[Update: Obama's Job Approval Sinking] Live Blog Thread . AIG OVERSIGHT Hearing

LAVA HOT UPDATE:Poll of change: Obama’s job approval slipping to ‘50-50’. Glub, glub, glub. Heh. From the Boston Herald: “The honeymoon is over, a national poll will signal today as President Obama’s job approval stumbles to about 50 percent over the lack of improvement with the crippled economy.” Ohhhh. Hanky, please! Memeorandum links to more stories.

Of note from the hearing: GOOD FOR YOU, Maxine Waters! POINTING TO the favoritism that Goldman Sachs seems to enjoy over all other firms.

CNN has streaming video, as do C-Span.org (#3) and the Washington Post and NY Times.

Barney is socking it to the idiots from Code Pink. Thank god.

  • politicalidentitycrisis

What did Barney say to Code Pink? I was not listening or watching.

Are you referring to him calling Scalia a homophobe?

  • candymarl

Susan what did Code Pink do? I was offline for a while. Technical difficulties.

  • politicalidentitycrisis

Regarding the polls for Obama, I am not surprised, except to say 50% still seems high. I would think he’d be at about 39% or less approval rating by now! What, are people just that stupid???? Oh, wait. Yes, they are. They elected the fool and now have to try to save face!

Pat R. How about a court jester Obama toon?

    • beebop

The headline should read “Obama’s Job Approval STINKING.”

“cool thug;” that pretty much is obama’s “appeal,” isn’t it? what is america coming to?

  • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

It’s to interesting to see how the bots respond to Obama’s plummeting approval numbers. They’ll instantly bring up some other poll and claim they aren’t that low. Or, they’ll blame all the criticism of Obama on a Republican smear campaign, racism, or other such nonsense.

Or, they’ll spout this lame story that Obama has “inherited” the worst economy ever, thanks to Bush (never mind the Democrats have controlled Congress since 2006).

Or, we’ll hear the latest Obamabot whine: “JUST GIVE HIM A CHANCE, it’s too soon to tell, lay off the criticism.”

Their heads are going to explode when Obama becomes about as popular as Bush when Bush left office.

    • jbjd

When that happens, will BO leave office, too?

    • cynic

Right-leaning conservatives–who have never actually practiced the conservative fiscal responsibility they’ve preached at any time since the beginning of the Reagan presidency–would like to remove the SCAPEGOAT sign from around their own necks and hang it back on the democrats, where they believe it properly belongs. The disposition of the sign is a perennial game in American politics, because the majorities of both democratic and republican voters seldom analyze issues and options more than superficially. Polls are mainly a reflection of how that particular game is going.
      —————-
The most interesting moment I saw during this morning’s AIG hearing came when Gary L. Ackerman of New York inquired of Bernanke if it might not be prudent for Credit Default Swap activites to be temporarily “grounded” until their safety can be determined. Bernanke’s answer was vague and the hearing quickly moved on. When the camera caught Bernanke again just a moment later, I thought he appeared visibly shaken. I was left wondering if someone had come a little too close to something Bernanke recognizes as the unexploded bomb.

    • ahs

Who is reading polls selectively? You’re crowing over one Zogby (who had an awful primary and GE polling cycle). Meanwhile the RCP average is currently 61%, with a +31 spread.

My God, the sky is falling and everything! ;)

      • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

61% is lower than what Bush had at this time. And you just proved my point (about how bots will always come back at you with ANOTHER poll in a lame attempt to prove Obama’s numbers aren’t slipping).

        • ahs

Sure, they’re slipping. I can’t say I remember Bush’s numbers at this point, but I’ll even take your word for that one.

I’m not in denial, a bit. It’s been a rough few weeks in an overall rough situation. BUT, you’re kidding yourself if you start taking obvious outlier polls seriously. Although 60 isn’t great for this point in time, the only reliable data we have says the number is 60 and not 50. Deal with it.

          • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

Deal with what? You are the one who is here trying to justify Obama’s poll numbers. Even if 60% is the “reliable” number I still think it’s a pretty crappy number, especially considering he was touted as the new Messiah.

Now, if he were getting 80% approval numbers, like Sarah Palin does in Alaska, I’d concede he was very popular. But 60% at this point is PATHETIC.

Face it, your man is a huge disappointment.

            • ahs

What am I trying to justify? I’m just stating facts. Mainly, I’m stating that twice as many Americans think Obama is doing a good job as think he’s doing a bad job. And that fact, which you cannot dispute with any reliable data, makes me think that your assertion that Obama is unpopular is, frankly, total BS.

Disappointing? Maybe. Depends who you ask. I know I’m a little bit disappointed, personally (although all in all pretty pleased). But saying Obama’s unpopular? That’s just dumb.

