One’s jaw drops when reading this paragraph in the New Yorker‘s profile of Michelle Obama:

From these bleak generalities, Obama moves into specific complaints. Used to be, she will say, that you could count on a decent education in the neighborhood. But now there are all these charter schools and magnet schools that you have to “finagle” to get into. (Obama herself attended a magnet school, but never mind.) Health care is out of reach [she should know: she earns over $300,000 at her sinecure at The University of Chicago Hospitals] (“Let me tell you, don’t get sick in America”), pensions are disappearing, college is too expensive, and even if you can figure out a way to go to college you won’t be able to recoup the cost of the degree in many of the professions for which you needed it in the first place. “You’re looking at a young couple that’s just a few years out of debt,” Obama said. “See, because, we went to those good schools, and we didn’t have trust funds. I’m still waiting for Barack’s trust fund. Especially after I heard that Dick Cheney was s’posed to be a relative or something. Give us something here!” (emphasis added)

“Give us something here.”  Where does one begin with this exhortation:  with its unrestrained sense of entitlement; with its complete and utter lack of tact; with its repelling shrillness; with its rank hypocrisy?  The statement, I understand, has been uttered in at least three locations: a ballroom at The University of South Carolina; the Pee Dee Union, an Art Gallery in South Carolina; and the auditorium of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin.  Michelle has no qualms begging strangers from all corners of this country for “something.”  But even worse, before Michelle Obama begs her audience to “give” her and her husband “something,” she insults them.  I quote the New Yorker profile:

Obama begins with a broad assessment of life in America in 2008, and life is not good: we’re a divided country, we’re a country that is “just downright mean,” we are “guided by fear,” we’re a nation of cynics, sloths, and complacents. (emphasis added)

Michelle should view herself in the mirror, for she and not the ordinary Americans she berates is the sloth who has become complacent with begging  “a nation of cynics, sloths and complacents” for a vaguely defined “something.”

I detest Michelle Obama’s sense of entitlement.  Here she is referring to Americans as complacent sloths, when she and her family enjoy luxuries unavailable to the majority of Americans.  When will she cease making her various demands?  What else does Michelle Obama need?

Michelle and her family, according to various reports, enjoy a lifestyle only the wealthy can afford.

A Diet of Expensive, Fresh, Organic Food and Expensive Pediatricians

Then, having given thoughtful but boilerplate responses most of the morning, Obama suddenly departed from her script. It was the most animated I saw her on the campaign trail. “You know,” she said, “in my household, over the last year we have just shifted to organic for this very reason. I mean, I saw just a moment in my nine-year-old’s life–we have a good pediatrician, who is very focussed on childhood obesity, and there was a period where he was, like, `Mmm, she’s tipping the scale.’ So we started looking through our cabinets. . . . You know, you’ve got fast food on Saturday, a couple days a week you don’t get home. The leftovers, good, not the third day! . . . So that whole notion of cooking on Sunday is out. . . . And the notion of trying to think about a lunch every day! . . . So you grab the Lunchables, right? And the fruit-juice-box thing, and we think–we think–that’s juice. And you start reading the labels and you realize there’s high-fructose corn syrup in everything we’re eating. Every jelly, every juice. Everything that’s in a bottle or a package is like poison in a way that most people don’t even know. . . . Now we’re keeping, like, a bowl of fresh fruit in the house. But you have to go to the fruit stand a couple of times a week to keep that fruit fresh enough that a six-year-old–she’s not gonna eat the pruney grape, you know. At that point it’s, like, `Eww!’ She’s not gonna eat the brown banana or the shrivelledy-up things. It’s got to be fresh for them to want it. Who’s got time to go to the fruit stand? Who can afford it, first of all?”

Yes, Michelle, who can afford expensive, fresh, organic food?  And who can afford a pediatrician who specializes in childhood obesity?  You should know this, Michelle.  After all, you served on the Board of TreeHouse Foods, a company that distributes canned and processed foods to superstores such as WAL-MART, for two years.  While you and other members of the Board of TreeHouse marketed and distributed food with little to no nutritional value to middle class families, your lucrative sinecure with the WAL-MART ally netted $51,200 in 2006.  You are also in possession of 2,266 shares of TreeHouse stock, stock whose whose value will only increase in value if more and more complacent sloths consume processed pickles, soups, infant food and non-dairy items.  But even worse, you were appointed to the Board of TreeHouse in 2005, just after your husband was elected to the US Senate, even though you lacked experience in the private sector.  I guess TreeHouse was obligated to “give you something.”

