’s plea for Independants and Republicans to become Democrats for a day STOPPED NOW!!!!!!!!

This will prove who the voters really want as President once and for all, like California, Texas, NY, Mass., Ohio, Michigan, Florida, Arkansas, NJ, Nevada where voters spoke, not like states with stacked caucus’s!

This needs to be handled quickly and maybe it won’t be so bad. If Edwards came out and endorsed Hillary as the candidate of the people; If the DLC went to Obama and told him to withdraw from the race tomorrow and to enthusiastically support Hillary and ask his supporters to do the same we may have a chance this fall. Obama and Tom Dashel are going to take the whole Democratic Party down.

Not just in the presidential but the whole democratic ticket is at risk. The republicans are going to paint us as democrats as the G.. D.. America Party . The party who sanctimoniously condemns alleged voter disenfranchisement by republicans while disenfranchising over a million voters, two whole states worth.
You heard Nuit last weekend if you listened. He is not surprised by the Rev. Wright he says, “isn’t that what the left is all about, they all hate America first”. Do any of you think Nuit is a dummy whose ideas the republican party will disregard?

Just think of the ads: McCain saluting in his uniform, with a split screen of Obama’s preacher beside him. “Why does Barack Obama hate America?” will be the refrain.

POLL: Jeremiah Wright a Liability for Barack Obama and for Democrats

    # 44% of Democrats claim Wright’s comments make them less likely to vote for Obama
    # 42% believe Obama should resign from his church; only 40% believe he should not

Obama sure picked a winner. Obviously he would. He’s been Wright from day one. His judgment is impeccable he is here to unite Americans.

All Obama’s America unite us to denouce America. Yes we can!

Can we blame all of America’s problems on Whites? Yes we can!

Can we blame America for Pearl Harbor? Yes we can!

Can we blame America for 9/11? Yes we can!

Bill Press today: “Obama cancelled having the Rev. Wright speak at the announcement of his candidacy, I think that’s a good sign!”

Yep, because cutting off your spiritual leader just before you step into the spotlight is a real sign of character.

Ed Schultz today: “actions speak louder than words! Where are the videos of Barack Obama at this church? There aren’t any! Where are the speeches by Obama that show he absorbed Rev. Wright’s teachings? There arent’ any!”

Actions speak louder than words- so Schultz asks for proof in…words. Where are the speeches? Just wait, Big Eddie. Just you wait.

On Washington Journal this morning, a caller asks an Obamabot from the Nation “what if a guy went to KKK meetings for twenty years, would you believe him if he said he didnt agree with the teachings of that group?”

Guest: “Um, I’m not aware of that happening. I don’t know what you are talking about. ”

Caller cut off, guest continues to act incredulous.

Twenty minutes later, another caller says “I can’t believe you didn’t get what that other caller was saying about the KKK, he was comparing it to Obama’s church…”

Guest: “Well, I honestly didn’t get that at all. And I think it’s ridiculous comparing a large MAINSTREAM CHURCH to the KKK….”

Seriously. It’s getting really, really dumb out there.

Press, Schultz, Miller, Rhoades, Matthews, Olbermann, all of them will keep trying if only to try and save their own over blown egos. But you cannot deny the poll results. I wonder if they have seen those yet?

    • TeakWoodKite

shhhhh! Quiet…can’t you tell Obama is about to use his sand wedge? It’s the famous Makaka sand wedge club, … He carefully lines up on the ball..now checking which way the wind is blowing…his head is down…the sand trap is on the Wright side of the green.. Michelle moves the post… he swings…. OH no! It got caught on the lip of The GOD DAM America sand trap…he missed !! He will triple boogey it ,but it looks like he take “democrat for Day the penality” and just drop the ball…

And now from our sponsers another Makaka instant replay and from the makers of NAFTA we will be and the US Attorney’s office of Chicago, right back.

Well, we can only hope at this point, yes.! But the little boy in blue is still trouble in my viewpoint. But I do hope that you are correct in your projection.

  • fooj

It’s no wonder MLK’s son hasn’t endorsed Little Lord Obama. Authenticity is key.

    • Fred C. Dobbs

      Perhaps.

    • Hope

Fooj: that’s very interesting, I didn’t know that. That speaks volumes.

Here’s a copy of a letter MLK III sent to Edwards:

        January 20, 2008
        The Honorable John R. Edwards
        410 Market Street
        Suite 400
        Chapel Hill, NC 27516
        Dear Senator Edwards:
It was good meeting with you yesterday and discussing my father’s legacy. On the day when the nation will honor my father, I wanted to follow up with a personal note.
There has been, and will continue to be, a lot of back and forth in the political arena over my father’s legacy. It is a commentary on the breadth and depth of his impact that so many people want to claim his legacy. I am concerned that we do not blur the lines and obscure the truth about what he stood for: speaking up for justice for those who have no voice.
I appreciate that on the major issues of health care, the environment, and the economy, you have framed the issues for what they are – a struggle for justice. And, you have almost single-handedly made poverty an issue in this election.
You know as well as anyone that the 37 million people living in poverty have no voice in our system. They don’t have lobbyists in Washington and they don’t get to go to lunch with members of Congress. Speaking up for them is not politically convenient. But, it is the right thing to do.
I am disturbed by how little attention the topic of economic justice has received during this campaign. I want to challenge all candidates to follow your lead, and speak up loudly and forcefully on the issue of economic justice in America.
From our conversation yesterday, I know this is personal for you. I know you know what it means to come from nothing. I know you know what it means to get the opportunities you need to build a better life. And, I know you know that injustice is alive and well in America, because millions of people will never get the same opportunities you had.
I believe that now, more than ever, we need a leader who wakes up every morning with the knowledge of that injustice in the forefront of their minds, and who knows that when we commit ourselves to a cause as a nation, we can make major strides in our own lifetimes. My father was not driven by an illusory vision of a perfect society. He was driven by the certain knowledge that when people of good faith and strong principles commit to making things better, we can change hearts, we can change minds, and we can change lives.
So, I urge you: keep going. Ignore the pundits, who think this is a horserace, not a fight for justice. My dad was a fighter. As a friend and a believer in my father’s words that injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere, I say to you: keep going. Keep fighting. My father would be proud.
        Sincerely,
        Martin L. King, III

