Who Stinketh the Most? Obama or Olbermann?

The musical, 1776, is one of my favorite films. And this song, Molasses to Rum, captures a moment that is relevant when we discuss racism and Obama. To set the scene, the debate on the Declaration of Independence was stuck as John Adams insisted that slavery must be condemned and outlawed if this new nation was to live up to its quest for liberty and justice. John Rutledge, a delegate from South Carolina, insisted that slavery was a right of his state. and he makes an impassioned plea in this song.

So what does this have to do with Senator Obama and Keith Olbermann?

Let’s start with Mr. Olbermann. He wrapped himself around an axle last week protesting the racism of Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro. Yet, when Barack is called out for having a black racist, Jeremiah Wright, a man he calls “Uncle,” as a leading member of his steering committee of ministers for his campaign, Keith throws kisses. Don’t take my word, take Keith’s:

And then we have Obama himself. When Don Imus called those college atheletes, “Nappy Headed Ho’s,” Obama correctly and properly was outraged. It does not matter that Imus was joking. It was no laughing matter. Yet when Jeremiah Wright says, “goddamn America,” Obama excuses his crazy uncle. He condemns the statement, so he says. Yet, being fully aware of these remarks when he started his campaign, Obama still put Wright in a top position. And it is only this week that Obama’s campaign has decided to erase other racists–such as the New Black Panthers–from his website. He didn’t realize it was wrong until it started hurting his poll ratings? Check out this video:

So Obama won’t go back on the Imus Show, because he does not want to be an enabler, but he will still go to church with Jeremiah Wright. Who stinketh the most?

  • Dawnelle

KO smells the worse as he’s had his nose up BO’s butt for weeks now.

    P E U!

    • Fleaflicker

LOL! Well put. An astute observation.

  • jwrjr

I more or less agree with Dawnelle. Obama has been running on race all along. KO should have known better.

  • Strawberrybitch

I’m sorry to all the Obama supporters out there but if Rev. Wright was white and he was saying those things about African Americans or Jewish folks, we as true liberals would FREAK. I mean Fred Phelps and Jerry Falwell make my eye twitch. That Hagee doink gives me GIRD and what’s his face, Donahue? sends me into fits of rage. (I’m a non practicing catholic because of twits like him) Hate is hate, no matter what colour it comes in.

    • kenoshaMarge

      Abso-damn-lutely!
You took the words right out of my mouth. (Including the non practicing catholic part. My personal rage at the church was because of the sexism. A friend went to confession and when she admitted to hating her husband because he beat her the Priest wanted to know what she did to make him so mad. When she told me about it I never went back to that church except to let the Priest know what I thought of him and ultimately decided the whole damn bunch of them were a bunch of hypocrites.)

Bigotry is bigotry no matter where it is directed. Many Obama supporters have no problem with misogyny or discrimination based on age but will scream “racist” at the drop of a hat.

I am generally a person that sees things in shades of gray rather than black or white. Not in the case of the “isms”. It’s all bad.

      • BernieO

Joe Scarborough made a powerful statement about this yesterday. He said that he would never stay in a church whose minister said racist things and that he particularly did not want his children exposed to it.
A lot of people are excusing Obama’s behavior as political expediency, overlooking the fact that his children were being indoctrinated into this sick world view.

    • JoanH

black racism against whites is not comparable to the reverse. However when a black man becomes President then he does become the establishment and all bets are off. Do I think Obama agrees with Wright? Not entirely. But to some extent he must since he sat and listened to it for 20 years. Hey, I do not blame him for seeing the world through a certain lense. However that is not what being a transendant post racial candidate is all about. And if he attended the church for political reasons then he is just more of the same old politics which makes his whole candidacy a fraud… which is basically what I have thought all along anyway.
It pains me to see what sheep my fellow liberals are. They are just as fooled by the media story as everyone else. In this case the media also includes the doppy think they are liberal bloggers.

    • Fleaflicker

Completely true. But the situation isn’t reversed, thus the double standard.

    • Alibe

I wonder if Jeremiah Wright might be part white. Hence his connection to Obama. If you look at Wright, he looks more white than Obama. Makes me think they both have struggled with being biracial. (I am only speculating) Why have they both decided to be super black instead of combining the best of both worlds is a question I ask. Instead both have taken on a black superiority and negated their white heritage. Wright has become a black separatist or a believer in black superiority. This conflict in ones self, denying half his family is troublesome in having a healthy psyche. Perhaps it devolves into a hyperpassivity and an extremely verbal nature. All talk, no action. All his solutions seem to revolve around giving a speech. Obama seems to blame white women and excuses black men, no matter what their transgressions. His father abandoned him and Wright has led him down a path to insanity. It is a strange dichotomy that is weird.

  • OxyCon

They both are covered in BO, and BS for that matter.
And, they’ve both lost alot of credibility.
Ask Bush how easy it is to get that back when you lose it.

    • Strawberrybitch

Credibility? Hell, who needs that when you have signing statements?

      • simon

Credibility? Hell, who needs that when you have signing statements?

The net effect being a lack of power, though, an erosion in power.

So he can sign all he wants, but he’s still crippled.

And speaking of, I saw Cheney in Afghanistan this morning, on the news, and he looked frightened.

The first time in 8 years I have publicly seen him look frightened.

And that’s good, I hope the pressure is getting to him.

        I consider him a criminal.

  • Mr.Murder

Obama courting gaybashers from bully pulpits on his campaign stage beside him. No problemo for Keith.

Hillary actually handled Rep. Ferraro as best she could. She took enough time for Ferraro to bow out, something owed a person who was a woman VP candidate. In fact, after her departure Sen.Obama used her own words as a point for sympathy before repeating his disclaimers on the 20 years of reverend uncle rants he put up with and tacitly endorsed as a measure of political expediency.

Will you read more composite characters and made up elements from the book “Wives of my Father” in the coming weeks, Keith?

    • Samantha

      Mr. Murder (Great name!),

Will you read more composite characters and made up elements from the book “Wives of my Father” in the coming weeks, Keith?

Yikes! You are way good. Bonus points for a bumper sticker!!

      • Fleaflicker

This is complete snark. I just thought it was funny…..

Does this mean that Obama is a Mormon Muslim?

Sorry, I have a twisted sense of humor. Like I said, snark. No disrespect really intended.

  • mel

Which one is running for President? Problem is Obama’s words in this piece, about his daughters, to not hear the words of Immas, but he takes them to listen to the words of Wright!

Who promotes growth of racial divide, someone who talks on an adult media station or someone who takes their kids to listen to someone preach from a pulpit in a church uttering words like Wright does and considers such a person family?

    • Fleaflicker

      Obama’s fatherly advice.

      Nappy headed hos: BAD

Chickens come home to roost because of those rich white folks in the US of KKK A: GOOD

      • Mechan

Good one Fleaflicker on Obama’s fatherly advice..no shame..

It still bothers me that he could continue to go to this church and listen to these sermons..but more importantly, as I said before..if he is trying to get away from all this, why is he taking his children here and exposing them to a continuation of hate..another generation coming up the ranks and he wants to change things..If I had that drumbed in my head week in and week out, and I am talking about the kids now… well it’s bound to sink in …..sad….very, very sad…

        Grreat article..well done..

  • campskunk

well, keith wanted to play politics, and he’s in it pretty deep now. he’s straining at gnats and swallowing camels whole now. nice throat action there, keith.

  • AF catfish

I had a feeling he’d scrub the New Black Panthers from his website. So I grabbed a screenshot.

Here’s the upper New Black Panther for Obama shot, and here’s the lower.

    • AF catfish

Well it looks like Hannity got a screenshot too. Well, I did just for backup because the slippery Senator from Illinois is known to get away with stuff!

