New Comments Feature at NoQuarter!
By SusanUnPC on February 18, 2008 at 8:24 AM in Open Thread
So many of you love to follow the “recent comments” in the right column. I checked with Moses, at your request, and found that 15 is the highest number of recent comments that we can display without considerable tweaking and subsequent server slowdown. However, Moses suggested a new plug-in many of you may enjoy. When you post a new comment in any of the threads, you’ll see this:
[CLICKABLE BUTTON] Subscribe to comments via email
You can also opt to click a button that allows you to see replies to your own specific comments (I think).
Let us know how this new feature works for you. We aim to please!
What else is going on in the world?
I’m about to don my asbestos suit and post the story just below over at DailyObama. Wish me luck. Snort. The ‘droids will attack with mindless ferocity.

Thanks Susan,
Should be a great way to keep track. Many of us put in links at the heat of discussion and then forget where we put them (Ahmm I’m guilty) This should make everything much easier

Much appreciated BTW!
Me like!
And our search engine is pretty darn good. Try it when you need to find something. It may not search comments though.
Susan,
The blog has been so busy that I’m sure I’ve pissed stuff the past few days.
The notify thingie is a nice feature.
oops…missed LOL
Works for me
Thanks!
Susan, If I understand this correctly it would severely limit roundtable discussion, which is one of the features I enjoy most at NQ. Many opinions are better than a few. Many opinions aid in taking the pulse of the community not just the few who will rush to post. In an attempt to create order an unintended censorship will take place. I vote NO.
I read your comment a couple times, and I don’t get what you’re concerned about … my understanding (if I’m getting your point) is that it just lets people know there are responses and lets them come to the site to read those responses. It’s one way to let people know there’s been new conversation. That’s all.
Guilt for hoggin’ up one of the precious 15 allowed posts, however, the proposed change would also disclose idenity (email addresses to specific persons)& as Hoosier Hoops has tried many times to warn you, there are some really crazy people on line. I like the freedom of anonymity & big tent discourse; also enjoy being prevy to side discussions, where some may find distraction, I find texture, side pocket depth & humor. What is being proposed is censorship in the name of order. If you want a debate team, why not just ask folks to sign up. Limiting someone like Cee’s comments to be heard by only one person, I think, would be a real loss.
I’ll ask Moses about the privacy issue.
Oh no. Her comment will be up! It’s just one more way to let people know if there’s a new comment in a thread. Then people have to come to the site to respond — they cant respond via email, unless I’m totally missing something. I’ve asked Moses to come here and respond to the concerns.
I’ve signed up for such services on other blogs — it just notified me there was a new comment/response to my comment.
Just to confirm what Susan says, it’s basically another option for readers of this blog, if you choose to subscribe to comments you will than receive instant notification via email once a new comment is posted.
You can subscribe/unsubscribe at any given time and you email add is never made public.
If you prefer to receive updates via RSS instead of email than you can do that too by
clicking this icon:
in the comment area.
THANK YOU, Moses! So your e-mail address won’t be exposed!