And you would also know about child obesity and nutrition.  After all, you are presently on leave from The University of Chicago Hospitals, where you were appointed to the position of Vice President for Community and External Affairs on 9 May 2005, four months after your husband was sworn into the US Senate.  Not coincidentally, your salary nearly tripled after your husband became a US Senator.  Was this a result of his willingness to submit earmark requests on your employer’s behalf?  “Give me” a salary increase, the University of Chicago Hospitals, and my husband the US Senator will “give us something here.”  But no, we will not provide free health care to all the poor families on the South Side of Chicago whose children, some of whom are obese, only have access to food that lacks nutritional value.  In fact, if the parents of these children lack health insurance, we will overcharge them for any services we may provide.  Yes, we are ostensibly a not-for-profit hospital that has earned and continues to earn millions of dollars of profits, but I want my inflated salary.  “Give us something here:” give us an earmark, a government handout, Barack; give us money, uninsured; give me a salary over $300,000.  “Give me, give me, give me,” says corporate and government welfare queen Michelle Obama.

The Assistance of Those Who Work in the “Helping Industry”

Michelle Obama, according to the New Yorker, employs a full-time housekeeper and a personal trainer she visits four times every week.  She also employs a landscaper to maintain the yard of the home a man named Rezko helped finance.  “Give me something” Michelle Obama is quite used to receiving the assistance of those who work in what she derisively called “the helping industry”.  In fact, she believes more citizens should join the industry whose services she regularly exploits, even though her sinecures at TreeHouse Foods and The University of Chicago Hospitals do not require physical exertion or, for that matter, any real effort.  While campaigning in economically depressed Zanesville, Ohio, Michelle Obama exhorted women to pursue jobs in the service industry.  Perhaps Austin Goolsbee, Obama’s NAFTA advocate, advised her on his goal to turn the United States into one grand service economy before she met Ohio voters.

“Don’t go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we’re encouraging our young people to do that.”

One wonders who comprises Michelle Obama’s “we.”  Does this “we” include the residents of Zanesville, Ohio, whose incomes average $37,192 per annum, or does it include the likes of Michelle Obama, who undertook a lucrative position as the Sidney Austin law firm, where she worked on corporate problems such as trademark and copyright cases.  Is only Michelle Obama allowed to enjoy the blandishments of corporate America?  Is only Michelle Obama, a woman who now enjoys access to government and corporate welfare after earning a high salary in the world of corporate law, entitled to the services of the “helping industry?”   Is only Michelle Obama entitled to enjoy a red-carpet lifestyle that also includes $10,000 a year for piano lessons and summer camps for her daughters, who are also sustained by the “helping industry” for which Michelle Obama is recruiting in rural areas such as Zanesville, Ohio?  Breathtaking is the audacity of a woman who exploits the position of role model to which she was appointed in order to exacerbate class stratification to the benefit of her and those who enjoy the services of the “helping industry.”  Michelle Obama to Zanesville, Ohio:  stay in the helping industry, take the income cut, and “GIVE US SOMETHING HERE.”

Rezko Cash and the Mansion Rezko Gave Her

Michelle needs the assistance of piano teachers, camp counselors, housekeepers, landscapers and other members of the “helping industry” in order to run her house.  She also needed the financial assistance of indicted slumlord and political fixer Antion “Tony” Rezko in order to purchase the stately mansion she, her husband and her two children inhabit:  Rezko purchased the yard of the home, thereby enabling the Obamas to purchase the mansion to which Rezko’s lot is attached, and Obama toured the mansion with Rezko, whose advice and financial assistance he sought.  Even though he most probably knew Rezko could not manage the various Rezmar properties he owned in Obama’s state Senate district, he enlisted Rezko’s financial support and real estate expertise nonetheless.  I quote:

Obama said in the interview Monday that he was unaware of the scope of properties owned by Rezmar or the problems surrounding them. He said none of the affected residents personally sought his help and that aides at his state Senate district office did not recall any inquiries. Still, he said it was “possible” that during his tenure in the legislature that a constituent may have written or called his office “saying, ‘We’re in a building, and we’re unhappy with the service here.'”

“Give us something here,” Rezko.  And give Rezko did.  In fact, Rezko gave over $250,000 to Obama for his various political races.  But “Give Me Something” Michelle Obama wanted more; she wanted a mansion she could not afford.  Besides, Rezko was already a part of the government welfare program Obama helped implement on Rezko’s behalf while working as a state Senator in Illinois.

Now it was time for Rezko to reciprocate, for “Give Me Something” Michelle wanted a mansion she could not afford.  Barack did not have a trust fund, but he sure had Rezko.  So Rezko obliged and helped Michelle Obama buy her house, a house she could not run without the helping industry she hopes to expand in Zanesville, Ohio, and without Rezko’s cash.

Michelle, at least Hillary can afford her own house; Hillary did not have to enlist the support of a slumlord who cannot run heat in his houses in order to run and purchase her house.  And at least Hillary earned her status as a role model.  You were appointed to your positions, and role models do not rely on Rezko and on various forms of government welfare to purchase their homes.  Yes, you returned to your South Side roots when you enlisted Rezko’s support and the cash Rezko generated with the government welfare program your husband created for Rezko’s properties.  But those South Side roots are not fit for a First Lady, unless, of course, that First Lady views government as a welfare program that just “Gives Us Something Here.”  Go back to Rezko’s mansion and ask your full-time housekeeper to run your own house, Michelle.  For if you cannot run Rezko’s house, I do not know how you can run the White House.  Some role model you are, you corporate and government welfare queen.

