“Bush Praises America’s Giving Spirit”
(story)
Yup. We Americans give alright. $20,000 and counting per family for the Iraq War, higher gas prices every day, dangerous toys that can kill our children, lower wages, medical care we can’t afford, people who hate us more and more around the world, the guilt from having killed a hell of a lot of people we didn’t need to, the prospect of having to send troops into Pakistan, and on and on…. [LATE UPDATE: I neglected to include this in the list: "Our children isn't learning."]
But, most of all, we’d like to give it to you.
Anything else going on?
OMG. Have any of you seen Mike Huckabee’s Chuck Norris ad? Amateur time?

Susan,
where o where are the putins of the world, especially when our america could sure use one. sadly we’re being led down the garden path by a burning bush with a brain the size of a peanut. where o where are the putins who use their brains and save their nation from despair, cauze the way its lookin, we america sure could use one right about now before the burning bush with a god complex flames out and takes us right along with it.
How about Thomas Friedman’s Flathead article suggesting that Obama choose Dick Cheney as his Veep candidate? Reminds me of that old joke:
Democrat #1: “How come we’re running Cheney for Veep and the Republicans are running Satan?”
Democrat #2: “Because THEY won the coin toss, darnit! Any fool knows that Cheney is the Kiss of Death.”
Ufuuuuufffffff! Thanks Montag. I had managed up to now to get through the whole day without thinking about that puffed up, self-important great empty bag of hot gaseous substance, Tom Friedman.
TeeHee Susan. Nuff said I think. It would be funny if it weren’t so sad
Susan:
on the one side..
we have lost the art of diplomacy
We have lost the respect of the world
We have lost our leadership position
We have losing on the global warming issues
We are losing in our energy programs and vision.
And to quote REM.. we are losing our religion..

on the other side..
We stand poised to reclaim the executive branch
We can heal the divisions
We can restart diplomacy
We can save the environment
Technology can resolve the energy crisis
( invest in the future…conserve energy..Sell your friggin SUV you use to drive alone 30 minutes to work..I read this in the indy star a few years ago..
They asked some lady about the price of gas and driving gas guzzlers..this lady said..I swear to god..’ I’m an american, it’s my right to drive a gas guzzler’ that about says it all.)

Here is my little story for the day…and yes, it’s a true story…
Last night at about 3:45am my wife woke up unable to sleep..i asked her if she was alright.. yea i was watching law&order on the tube, munching on some cherry garcia ice cream..( hey..i run it off.)
She said she was worried about Jordan and kept dreaming about Jordan and went downstairs..
Not 5 minutes later she came running upstairs with the phone yelling ‘it’s jordan..it’s jordan!!’
Sure enough that link between mother and son is there.
Of course we wake the whole house up in the middle of the night and everybody spent about an hour excitely chatting with jordan. It was better than any Christmas morning..That is our little miracle this morning..all day long we regale his stories he told us and what he is doing over and over amoungst ourselfs..he is in the rear right now on a little break from falluja..etc etc…all day we all are smiling and in a great mood that we only feel every week or two. God willing we will continue in this mode until he comes home april 30th 2008.
Tell Jordan to do what these folks are doing and come home safe
This is another reason soldiers aren’t dying
WATERTOWN, New York - Iraq war veterans now stationed at a base here in upstate New York say that morale among US soldiers in the country is so poor, many are simply parking their Humvees and pretending to be on patrol, a practice dubbed “search and avoid” missions.
Phil Aliff is an active duty soldier with the 10th Mountain Division stationed at Fort Drum. He served nearly one year in Iraq from August 2005 to July 2006, in the areas of Abu Ghraib and
Other active duty Iraq veterans tell similar stories of disobeying orders so as not to be attacked so frequently.
“We’d go to the end of our patrol route and set up on top of a bridge and use it as an over-watch position,” Eli Wright, also an active duty soldier with the 10th Mountain Division, told IPS. “We would just sit with our binoculars and observe rather than sweep. We’d call in radio checks every hour and say we were doing sweeps.”
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/IJ26Ak07.html
LT Col Winters in Band of Brothers talked about a point in the war where “you did not want to do anything” to not come home safely…
>>> “We’d go to the end of our patrol route… and say we were doing sweeps.”
Aw, I thought my battalion invented this technique back in the late 60’s. After all, NOBODY wanted to be The Last Man to Die in Vietnam…
And this practice has the added benefit of saving thousands of Iraqi lives, and limbs, and reducing the destruction wrought by American troops in their daily “activities”.
There’s always global warming:

