Imagine If Bill Kristol Had Said This About Black Women

BILL KRISTOL: Look, the only people for Hillary Clinton are the Democratic establishment and white women. The Democratic establishment — it would be crazy for the Democratic Party to follow an establishment that’s led it to defeat year after year. White women are a problem, that’s, you know — we all live with that.

Have you heard any outrage from the media about Kristol’s statement about women? Sure, the Washington Post published an essay by Erica Jong today, but are Kristol’s extremely sexist and demeaning remarks on page A1, above the fold?

If Kristol had said that about black women, you can bet that the WaPo would have that on A1. Above the fold, for days as his explanations and rationalizations were dissected, and Fox News was pressed to FIRE him for his remarks. And similar coverage would be given by all the elite newspapers and cable news networks. You’d hear about it endlessly all day. For days. And demands for his firing would go on and on and on.

But because this is about “white” women, the protests are relegated to a few op-eds and some blogs.

You tell me that sexism is behind us. You just try.

Read Erica Jong’s essay today, “Hillary vs. the Patriarchy.”

And one of my new favorite blogs, Shakespeare’s Sister: “The Wrongest Guy Ever is Wrong Again.”

HERE IS why I am proud of my female candidate:

Women are of no threat to the establishment, no threat at all.

I may be wrong, but I’m pretty sure that if Bill Kristol had said on FOX News Sunday that Obama lacked support beyond any particular group and black men there would be a kerfluffle in Left Blogostan that would shock and awe us.

He’s fortunate in that he just said it about Hillary Clinton and white women. Because when it comes right down to it, or left down to it if you prefer, anything anyone says about Hillary, and now white women is okey dokey. Or it’s only a minor irritation and that only because Kristol is so universally loathed in Left Blogostan. But then so is Hillary Clinton.

Sexism dead? Not on your tintype Tillie as my Grandma used to say. It’s just that being a racist is not acceptable behavior and being a misogynist is.

It was a windup.

The last 15 years have seen women diminished by the right wing as feminazis, say, or porn stars.

Creating a Nazi porn star, I suppose.

I wonder if this has to do with Zionist neofeminist Nazi shoe thieves, and the new world order?

I’m kidding, the way they disingenuously drag in gender, so cleverly, under the radar, is barely worth a yawn.

Kristol has a track record of being correct in his analysis doesn’t he? I mean he has been correct about everything he has bloviated about for the last 20 years? The scribblings of a twit, even a twit with a nepotistic slot on some fish wrap’s editorial page, merit laughter. Treating him as a significant thinker is not good tactics and not good strategy.
It was indeed a windup, and predictably, it wound some folks up and thus diverted them from their fruitful efforts into a slough of stagnant water.

Comment by simon | 2008-02-04 14:13:46

I disagree, it was a hit, and should be addressed.

Sexism is very serious, dismissing morons isn’t’ always smart, witness the “there is no racism in America” meme the idiots also gave us.

Ancient propaganda technique, I’m very surprised it hadn’t occurred to the neocon rocket scientists the CIA, and the military, had it beat, years ago.

The best way to combat propaganda is with truth, Hiter’s methodology wasn’t exactly cutting edge.

So, you know, you just show him to be the fool he is, the crazy delusional fool.

Why do people even take him seriously?

Because a bunch of other morons gave him status?

I think the problem with us white women is obvious - we cry too much. Yes, folks, Hillary made the mistake of tearing up while listening to a long-time friend and supporter - a man, by the way - choke up while introducing her…

http://www.swamppolitics.com/news/politics/blog/2008/02/clinton_crys_in_connecticut.html

The long knives are already out, supposing that she is hoping that if tears worked before NH, imagine what it will do for her on Super Tuesday.

These are the devoted Barack Orgasma supporters trying to follow their leader’s calls for hope and unity; the irony is pretty rich isn’t it?

If he had said this about black women he’d be sitting on the pitty pot with Don Imus right now. Hillary is getting hit from all ends because she is a woman, not because her husband happens to be our former president.

Kristol was absolutely wrong.

But so was Jong in calling Obama a “token”.

Comment by simon | 2008-02-04 14:23:13

Why?

Explain why you think Jong was wrong?

Racism?

Really, what is your reasoning?

Without showing us your homework, you’re cheating.

Comment by Hope | 2008-02-04 16:39:25

He is a token. I agree with Erica. That is why there’s no serious vetting of him. Sad fact, but true.

“Men” (so-called) like Kristol are scared to death of intelligent, competent women like Hillary. All you have to do is watch them in action.

Simon was right. The only reason this is getting attention has to do with all the morons who support the Kristol’s of this world. It’s a Swift-boating, propaganda technique.

Tomorrow will tell us a great deal. One does have to wonder about this country sometimes, right?

Comment by simon | 2008-02-04 16:23:27

It’s more about the people who run this country, allowing men so, and excuse the word, but I cant really think of another, allowing men so treasonous to the ideals of American democracy set the agenda, at least for this short time.

It’s as if we have a bunch of spolied brats playing army, each thinking by denigrating another they gain advantage, but everybody loses in the long run.

Why do they study Hitler’s propaganda say, as opposed to Lincoln, or Eisenhower?

Lincoln and Eisenhower WON, Hitler lost.

So this says something else is at work here, something about the psyches of those men.

Comment by Hope | 2008-02-04 17:29:24

Yes, absolutely.

Michelle Obama Not Sure If She’d Support Hillary
by Jeff Dinelli
I mentioned this in Steve’s comment thread but this really needs more attention. Watch this video of Michelle Obama.

For those of you without YouTube access right now, here’s a rough transcript:

GMA: Could you see yourself working to support Hillary Clinton should she win the nomination?
MICHELLE OBAMA: I’d have to think about that. I’d have to think about that, her policies, her approach, her tone.
GMA: That’s not a given?
MICHELLE OBAMA: You know, everyone in this party is going to work hard for whoever the nominee is. I think that we’re all working for the same thing. and, you know, I think our goal is to make sure that the person in the White House is going to take this country in a different direction. I happen to believe that Barack is the only person who can really do that.

And, in comments:

FROM THE CHI SUN TIMES:
The Obama campaign has tapped Melissa Winter, a veteran of two presidential campaigns, to serve as her [Mrs. Obama] chief of staff in the campaign’s Chicago headquarters. For the last 10 years she has worked for Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), serving as his executive assistant. Winter was also was part of Lieberman’s 2004 Democratic primary bid.

Lieberman?

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, but it still squeezes out Cheney, and Bush.

Don’t expect much to change.

Unless Clinton wins.

Mr. Murder -

What did you expect- civility? Good manners? Common decency?

I love how, no matter how many Senators, Governors, and Congressmen endorse Obama, Hillary is still the “establishment candidate.”

Comment by Mike Howell | 2008-02-10 19:08:38

John -

I don’t get that either.

Is Bill Kristol all there? Why are white women such a problem for him? It reminds me of Ghostbusters:

“Yes, Your Honor, the Man has no dick”.

There’s a long list of things that I love about white women and I have no problem supporting Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Presidency.

Real men love Hillary Rodham Clinton.