I Am Only Proud of My Country If You Give Me Something

But “Give Me Something” Michelle is bent on obtaining the top prize of the White House, where she will preside over a whole country that will become her personal “helping industry.”  And with her arrogance, her insatiable appetite for power and her overblown sense of entitlement, she will do and say anything to secure the object of her desire.  I quote:

Michelle Obama proclaimed yesterday that for “the first time” in her adult life,” she was proud of America, as she spoke during a rally to support her husband’s presidential bid.

While Barack Obama spent yesterday deflecting accusations from Hillary Clinton’s campaign of “plagiarizing” part of a speech delivered in 2006 by Bay State Gov. Deval Patrick, Mrs. Obama made her own headlines.

“Hope is making a comeback and, let me tell you, for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country. Not just because Barack is doing well, but I think people are hungry for change,” she said during a rally in downtown Milwaukee.

Or perhaps you are hungry for yet another house you cannot afford.  And this time, it will be fully funded by government welfare: no Rezko cash will be necessary.  But you will denigrate the government on which you have relied and intend to rely in order to emotionally manipulate voters to place you and your husband in the White House.  Or perhaps it is not emotional manipulation; perhaps you are sincere when you claim you are only really proud of your country if and only if you have the chance to preside over it as the queen who possesses the grandest government handout of them all: the White House.   “Give us something here.”  Give us your vote.  Give it all to me, for I am Michelle Obama, the most arrogant woman who have ever graced this planet.  And if you do not “give me something here,” I will race bait and emotionally manipulate African-American voters to get what I want.  Besides, I really hate my country, and I plan to divide it.  But if you elect my husband, I can pretend to actually love it.

And no, I will not support Hillary Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.  I will also denigrate Bill Clinton and distort his words if he dares stand in my way as I climb the social ladder.  For this about me: ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME.  And no, Michelle, you are in no way similar to Bill Clinton, for he, unlike you, actually cares about people.  Bill, Michelle, actually cares about New Orleans: he helps others build houses, while you let them wallow in Rezko’s squalor as you pursue your Rezko mansion and the White House.  Bill, Michelle, has integrity.  All you have is shameless, unmitigated ambition.  I quote:

Chicago’s veteran political consultant and pundit Joe Novak agrees, saying: “She [Michelle] is now motivated more by personal gain than by social consciousness.

“She saw her opportunities, and she took them.”

“Give us something here,” or I will take it.  That is the story of Michelle Obama, an overfacilitated, supercilious woman who feels entitled to trample over children, hospital patients, occupants of lower income housing, the taxpayers of Chicago, consumers of processed food, members of the “helping industry,” working class voters, African-Americans, political fixers such a Antoin “Tony” Rezko and even Bill and Hillary Clinton in order to become the next First Lady.  Will all the status, prestige and services of the White House be enough for the upwardly mobile Michelle Obama?  I doubt it.  Nothing seems to satisfy the queen of government and corporate welfare who believes it is appropriate to scream “GIVE US SOMETHING HERE” when engaging with complete strangers.  Only one adjective describes “Give Me Something” Michelle Obama and her husband: arrogant.

  • Mark Jones

I find that Michelle Obama sometimes seems attractive, but also comes across, at times, as an arrogant, spoiled and immature person. I was impressed and appreciative of her husband until I learned more about his character and associates.

I was curious and checked Michelle’s senior thesis. Her topic is very interesting. Her manner of developing the ideas seems somewhat weak and thin. I did empathize with Michelle when she described feeling that she had not really felt a sense of belonging at Princeton, and was always on the periphery. It caused me to reflect more about the divide of race and how it can be bridged. The question of how university life affects the empathy of blacks toward less fortunate blacks, is certainly of importance.

Why does she take as a given that she can only be loyal to her own people by putting them above all other people? Doesn’t that assumption come across as a barrier that pushes away people who are not black? It seems that this way of thinking is a wall.

I am interested in ways that peoples can celebrate and share their differences, instead of always seeing them as a problem.

I can’t believe she specifically told a group of women to stay in low-paying pink-collar jobs. It would have been bad enough if she told a mixed group of middle-income people to do what she didn’t do and go into a service career. But to blithely gloss over centuries of discrimination by urging women to stay in the same jobs that they have been forcibly relegated to for centuries — and in the context of a campaign against the only woman who ever had a chance at the presidency — the ignorance boggles the mind.

Is there any room in that mansion, or a bit of organic fruit perhaps, for Obama’s poor grandmother in Africa, who lives “in a tiny hut without running water or electricity?”

We were supposed to be sympathetic to Obama, his poor upbringing, his valiant struggle. We were supposed to vote for him, without considering his experience, expertise or character because of this sympathy.

And yet apparently the Obamas’ sympathies do not extend beyond their own smug little lives.

  • Well, after reading the New Yorker piece on her — it’s scarier than I thought. She’s heartless, in it for herself, could care less about our Nation’s history, her own “people”–

    and ummm…

No wonder they used all those plastic signs out here in California–it was only last year she discovered “organic” food, and worse than that she wears Mink.

