Clinton Backer Points to Electoral College Votes as New Measure — Senator Evan Bayh of Indiana, who backs Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for president, proposed another metric Sunday by which superdelegates might judge whether to support Mrs. Clinton or Senator Barack Obama.

Yesterday I ran into three Obama supporters in church who were now feeling very edgy and concerned. It is difficult for anyone to admit that they may have had it wrong, but I truly admire the courage and wisdom of those who are asking the hard questions of someone they now realize they did not know as well as they thought they did. None of these folks is ready to start campaiging for Hillary, but they all want to take a much closer look at her. I told them that they might be pleasantly surprised.

Tricia – It’s amazing how the more people get to know Hillary, the more they realize she is nothing like the cartoon villain she is cast as in the corporate media. She is my Senator, and I’ve always been almost 100% happy with her voting record. Pretty good for a lefty like me!

One of the reasons I think Obama has been so successful in giving Senator Clinton devil horns and himself a halo is because the media is so happy to say nasty things about Hillary. She and Bill broke through the plutocratic membrane encasing the White House, after all – “they trashed the place, and it wasn’t their place,” according to the punditocracy. Meanwhile, Obama has signaled from the beginning that he is one of them, with his bullshit “unity” message.

How could anyone want to unite with this guy? He is slime personified. I hope to Jeebus that he is not the nominee, because I don’t think anything will really change under his administration, and I really don’t want to vote for him in November.

He’d still be better than McCain, though…I’ve got to keep that in mind for my own sanity.

Obama pushed a message of unity and has done the opposite at every chance he has been given.

McCain is not an “unknown”, and if I had to choose it would not be about my sanity but survival. For me, Obama appeals to none of these.

How many times has McCain flip-flopped on Bush’s tax cuts? (He’s for keeping the ones to the super-rich now. Awesome!)

Is it okay that he signed up for public financing and has now exceeded the limits? For it before he was against it?

What about the lobbyist scandal? He doesn’t work with lobbyists – except for the ones he does?

These are just a few examples of how McCain is an unprincipled liar who will do anything to win the nomination. But even worse, he is Bush 3.0.

McCain has promised us “more wars, my friends” and “Iraq for 100 years.” He wants to “bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran.” He admits he doesn’t know much about the economy, and recently couldn’t tell Sunni from Shi’a until Joe Lieberman helped him out. (Ewwwwwwww….)

I truly dislike Obama, and I understand how people feel here, but there is no way in hell I would ever vote for McCain. Bush would still be president! Isn’t eight years of hell enough?

Don’t fall for the media spin on McCain. Check out his voting record. (This site, Progressive Punch, is non-partisan and merely analyzes and compares Congressional votes with progressive positions on the bills voted upon.)

McCain’s progressive rating is 13.69%. Hillary Clinton’s is 91%, and Barack Obama’s is 88%.

McCain is for torture, telecom immunity, the Unitary Executive and Iraq ForEvah. Oh, and let’s not forget what he said about how he’d nominate Supreme Court Justices that were just like Scalia and Alito. Ladies, say goodbye to your wombs – they don’t belong to you, they belong to the gummint!

Funny, the old Right Wing line on Hillary was that she was a man-eater who was practically co-President during the Clinton years, constantly involved in everything on a policy level (as I heard more than once, “Who elected her co-president, anyway?”).

That’s an “inconvenient” line of attack now, so they’re trying to make her Laura Bush instead.

The MCM used to complain about Hillary’s First Lady trips because they seemed to be more than just sight-seeing junkets (“Who elected her co-President, anyway?”). Her trips constantly involved high-level briefings before, during, and after. With the Clintons, one has to realize that they have been a political team working for progressive goals since 1972 +/-.

Her Senate career has shown an ability to work in the trenches, not simply grab other’s work and stick your name to it. She even has shown the ability to A) Hold committee meetings, B) Master the voting panel at her Senate desk… both skills that seem to evade Sen. Obama.

Where the *UCK was Obama on Sep 12, 2001? Was he at Ground Zero doing anything he could to help? Did he make any public statements regarding Rev Wright’s Comments at that time?

