LAVA Hot! Dodd’s Wife “Former Director of Bermuda-Based IPC Holdings, an AIG Controlled Company”

thumb_dodd_family_907h/t Truthteller for spotting this muy caliente story about Senator Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) — now forever infamous for his Day One: “I didn’t touch the Wyden/Snowe amendment”; Day Two: “I altered the amendment in the bill, but I’m not being inconsistent in my truthiness” — and his Mormon wife, Jackie Clegg Dodd, also an aide for 10 years to former Sen. Jake Garn, R-Utah.

From Dodd’s Wife a Former Director of Bermuda-Based IPC Holdings, an AIG Controlled Company,” Real Clear Politics, March 23, 2009, by Kevin Rennie:

No wonder Senator Christopher Dodd (D-Conn) went wobbly last week when asked about his February amendment ratifying hundreds of millions of dollars in bonuses to executives at insurance giant AIG. Dodd has been one of the company’s favorite recipients of campaign contributions. But it turns out that Senator Dodd’s wife has also benefited from past connections to AIG as well.

From 2001-2004, Jackie Clegg Dodd served as an “outside” director of IPC Holdings, Ltd., a Bermuda-based company controlled by AIG. IPC, which provides property casualty catastrophe insurance coverage, was formed in 1993 and currently has a market cap of $1.4 billion and trades on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol IPCR. In 2001, in addition to a public offering of 15 million shares of stock that raised $380 million, IPC raised more than $109 million through a simultaneous private placement sale of 5.6 million shares of stock to AIG – giving AIG a 20% stake in IPC. (AIG sold its 13.397 million shares in IPC in August, 2006.)

Clegg was compensated for her duties to the company, which was managed by a subsidiary of AIG. In 2003, according to a proxy statement, Clegg received $12,000 per year and an additional $1,000 for each Directors’ and committee meeting she attended. Clegg served on the Audit and Investment committees during her final year on the board.

NA/SenateIPC paid millions each year to other AIG-related companies for administrative and other services. Clegg was a diligent director. In 2003, the proxy statement report, she attended more than 75% of board and committee meetings. This while she served as the managing partner of Clegg International Consultants, LLC, which she created in 2001, the year she joined the board of IPC. (See Dodd’s public financial disclosure reports with the Senate from 2001-2004 here.)

Dodd is likely more familiar with the complicated workings of AIG than he was letting on last week. … Read all.

Ahem. No doubt he is.

P.S. If, the first time I mention her name, you click on the link, you’ll be treated to an interesting story about Dodd’s long courtship of Jackie, as well as the story of her Utah Valley family’s solid Mormon and Republican roots from the Deseret Morning News newspaper in Utah.

Why does it seem that Dodd and Obama are joined at the hip when it comes to being the major recipients of donations from these economy disaster operations like AIG, Fanny & Freddy?

  • avwrobel

Wow! Great post. Nothing like sunshine, the great disinfectant.

  • samb

Did not know this, Thanks for the info. Hannity is going to love this.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Yes Hannity will. But he’ll say that he discovered it, and never credit Real Clear Politics or OpenSecrets.org, which discovered and provided this information.

Ruh-roh!If the MSM will actually report this, there’s gonna be some mighty big sh*t hitting the fan!

I msut say, the scandals are flying at warp speed in this administration, Woah Nellie!

I am being forced to take some drastic action and alter one of my pet names for Obama. I was sometimes calling him President Weekly Scandal. I shall now amend that title to be, President Daily Scandal. I’ll keep President Hourly scandal on the back burner for now. At the rate they’re going, it’s sure to come in handy soon!

AMEN Susan, I agree with your point.

  • samb

True, but I know thanks to this website, so If I hear it somewhere else I will know.

it just gets crookeder every day..

  • I’mFedUp

It’s literally several a day lately. I can’t believe 0Zero and his band of thieves have ANY supporters left. Do these losers not read or watch tv, anything?

  • kat in your hat

    Oh for crap’s sake!!

  • pd

Hey, Look! There’s Rush!! Over there!!

  • samb

There so many AIG crap-slingers out there, I have to open a window FOLLOW THE MONEY, I AM SURE IT WILL LEAD TO MORE CRAP-SLINGERS

  • arky

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t Dodd say, when he announced for Prez, that he would not be seeking re-election to the Senate in 2010??

  • cynic

Pardon me for stating the obvious, but having a connection with company owned by a subsidiary of AIG hardly puts one at the center of the AIG action. Nor is $12,000 a year plus $1,000 for each Director’s meeting attended in any way unusual fees for holding such a position.

Is she being actually being accused of something, or are we just trying to imply guilt by very tenuous association?

Are we suggesting that her husband actually had inside knowledge of the inner goings on at AIG’s central offices through this connection?

  • I’mFedUp

It’s a little thing called “connect the dots” cynic. Try it some time!

  • cynic

Yeah, right. Connect those dots to make a picture.

There’s also something known as apophenia.

  • Doc99

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Countrywide) should simply resign.