….and yes..I ran the cherry Garcia off this morning.
Save some for Jordan!
(That’s one of my favs too but I haven’t bought it in years … it’s so decadent. You must be decadent, HH. But with a Lutheran (or?) streak that makes you feel guilty for eating it and so you run it off.)
Cherry Garcia has nothing on Strawberry Cheesecake or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough!
Oh hell, let’s just all go see “Beowulf” and eat lots of popcorn. Will it matter if we don’t? (I often wonder about that — does all our worrying, fretting, reading, discussing get us anywhere at all?)
Beowulf sounds completely dreadful from the critics’ reviews, and I can’t believe it got #1 at the box office except that maybe moviegoers wanted to wear those 3D glasses and also want to see Angelina Jolie’s body.
Sure it gets us somewhere…we let off steam with each other where we feel safe.
Beowulf looks awful in the trailers too. What else is playing? I’m particular where I eat fake buttered popcorn.
“No Country For Old Men”
Now that’s a movie, and I can’t wait to see it. Every critic is profoundly taken with it; some have seen it twice. The Coen brothers have even outdone “Fargo,” I hear.
Ever read Cormac McCarthy’s novels? Violent as hell. I haven’t read “No Country For Old Men,” but have read his masterpiece, “Blood Meridian,” which Harold Bloom says is the greatest American novel of the 20th century. Someone is actually making a movie of “Blood Meridian,” which I find hard to believe. The necessary depictions of the violence would give any filmmaker pause. We shall see. (My daughter has read every one of McCarthy’s novels, and we can’t figure out how they can do “Blood Meridian.” Oh well. In the meantime, we can treat ourselves to “No Country For Old Men.”)
I’ll have to skip ‘ no country..’ Sounds like a bloody movie and all i watch is comedy.
The Kids watch everything..bloody, gory, action..
We have that Holleywood video thing that for a flat rate you can rent as many movies as you want.. I’ll let you in on a little secret..
With 4 boys and 2 girls always have plenty of movies in the house or available for them…
In the winter time you have no idea how many fights lots of movies prevented…And trust me.Them 4 young strapping boys loved to fight..alot…
So every so often they bring home a movie I’ll watch..Shooter was one..But that movie by Adam Sandler called ‘i now pronounce you Larry and chuck’ or whatever the name is..IS GREAT!!
I really laughed alot..Oh yea Shriek 3 was ok.
I like movies like ‘North Country’ also.
I bet you liked “Zoolander.” I did too
I fell asleep last night about where does it get us…We are not alone. The truth is out there.
Speaking of movies..Who is going to do the screen play for the Wilsons film?
Hi Susan! You left out a country so divided that even family members don’t talk much to each other because of what W has done.
Spoke at length with a very nice German lady a couple of days ago. She told me when Americans come over there that they try to hide the fat that they are Americans because of how much W is hated over there.
This in from MSNBC:
Males are simplier creatures……
“New research on fruit flies, detailed online last week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, finds males have fewer genetic obstacles to prevent them from responding quickly to selection pressures in their environments.
“It’s because males are simpler,” said lead author Marta Wayne, a zoologist at the University of Florida in Gainesville. “The mode of inheritance in males involves simpler genetic architecture that does not include as many interactions between genes as could be involved in female inheritance.”
There’s your proof ladies..as if you didn’t know already…
Yeah, but the ladies get all the good Shoes.
“A Florida man needs no introduction!”
I dunno about you, but I could use a shave and a haircut. I don’t think we’re importing those yet.
The goal was to turn the entire country into a service economy, and decimate our manufacturing base.
