UPDATE: Look at Hillary. Listen to Hillary. I rest my case. (You’ll find several more substantive news videos featuring Hillary Clinton newly added to the post at 8:20 p.m., and another of Michelle today disembarking the plane in London.) Ginger sent me the embed code! Thanks!

Foreword: I defend this post because the entire Obama perpetual campaign machine is predicated on appearance, not reality. E.g., the firing of GM’s Rick Wagoner was not rational, as Larry Johnson pointed out yesterday:
The firing of Rick Wagoner was not made for any rational economic reason. This is pure politics, designed in part to portray Barack as a tough guy who is taking charge on the eve of his international debut at the G20 summit. …
Never mind that it abruptly interrupts the intense planning GM has undertaken to meet a deadline of 60 days and counting. It was an viciously audacious, and perhaps unconstitutional, move of a “unitary executive” Obama who makes Bush look tame. Obama didn’t even confer with a single member of Congress from Michigan. So much for those quaint branches of government. But back we go to Michelle:
Let us pray that the longtime, expert White House protocol staff members have been permitted to dispense the must-needed advice she’ll require in order to be suited to step up onto the “world stage.”
In the video below, you see the tacky faux royale outfit — Inaugural, wasn’t it? Worn daytime? NO, NO, NO! — that “costume” looks like it came from the 70% off sale rack at Fashion Bug or Alley Cat Boutique:
Those arms! What IS this? Is it because it’s the only body part that is … honestly, that is petty, Susan … but, come on! Enough already with the arms.
And what in the name of god great couture – Valentino, Norell, Dior, Chanel, Balenciaga and Halston – is that obsequiously decorative but tacky outfit, obviously intended to make her appear queenly but which sadly makes her look seedy.
Mrs. Obama requires a tastemaker not just for her food but for her wardrobe.
Almost all First Ladies have shown basic good taste, from Jacqueline Kennedy to Laura Bush.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s outfits are so invariably appropriate and smart-looking that we scarcely notice them. The handsome black pants suit she wore to Mexico showed off not just the pounds she’s clearly lost, but also her cultured sense of decorum and a subtle sophistication.
But there is an inappropriately gaudiness to Mrs. Obama’s choices that reveal a lack of discernment in how she comes across and which will doubtless be noticed by the aesthetes of Europe in the coming days.
Look at the tasteful simplicity of Hillary’s appearance in this video below. She has sufficient self-confidence to avoid Michelle’s error in adorning herself with vulgar bejeweled assemblages of cloth.
Look at Sarkozy’s wife, Carla Bruni:

Taste. If you don’t have it, listen to experts and other women and men who do have it.

She is having, or has had, a private audience with the Queen. I doubt, sadly, that we’ll ever learn what the Queen’s impressions were.