Kevin: I don’t know where you have been blogging or what you have been reading, but most Hillary supporters can easily list her many and varied accomplishments, starting with the Children’s Defense Fund in her 20′s. She has worked tirelessly for children, women, the disabled, and the poor, human rights, economic incentives in rural communities (bringing micro loans to Arkansas 30 years ago with recent Nobel Prize winner Yunus), prison and education reform, veteran’s, National Guard and 9/11 First Responders’ health care and employment benefits, etc. etc. She has also served on the Armed Services Committee for 6 years. Nobel winner John Hume, Gerry Adams, George Mitchell and Irish Prime Minister Ahern all praise her decade of work promoting peace in Northern Ireland (they all discredited the Obama camp’s criticism of this), and the list goes on. As far as vetting goes–I don’t think anyone can claim that Hillary has not had every aspect of her life thoroughly examined. Obama has been an unknown, and as the illusion becomes dispelled and people realize he is just a human being, not a savior, they will be disappointed. You may not support Clinton, but if you did your research, you could not deny her work ethic and long list of accomplishment. That is just a distortion to discredit her, because Obama has little experience to promote.

I was visiting some friends in Berkeley this past weekend who voted for Hillary, and they told me many of their neighbors who voted for Obama have buyer’s remorse. This Reverend Wright thing really shook them up. They said that their street was covered in Obama signs two weeks ago. We walked up and down the block, and there were no signs left. Berkeley is very progressive, so this is a very interesting sign that the SD’s better understand. Buyer’s Remorse is happening in the most progressive places in America.

Almost at every turn he has pandered to some form of conservative ideology. He has free traders for advisers. He advocated NRA talking points in Idaho. I have been wracking my brain trying to figure out why progressives would go for Obama, and all I can think of is the high school factor.

the campaign is turning on Wright’s outlandish anti-American statements and Obama’s tepid reaction to them. Obama seems flummoxed by the complexities of the racial polarization he promised to heal and the party is being divided in a way that could sink him. He’s even making things worse for himself as his silver tongue has gotten tied in knots.

Polls in Pennsylvania and nationally show that Obama’s otherwise-thoughtful speech last week failed to solve the political problem Wright created. Whites are shifting to Clinton or, in hypothetical general election matchups, to McCain. For those voters, Wright is a clear yes or no question. Trying to split the difference, however amiably, as Obama did by rejecting Wright’s most inflammatory comments while also sympathetically explaining them and equating them to white frustrations, created a muddle that has reinforced doubts about Obama’s convictions and values.

In the short run, Clinton obviously benefits in the nomination fight. But she shouldn’t get too comfortable. For Obama’s problems with Wright will become her problems if she makes the same mistake of not being forceful enough about her own values. The same kinds of voters – working-class whites in swing states – who are shunning Obama will abandon her if she takes the standard, Democratic, politically correct course and coddles Wright and his poison.

So far she chose to stay out of Wright issue which I think it’s the best thing to do. This might results in her losing some swing voters for which I haven’t seen any sign. On the other hands, if she chose to take an active stand against Obama on Wright issue, she WILL lose more votes due to the media and Obama campaign spin to pin this issue on her.

Taking the high road is the only way to go.

My view of it is that she is taking no position at all on Wright at this minute. And she shouldn’t. Wright is Obama’s problem, not hers. Rasmussen’s Wright poll showed that even 58% of the AA vote found him racially divisive and deeply offensive.

First, the difference between Falwell, Rush et. al. is that they did not mentor a presidential candidate for 20 years. See? He was one of Obama’s closest advisers, not some preacher or talk show host spouting garbage. That’s the frightening part–if Obama was so influenced by this man, as he admits, then how could he not be affected by his ideology?

If we found out Edwards or Hillary or Biden spent 20 years in close relationship with a white supremacist, that too would be cause for grave concern. You can argue and sputter all you want, but the damage is done. Everyone knows it in their gut, and the image of Wright is not going away. The only question now is if the party leadership has the guts to step in, because there is no way that Obama has a chance against McCain now–polls or no polls. It’s sad, but undeniable.

