About the Nation of Islam and Obama
By SusanUnPC on February 27, 2008 at 9:19 AM in Nation of Islam
Barack Obama has hired many staffers who are, or were, members of the Nation of Islam. And some claim that he could not win his Chicago district without the blessings of the Lewis Farrakhan-run Nation of Islam. More about that below. First, Jeralyn of TalkLeft — who is covering the Antoin Rezko federal trial in Chicago starting next week — has this to say in “The Ohio Debate’s Farakhan Segment” about Obama’s waffling response last night on Farrakhan’s passionate endorsement of him:
While many think Hillary’s distinction between denouncing and rejecting was artificial, Don Frederick at the LA Times disagrees. I think he makes a good case that Obama was waffling. Hillary just called him on it.
Jeralyn quotes the debate exchange:
Russert: “Do you reject his support?”
Obama: “Well, Tim, I can’t say to somebody that he can’t say that he thinks I’m a good guy.”
Jeralyn then quotes Frederick:
True enough, but probably not the answer most Jewish Americans wanted to hear. As a result, Obama risked creating the perception for some that he might be somewhat reluctant to completely throw overboard a controversial leader who is not without some stroke within the black community (witness the 1995 Million Man March).
Clinton clearly saw it that way, and sought to put Obama on the spot. She interjected that, during her initial Senate run in 2000, she was endorsed by a splinter party in New York that “was under the control of people who were anti-Semitic, anti-Israel. And I made it very clear that I did not want their support. I rejected it. … And there’s a difference between denouncing and rejecting.”
Obama responded: “I have to say I don’t see a difference between denouncing and rejecting.”
He needs to check a dictionary on that.
Consider the source, but this is interesting nonetheless (as are the photos, which show a rather angry-looking Michelle Obama):
[A] former Obama insider says that Obama’s sudden aversion to NOI and Farrakhan is belied by the fact that Obama employed and continues to employ several Farrakhan acolytes in high positions on his Illinois and U.S. Senate campaign and office staffs. I have verified that this person–who agreed to talk on the condition of anonymity–held a key position in the Obama campaign. The insider was so close to Senator Obama that they frequently personally discussed and exchanged direct e-mail messages on campaign and policy matters. This person is not connected with the Clintons and is not a disgruntled employee. [...]
The insider says he frequently objected to Mr. Obama’s placement of Cynthia K. Miller, a member of the Nation of Islam, as the Treasurer of his U.S. Senate campaign. When I contacted Miller, now a Chicago real estate agent, to verify whether she was a member of the Nation of Islam and whether she shared Louis Farrakhan’s bigoted views about Jews, she responded, “None of your business! Where are you going with this?” She said her resignation as Obama’s treasurer had nothing to do with her Nation of Islam ties. Then, she hung up.
The Obama insider says he also objected to Obama’s involvement with Jennifer Mason, whom he says is also a member of the Nation of Islam. Mason is Obama’s Director of Constituent Services in his U.S. Senate office and is also in charge of selecting Obama’s Senate interns. She did not respond to repeated calls for comment.
But it’s not just that he employed these individuals in positions of power in his office, it’s that when the former associate raised objections, he says Mr. Obama’s position was that he saw nothing wrong with the Nation of Islam and didn’t think it was a problem. If true–and the fact that Ms. Mason still holds her prominent Obama Senate staff position bears that out–Obama’s condemnation of Farrakhan, this month, is phony.
But the insider says there is more to it than that. Obama’s Illinois State Senate district consisted of prime Nation of Islam territory, including Hyde Park, home to Farrakhan’s mansion. It is not possible, Illinois politicos say, to win that district without the blessing of the NOI leader. NOI members, including consultant Shakir Muhammad, held important roles in the Obama state senate campaign. …
Regardless of the veracity of all of this, it is a concern. If nothing else, you can bet your bottom dollar that the GOP will be all over this if Obama is the nominee. And those viral e-mails? Millions of them will be sent out.
Then there’s Obama’s “profiles in courage” problem: As Jeralyn of TalkLeft points out, “[I]t shouldn’t be overlooked that the question was whether he would reject Farakhan’s support and it took Hillary calling him out to get him to answer.
“It took Hillary.”
As always.