              • beebop

The fact that the guy who can’t take a bowel movement without a teleprompter and a film crew is declining in the polls is a likely result of all talk and inaction. But, hey, just one opinion ….

              • elise

ahs, if his approval rating was 75% in January and it is 60% now, he has lost 15% in a month and a half. I’m never really too interested in the numbers since I believe the movement is more important.

            • Lyn

The fact that most of the MSM still covers for him, instead of reporting all the stupid things he has done and said since he took office and how he hasn’t filled positions or is probably lieing about the AIG bonuses, ect.would make me except his numbers would be even higher that 60. Even with the positive worshipful coverage people are seeing the truth, and his numbers ARE dropping since he took office. too bad it took them this long.

            • Lyn

        • cynic

What’s the point? Bush kept on being Bush, even when his approval numbers sank to abysmally low levels. Republican and democratic majority congresses have kept on doing whatever they’ve been doing, despite approval levels that have dropped even lower. The only time polls seem to influence real-world events is during an election year, and even then it’s debatable whether they’re an influencing factor, or simply a reflection.

Polls might actually be useful if they were designed to sample public opinion on alternative approaches to dealing with specific issues, instead of as shallow popularity surveys.

          • Lyn

BUT Bush didn’t have Obama’s frail ego and need to be Loved by the Masses. Obama looks like he is already cracking as he is running all over the country having Rally’s and going on Leno. Bush didn’t send out crazy’s to try and get more people to sign pledges to him and his policies.

          • elise

cynic, Bush said he never paid attention to polls. However, if the poll is reliable and has a large sample size, then it accurately reflects the approval or disapproval by American citizens of the policy being carried out by the president or party in charge. In that case, it is not a popularity contest. It is a judgment on the success or failure of what he is doing and since he works for us, it would be nice to know he’s paying attention.

        • ahs

BTW, I looked it up, and you’re wrong about Bush’s ratings.

          http://www.hist.umn.edu/~ruggles/Approval.htm

Polling average was never above 60% until 9/12/01. Better luck next time.

          • http://www.hillaryorbust.com Hillary or Bust

You obviously can’t read a graph. Your much-touted Gallup polls DID put Bush above 60% at the beginning of the poll – and it was Zogby even back then showing Bush at lower numbers, but still ABOVE 50% until the summer of 2001.

Go look at it again. Read it VERY CAREFULLY.

            • ahs

Don’t be intentionally dense. There’s a solid black line showing polling average. I could care less what any one poll says.

You’ll note I’m quoting the RCP average (61% as of right now) for Obama. I don’t even know the current Gallup number.

              • Lyn

WHY are you so worried about this? IS he a relative or close friend that makes you care so much what number we look at to see Obama is losing ground BEFORE he even filled all the departments?

              • elise

There is a problem with RCP I noticed during the election. The spread was as high as 20%. To be a legitimate, the lowest and highest numbers should be thrown out and the others averaged. It is also important to look at the disapproval rating which has risen quite a bit in main part among Independents.

The polls seem a little out of line with the poll I follow, Rasmussen. Rasmussen tracks Obama approval and for the last couple of weeks Obama has really been sliding downhill. They have him at an approval of +4 or +5 (+25 average before) for the last week, yet when I check the poll average on Real Clear Politics they have really old numbers included for all the polls and including Rasmussen. I learned from the past election to keep track of one or possibly two polls on a regular basis. Rasmussen seems fair and politically in the middle and it works for me. All the Obama supporters I know do seem a little defensive about the popularity of their man. Second doubts probably.

In answering a question, TG said, “there is a CHANCE [by implementing this Plan that] our [Economic] system could end up [becoming] weaker.” So guess what folks, we have been WARNED(and the warning came from the horses mouth)!!

Regarding ONE of the reasons PeBO’s “Job Approval” numbers are sinking, check out this very interesting site:

President Clinton had lower approval ratings

The Fraud Bush, I guess that is who you are referring to as a fraud, after the STOLEN elections, had lower approval ratings.

President Barack Obama (still sounds good doesn’t it), has higher approvals and the worst economy to deal with out of all of them.

What counts is the election adn there remains not a snowball in hells chance that Rethugs will make any progress before 2012, never mind 2010.

UK, Bill Clinton left office with 65% approval and that was after a over a million dollars had been spent investigating him. In a few months, it wouldn’t surprise me to see someone raising funds to investigate Obama. I’ll donate!