Their segregationist tactics worry me as well. Just the other day there was an incident in the press (LAT) about a racist act against kids at a high school in Malibu. Segregationism has no place here. Not after all that has been fought for since President Lincoln’s time.

Our country cannot afford to split along racial lines given the issues we face globally in terms of poverty and climate change. The Obama’s have displayed themselves as selfish, uncaring and upwardly mobile in an era that won’t accept that kind of thinking from politicians or corporate heads anymore. All ethnicities are living in this tent city in Ontario.

Truthteller, actually it is a pretty tame article vs what really could a have been said, with more truths about her! Guess some just don’t care for hearing reality!

Here is where you can get a look at her Princeton Thesis!

      • i will consult the princeton thesis soon. i also hear michelle obama has a personal clothing designer. GIVE US SOMETHING HERE.

  • It’sNotMe

Well, don’tcha know…ONLY AA people are poor and can’t afford college and all the luxuries of the wealthy?

Did you know MO has her own clothing designer in Chicago? Why does MO, a SENATOR’S wife, NEED a clothing designer? Here’s a link:

Life is very tough for MO, isn’t it?

    • i guess michelle feels entitled to more. thank you for alerting me to michelle obama’s personal clothing designer. i hear michelle enjoys wearing mink.

    • Nancy H. Armstrong

When Hillary was in Arkansas she had a seamstress that made her clothes. I always wondered why but never denigrated her for it. It turns out she is very short like I am.

Matter of fact we are built pretty much the same. I would have loved to have my clothes made but instead I had them altered. I have always had to alter my clothes.I will admit when I worked I had several suits made for me because it was just too hard to buy clothes off the rack.

  • Marjorie

truthteller-nice analysis of the article. You picked up on the inferences in what Lauren Collins wrote-Collins sliced and diced Michelle with a smile of benign pleasantness. The larger point Collins was making was Michelle’s dishonesty-in all probability her education at Princeton and at Harvard was paid for by the taxpayers and she was admitted as part of the quota system. Her ambition cannot be denied. She talked about her life in a televised “look at me” pep rally she gave in Iowa-how she was told she couldn’t get into Princeton, but she persevered and got what she wanted, despite growing up in poverty. The audience was completely won over, and it was the beginning of the romantic tale of the couple,AA, winning against the odds of racism. I was stunned at the naivete of the audience.
Collins’ comparison between Michelle and poverty in the rest of the U.S. is suggested, and more powerful than specifically pointing it out. Because that isn’t the larger point. The larger point is M. did get an education and did nothing for the people she talked of as her own people.
Neither of the Obamas appear to be intellectual or well read, but rather their concerns appear to be in living the good life. If they were white, they would be considered political dishonest and this would be more obvious to others, e.g., the audience in Iowa. But as they are AA, this is overlooked.
MLK wanted something more modest-someday we will be judged, not by the color of our skin, but by our actions. The Obamas have corrupted his vision.

No kidding. According to MO she only got to go a couple of sleepovers in her time. She also mentions the week long vacation she took as a kid every summer.

We were poor compared to her family, we had 5 kids, two with severe disabilities. My mother had a Christmas Club that she saved every extra dime in so we would have Christmas gifts. Dad was the only one who worked. I babysat and other things to nuy my own clothes, taking some stress off dad. We didn’t even buy our first TV, it was given to us when a family friend bought his color tv. I have one birthday that stands out ; it was a sleepover at a friend’s house…we were both born on the same day.

Despite a hard younger life I am not bitter. I have my volunteer activities (I’ve always volunteered) that I do now that I no longer work.
My husband and I do okay. We can invest outside of his 401(k) and stock offerings from his company. But we don’t even come close to making what MO does.

What does she do besides “scrape together $10,000 a year for dance lessons, etc…?

MO needs to get the chip off her shoulders. She needs to stop thinking that she deserves reparations for that is how I see her….Get off your high horse MO noone wants to hear it anymore.

Sorry to be personal, but Michelle Obama reminds me of my sister.

In the 1970’s she was divorced; she earned a $40,000 salary (higher that the average family income for a family of four); she got the family home with a GI mortgage; she got alimony until her children were 18 and she didn’t marry; she got child support for three children of $150/month for each child.

“Im poor, I’m poor,” she used to cry.

My mother and I cringed in embarrassment.

“You are not poor,” my mother used to say, “you don’t know what poor is.”

  • mimi

There’s a part of me that would like to defend Michelle Obama. But I think there is a deep disconnect between reality and the ideology she has formed over the years. Maybe in the beginning, as they struggled to make it, coming from both their backgrounds, she could make statements like this. But not today. And I find this troubling. That she is unable to step outside of ideological beliefs, look around her home, and the fact that she is trying to balance a checkbook from a 6-figure income and simply not realize: how far both she and Barack have come. How different her life is from many working class people in general and certainly most AAs and latinos. That she can’t stop herself and through her own intelligence realize that NO ONE is going to feel sorry for her as complains about having to scrape together $10,000 for ballet and music lessons for the kids.