      • Mr.Murder

Dollar to dim the “new Panthers” are cointelpro types. Wouldn’t doubt Roger Stone is one of their leaders in contributions.

        Just sayin’

        • Mary

Nope. Leader of the “New Black Panthers” was on Fox News tonight. Loud, belligerant, proud of that, very pro Obama, but when told Obama had rejected their endorsement, he laughed angrily and said “That’s just politics. In private, it’s different.”

Different in private? Rezko, Wright, Black Panthers.

It appears, my friends, that Obama is one thing in public, and another in private.

    • Matt

Jeez, anyone can create a profile about anything on my.barackobama.com This was a user created profile.

But no guys, take the low road. OBama is a black panther!

      • JoanH

Oh please stop with the hyperbole. It is so juvenile and such a freaking bore. This is one of the reasons I have no respect for Obamamaniacs.

      • Fleaflicker

You miss the pint entirely. They have been linked to Obama for a long time. In fact there has been a buzz in the blogosphere about it for a while now. It wasn’t until the Wright stuff hit the air that it was finally scrubbed.

The coverup is worse than the crime.

    • Fleaflicker

      Bless you.

      • TeakwoodKite

        I must o’ missed the pint as well… :0

  • JE

The post is biased and incomplete. Simple journalism would require Larry Johnson to read the God Damn America quote in context. Then let us talk about it. Simple honesty as opposed to campaigning for Hilary would have had him acknowledge the history of racism in this country, its deliberate use by the Republican Party, the new Party of the South, and by Hillary Clinton. Ms. Ferraro’s comments were not her own and were not an accident. Does Mr. Johnson know any African Americans? Does anyone on this blog have any understanding of what it is like to be African American now – or in the Jim Crow era, or the Civil Rights Movement?

There is an abundant and substantial body of literature on racism in America – scholarly, literary, biographical, statistical and political. No one on this blog seems aware of it. Calling Keith Olberman names demonstrates tone deafness. You may not like what he said but avoiding taking it seriously shows where you are coming from.

    FROM LARRY JOHNSON:
YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION. YOU ARE WRONG AS A HUMAN BEING CAN BE, BUT I ALLOW FOLKS LIKE YOU TO WALLOW IN THEIR IGNORANCE. YES, THERE IS RACISM IN THE UNITED STATES, BUT THE DAYS OF JIM CROW AND THE GROSS VIOLATION OF THE RIGHTS OF BLACK AMERICANS IS A THING OF THE PAST. OTHERWISE FOLKS LIKE OPRAH, TIGER WOODS, BILL COSBY, AND BARACK OBAMA WOULD NOT ENJOY THE SUCCESS AND POPULARITY THEY DO. THEY ARE LIVING TESTIMONY THAT AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE FULL PARTICIPATION IN SOCIETY. I AM NOT ABOUT TO SHOULDER THE BLAME FOR SLAVERY OR THE ACTIONS OF PEOPLE IN THE 19TH CENTURY. I LIVE NOW. I AM JUDGED BUT WHAT I DO NOW. SO THAT IS WHY I HAVE AN AFRICAN AMERICAN GOD-GRAND DAUGHTER. THAT IS WHY I TAUGHT MY SON TO RESPECT PEOPLE FOR THEIR CONDUCT AND THE CONTENT OF THEIR CHARACTER RATHER THAN FOCUS ON THEIR RACE. YOUR FAILURE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT HE IS PLAYING POLITICS WITH RACE AND TOSSING HIS OWN GRANDMOTHER UNDER THE BUS. YOU ARE TOO BUSY PATRONIZING BARACK OBAMA TO TAKE HIM SERIOUSLY AS A BLACK AMERICAN.

    • mel

So since you are an Obama supporter, you focus in on the issues solely evolving around him! What about the racism against women in this country? Latino’s, or Asians? To speak of racism you must incorporate all racism, not singular racial divide! Then talk, but as most Obama supporters, you focus around him! What about the vile remarks Obama supporters make of Clinton? YET YOU FOCUS ON THE ONE STATEMENT OF GDA, WHAT ABOUT WRIGHT’S 9/11 STATEMENTS OR HIS ATTACKS AGAINST THE CLINTON’S OR THE VAST OTHER DIGUSTING WORDS OF WRIGHT?

Where in Obama’s speech did he include them? Women have been suject to discrimination longer in America than blacks have, but they still don’t count? Tell that to native Americans!

Problem is he injected a division of race in order to save his ass and has done so continually and deserves nothing but stripping of any political office he holds! So tell your story to those in the slums who frfoze while Obama stuffed his pockets with slumlord money!

Get the picture, the WHOLE picture on this guy yet????????

    • fooj

My godfather is African American. My husband is Japanese.

JE, you are not the only human being who has lived with or knows about discrimination.
      Get over yourself.

    • flyarm

Yes matter of fact ..my husband is a double minority..in 1969 he was on a bus with his co-workers on a business trip and he was not allowed to stay in the same hotel as his co-workers..the Hotel called ahead to the bus to ask what nationality my husband was, because of his Hispanic name.

      This was in Florida.

Yes my husband is part Hispanic with a hispanic name, and he was not allowed to stay in a white mans hotel..1969 Florida.

Yes many of us on this blog do understand, your arrogance is telling..i guess this is what Obama means by unity????????

      I thought so.

Oh and my husbands second nationality…American Indian, California American Indian! My husband is more American Indian than Hispanic, and looks much more American Indian.

Oh and my mother in law..she was a seargent in the WAC’s during WWII she was American Indian..

My father in law was in Oahu when Pearl Harbor as attacked..he was building the oil tankers..under ground for the US Military when the bombing occured..he saved many American soldiers lives..
he then fought at Omaha Beach with the US Army..

..but their son was not allowed to stay at a white mans hotel! in 1969

yeah i get it real well…so does my husband , who also wore the uniform of this nation!

      • Mr.Murder

Thanks for yours in service, and for your insight and commentary here.

        -Chris

      • Shainzona

Wow – you must be proud of your husband and his family…hey, we’re proud, too!

    • http://takeaction.wordpress.com/ A.Citizen

Let me see…..these folks, and to be fair there are many more than this….

….OPRAH, TIGER WOODS, BILL COSBY, AND BARACK OBAMA WOULD NOT ENJOY THE SUCCESS AND POPULARITY THEY DO. THEY ARE LIVING TESTIMONY THAT AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE FULL PARTICIPATION IN SOCIETY.

….have been very successful in America. How many more?

Well, not so damn many. There are more black men the slammer than there are in college. The commenter has swallowed the, ‘Look there are some successful black folks so everything must be fine lie.

      Not.

But let’s get away from this black folks, Obama, Wright, Kabuki. The real problem in this nation is the uber-rich’s uncontrollable greed which is grinding black and white into the dirt. Why do you think slavery in America was so prevalent and deeply rooted in a nation whose founding documents said in so many words that everyone was to be free?

‘Cause, like the video Larry led of with, it paid and it paid bigtime. The concept of slavery is still alive and well in America. It’s called debt and they don’t need you to be black to slap the chains on ya.

The uber-rich are are getting richer and richer at an increasing rate as you read this and what are we talking about?

      How successful Oprah is?

How ‘progressive’ Obama is or is not?

Fuck me if the entire progressive blogosphere has not lost it’s collective mind in an orgy of stupidity about who….

      The real enemy is.

Oprah and the rest don’t give a fuck about you pal.

Time you started caring about you and yours and where you’ll be in 2025.

      Living in cardboard box?

      It’s happened before.

      • Mary

        Oprah IS the uber rich.

She RAN from Wright’s church when she realized how radical he was….not good for the public image.

How come Obama didn’t know that?