Kevin: p.s. The idea that his speech was “courageous” is also bunk. Like everything else, it’s just another speech. His opposition to the war was just a speech, and he did nothing to oppose it after that. He only stepped forward to speak about race, and it IS an issue that this country desperately needs to deal with, because his back was against the wall after trying to hide Wright for a year. He is a political opportunist, not a visionary leader and uniter as he says. The fall is hard, I’m sure, but you can only deny the facts for so long. His record is clear, and the spotlight on his record and past is only beginning to shine. I shudder to think of what the Republicans will do if he is the nominee–it will be ugly.

Thinking about the comments of Gen. McPeak, believe it would beneficial to point out that Senator Obama does NOT believe in Democratic party.

I have come to the conclusion that had BO arrived in Chicago with a Republican patron, he would be a Rebuplican. The only two thing’s Obama is colorblind about, money and what “political opportunity is in it for me”.
It matters not what party he is in and I believe he could care less. Add in his social views and behavior towards women as objects, his neo-political influences and inclination to denigrate as a way of advancing his position is a sign of a novice. BO’s complete lack of experience in so many areas including military affairs can not be glossed over.
We have born witness to the “gut instincts” of GW the II and look for a way out of the abyss.
Experience informs judgement. Obama is lacking on both and demonstrates this several times a week.

If perception devoid of the facts is the coin of the realm, Obama is a rich man.

Another thing that has been really bugging me is all this talk about the Clinton’s sense of entitlement. As if Obama does not exhibit overwhelming entitlement?! He has only been in the Senate 2 years and he thinks he deserves to be president?!! The arrogance and smugness of this man has always bothered me. In the debates, his attitude and lack of knowledge was, for me, weaker than any of the other candidates. Hillary Clinton HAS earned this after almost 40 years of public service work. I am so tired of the repeatedly disproven meme about her “lack of experience.” If you read anything about this woman you cannot deny her unbelievable work ethic. I saw her speak in a nearby town several years ago: she gave a talk at a luncheon, rode on a bus that broke down for 3 hours during a 100+ degree heat wave. Showed up late for our gathering with many people waiting, and gave a dynamic speech in front of an old historic building being renovated, and then left at around 5p.m. to go to a public dinner for another event. I thought to myself: “Who works like this?! She could be making millions in some blue chip firm or on a corporate board somewhere.” Actions, not words. That’s always the true barometer of character.

You’ve got to be kidding me?! First of all, hmmmm… considering the source of the quote (goes ballistic) ya might want to actually take the characterization with a grain of salt (that is if you’re actually interested in an unbiased take on the issue(s)).

“Brute force” politics? Give it a rest, what the heck do you think Hillary and her campaign have been trying to do? LOL – first it was the super delegates, then it was the popular vote, then it was the size of the states won; and now we’re back to a variation on a theme.

Hillary goes after Obama on their real differences, that may matter to voters or may not matter. She respects him as a person but she presents him as less prepared for the job. He goes after her on her ‘character,’ who she is as a person, and he has support from those who already don’t like her and/or who already are misogynist. He stokes Hillary hate, and it’s divisive. I’d like to like him, I hope he knows better and is just using this as a way to win, what he calls Chicago slap down, but he’s running on this hate and he’s inspiring bullies. I don’t like it and worse, I think it’s gratuitous. He has an okay message but he’s not good at articulating it, or it’s not good enough to win on, so he takes the low road. There are more women, and we’ve all pretty much experienced someone using prejudice against us to make their case as ‘better.’ It’s old, and it’s ugly. It’s certainly true that African Americans have experienced being the foil to some immigrant groups who first got ahead by being ‘not black,’ and so there is some ironic justice that he’s doing this with women, who have more ‘negatives’ regarding leadership polls than most other protected minorities. Or maybe all? But because it’s been done to you, over and over, isn’t a reason to do the same thing, even were this necessary for him to win.

That’s exactly how I felt until last week: bullied by the press and by the Obama supporters. Suddenly, I don’t feel like I have to keep it a secret that I voted for Hillary. I’m proud to support her and happy that I haven’t seen the vitriolic hatred from us that I’ve seen from them. Even in my own family, my husband and I were called “stupid” for voting for her. At the end of the day, I can only try to conduct myself with dignity and class and not worry about what they do to themselves. Because all this hatred is only going to eat away at them. At the end of the day, no matter who wins or loses, I can live with myself and my behavior. Can they?