Let me be even more specific, I’m unemployed, my sister retired, husband on pension and we helped my nephew by paying for a dance class, and an art class for his twin daughters. Money that we did not have. That came out of health care bills (we have no insurance), because the kids have a bit of talent that we want to encourage in the hopes that they can earn scholarships in the future. All of us at retiriement age with no savings and even I wouldn’t complain to the single mothers in my community who are working minimum wage jobs struggling to raise kids alone. Because I’m better off than they are and I understand that.

    So what’s her point?

Sure, we do need teachers. But is that something she’s steering her own daughters into? Hey, it’s not too late for her to become a teacher. In NYC there’s a fellowship program that tries to lure professionals from the corporate sector into education in order to improve the quality of education.

At some point you have to LIVE your ideology. If you don’t, then expect people to call you on it. You simply can’t parade yourself across the stage of the American public and think that just because you’re black, that that in and of itself is enough. Would anybody feel sorry for Oprah if she did the same? At least O has the good sense to count her blessings in public. For all that MO and Bo feel that they have yet to accomplish, how stupid of them not to realize that to average Americans they are the EMBODIMENT OF THE AMERICAN DREAM.

So you see, Obama supporters like Cee, this isn’t about jealousy, (although, I’m sure some remarks are green around the edges), it’s about seeing passed the shrewdly put together public construct of 2 people: a Presidential Candidate and a First Lady-in-waiting, and wanting to see evidence that they are at least grounded in some sense of reality beyond these artfully drawn rhetorical speeches that are luring people into a what really boils down to a fraudulent persona.

If they really don’t get…. that they have made it, then what else don’t they get? And how does that make them any different from George and Laura Bush, Dick and Lynn Cheney who don’t get anything at all?

Say what you want about Hillary, she never postured about struggling to pay for ballet classes for Chelsea or complained about the woes of being a working mom. She understood that the American way of life had been good to them and her main goal was trying to secure that for others. In fact, that’s still her goal.

Pssst Cee, not jealous. Sorry to break it to you, but this is how some people see Ms. Obama. You may reduce it to jealousy all you want, but it won’t change the perception of her. And pssst, in a political race you need more than articles in Vogue and running on guilt.

    • chris

Cee, I can deal most of your rather unthinking and snyde comments. But to say I or anyone is jealous shows how YOU view the conversation through YOUR lenses.

I am not jealous of Michelle Obama, or other wealthy or powerful folks. Its quite dismissive of what I share here to say such a thing. But that seems typical of you lately.

I’m jealous of Prince, because I can’t play, compose and write like that, but his wealth is burdensome to him. The power of one’s name is not worth its cost.

Now, you may not have been directing that at me, but someone else. But, you don’t understand something. I have had access to better opportunities, but the costs on my soul and integrity wouldn’t let me take them. I have made much more than I do now and walked away when I realized it had to exploit someone to give me mine.

You should speak about Yourself in this context if you are worried about “jealousy”.

Snyping from your position shows your self and reflects nothing on mine.

TruthTeller you post what is seen, but never given NQ, until now.

I am watching “John Adam” and Abigail Adams

Long separations kept Abigail from her husband while he served the country they loved, as delegate to the Continental Congress, envoy abroad, elected officer under the Constitution. Her letters–pungent, witty, and vivid, spelled just as she spoke–detail her life in times of revolution. They tell the story of the woman who stayed at home to struggle with wartime shortages and inflation; to run the farm with a minimum of help; to teach four children when formal education was interrupted. Most of all, they tell of her loneliness without her “dearest Friend.” The “one single expression,” she said, “dwelt upon my mind and played about my Heart….”

She leaves her country a most remarkable record as patriot and First Lady, wife of one President and mother of another.

Working twice a hard I’d say.

    • Michelle Obama must also be vetted if she desires to serve as First Lady.

  • Mr.Murder

Those are some of her least flattering moments. Out of fairness to the topic, let the actions do the speaking.

People will make for their mind what they want to of this on either side of the debate.

As for the hospitals, they overcharge in the hope that settlements will still cover. There’s other reasons, of course, but that is a major one.

Not that is should be that way, but I guess we want a person who’s argued against providing coverage making that case for us in Michelle Obama’s instance.

    • Mr.Murder

*Not that it should be that way…

“Don’t go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we’re encouraging our young people to do that.”

    In short, stay poor.

Amazing that Michelle Obama has gotten a pass on the above. “Corporate” America, a code word for “capitalist.” In another time, this leftist would be called a Communist. Apparently to her, poverty is preferable to working for any corporation in America.

This is regressive politics, not progressive. And obviously, hypocritical. She isn’t making under forty thousand a year. Encouraging women to stay in traditional jobs that pay little while she works for a corporation and makes over $300,000 a year is callous beyond belief.

I for one not only do not want Mr. Obama in the White House, I don’t want Mrs. Obama there either.