And how come Oprah builds a school in South Africa, but doesn’t give a rat’s patootie about the kids stuck in ghetto schools in her own Chicago?

        What’s up with that?

        • norrismorris

Oprah is not only superuber, but a supreme example of exploiting women in the guise of “help as she slogs merchandise non stop.

Oprah pushes Hallmark Card sentiment and sob stories on her daily soap opera, and gets richer and richer.

The billions earned from the needy women who buy her act are part of what we are witnessing in the Obama creation. He’s the One.

She skipped the church at the same time she started her South African mission. Part of Wright’s directive to aid Africans. The utter hatred of whites is now exposed, and Oprah’s bias in helping South Africa rather than needy Americans is obvious.

Reverend Wright has opened Pandora’s Box, and since the MSM is Obama all the way, we can see a thundering endorsement of Obama from MSM as never seen before.

The fix is in regarding the leaders of the
Democratic Party. Obama has been selected. Period.

Kerry,Terry,Pelosi,Dodd.McCaskill, and the rest of the elders and supers are all in line for throwing Hillary under the bus. Denying revotes in Florida or MI and coming up with a solution that will favor Obama is old news, and Dean has helped all the way.

Keith, I never knew ya. We are watching hell explode.

      • Fleaflicker

I will agree with you that the real enemies are the people that are wealthy and gain their wealth on the backs of the poor.

        • norrismorris

          Try Oprah Winfrey. Honest.

    • truthteller2007

You mistake tokenized figures for so many signs of social equality, when in fact racism is still ubiquitous discourse and practice that structures quotidian life in this country. I recommend you reread the sociological literature on race in the United States.

I also believe you should meditate on your complicity with racism in the contemporary United States. While you may not have engaged in past actions, you are a beneficiary of a structure that allots opportunities to Caucasians at the expense of African-Americans. Because you embraced those opportunities, you are complicit with the racism you ostensibly deplore. Perhaps this is why you support Barack Obama: his fetishized blackness serves a compensatory role in your psychic topography, one I believe is predicated on the compulsive disavowal of your racist predilections.

The last two sentences of the diatribe you hastily type are somewhat unintelligible. What are you attempting to imply? Perhaps a bit more thought would temper what appears to have been a textual paroxysm, indeed a mere bodily reflex, a mindless movement of the fingers.

      • Fleaflicker

While you may not have engaged in past actions, you are a beneficiary of a structure that allots opportunities to Caucasians at the expense of African-Americans.

Perhaps you will back up these ridiculous claims with a few sourced facts?

    • Samantha

      JE –

Ms. Ferraro’s comments were not her own and were not an accident.

You forgot to cut and past the rest of the talking point for that crazy notion.

The other things you said were were nutty too, but they were lengthy.

And no, none of us knows any black people or is black. We’ve never heard an unkind word from a black person, and slavery is still alive and well in California.

Does your planet have a moon like the Earth’s or are you it?

      • Fleaflicker

        LOL! Samantha.

      • norrismorris

        Samantha,

Just for your info, my mother, a white woman marched in Selma. I a white woman once sat on the NY Board of the Urban League, etc.

Do I know blacks? Are you kidding? Whitney Young was a dear friend, if you even know who he was in MLK’s movement.

So I don’t have to be considered ignorant of white bigotry to dislike [intensely] Barack Obama who is an empty suit with a repulsively dishonest background in Chicago, and is basically a Black Power grad from the school Of Rev Wright and the rest of the Jew hating Farrakhan voters who Obama embraced whole without a whimper saying. “I can’t tell anyone not to vote for me”.

He’s kidding. Yes, you can tell someone you don’t want their vote and don’t want any part of their bigotry against Jews, Gays, and Women.

Obama is a prime example of a political opportunist who is primed for power and is totally unprepared, and morally and ethically challenged to a ry serious degree.

Your West Coast take on Amricans knowledge of blacks is naive and unconsructed by experience or reality.

Racism and sexism abound in America. This is not news. We at least know that sexism and misogyny
are the deeper bigotry that has been aggravated rather than addressed by those who love Mr. Democracy.

I despise being made to feel guilty by Obamatons. I despise Obama’s hipocracy in his Chicago behavior when he threw his poor under the bus for Rezko’s slum dealings. And took hundreds of thousands from Rezko for all his election campaigns.

I have heard many unkind things from blacks and from whites. That’s the way it is. Obama is in league with the kind of black victimhood and anger that is disastrous.Live your own fairy tale, but it’s not mine.

    • Steve Fuller

I used to respect you and your insights. But the very fact that the blacks you list are celebrities and sports figures should get you booked on FOX for years. The I “have a black god-granddaugher” line is hilarious! “THE DAYS OF JIM CROW AND THE GROSS VIOLATION OF THE RIGHTS OF BLACK AMERICANS IS A THING OF THE PAST.” Unless we had witnessed it, we all might have said that about the Florida 2000 election (and the police cars outside pre-dominantly black polling places), the Plame affair, the Iraq debacle, etc. The right-wing has continually attempted with some success to push us back to the PAST.

JE didn’t call you a racist or say that you are responsible for slavery–I certainly don’t. JE called you biased, and I certainly would do that.

I check out several dozen sites a day. This site, for all of it’s screaming at KOS, is the most biased of all. No one else’s blogs (except for the right-wingers) grab “usually false” headlines and stories from Newsmax and Fox. (OK, maybe Taylor Marsh is close). But the worst is if you don’t think Obama is pond scum, you’re an idiot, naive, uninformed or have drank the koolaid. Methink you all protest too much.

I agree that KO is not be balanced but I think his point is that he expected better of Hillary. I don’t think for one minute that she is behind the attacks, but I do think her only chance of winning is to wait for Obama mistakes. She wouldn’t drive the bus that ran him over, but she’s not going to warn him, help him up, or look past as she sprints past.

Is Obama perfect or blameless–hell no. They are both fighting to win. Would Hillary be a better President–hell yes. Are the Republicans going to tear her to shreds–absolutely. If any of us think they will forget Walmart, the Rose law firm, Johnny Chung, any more than they’ll forget Rezco or Wright god help us.

If McCain does win, please take great pride in it–you’ve earned it.

This is your blog and you have every right to say anything you wish. You should certainly be commended for allowing all comments.

      • Samantha

        Steve Fuller –

If McCain does win, please take great pride in it–you’ve earned it.

It’s Obama’s fault for being such a hoodwinker that Edwards got bumped out over his sorry ass.

        • fooj

          Amen to that!

          • allimom99

            and Amen again!

      • simon

But the worst is if you don’t think Obama is pond scum

Obama is pond scum, he has taken money from Saddam’s bagman, Auchi.

You should educate yourself in regard to Auchi.

And if you still think Obama is OK, well, I guess we live in different realities.

      • Rob Gard

Steve — at least your comment was posted here. Any comment even remotely appearing to be an inquiry about the”Chosen One’s” past will never see the light of day at the Daily Obama site.

      • allimom99

WHY in God’s name would it be Hillary’s job to help him up? He’s been doing his level best to destroy her for months. I am an Edwards supporter, but I am damn sick of hearing Obama’s supporters whining every time their golden boy says or does something stupid and then expects to get a pass. Again and again he is proving to be NOT ready to play with the big boys. If he can’t sack up and defend himself effectively, he should get out of the way for someone who DOES have a chance to beat McCain now, IMO.

    • Mary

I’m sorry to inform you that Obama’s poll numbers have dropped like a rock.

Americans are NOT happy with having been bamboozled and hoodwinked by the illustrious Barak Obama.

When he removes his own daughters from that racist, hateful Black preacher’s teachings, I might take him seriously again.

YOU are now in the minority of Americans who are not offended by Obama’s preacher.

    • AF catfish

      Love this line:

read the God Damn America quote in context.