      • andrew191

We don’t necessarily hate him. If he were in a proper setting that more accurately reflected his mental state, an asylum perhaps, I’m sure most of us would have genuine sympathy for him. I think I can safely claim that many of us HATE the fact that 69,000,000 people were so incredibly stupid that they put an obviously unqualified, mendacious, and mentally unstable fraud, in the most powerful position in the world. We hate what the bastard is capable of doing to this country. And I hate fools that think it’s just about a personal hatred for 0bama and not about a love for our country.

        • AOK

Are you sure about that? From reading this post, it sounds like you are the one in need of a psychiatric evaluation. But don’t worry, President Obama is working on universal health care. You’ll get the attention you need. I promise.

          • andrew191

Well, if your promises are anything like 0bama’s, I’m sure it will never happen.

Your personal attack and pointless style of response is a sure indicator that it is effortlessly easy to get under your thin skin. Ironically, I’m sure that it is next to impossible for reason to penetrate your thick skull.

Great editorial. My favorite line from it in reference to the celebrity of Obama:

And Hillary’s 3:00 AM call has come and it seems no one is in the White House to take it–with any Leadership Qualities, that is.

The moment Arianna Huffington (who was educated in Oxford and London School of Economics) starts belittling the Obummer Messiah is the moment of Epiphany at last of the Obamabots who brought us into this mess. Maybe someone ought to tell them that the 2008 presidential campaign is over. And that if they’re thinking about 2010, this is precisely what failed to work for them in 2008.

What the republicans need to do is obvious: Tell the American people specifically what they would do differently, and clearly explain why that would work better.

      So why aren’t they?

      • Ferd Berfle

Maybe someone ought to tell them that the 2008 presidential campaign is over.

So why are you here, botboy? Your clueless blathering only makes you look demented since we aren’t going to change our patriotism to your brand of cultish fawning. • AOK

Real talk Ferd. He asked a serious question. Why all the outrage at the president when the opposition party have provided no real alternatives to his budget proposals? They simply just say it won’t work with no explanation as to why and repeat Rush’s and Hannity’s talking points of socialism and whatnot. Why only limit the criticism to the president, when the congress is standing around with their heads up their asses? America works correctly when all branches government are on the same page. In case you haven’t noticed, they aren’t.

That point is correct. Let’s start with the socialistic executive branch and work from there.

The most glaring branch to not work is the Executive Branch.

AOK, I don’t pay much attention to what any pol is saying. I don’t care which party inflicts them on the American people. I don’t listen to Limbaugh, Hannity, Mathews or Olbermann. Now with respect to your questions about outrage? Some of us have been outraged for a long time ( at least seven years ) and what I am paying attention to is the hypocrisy and lies coming from Washington. If Obama wants to be a silly, giggling socialite, avoiding questions and parsing his words, he should resign now, make a fortune writing books and giving speeches and let someone serious and qualified provide the leadership we need RIGHT NOW!

            • AOK

Why? Just because the guy laughed at a question? Are you serious? You people are trying to hold this guy to ridiculous standards simply because Hillary didn’t win. I can guarantee that she won, you’d be giving her all the room she needed to succeed or fail. And would be defending her to the death, even if she was a failure. 60 days in and he’s not qualified because he’s human? It’s hard to have intelligent and honest conversations with people when emotions cloud their judgment. Obama is leading, you’re just too distracted by pining for Hillary and what might have been to notice.

              • http://deleted Buzz Latte

Cite examples of Obama’s leadership and just exactly what the outcomes of those leadership moments have been.

Since you’re so knowledgeable here is your opportunity to show off you immense understanding of the effectiveness of the Obama leadership.

Let’s start with the Budget. Please explain why Obama is right and all those with economics and finance degrees, experience in the field, and miles of credentials are all wrong.

Do not try to predict the financial future. The cold hard mathematical theories are needed here.

              • elise

I’m certainly “pinning” for Hillary, AOK. I’m not going to engage in a name-calling, who can be the most insulting contest with you or anyone else. I recently had my first face to face discussion with a real bot and it made me realize several things. Some will defend anything he does or says. If you ask, “What about FISA, Public Financing, Faith Based Initiatives, having all troops out of Iraq in sixteen months, outrage over bonuses his Sec. of Treasury facilitated, it doesn’t matter. Bots will argue there is transparency and in the next sentence say they don’t expect a politician to be perfect. Intelligent people will point to some of the measures in the stimulus bill which can lead to new jobs and at the same time ignore the billions spent on projects to pay back unions or groups for their support (pay to play the Chicago Way). Some still believe his campaign was financed by $10-20 donations and ignore the real numbers. I believe any president should be required to answer questions and take responsibility for their decisions and Obama does neither. It is important they always be challenged by a free and independent press and the people. The press in this country helped to elect him and they are going to “do their best to make sure he’s a success” so it’s up to us to force accountability. I am not simply judging him on the last two months. I am thinking about every backtrack and lie I have heard for the last two years. He is silly and he is dishonest.