    • i agree: michelle obama is OUT OF TOUCH.

    • simon

      In short, stay poor.

There is more to life than money, you know, some people DO dedicate their lives to the social good.

God forbid we get any more Dick Cheney’s…

All that business, and they can’t run the country, or a war.

      • allimom99

I’d be more likely to listen to her on this if SHE had ever done anything like this – in her position it just comes off as INCREDIBLY condescending, and won’t play any better in Scranton than it did in Zanesville, which as a Buckeye alum, I know well.

  • BloggerBoyz

Uh, are you kidding? The woman was making a joke, not “begging” for anything. Is it really necessary to attack the candidates’ spouses? And “welfare queen,” really? Not at all appropriate or helpful.

    • chris

      Marie Antoinette? Imelda Marcos? Anyone?
Do you so quickly forget what other “spouses” gained when their spouse became leader?

You missed the point of the post at the top, try reading it without your sneer.

To Michelle Obama – White House = Versailles.

(chomping on some cake)….you mean…we’ve seen this before? vuja de?

      • Fred C. Dobbs

        >>> Marie Antoinette? Imelda Marcos? Anyone?

You missed: Madam Chiang Kai-shek, Madam Ky (wife of Nguyen Kao-Ky, may they both burn in hell) and, my all-time least favorite US First Lady, Barbara Bush…a tie with Nancy Reagan.

        • chris

When Laura Bush was asked, early in the current reign, ‘what do you think about the criticisms of your husband in the press?’

“Oh, I don’t read those negative things.”

It explained everything! And it happened within weeks of them seizing our government in 2001.

      BloggerBoyz –

Yes, it is really necessary to respond to Michelle Obama’s hateful personality. Her behavior toward Pres. Bill Clinton is inexcusable.

Michelle Obama’s lack of graciousness alone should disqualify her as a representative of the U.S.

Michelle Obama is ungrateful for a free American ivy league education that she didn’t earn.

Her choosing to screw over African Americans through her career is reprehensible.

She has chosen to put herself in the political arena by stumping at arenas.

She’s an attorney, who chose to hurt people instead of helping them, so that she could make an easy fortune.

She and her hubby are bamboozlers and hoodwinkers and should be called out loudly and often. It is our civic duty.

    Question for America:

Do you want this woman, Michelle Obama, to be First Lady?

    • allimom99

      HELL NO

  • Mr.Murder

Arianna needs a fainting couch over Hillary.

She’s mad that Bill did business with people, having left office. In particular she’s mad at Bill helping a Canadian firm secure uraniaum.

(see the $31.3 million donation and additional $100 pledge to Bill Clinton’s foundation after he helped a Canadian mining mogul secure a massive uranium deal with Kazakhstan)?

    My reply there:

“Yes, such a pity Canada is getting nuclear fuel from efforts Bill Clinton made possible. Why can’t that fuel go somewhere other than a western allied neighbor?

Why should Canada be able to power itself with nuclear ability, and sell the extra oil they save to America?

Two big things he accomplished with that trip.

Bill Clinton as a civilian has done more for American than GWB in eight years with those above two items. Both made America safer and more prosperous”(competitive, hard to talk about prospecrity in Dubya’s recession).

  • myiq2xu

At Balloon Juice, John Cole interpreted a Ron Fournier article at Yahoo News accusing Obama of arrogance to mean that Fournier was calling Obama an “Uppity Negro.”

The title of Cole’s post is “Uppity Negro Alert.”

I thought this was very ironic because Cole thinks Hillary and her supporters blame all criticism on sexism and always “play the victim card.”

Apparently all criticism of Obama is racist.

  • Bees

Ugh. Michelle Obama’s personality is repulsive. She sure has a low opinion of Americans for someone who wants to live in the WH. I don’t like her one bit, and definitely don’t want to see her and her hateful husband anywhere near the WH.

    • Hope

Imagine that sour puss at the White House Easter egg hunt!

      • she would hoard all the eggs for herself, citing the student loans she had to repay.

and the eggs for her and her family would be organic and colored with natural dyes. but the eggs purchased at wal-mart would be reserved for the guests.

        • Mike Howell

          Truthteller –

          Student loans?!! Yeah, right.

  • I think MO might actually be more arrogant than her husband. If Hillary said and did the things that MO says and does, she’d be drawn and quartered (not sure what that is actually but sounds painful as hell). Great post. Informative and enraging.

    • blueasthesky

      From Wikipedia:

Until 1814, the full punishment for the crime of treason was to be hanged, drawn and quartered in that the condemned prisoner would be:
Dragged on a hurdle (a wooden frame) to the place of execution. (This is one possible meaning of drawn.)
Hanged by the neck for a short time or until almost dead. (hanged).
Disembowelled and emasculated and the genitalia and entrails burned before the condemned’s eyes (This is another meaning of drawn — see the reference to the Oxford English Dictionary below.)[2]
Beheaded and the body divided into four parts (quartered).
Typically, the resulting five parts (i.e. the four quarters of the body and the head) were gibbeted (put on public display) in different parts of the city, town, or, in famous cases, country, to deter would-be traitors who had not seen the execution. After 1814 the convict would be hanged until dead and the mutilation would be performed after death. Gibbeting was abolished in England in 1843. Drawing and quartering was abolished in 1870.