LoL that’s one for the books.

      • flyarm

In Fla yesterday i saw a bumpersticker..

I can’t post it here the way it was….don’t know how..but it was :

God Damn America with a red line through America crossing out America and replaced with Obama, to read ..

        GOD Damn Obama!

        its already started!!

    • simon

There is an abundant and substantial body of literature on racism in America – scholarly, literary, biographical, statistical and political. No one on this blog seems aware of it.

      This is untrue.

You should read a bit more than superficially, some of us have made the point racism is is rampant in this country, and the Republicans exploited the issue in a vain attempt to gain power.

So now what, how do address the issue, to make it better?

And Axelrod, in his attempt to follow Rove, exploited the issue, too.

How did that work out for him, and Obama?

      Not too well.

    • mimi

Time for me to weigh in here since I am AA, grew up during the Civil Rights era and thus know more than a little bit about racism.

Here’s why I don’t support BO. He, his wife and his campaign have been playing the race card shrewdly and some say brilliantly throughout this entire campaign. They have advanced lies, engaged in political hyperbole and have, themselves, been downright mean. (Michelle wanting to scratch Bill Clinton’s eyes out, knowing full well that she lied on him? And she believes that Americans have become downright mean? Yeah… she should know.) Finally, Obama got caught in his own trap.

What’s contemptible about BO’s speech and the near orgasmic reaction to it, hailing it as an historic speech is that the reasons behind it are selfish and steeped in political ambition. To compare it to the MLK “I Have a Dream” speech is way more demeaning than the historically accurate comment that Hillary made about LBJ signing the Civil Rights Act because the difference is this: MOTIVE. King was a private citizen, an activist, a minister who was challenging America into long overdue action to END segregation and discrimination. Obama, OTH, made a speech, only after he was backed into a corner, for one reason: he wants to be POTUS!

Obama has trivialized the seriousness of racism, which, although changed and improved, lingers like a bad cough in the body of American society. Obama could have run a bi-racial, multi-ethnic campaign from the get-go, after all, he is bi-racial. But, he chose instead to lean on the symbolism of his visage as a man of color, whose background is completely devoid of any cultural or sociological connection to the very complex heritage of slavery of black Americans in this country.

The notion of whether or not BO was black enough was dismissed and rejected early on as a way of avoiding the truth of his complicated and conflicted background and establishing him as an authentic black man, the first who was making a legitimate run for the office of President. AAs tacitly accepted his ethnic creds as Obama pretended that his campaign was not about race and vehemently rebuked anyone who tied him to the racial question.

Too bad, none of the Obama supporters appreciate that it was not Bill Clinton’s “Jesse Jackson won SC, too,” remarks, nor Ferraro’s “America being caught up in the concept,” statement, (which people like KO actually proves), it was his own pastor’s words caught on video and circulated that nailed him.

Now, I will admit that a lot of what he said is accurate. And certainly it doesn’t matter to me how many white people find the discussion of race distasteful and believe that Oprah Winfrey, and the success of a handful of high-profile celebrities like her negates the reality of the blight of urban black America, because it doesn’t change those things. But neither does Barack Obama’s words which were SELF-SERVING and just more examples of political expediency on his part. That no one in the media even noticed the audacity on his part to speak of poor housing in the black community coming from him who was in bed with a slum lord like Rezko all those years, is just one more example in the LONG LIST of the many media’s biases for Obama.

You can come to this blog and condemn Larry and all of us who support Hillary if you want, but it will not change the outrage of people like me as we have to stomach Obama being hailed as some great Messiah and agent for change when in reality he is just another cold, calculating, cunning politician who personified that cliche when he threw his own white grandmother under the bus in his speech.

As an AA, I welcome the dialogue on the issue of race. But at the same time, I don’t think that white America should be guilted into voting for a bi-racial candidate just to prove that we have transcended the race problem. Why? Because Obama is not the superior candidate. Hillary Clinton is! And in these days and times we need someone who knows what they are doing and can handle the job!

Those are probably some of the most moving, convincing words I have read on this subject. Your whole comment should be a diary somewhere. Kudos! And thank you.

    • JoanH

JE, you foolish victim of your own liberal bigotry. Ferraro said the same thing Obama said himself. Hillary has never said anything offensive about race at all.
The only racist here is Wright and you want to excuse him because the “poor black man should have to face reality because of his hard life”. How patronizing and insulting to black people. Do you really think they are so pathetic they are excused for being sensible human beings? Most black people DO NOT agree with Wright and most would not sit through 20 years of that type of sermon.

    • Rob Gard

JE — YOU ARE RIGHT!! Those words were not actually Geraldine Ferraro’s words, they were the words of “Precious” himself:

wow. i mean. wow. spoken like a true Republican authoritarian. you tell someone they are as wrong as a human being can be, then say something as ridiculously arrogant as it can be “i allow people to wallow in their own ignorance”… ya’ know, just to show what a great guy i am…. um, yeah there’s a reason this blog is a turd, and it comes from the top down. please, please get back to security issues, as it’s the only thing you know about apparently. or, perhaps i have misjudged you, and in fact you are equally abysmal in that area as well…. unlike you, i know that I WOULD’T KNOW, and i say it outright. god, the white arrogance and misunderstanding here is unbelievable (yeah, i’m white, and no i don’t feel any “white guilt”), and completely supports the notion that Obama’s speech is needed NOW and we need these conversations NOW. did you people even listen to the speech before you dismissed it out of hand and started parsing the words so that you could rip into any possiblility of an advantage for “your” candidate? (sure, i would vote for Hillary if she were the nominee, though i support Obama — god, in spite of you disgusting people here at this blog)) he addressed the ways in which misunderstandings occur from both sides of the aisle, talked about the reality of racism and the reality of white resentment, and this site is SEETHING white resentment from its pores. it’s astonishing and unbelievable. and then to see the main author, Larry Johnson, who apparently knows nothing about race relations or the actual numbers and statistics and social factors regarding causation and recitivism, etc. of the racial divide in America, to sit here and proclaim that someone else is wronger than anyone can be, though he’ll allow them to wallow in ignorance, is just beyond the pale. Larry, read a frikkin book…. ANY book about race in America. educate yourself sir, and maybe you’ll have an inkling about what the Obama speech was about. there is actual slavery going on in America right now as we speak. actual slavery, based on race. it’s not gone. it’s not the past. and that’s just one small issue. i only used it as a symbol for all the rest — institutional racism, etc. — because the actual slavery is still here. gawd, just like the anti-intellectual/authoritarian Republicans, of which group, you are apparently still a member, you deny the problem, and “la, la, la” about the need for true debate and an honest conversation. i can hear you sneer “well, i didn’t have it so easy…. and i’m a white man”. which is exactly the point covered in the speech. damn, dude, look in the mirror to see someone wallowing in ignorance and self-denail. grow some self-awareness.

I honestly can’t watch KO anymore. He is so obviously partisan. Seems like as a broadcaster he should have some semblance of impartiality, if I could see just a glimmer of it, perhaps I could watch. I had to stop around South Carolina when he seemed to be playing the race card for the Obama camp.

They both smell like a rodent that’s been dead for a day or so…

The thing that really, really bothered me about the Wright videos is the Hillary hating. AAs were given citizenship and thereby the right to vote in the 14th ammendment, women were not given the right to vote until the 19th ammendment!! An AA man had the right to vote way before any woman, AA or white had it in this country.