After only two months of the Obama presidency, Americans are horrified, angry, depressed, and on the verge of full-scale revolt against the president and his toadying Socialist acolytes for doing their best to destroy our once-vibrant economy, inflict decades of debt on our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and usher in what historians will surely record as The Age of The Hubristic and Incompetent Presidency.

This assessment is borne out by polls, man-and-woman-in-the-street interviews, escalating unemployment figures, and creeping inflation which threatens to become the hyperinflation that will put the final nail in an economy that up until 2006 – when the Democrats took control of the Congress – was on a consistently upward trajectory, with unprecedentedly low unemployment, and hard-working Americans enjoying the fruits of their labors.

But all that changed when an inexperienced novice from the Chicago Machine offered “hope” and “change” to an electorate that had been brainwashed by a leftist media to believe that President Bush had lost the war in Iraq (wrong…we won!), instituted “unfair” policies toward our enemies via the Patriot Act, Gitmo, rendition, et al. (which kept us safe!), and supported an “unfair” free-market economy (which kept about 92 percent of Americans flourishing!).

Yet in a mere two months, our radical leftwing president has:

        * Demoralized our heroic troops with drastic cuts to our military budget.
        * Threatened to force our injured heroes to pay their own healthcare expenses – since rescinded, but don’t count on that lasting.
        * Compromised our national security by closing Gitmo with no plan for where the released terrorists will go.
        * Mandated his kill-as-many-unborn-infants-as-possible agenda by overturning the Mexico City Policy.
        * Rewarded Hamas terrorists with $900 million to replenish their killing machine against Israel.
        * All-but bankrupted our economy and left future generations with mountains of debt.
        * Proposed a “domestic security force” – complete with uniforms – that reeks of the Third Reich’s Brown Shirts.
        * Launched his Acorn cronies to foist a “Pledge to Obama” – not to America – on the public.
        * Unleashed an army of incompetents to deal with our economic and financial problems.

Yet Obama persists in supporting those incompetents – and the tax cheats – who surround him.

Why? I suspect that Obama’s destroy-America agenda is to actualize his long-time hatred of the American way of life in order to convert America’s exceptionalism into the documented history of Socialism’s lengthy history of drastic failures.

    Loved Susan’s link above!@

I agree with the Ass.Dean of Boston U. when he says (Boston Herald -Susan’s link)”

“Obama should not be in front of a Camera.
The president should be in front of a Spreadsheet”!!!

  • http://Obamanomics Oisafraud

    IT TIME TO RECALL OBAMA.

    IT’S TIME TO RECALL OBAMA.

    • AOK

Presidents can’t be recalled. Only impeached. Next.

      • I’mFedUp

He’ll be impeached. No problem there. And he will get his “three hots and a cot” at Joliette Prison. You need to go run and cash that Bot paycheck quickly…haven’t you heard? Your fraudulent boss is destroying America and those ten bucks won’t be worth a piss soon.

        • AOK

For arguments sake, what crime will he be impeached for? Please explain.

          • I’mFedUp

He’s a C-R-I-M-I-N-A-L and FRAUD. Buh Bye Fraudbama. By the way, I think his “owners” are already disgusted by him and they will be the ones to hand him his walking papers. He’s an imbecile. So are you for supporting (lying for) him.

            • AOK

Seriously, I need actual crimes and not ones made up by anonymous numbnut bloggers. Prove you case. If you can’t, please refrain form making accusations without had evidence to back them up. It makes you seem, oh I don’t know, less than credible.

              • I’mFedUp

AOK…Can you read? ROFLMAO. I don’t have to prove anything to an Obutt troll. He’s a criminal period.

If you don’t like RECALL, how about this qualifier for impeach:

        INDICT

      • andrew191

Since hasn’t quite finnished screwing the country, and since he has never proven conclusively that he’s Constitutionally qualified to be POTUS, maybe we can get an anullment.

      • kinthenorthwest

If someone would get to the questions of his past; such as all his name changes, birthplace and etc. They could probably impeach him.

Or render the contract null and void.

Berg gets his day in court, by the way and Orly Taitz personally handed the legalities questions to Roberts in Idaho.

    Tick, tick, tick.

  • AOK

I can’t believe that you are still talking about COLB issue. It’s like I’m dealing to 5 year olds. I’m going to bed. This way is too easy…..

    • I’mFedUp

Trust me, we don’t like cleaning up Bot Crap on the floor so Buh-Bye and you really don’t have to come back. Yeah, yeah, it’s a paycheck. Can’t you go elsewhere to work it?