      • english teacher

i thought it referred to the practice of affixing each of the four limbs each to a seperate horse, then having the horses pull against one another until the limbs were ripped from the (still living?) victim. when a horse pulls a load, it is said “to draw” as in “horse drawn carriage”. quartering speaks for itself.

but, i’m not sure where this vague recollection of the practice comes from, so you should probably defer to the entry above for the better answer.

        • simon

but, i’m not sure where this vague recollection of the practice comes from, so you should probably defer to the entry above for the better answer.

I had a friend who learned of the practice in her Renaissance literature class.

But your recollection is the one she conveyed, too.

    • rwc

I have to agree. If any other Democrat had the associations Obama had or spewed the vile hate of Michelle they would be persona non grata in the Democratic party.

But since a large part of the activist class has decided to make Obama their tin plated God of feel good platitudes and commit political suicide at the same time, we’re stuck with these two.

Oh yeah, she combines ingratitude, arrogance and hate in one sour looking package.

This is a nightmare for the party and country.

    • bert

She has gotten a pass on some of the most egregious statements since Barbara Bush.

  • DisenfranchisedVoter

This woman is such a hypocrite. She’s become exactly like those rich white women on the Upper East Side she probably despises except she’s a rich black woman living on the South Side. She sounds so incredibly spoiled it’s ridiculous. The only words coming from her mouth should be how grateful she feels to be in the top 1%. She should be the one giving to her community instead of having her husband bamboozle poor black folks to get a deal on their mansion and big yard. I used to like her but I don’t want to look at her for the next 4-8 years complaining while she’s chillin’ in the White House eating organic meals prepared by her private chef.

    • simon

She should be the one giving to her community instead of having her husband bamboozle poor black folks to get a deal on their mansion and big yard

Rezkowatch has a blog entry from Pundita, touching on this very point, “the Obama narrative doll.”

The way Pundita puts it, Obama, and his posse, have deliberately preyed on minorities, to get rich.

      It turns your stomach.

The Chicago Tribune also has gavel to gavel coverage on Rezko’s trial, including (at least partial) transcripts of the government audiotapes.

If you really want insight into Obama’s character, and Rezko’s, too, hear it straight from the horses mouth.

Again, disgusting, they sound like children, bandying about hundreds of thousands of dollars, which they stole, and extorted from the public.

  • Who IS that woman? So crabby looking. What a sour visage.

    • that is michelle obama, who believes only she can run her “own house.”

      • chris

well, she can’t run mine. It costs too little. Its too small. It occasionally has rotton bananas too. It has no organic food, but spagetti Os, my daughter’s favorite. we have no hired trainers, just mom and dad who studied martial arts and barely have time to work out ourselves. we don’t have a piano instructor, dad teaches music because he already bought the books in college. we don’t have a pediatrician, we nurse ourselves with over the counter basics that probably don’t do much. we still use video tapes to record Mrs. Obama put us down because it would take away from our gas money to buy a modern equipment DVDR. We spoil the family once in a while with a $20 meal at the local family owned Mexican food place (you can eat lots of chips before your meal then take home leftovers).

I’m afraid we wouldn’t really fit her bill. we have lots of high-fructose corn syrup in our foods, probably MSG in some of it. Though we’d love to eat healthy, the money to buy a refrigerator that can house produce long enough to be worth it, is spent on gas to get around our area. We only buy enough gas to get around instead of filling up the tank.

We wouldn’t be very fun to be around because we often have stress about where the money for the light bill or rent will come from. We wouldn’t be financially viable to Mrs. Obama because we only work 15 hrs a day, haven’t had a vacation in…well our adult lifetimes. We have a wearing out car because the basic maintenance costs more than the monthly note. And of course we have to pay the insurance on the car that is now wearing out and needs a good tune up. (did I mention the yearly licensing and inspection charges?)

We got rid of our cell phones because they ate up our available money for occasionally getting enough groceries to not eat cheap food. Splurging on a meal means getting produce and enough ground beef to have a good home cooked spagetti. That wouldn’t fit the plan of our doctor’s advice…the doctor we never see, or even know because that costs for every visit.

Glasses are replaced, not when the prescription is clearly outdated, but when the repairing them just won’t work anymore. So we double check if we can stretch it, and God Bless, God Provides at the time of greatest needs.

Now, lest the rest of you think we are so miserable, we have one thing that can’t be bought, basic poor persons integrity and dignity. We still feed the stray animals, provide them homes till we can get to them a no-kill shelter (and that takes a while to verify). We follow the words of Jesus in the spirit and action by sharing what little we have with the various wandering souls (sometimes called homeless) with sandwiches and water or gatorade, and of course a sweet to finish it off. We do this when we get our gas and see them standing there wanting to ask for a hand out, but tired of their dignity being dragged around.