How dare Rev. Wright put down a woman in the way that he did Hillary? Maybe she hasn’t been called a n*****, but how many times has she been called c***, b****, w****, etc., etc. How can a man that grew up in an era where women were treated in much the second class way as AAs, demean here like this? AAs are not the only ones who have suffered at the hands of the white man and to add insult to injury, I’d take it a step further and says that women now are still suffering discrimination at the hands of men of all colors now. How many women still this day and age make less than a man in the same position? How many woman are still discriminated against subtly and not so subtly in the work place every day. How many women grew up in a family where the cost of college education was for “men” only, women would find a husband to support them, etc., etc. Everything he says on that video that Hillary hasn’t ever…she most certainly has, but it wasn’t because of color, it was because of sex.

I think Wright needs to open his eyes so that he can see that Hillary, as well as many other women, especially that grew up in her era, suffered many of the things that AAs have.

This is the culture the Obama’s have immersed themselves in so I understand now why Michelle comes across the way that she does. She is pretty tame in comparison. The clip Susan had up, I think yesterday, of Michelle, it sounds like something Rev. Wright would say, wonder if that’s where she got the little riff from.

    • jtool

“Maybe she hasn’t been called a n*****, but how many times has she been called c***, b****, w****, etc”

My thoughts exactly. Don’t forget “murderer” and “lesbian”, too! And if I may paraphrase the Rev Wright, “Hillary ain’t never been nobody’s property!”

True, and neither has Obama. Nor has Obama’s father, as far as we know. So it sounds to me that Wright is saying that blacks (Obama) have been property, but women (Hillary) have not.

Untrue. Women have been the property of men for millenia, and it continues today. Just look at our ally, Saudi Arabia, where a woman may not leave her home without the accompaniment of a male relative. Or the “honor” killings that still take place in the 21st century. I would say that more women then blacks are enslaved in today’s modern world. Wright was spewing hate to build his flock and sell DVDs.

If this man is holy, then I’m Mother Teresa. The rich white liberals defending this filth are the worst of hypocrites.

      • barbh

Every time I think about the things he said about her my blood just boils. There was a columnist here locally that was complaining about his comments being “taken out of context”. Sorry, but there is no context that offensive, personally derogatory marks toward a former first lady should be made from the pulpit.

“Hillary ain’t never been nobody’s property!”

True, and neither has Obama. Nor has Obama’s father,…..

This what I mean by Obama’s sociological disconnect from the AA community. The part of him that his black has a different heritage and culture. Yes, there are parallels, but not identical enough for him to claiming it the way he has especially given the fact that he was raisted by his mother and grandparents.

Ferraro’s comment was not hate speech, whereas Wright’s rants are hateful and racist and reprehensible. BO should be disqualified from being president — no American president can affirm through silent support a racist, sexist and separatist ideology.

I thought BO’s speech was horrible, dishonest and weak. Read Bill Clinton’s speech on race relations to see what a leader and a man of principle has to say about the pain of racial division and the capacity of Americans to be great.

It’s shameful for Obama to continue to wage a campaign that separates black from white, blacks from those whites who have been working for economic equality and civil rights for generations. Shameful. He should not be the democratic nominee.

    • Matt

…what are you, prudence truegood and head of the morality police?

That’s funny coming from the grand inquisitor of religious speech. Since religion is now fair game I’m looking forward to learning all about Hillary Clinton’s religious history.

          • Andy

Your are still not thinking: it is not about religion is about
            Wright’s racism

            • A Democrat

Your are still not thinking: it is not about religion…

The connection to Obama is through religious affiliation. Candidates must now be held liable for their religious connections, that goes for Clinton and McCain and on down the line.

              • Andy

                Be my guest

              • Ann

No, it’s not about religious affiliation it’s about condoning hate speech through attendant participation and 22,000 dollar tithes. Again, it’s about condoning hate speech and anti-americanism and racism and sexism. While it’s true we can’t expect our government officials to be more than men and women, we can, at the very least expect them to aspire to our greater good and represent what is best about America not what is worst.

And you can go ahead and explore Hillary’s religious background…you can see from her life that she has been working for economic equality and equal rights and civil liberty for years. Her methodist pastors have probably been hounding congregants to work harder and do more for the public good.

                • A Democrat

If you think this will remain confined to Hillary vs. Barak I think that’s a shortsighted view. If we as a culture are going to impose a definition of what’s politically correct to preach from the pulpit things are going to get real messy. How will this ever be contained?

                  • Mary

Aw, what the heck. In the interest of religious tolerance, maybe ALL preachers should say “God damn America.” Maybe ALL preachers should stand in the pulpit and gyrate their hips with sexual thrusts lustily while they sermonize about the Clintons having done the Black people “dirty.”

Maybe YOU should take your children to a church that speaks that way with children in the congregation.

                    Get after it, hotshot.

                      Pretty calm, just like Hillary’s.

But if YOUR church is like Obama’s, there’s lotta cussing and gyrating going on.

And if your fatherhood is like Obama’s, you’re ok with your children being a part of that.

                      Each to his own.

But we don’t have to vote for that kinda trash in our White House.

                      Due respect.

                    • A Democrat

I understand Bill Clinton did some gyrating in the oval office. I assume you won’t be putting our children through that again, right?

I understand Bill Clinton did some gyrating in the oval office

What does this have to do with Obama’s affiliation with a blatantly racist spiritual adviser?

                      Your firing squad is circular.

Your technique of “argument” does have it’s limitations.

                  • http://speaktruth speaktruth

You are missing the point completely.
In the interest of free speech Wright can believe and speak as he wishes. I and others do not have to agree or like it.
Although I do believe churches are not allowed to espouse any political views, certainly not permitted to maintain tax-exempt status.
Obama can believe and say whatever he wishes, also.
But a man like that should in no way represent and be president of this diverse, multi-ethnic, bi-gender country.
And at this point repudiating Wright, Farrakhan, Rezco, etc. will not do much. He can not undo his longterm relationships, which show his opportunism, lack of integrity, honesty, and character.
We don’t need someone like that as president again.

            • rwc

Yeah its about Wright,s racism and hatred of this country. The problem is, is his supporters have rationalized all of this away.

And worse some liberals(the DKos variety) actually think Wright is correct.

Nor do they get that most working class Americans will not view Obama’s 20 year friendship with a bigoted and hateful man as Wright as anything other than absolute horror.

              • Mary

                YES.

I myself am as lefty a liberal as they come, and I’ve never liked Obama. His tactics and talking points are straight out of the Repub playbook.

I’ve often described Obama as “Hillary with a tan and a penis,” because he ripped off most of his domestic policy ideas from her. Now I realize that Obama could never approach the integrity and class of Hillary Clinton. He has run the most disingenuous and cynical campaign I’ve ever seen from a Democrat.

If he is the nominee, I will really, really have to hold my nose to vote for Obama. This Wright thing stinks to high heaven.

It happens to Churches and other non-profits, but not often enough. It’s becoming more common as churches record their services.

They have to comply with lobbying rules and local, state and federal fundraising laws as well.

The IRS code requires certain things as well in order for a church to maintain its 501C3 status.

Soliciting funds for a particular candidate from the pulpit is not allowed.

It’s likely his Church has received government grants and funds which involves additional regulations as well.

                      IRS Investigating Obama’s Church
                      By Jacqueline L. Salmon
The United Church of Christ, Sen. Barack Obama’s spiritual home, is in hot water with the Internal Revenue Service over a speech Obama gave to its national convention last June.

The IRS has notified the UCC that it has opened an investigation into Obama’s address at the UCC’s 2007 General Synod in Hartford, Conn., the UCC said yesterday.

According to a copy of an IRS letter that the church received Monday, the IRS is launching the inquiry “because reasonable belief exists that the United Church of Christ has engaged in political activities that could jeopardize its tax-exempt status.”

Under federal law, churches are barred from becoming directly or indirectly involved in campaigns of political candidates.

On Christmas morning, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. compared presidential candidate Barack Obama’s impoverished childhood to Jesus Christ’s. “Barack knows what it means to be a black man living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people,” he then trumpeted. “Hillary [Clinton] can never know that.”