The NAACP invited Edwards to speak on MLK Day. Little Lord Obama caught wind of it and threw a hissy fit. Edwards (class act that he is) rescheduled his speech stating that this was a special day to honor King and he didn’t want controversy swirling around it. I’m paraphrasing here…but I’m sure you get the gist.

I love happy ending, and I hope the Edwards endorsement comes through, and I hope if that happens, Hillary offers him the VP spot! He would be great and he would be ready on day 1. If not that job, I would like to see him on the Supreme Court. He could be a new Justice Douglas, and a standard bearer for the liberals/progressives!

Now all we all have to do is work to make this dream reality.

  • Palomino

“The only question that remained was whether Obama would maintain enough support from pledged and super delegates to force Hillary to accept him as her VP. If so, he still had a chance to redeem himself and survive to run again another day”: As it turned out, Hillary was pleased and proud to announce that former Congressman Harold Ford Jr. of Tennessee had accepted her VP offer. Thus Ford–a TRUE target of racism, who had narrowly lost his senate bid in 2004 because of a white-racist advertising campaign–survived to make history as the first African American to run as his party’s vice presidential nominee. As for Barack and Michelle Obama, they repaired to their favorite Chicago church, where their pastor led the congregation in a rousing version of “God Damn America.”

As a black male I must admit it is hard to see Obama go out this way. I am a Clinton support, just to let you know. I always had an uneasy feeling that Obama was hiding something from us. Was he stupid or what? His preacher has a potty mouth and my grandmother would roll in her grave if she heard such a sermon that disrespect the military service of my grandfather, father, uncle, aunt, and brother. Theses are words that truly hurt. I know that we as black people have to continue to fight hard for justice and equality. But, I must say that we as Americans have to fight hard for justice and equality for all. Times are changing. This is the becoming the country of the haves and the have nots. (THanks Bush!) Many people were perplexed when I stood for Hillary at my caucus. I was the only black person on that side of the room. I had to go with my feelings. Black and white Obama’s folks looked at me as if I was crazy. I told some of Obama supports that “I just don’t know the guy .” I felt that Obama was just a little immature to be running for POTUS and YES I LOOKED AT HIS WEB PAGE. Obama supporters could not answer my questions about who he was and where he stood on any issue. They just referred me to his web page. I really can not see Obama in the GE. I would vote for him if he is the nom. (democratic pride) but, I would just hate to see McCain running ad about Obama’s preacher-mentor-spiritual advisor because it gives the impression that all black preachers are like Mr. Wright. That’s just bad for America.

You know, the whole thing is unfortunate. As much as I have come to dislike/distrust Obama since this has played out, if he had stayed in the Senate, built up his resume, shed some of his unsavory associations, figured out what he’s doing, become a leader, and become the candidate his supporters imagine he is now, he would have been a good candidate for 2016.

      • http://www.oohnuance.blogspot.com madamab

I agree with this. He does have a lot of potential, but he doesn’t have the resume to go with it, plus he has a lot of unsavory connections that are coming to light. His massive ego got in the way of his judgment.

Despite what he says about not running again, I am sure that he will. Maybe next time around he will be ready for primetime.

        • BloggerBoyz

I don’t know. This stuff is out there now and it would take some pretty amazing accomplishments to make it go away, plus this campaign has been incredibly divisive. By jumping in prematurely, alienating so many Democrats, and screwing up so bad, he may have damaged himself beyond repair. If he had waited, he would have coasted to the nom in 2016, but I don’t know if he can come back from this now. It’s like Kennedy, he jumped in too soon and divided the party too much, and that was the end of him. If he had waited, different story.

“Because you know you are a Shooting Star,
And everyone will love just as long as you are!”

  • Dora Ratquila

When his two-decade-long association with the Rev. Wright becomes known to most of America, there will be a significant defection of delegates from the Obama camp. Beyond ideology (and fighting for what is right), these people will be concerned with their own political survival. Siding with a radical demagogue who personifies the best and the worst of a pompous politician who thinks he is God’s gift to the Capitol – and that is what Barack Obama is and nothing more – is simply not right. And not smart either. And in this age of Youtube, our friends from the radical right will exhaust every opportunity to make sure that the people don’t forget about these “God damn America” comments.

    you people are funny…and silly.

    “stick a fork in him he’s cooked”…lol

ok. we’ll see when BHO is standing on the steps being sworn in. just because you’ve found something to swiftboat his incredible campaign with doesn’t mean he’s politically finished.