  • http://americanpumainitaly.blogspot.com/ American Girl in Italy

I didn’t really get the RCP article… I have no doubt Dodd is crooked, and he has been busted more than once doing crooked things, this AIG mess included, but I don’t get this article.

I guess it points to the idea that Dodd has even more reasons/ties to act in the best interest of AIG?

it doesn’t sound like they are saying she did anything wrong? (am i missing something? it is quite possible! hhaa)

  • Becks

Ah, the hits just keep on coming.

  • Ferd Berfle

That’s what investigations are for. Who knows what might be found. Frankly I’m tired of the same good-old-boy/gal network in DC. I criticized the Republicans for their cozy relationships and I can damn well criticize the former Democrats, as well.

  • Peggy Sue

You know with every article I read, I feel more and more heartsick. Krugman was on the money: what a mess! The whole system is a mess with our investment class and political class joined at the hip in a mafia-like, symbiotic nightmare.

And we thought US representatives and senators served “our” interests?

    Hah!

We’ve been had, taken to the cleaners. And now we’re expected to give a nod to another gambler’s paradise–the Geithner no-plan. No wonder bank stocks are flying today. What a great deal. Play the roulette table and whether the numbers come up or not, the banksters win. Problem is, the taxpayer is excluded from the playing table. We front the money and cover all risk. And if it goes bad?

    Oh well!

Want to talk about gallow’s humor?? This is it! We’re living it.

  • Linda Jones

    Dodd’s wife —-> IPC Holdings —-> AIG —-> Chris Dodd —-> bailout —-> bonuses

It seems pretty clear to me.

  • I’mFedUp

ROFLMAO…cynic, 0Zero could literally piss on your front lawn and you would applaud him for it.

  • cynic

Yeah, I agree. But I’m not much in favor of a McCarthy-style witch hunt, conducted in this case by people who imagine the odor of sulfur in every corporate boardroom and business office in the nation.

  • Concerned Mother

So you are one of those corporate Democrats? What a joke.

  • I’mFedUp

Corporate Democrat, Concern Troll..you say tomato, I say tomahto….ROFLMAO.

  • cynic

Do you have any clue how many companies and businesses are held by AIG? There’s nothing “clear” about it at all. I’m not even clear about what the accusation is. The only thing I’m clear on is that you’ve already made up your mind that Jackie Dodd is probably guilty of it.

I wonder if she got her board seats like Meeshell got hers

  • Linda Jones

Evidence is not to her favor. Everything in the article is true. You have refuted nothing.

It’s very clear to me. Pay to play politics.

  • http://www.theartfuldoddger.blogspot.com CTVoter2010

2010 will be by far Dodd’s most vulnerable re-election campaign. Simmons will prove to be a formidable opponent, not afraid to call out Dodd on his numerous and constantly expanding scandals.

From moving to Iowa for an embarrassing Presidential campaign while the economy collapsed, to his sweetheart mortgages with Countrywide and the associated stonewalling, to his mysteriously non-appreciating Irish cottage, to lies about legislation allowing huge bonuses to big donors, to his wife working for AIG, it just goes on and on. Connecticut deserves better.

The only thing I’m clear on is that you’ve already made up your mind that Jackie Dodd is probably guilty of it.

Cynic Pot meet NQ kettle, after a fashion. You’ve made no comments that weren’t in some sort of lock-step support of That One and that he is guilty of nothing and that we should lighten up on him. So pardon us if we find your comments lacking in any sort of credibility. I never lightened up on Bush and I certainly won’t lighten up on That One. If you don’t like it, you know where the door is. Don’t let it hit you in the arse on your way out.

  • I’m a Linda too

    UN BE LIE VABLE!

If Barney Frank’s boyfriend can work for Fannie/Freddie, why can’t Chris Dodd’s wife work for AIG. Very consistent: One partner regulates the other.

  • http://noquarterusa.net/ SusanUnPC

Linda! You’re a genius. You should write for this blog.

  • mom

    Susan,

Why, pray tell, do you mention Dudd’s MORMON wife?

What does her religion have to do with anything? Are you implying that Mormons are without moral fiber or are somehow money grubbing? What’s your pt?

Would you have said Dudd’s JEWISH wife?

    Get a clue.

  • NoBamaNoWay

    indeed.

  • NoBamaNoWay

    pretty much.

  • ACPD

Dodd is my senator and I hope that next year we can send him home for good. I wrote him a letter long before any of this crisis occurred asking him as chair of the banking committee to look into hedge funds and to work on controlling credit card companies and their predatory lending. I never even got a response–canned or otherwise.

Then when he decided to run for president his campaign was largely funded by money from the banking industry. He, in fact, received the most money from these sources of any candidate running.

If he is re-elected in CT next year, this state is madder than I think it is. At the moment his polling numbers are slightly lower than a potentially good Republican candidate. We’ll have to see how it plays out…, but getting rid of Dodd would go a long way toward sorting out our financial mess….

Specifically, Barney Frank introduced Herb Moses to his colleagues in the House as his “spouse.”