Mr. Wright wasn’t at a convention or a campaign stop. He was standing at the pulpit before the mostly African-American congregation of Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ, where Sen. Obama has worshiped for more than 20 years.

                      THOU SHALT VOTE FOR…

                      • The News: Sen. Barack Obama’s Chicago church has been promoting him — and criticizing his rival Hillary Clinton — from the pulpit.
                      • The Issue: Has the church violated federal law that restricts a church’s political activity?
                      • What’s At Stake: The church’s tax-exempt status and its ability to raise money.Mr. Wright, who will be ending his 36-year tenure as the church’s senior pastor in June, has previously been criticized for comments deriding President George Bush and lauding Louis Farrakhan of the Nation of Islam. Now Mr. Wright’s and his successor’s repeated enthusiastic promotion of their famous parishioner may be running afoul of federal tax law, which says churches can endanger their tax-exempt status by endorsing or opposing candidates for public office.

              • barbh

When a person mentions by name a presidential candidate from the pulpit in derogatory terms and says Hillary has never been called a n*****, I would take that as an endorsement of a candidate. I believe that a church cannot maintain their tax status on doing that.

OBAMA’S PASTOR WAS NOT PREACHING RELIGION..HE WAS PREACHING HATE, HE WAS PREACHING HATE WHEN HE SPOKE OF HILLARY FROM THE PULPIT AND GRINDED HIS HIPS IN A SEXUAL WAY..IN FRONT OF CHILDREN IN HIS CHURCH.

He was spewing hate when he said the USA created HIV?AIDS to give it to the blacks .

I was a 33 yr flight attendant and i can tell you case no. #1 was a white flight attendant from Canada!

Oh and it was my co-workers and many people in my hometiwn that died on 9/11 and that so called pastor basically said those who died on 9/11 were responsibile for their own deaths..because they were American..and they we and they were terrorists..well i will tell you damn flat out..they did not deserve to die that day..and it was hate that killed them..religious ideology and hate.

            sound familiar?

JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE STANDS AT A PULPIT IN A CHURCH DOESN’T MEAN THEY ONLY SPEAK OF RELIGION!

And to be very honest with you..i believe anyone listening to that hate with Their children in that church, that didn’t get up and run their children out of there and allowed their children to be exposed to that nasty nasty hate ..in my book ..that is child abuse!

          • allimom99

So that’s a YES? Good one, Larry.

        • PadrePio

Thank you Larry it’s nobody business what the Clinton’s’ do or agree to in regard to their marriage. I have a question for all of the Obamabots, did Obama cringe when Reverend Wright spewed racial hatred toward his “white grandmother who helped raise him and loved him”?

      • mel

Matt you just proved something, thank you!

Hillary FORGAVE her husband, a personal family issue!

Obama is telling people he cannot forgive and Obama lied continually over it along with NAFTA and the other racial injections his campaign thru in and lets not forget Rezko!

      • Ann

These two things are not the same and it is absurd for you to make the comparison. Staying true to your marriage vows is not an evil and reprehensible act. If WJC were preaching that governement is the KKK and no one stood up against him for that…then you can make your comparison.

      • mimi

JFK was one, too and the country revered Jackie Kennedy. LBJ…. let’s not even go there. FDR, died with another woman at his bedside, yet Eleanor Roosevelt is one of the most extraordinary women of the 20th century and hailed as such.

This is why when we went down the slimy and repulsive street of tabloid journalism and gossip, reporting the private lives of politicians, we have lowered the bar in gov’t and why gov’t no longer works. Unless there is proof that a politician broke the law, used public money and bestowed favors using his/her position, what goes on in a marriage should not be our business.

No wife or husband should have to explain to strangers or anyone the choice to remain in a marriage. Frankly, unless you’re on the inside, there’s no way to understand it so explanations are pointless. Press exporsure is merely to sensationalize, humiliate and profit off of butting into private lives. The public worldwide has become insatiable voyeurs. And we’ve only dimished our own lives in the process.

So, Matt, GO AWAY! You obviously have no life.

    • barbh

No Ferraro’s comment was not in the least racist, I think that only a racist would perceive it as such in fact. Remember when Hillary said it took a president to sign the civil rights bill into law (LBJ). The democrats lost a lot of voters here in the south when he did that, it was a tremendously courageous thing for him to do, against the will of many in his party… what a load of crap that racism got thrown out at her for that.

The way BO has played the race card every single chance that he gets, just sickens me and then he gives a two faced speech about getting past it and starting an honest conversation about race…it just makes me sick. I don’t know how I could vote for him in a GE. He is a very, very savvy politician, very psychologically astute or Axelrod is.

      • Mary

By Jesse Jackson Jr’s standards as Obama’s campaign co-chairman, we should NONE of us vote for Obama because we saw no tears from him after Katrina.

        Goes around, comes around.

        • barbh

Mary, my religious beliefs being a combination of east meets west, in a literal sense I believe that is what is happening to BO right now. He used the race card shamelessly against the Clinton’s and what goes around comes around, yes it does! Kind of Karma thing as inane as that might sound. The cosmicness of Newtons Third Law- For every action there is an equal opposite reaction, never fails, sometimes it just takes a while to see it in action…I look forward to the universe handing BO what he deserves.

its amazing too as the media is giving Obama so much air time to rehabilitate himself..last night Anderson Cooper was “ON THE ROAD” WITH oBAMA..I JUST WONDER..WILL HE GO on the road with Hillary??????? i bet not..

and now tonight..the Full show of Larry King Live with Obama..

when does Larry bring Hillary on for the full hour???????

I don’t even want to discuss Keith Olberman..but when does he do his special comment on the hypocracy and hate coming out of the campaign of Obama and the hateful comments of his wife..since she thinks scratching Bill Clintons eyes out is presidential wife “talk” in a Top NY periodical…about the former “DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT AND HEAD OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY”

YES WHEN..COME ON OBAMAITES..WHEN DOES THE MEDIA GIVE HILLARY THE EQUAL TIME THEY HAVE GIVEN OBMAMA ..JUST THIS WEEK ALONE..TO
            REHAB HIMSELF..??

oh yeah they won’t..they don’t give equal time to that “OTHER MINORITY”..WOMEN

AND DO TELL US WHY PRINCETON UNIV IS HIDING MICHELLE OBAMA’S THESIS ..UNTIL THE DAY AFTER THE ELECTION IN NOVEMBER..

            wonder what they are hiding???????

where has the media been on this??????????

From the latest New Yorker–a profile on Michelle Obama.

“I want to rip his eyes out!” she said, clawing at the air with her fingernails. One of her advisers gave her a nervous look. “Kidding!” Obama said. “See, this is what gets me into trouble.”

            xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I just want to know where Keith Olberman and Jack Cafferty, Wolf Blitzer, Chris Matthews are in reporting this?

Michelle is talking about the former president of the United States.

She is talking about the former head of the Democratic party.

She is talking about a man many of us in this country thought was possibly the best president in our lifetimes!

            xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

the article goes on…for people now putting space between them and their pastor…this was What Michelle Obama was saying to church goer’s in South Carolina..from the same article..

            snip:

Earlier on the day that Obama visited the nursery school, she addressed a congregation at the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, in Cheraw, a hamlet of about six thousand known as “The Prettiest Town in Dixie.” The church’s makeshift gravel parking lot, next to the Pee Dee Ice and Fuel Company and bounded by train tracks, was full. After an invocation by the Reverend Jerry Corbett and an introduction by the mayor of Cheraw, Obama came to the pulpit. “You all got up bright and early just for me?” she asked the mostly elderly, almost all-black crowd. “Yes!” they roared. Obama continued, “On behalf of my church home and my pastor, Reverend Wright, I bring greetings.”

gee i know it was we white voters who fought to stop the disenfranchisment of Blcak and minority voters in Florida..i know i fought for those voters..now it is a Black candidate that is the disnenfranchiser of Florida dn Michigan voters..well ..where is Keith Olberman on that ..or tweety?? or Jack Cafferty ..who is a lying sack of crap..