Kevin: last futile attempt to talk to you as a human being. I gave you a whole list of Hillary’s documented experience above in a calm, clear way. Didn’t you read it or are you only hear to act like a child? That’s why Clinton supporters are so negative (now) about Obamotons–they ARE like robots, repeating the same programmed lines over and over again. You can’t talk issues, because you don’t really know the issues or are defensive because Obama doesn’t really have any substance. His policy positions are mostly pirated from Hillary and her advisers anyway. That’s why he always stumbles during the debates–because he doesn’t have a command of the policies. He is best giving a speech to a large audience who doesn’t ask for depth. That can only last so long, as we are seeing now. You need to grow up. And that’s the last time I am going to address you or read anything you have to say–it’s a waste of time. Here is something that seems to go un-noticed, but is constantly spoken of by Obama, and was spoken of in his so called MAJOR SPEECH ON RACISM but having checked out his speeches when googling it, a constant thing is in them! He promotes his books!

I consider what McPuke said about Bill Clinton much worse than Bill’s failure to mention Obama in a speech about Hillary’s chances against McCIan. The Clintons do not have to praise Obama in every speech they give and they are not obligated to tout his candidacy every time they compare Hillary against McCain.

Obama has given lots of speeches comparing himself against McCain without mentioning that Hillary is more qualified than either one of them.

The point I keep making about this is: if Obama is so hypersensitive to every perceived slight, how can anyone expect him to manage himself on an international stage with fierce and aggressive opponents. He’s so whiny–he has not strength for the position. Hillary has clearly proven she has the stamina and toughness to deal with anything. She is formidable, and I am here to declare without reservation that I AM A PASSIONATE AND UNAPOLOGETIC SUPPORTER OF HILLARY CLINTON!!

I had an idea a while ago, and saw it on another site: someone should make a video based on the old Kirk Douglas movie, “Spartacus,” with women of all ages and cultures, standing up and declaring, “I AM HILLARY CLINTON!” Hey, come to think of it–include men too!

John: This crap about “doing anything to win” is also ridiculous. She is only behind by 1% of the vote, and millions have voters have not yet spoken. Also, why shouldn’t she play to win?! Do we want someone who will quit? If she were a man, they would praise his determination. And as far as “attacking Obama,” she could have used the Wright controversy, or gone after any number of Obama’s weaknesses, and instead, she has repeatedly challenged him on his lack of experience (which is completely legitimate and necessary–because McCain will be all over it) and inconsistent record. That is what a campaign is all about. And she is not “stealing” the election with superdelegates–they were created to make a judgment based on electability. These arguments are all diversions, and the memo on her site addressing all these myths articulated it perfectly. We just have to stay focused on the goal, and help her any way we can. She doesn’t flinch, so neither should we.

What new campaign theme has Obama brought out: what new aspect of his record has been released that gives one yet another reason to vote for him?
Haven’t we heard all the arguments already? The only information coming out these days is negative.
Hillary’s record is long enough and rich enough that there is always something more to say. For example, how many people know that she took on the Reagan administration and WON in 1981? The budget for the legal services foundation of which she was chair was to be cut, and she stopped the cuts.
How about Ireland? The current Prime Minister says that Hillary made a huge difference.

Obama’s record is tapped out, and he’s obviously not going to be adding to it through Senate actions in the next few months.

The same way 90% of blacks here in America voted for Obama. It’s something deeply rooted in their identities. It seems only the Europeans and us “white gelded bullocks” have been the only ones to “assimilate” other races and “cherish” other cultures and religions after 40 years of unrelenting socialist conditioning, political correctness, and multi-culturalism…so much so that we are marching like lemmings to our own destruction!

Sad as it is. In the world we have wrought with our cowardice and complacency. The valiant Lebanese 300 are on their own. Not even Israel, which has been so maligned in the past for intervening in Lebanon, and which is tired of so much fighting for its very survival for sixty years, will come to their rescue this time…