We stretch the budget in ways that our children learn money counts, but that they don’t have to do without some basics that children should have. We don’t buy our children’s love, we just love them every day.

We work at home to be available to them because day care costs, afterschool costs, and by not driving around we don’t pay all that gas.

What little we have we share as if making 20 loaves from one, and 20 fish from one. From our view, 40,000 a year is wealthy or at least stable. $300,000 is rich and almost selfish. We do not resent wealthy people. We resent only those who manipulate to gain more wealth while OTHERS go without, but not for our own. We are fine.

In fact, we’re better than fine, we are basically happy. We work in the yard, we rent, and spend more time on working with our neighbors, who are both young and ours.

We wouldn’t be very comfortable to Mrs. Obama, as we didn’t get to finish college like her husbands supporters did. But we take solace that we are in the majority, the greatest numbers of Americans, who simply live their lives and get buy until they get old, and shuffle off this mortal coil.

But if she ever did need a place to stay, we’d sleep on the couch so she could have our small master bedroom, as we do with most of our guests. We’d fix her some great chili dogs with onions on top, hand cut and prepared with love. I’m sure our kids would share the various candys they get along the way, and wouldn’t even notice all that money she doesn’t have, all that she lacks, and all the misfortune of her deprived life.

Good luck Mrs. Obama, we pray you find the end to your longing of completion in your lack. We might share how we find wholeness with very little. Besides, maybe you need a few more friends than you have. I have a ton of them here at NoQuarter USA, where I can type for the price of my ISP connection, and Flack is free to get back. (oh and the cable company wants to have another rate hike).

May God Bless your family and endure you through this suffering.

        • your words are not only apposite; they are thoughtful. i hope michelle has the opportunity to read your incisive comment.

(bowing head) from you, that is too kind. I did put my heart into it. It does reflect our life.

But, also, I was riffing on the great theme set by a Great Truthteller above. (bows in respect)

          • Chris’s remarks make my heart ache. If only Michelle Obama could not only read his words, but also FEEL them. Which I rather doubt she is capable of doing. (She seems too angry and too self-absorbed to be able to do that.)

“working with our neighbors, who are both young and ours.”

sorry folks, should read, young and old. neighbors who are “ours” would be a bit weird….actually very weird. well, yeah, the are OUR neighbors, but we haven’t finished our contracts to own them I don’t think.

          sorry for the typo.
Be clear, we don’t own anyone.

          • allimom99

Bless you and yours Chris – My husband and I both did finish collesge, but it hasn’t made a whole lot of difference in our financial situation. I left a relatively well-paying job 9 years ago and now work part-time so I can be THERE for my daughter. I relate all too well to your experience, and it is why I can NEVER vote for these self-important social climbers who don’t give a rat’s ass about us.

I live in CA, so my vote won’t count, but I will write in or vote 3d party before I facilitate this pair’s ascension to the White House.

            • chris

And also to you. I’m in this with you.
I went to college, then quit because my wife at the time should go first. So I was waiting till she acheived her degree. But being a wage working manager and her a book keeper, the reality of bills kept her from finishing or me finishing. Eventually the job I had was taken from me after I protested the fact that my company’s insurance wasn’t going to cover the birth of our child. I threatened to sue if they didn’t. After our child was born, i was fired 2 weeks later. The reason? “not doing a very good job”

Yeah right…might sound good unless you look at the stack of compliments I got for the job I did. Karma caught up one day with the man who fired me, as he was arrested for embezzling 3 million dollars. But I digress.

Today, my wife and I are talking about how companies Penalize you for being poor by charging you ‘reconnection’ fees, or ‘deposits’ for utilities. I forgot to pay our gas bill since during this (technically-a-winter?) season we didn’t use heat. It was purely a mistake, and I take responsibility. Our average bill is about $25. But after getting to $135, they cut it off (actually they never disconnected at all). They cancelled the account. Did they tell me that? nope. I happened to find a bill and look up the number, called to pay it all off. What did I find?
$85 deposit again, $45 reconnection, $35 fee that is still unexplained. Cha Ching…total bill now? $295.

How does something that is $25 become $295?
Well, the same thing has become true in several industries. They are penalizing lower income folks across the board to keep their electricity, phone, gas, and other utilities.

My elective bills have been reduced in the last year by willful changes. But these others I cannot do with out. We have no choice but to run our electricity, and instead of looking forward to December – March to see bills around $100 or so, we had to keep our air conditioner on because it stayed warm and muggy down here in Tejas.

This goes on and on, but I don’t hear it from Mrs. Obama, the topic of this thread.

When Clinton was here at a rally, she spoke directly of this suffering. Is she perfect? nah…god bless, but she got it, she elucidated it very well.

We need to bring this situation under control. I feel I’m in Reagan’s America again where the wealth disparity is outlandish.

Lets do this…Can we make changes that rock these companies to their knees?
              Yes, We Will.

              Bless you allimom99