So Obama won’t go back on the Imus Show, because he does not want to be an enabler, but he will still go to church with Jeremiah Wright.

Wright retired some time ago. I would think you’d now that as you’ve been pushing this crap forever. Did you forget or did you lie?

    • http://NoQuarterUSA.net Larry Johnson

Actually, Wright retires in May I believe. Are you saying Wright will no longer attend that church and will no longer speak? Are you saying that the church will dump its afrocentric black liberation theology hate speech? don’t think so.

    • Andy

Obama is not breaking away from Wright. Obama chose Jeremiah Wright to be like an “uncle” to him. It was an intimate relationship of choice for 20 years; all of Obama’s adult life.

      It was Barack Obama’s choice.

Obama said Jeremiah Wright is part of who he is and he will not break away from him. His words.

Do you think Jeremiah Wright would never be a guest in an Obama’s White House ? Do you think a “President Obama” would stop being close to Wright?

    • vee

Isn’t the new minister, Moss, the man behind Wright and to the left who appears intermittently in the Christmas 2007 video? He appears to be rejoicing at Wright’s speech as much as the congregation.

20 years of Barack Obama’s life to date? TWENTY years: get it?
That’s all of Obama’s adult life.

Tell me: who did you choose to be really close during the last 20 years
of your life? Who did you choose to be the sounding board of your soul?

For which part in the comedy of errors that is the Obama campaign is Keith Olbermann auditioning?

Meant “”He is auditioning ….” sorry.

KO is auditioning to be McCain’s greatest critic. Let the “special comments” continue. KO has never had it so good than to be the voice of liberals against Republican outrages. HE IS THE CORPORATE MEDIA and so he’s backing the candidate that can’t beat McCain. Pretty cynical, I know, but what else can it be?

HE IS THE CORPORATE MEDIA and so he’s backing the candidate that can’t beat McCain

Except Keith is desperate for the approval of the boy blogger bands.

I get the feeling it is more important for Keith to be seen as a modern day Murrow, hip, courageous and groundbreaking, than it is to act as a mole, or a shill, for the republicans, or Obama.

I might wonder if there is a monetary arrangement.

A post on MyDD this morning by PD Jefferson referred to a Slate article, mentioning Kos, and his tenure as a paid shill for Dean:

        http://www.slate.com/id/2112314

How many others take money from political candidates, failing to disclose that information, otherwise slinging propaganda, under the guise of truth?

There is so much mediocrity, where did the standards of excellence go, in terms of originality, and insight?

I see so much undeserved backslapping, complimenting the uninspired and ordinary, and I’m hard pressed to explain.

Maybe it’s part of the propaganda stew, but it’s clearly an ethical conflict of interest.

What happened to that quaint old concept, anyway?

Wonder if John Adams is one of Obama’s ten?

“By the way,” just as an aside. You know, I’m not a historian, so— There’s a hotel, I think it’s the Capitol Hilton, in Washington; and downstairs, where there are a lot of banquet halls, there’s a whole row of all the presidents. You walk by the forty-three that have been there and you realize there are only about ten who you have any idea what they did.

    Larry;
Kieth is angeling for a press secretary gig. Obama? just angeling doing what he knows to do best.

Funny you mention John Adams, HBO’s running a show of him and they made the point of John Adams’s view on slavery and the struggle between the colonies on unanomous consent for war against Britan and John Rutledge barginning to keep slaves.

History is so easily forgotten and even more frequently repeated.

What has not be disscussed is the black on black violence. Here in the Philly of TODAY, it’s not white people killing off a generation of young, AA men. It’s other AA young men ….over shit like shoes and parking spaces. When is that going to be addressed?

Racism, and it’s devastating effects, should only be used as a political football.

I Do remember a time when politicians actually worked, as opposed to pretending to represent something more meaningful than a another dull artless Madonna song.

    • barbh

I couldn’t agree more. And when oh when is Obama going to discuss the drug problem that drives crime up, drives mental health admissions up, causes children to grow up without any role models and be shuffled from relative to relative to relative, into foster homes, etc., etc. Drugs, particularly cocaine and it’s variants are a problem for both races, but it is a HUGE problem in the black community. Children born of a substance abusing parents cause huge strains on society. The DARE program is the biggest joke. When my son was in school, it was ridiculous the small amount of time they spent with these kids. Not effective at all, in any way whatsoever.

    • mimi

“What has not be disscussed is the black on black violence. Here in the Philly of TODAY, it’s not white people killing off a generation of young, AA men. It’s other AA young men ….over shit like shoes and parking spaces. When is that going to be addressed?”

Again, a missed opportunity for Obama as far as my support for him goes. But he won’t do that. Look what happened to Bill Cosby when he did. AAs condemned him.

What blacks have to understand is that the refusal to take some responsibility is part of the reason, too, that there can’t be an open and honest dialogue on race. And as long as politicians like BO pander to the black community on this issue in order to get their votes, we will remain at the STALEMATE that Obama accused the white community of causing.

  • mel

Problem being, focus is centered on the Wright issue, that isn’t the sole issue, it is a part of the issue no one is grasping here!

Rezko ring a bell, Ayers ring a bell, NAFTA ring a bell or Auchi or Levine to name a few?

Obama builtg himself up as a clean boy out to do good, but he is being exposed as a typical power greedy politician who will by any means get the power he seeked since childhood and some people cannot stand the vision of a messiah fall before their eyes! He is an empty pants politician who grabbed a theme when no one was listening to his typical campaigning in late 2007 and it took off, talk by avoidance built up expectations of someone to recreate Washington, worked well for a while, but people look listen and learn and find out opps, this golden boy is just a self ordained golden boy, he is actiually a ruthless politician!

What kept him going for a while is he is new, Clinton is old as far as exposure goes, but when you weigh someone stumping on lies and one speech, you have to ask, Where is the Beef”?

What is the best of all defenses known to man, a good offence which is what Obama tried monday to do, derail my association by throwing it in the face of every American! Obama doing so, instilled fear and racism to save his ass, accept it and get over it, Obama is no victim he cried out being, he threw loved ones under the bus to save his ass, if Wright is who molded him, it came out in denouncing the privacy of his grandmothers failures for the world to see, this is disgusting dirty political workings, Obama style, which he has done through out his campaign!

Forgot where the editorial was, will find it about the original meeting with Axelrod, ant both Obana’s and Michelle made it clear, we enter we win no matter the cost, otherwise we are not going in!

So the Obama’s finally play the take the higher ground campaigning, while backroomers are chopping the legs out of competition, sound familiar? Then when unable to use cast blame on opponents appears, BLAME AMERICA FOR YOUR CHOICES!

And the lazy ppeople who love listening to bias voices of a candidate follow like sheep to slaughter! Yet the only candidate since the start of the campaigning who claimed perfection on judgement and perfection on ability has proven to be without and stumbles continually to the distruction of the Democratic Party, protecting himself by instilling the race card but once again!

    • simon

Rezko ring a bell, Ayers ring a bell, NAFTA ring a bell or Auchi or Levine to name a few?

Olberman stinketh the worst. We all, well most of us adults, expect that ANY politician is lying to us somewhat. They all do, they all will, it’s the nature of the beast. A completely honest pol wouldn’t get elected dogcatcher. So when someone preens them-self as a new kind of leader, we should all take that with a very large grain of salt. In politicians case, yes guilty until proven otherwise.

News-folks, have the job of telling we the people about all those lying pols. Sometimes it’s a nasty little sex scandal, sometimes it’s about them stealing more from us than usual. But telling us is their job. Olbermann isn’t doing a honest job. Thus his faux outrage and lengthy rants are dishonest and quite frankly; boring. He must have missed the part in English class about wordiness. (It’s okay KO, I have trouble with that one myself.)

Olbermann is standing knee deep in bullshit on the Obama bandwagon throwing rocks at Hillary Clinton. That’s not his job.

I thought his first couple of rants against George Bush were a breath of fresh air in an otherwise Bush adoring media. Evidently the adulation he got from the left for speaking against Bush went right to his over-sized ego. Too bad really, he had a shot at being an important voice in media. He blew it. It was a nice easy pop-up and he dropped it. Back to the minors Olbermann, guess you weren’t ready for the Big Show after all.

In the third video, I am impressed with Obama wanting his daughter to get athletic scholarships to college. The guys buys a $1.6 million house, and he wants to take away scholarships that could go to people who can’t afford university tuition.

The biggest stinkers are the poobahs in the DEMOCRATIC PARTY who fell for this guy without vetting him!! So eager to ignore Edwards, so eager to get rid of the Clintons…they latch onto the most inexperienced, arrogant oppotunist they could find! And this comes from someone who did NOT support Hillary. But the landscape changes…you go with the best you’ve got and right now, that’s “The Clintons.” With the economy about to go into recession big time, some experience with dealing with Bush-created messes could be very attractive to a lot of voters.

The hypocrisy and double standards by which Obama is being judged in the media is astounding. It is as if they have a lower threshold of accuracy and truth when it comes to all things Obama. Nothing else really explains it.

Like many I have had it, and if anything this has only hardened my resolve to work harder to expose who this man is. Because the more I uncover, the more I not only dislike him but consider him a threat to our national security. And not just against foreign adversaries.

The New Black Panther Party information is VERY damning. And thankfully some people managed to save screen shots. I am also sure that others have access to archived materials. This won’t go away. And those of us pointing this out are going to be labeled as consorting with the right wing. In fact many of us already have. But those that make these ridiculous assertions have no idea who the real adversary is to the Democratic party and what they will do once they put their money machine behind it.

The repig 527′s are cranking the commericals out already..and will be up and ready to run ..any time now!..

But they are staying quiet for the time being..because they want Obama like a shark wants bloody meat..

I have watched Gergan the past couple nights on CNN ..saying such nice things about Obama..and all i can do is laugh..are we, as dems, this stupid? do we want to believe our own foolishness so badly..that all rational reasoning is gone?

It is mind boggling to me.

Obama has flooded the internet with paid propagandists,,and he is being run by Howard Dean and Donna Brazile..

and do they honestly think for a minute they will survive the RNC smear machine with Obama and some internet liars and propagandists?

hell only the stupid don’t see the Obama tag teams as they enter web sites..

last night this thread was attacked by an Obama tag team..

it is beyond belief that people do not see right through this …

They will be crushed by the RNC smear machine and repig 527′s…just like Dean was..these people in this dem party are damn fools..and amateurs!

Obama is the shark food..for the Repig party.

He is an amateur..who hear honestly believes Bush and Cheney will turn this white house over to an Obama?..they know the crimes they have committed..and they know their only salvation will be to get 4 years between them and the white house..

its is their only safety net..

and they will do anything and everything to crush and destroy ..Obama!..he will be a walk in the park for them ..or a piece of cake..

and yes remember the wire tapping ..Cheney has that stuff down pat..and i am sure his notebook is full..

Olbermann definitely – and the rest of the lying media, but, worst of all, MSNBC.
That story is possibly the biggest story (although there are quite a few other weird ones) of this surreal campaign.
    So many questions.
Why? Why is MSNBC – GE – top corporation in the world, producer of weapons and wartoys, why are they so openly and shamelessly part of the Obama campaign, promoting him 24/7.
    Very bizarro!
Why has Olbermann SUDDENLY morphed from spokesman for disenfranchised anti-war Dems into lying Obama pod with implant. He so reminds me of those people implanted with pods who become robots in movie that frightened me so when I saw it as a child. Was it Invasion of the Body Snatchers? For weeks after I would check my parents necks to make sure there was no mark for implant. What was so scary was that people looked the same, sounded the same, but were no longer themselves, ie. had no mind. Like Stepford too.
That is how Olbermann seems. I never watch him any more (I used to rush home for him), but saw a few videos yesterday, from OlbermannWatch. Weird to go there or to Fox lately.
There was Olbermann claiming that Clinton camp had gone to Canadians with “only politics” comment.
He went on and on with great assurance, even though there was no evidence and next day there was proof that it was Obamas. Did Olbermann apologize?
So outrageous. Can he be sued?
So big question is why? Why are they selling Obama 24/7. First they got rid of Edwards by comments about his hair and house, then totally ignoring him. My first choice, probably most electable.
Now it’s attack Hillary, push Obama. Blatant, hard sell, no subtlety.
Why? Do they want McCain? Or Obama? And if GE wants Obama what does that mean?
Other question – is there any way to track money from Obama’s campaign for PR to TV, journalists, magazines. Is this public information?

Look into Axelrod and his ties to the nuclear power ..

      quote NYtimes
“Mr. Obama’s chief political strategist, David Axelrod, has worked as a consultant to Exelon.”

      http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/03/us/politics/03exelon.html?_

G.E. is power..some of those who have given and are on staff with Obama had plans ( or have) to build Nuke plants in Iraq…

think maybe G.E. owner of NBC/MSNBC wants a part of the pie?

Obama will be their ..guy…they made him after all..with the help of the Nuke boys in Illinois!..

please people do look at who Obama has as his advisors..do some research..

and don’t assume everyone with a “D” behind their names is automatically the good guys.

I am a proud Dem ..but i am an American First..

I don’t watch MSNBC. I do watch Charlie Rose. I’d rather hear from the people themselves than have a journalist parse it.

They were discussing the Obama speech. After I recovered from Reverend Floyd Harold Flake’s comment that perhaps we haven’t seen the likes of the Obama speech since MLQ, he made a comment dismissive of Wright which included the phrase “Liberation Theology”. Liberation wha? Anyway the hook was set.

    A brief aside is needed.

When I entered basic training we were in the kumbaya phase of Civil Rights where integration was the goal.

In 1968 when I was burning my green jeans in the barrel in back of my mom’s place, the world I reentered had taken a really wierd turn; integration was gone, black was beautiful; Newark and Detroit were toast, and the Panthers were scaring the hell out of Oakland. It was just too damned much to get my head around so I got a life.

Now, thanks to Flake and the nice people at Wikipedia, I understand a little better.

Liberation Theology, more specifically Black Liberation Theology is a hell of a lot bigger than just Jeremiah Wright. It grew out of the theological writings of James Cone, starting with his Black Theology and Black Power in 1969. Cone is only one of eighteen listed for the United States in the Wikipedia article who are engaged in discourse on Black Theology.

Read the Wikipedia articles: Here is a Cone teaser:

“Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us, if God is not against white racists, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill gods that do not belong to the black community.”

Obama has soaked up 15 years of this, maybe more, a point oft belabored on this web site.

Thus Barack Obama must either be using the church as our politicians usually do or he is a true believer and the Manchurian Candidate.

      mmmm…..
      make that MLK

If the statments of rev.wright were not so bad why have they have been taken off the internet. could it be that the blacks know that the statements of rev. wright would be enough be themselves to sink obama’s canpaign. obama could survice the slum lord, or the bomber but with that added to rev. wright it would be to much for even the blacks to swallow.