“denouncing” = words, “rejecting” = action…

OldCoastie, that’s the big difference in a nutshell!
Susan I am glad you wrote this post. This is very personal for me at this time.
I am Jewish and I have a son who is deciding on what medical school to go to within the next few weeks. He has been willing to pass over several in the U.S. to go to the one in Tel Aviv. He has not yet made a final decision.
We supported him until I heard Obama, once again, utter those words of “no preconditions” on meeting all world leaders including Ahmadinejad. Then the realization that Obama could very well be President and do I want to risk my son’s life while Mr. On-the-job-training is singing Kumbaya while allowing this nut in Iran to plan his extermination of Israel.
You know - I usually try to see a positive in a group. One thing I will applaud is Louis Farakhan’s efforts to have his followers clean up, dress in suits, and foreswear drugs. He gave AA’s pride in who they are as individuals, and discussed personal responsibility of men within the family.
That is the good part.
The fact, since I was last aware of the NOI, that they have branched off into foreign policy - a field in which they have about as much experience and competence as Obama is very scary - especially since Foreign Policy WILL be front and center for the next few years.
The other thing that is reprehensible - is Obama once again saying one thing and doing the exact opposite. To wit, in all of Illinois, he could not people who have traveled, and done some improtant foreign policy activities? That’s pretty hard to believe. Saying he “denounces” their actions- and yet again these Senior Staff people remain employed!
Talk is Cheap - very cheap! Actions speak much louder and with greater volume.
The NOI clean act only goes as far as when you see what they did in my community.
Couple years ago a lady cop asked them to move out of the middle of the highway (they were handing out leaflets in traffic being a threat to everyone on the road, and even them). Their response? They grabbed her gun from it’s holster, then beat her so badly to break her back.
I don’t need to know from Chicago how bad NOI can be, I can see it in my backyard. The young lady cop? She’ll be disabled for life, too.
Dear god, Chris. That’s a horrible story. Thugs.
And handing out their propaganda like that is so dangerous of itself. I hate that. A few months ago, i sent off the two Mormon boys who knocked on my door and disturbed me, even though I have a “no solicitation” sign by my door. They told me they weren’t soliciting. I told them to leave immediately. True believers are so annoying and selfish and self-absorbed.
What? You did not pick up on the offer to get a few pairs of those Mormon magic underwear? Come on they are so Nifty SusanUnPC! Mittens Romney swears by them.
Tell me about it. Hi Susan! I see your “true believer” diary was deleted over at MyDD.
In the Bay Area NOI made huge news this year - a NOI outfit called “Your Black Muslim Bakery” murdered a local African American journalist named Chauncey Bailey because he was investigating their finances. In the fallout they’ve learned of years of incest, welfare fraud, unsolved murders, etc. It made the national news this year.
If Obama actually had to duke it out with Biden or Edwards or Dodd, man against man, Obama would have been bundled out by now. The competition dynamic has been messed up.
Obama is a GIRL, his wife is the man, in that family.
It’s why she’s so resentful of him.
Way to be so feminist! Fucking moron! You don’t even realize what a complete hypocrite you are.
Hooray for semantics!
Denounce
1. To condemn openly as being evil or reprehensible.
Reject
1. To refuse to accept, submit to, believe, or make use of.
To me, I’d think that denouncing something as evil is a much stronger statement that rejecting, or refusing to make use of. Ah, but that’s the beauty of the English language–subjective interpretation of subtle differences between synonyms.
Simply stated, this is a non-issue, and trying to make it in to one implies desperation.
And linking/quoting Debbie Schlussel is not a good look, especially with the recent flap over the Obama campaign running with a Matt Drudge story.
Did you even see the debate? He was trying to have it both ways: paying lip service to condemning antisemitism and yet not wanting to offend any voters who like Farrakhan. This fits in with his version of “unity” (think: McClurkin).
More Shame. More desperation. More politics of division from Clinton supporters.

I’m a Jew.
My parents are Jews. My uncles, aunts and cousins are all Jews. My grandparents are all Jews. My great-grandparents are all Jews. My great-great-grandparents are all Jews. After that I don’t know. Suffice to say, if there is any goy blood in my veins it came from a transfusion. So let me tell you why I find Russert’s question so ugly it hurt my eyes to hear it.
After Obama made it clear he denounced Farrakhan and his past statements, particularly his anti-Semitic remarks, Russert KEPT GOING:
[ADMINISTRATOR: CUT THE LONG QUOTES DOWN. I JUST DID, BUT AM TIRING OF IT.]
To that sentiment I have only one word to add:
Amen.
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/2/27/0448/61150/952/464844
I see you posted this on DKos and I only have one response to that.
When on Meet The Press, Markos was asked by Harold Ford Jr. about the Anti-Jewish hate that was permeating his blog. His response was not condemnation. Instead Markos said of those anti-Jewish people: “They are just regular people.”
Susan just spelled out for you serious concerns about Obama’s background which is the ONLY window we have into what this man will do if in office.
Being Jewish does not mean we cannot be had.
At the time, I thought he was defending the right to criticize Israel.
In light of Obama’s campaign, and Cee’s intellectual obtuseness, republican like intellectual obtuseness, I have to rethink that position.
And honestly, Obama, and the wealthy Arabs who support him, would run right over Israel.
Didn’t really understand that until I looked into Obama’s money tree.
Poor Israel, hooked up with the wrong crew, and full of their Richard Perle’s, too. The Arabs are just asymmetrically gaming Israel to death (IMO), and Israel hooked up with the morons, thinking it could work out.
It won’t.
The militarization of Palestine, and Gaza, using the right wing Israeli neocons, is a large part of the equation.
That would have been fine, but it was directly in response to Harold Ford Jr. calling him out on blatant Jewish hate that was appearing on his blog.
I washed shocked when he said it; the official transcript checked it out; and he refused to retract or explain any part of that.

That’s a Liberal Jew. Look at the Right wing Zionist (and his Christian Zionist brother), of the Likud brand, to see the difference.
Being a Jew doesn’t mean all Jews are alike (some Jews even are against a state of Israel). There are more liberal Jews, but it’s the Right wing faction that holds the ultimate power (why the Palestinian conflict still exists) for 60 years now.
It’s this wing, the JDF types, that will cry bloody murder and campaign against Obama. All they need to do is appeal to Jewish self-identity (or pressure them with shame with, “if you don’t support us you’re a self-hating jew!”); fear; and 1000001 things pertinent to the Jewish community’s concerns, to get their way.
No Kossack will paper those facts.
Debbie Schlussel? Contemptible.
no kidding , Debbie Schlussel’s only purpose in life is to paint ALL muslims in a bad light. her name might as well be Debbie MEMRI Schlussel…Howard Stern has her on the radio from time to time and even he thinks she’s a whack job. EVERYTHING out of her mouth is the 6 degrees of Muslim conspiracy. It would be funny if not for the fact the some people actually take her serious. She needs to take her meds….
Enough with painting Obama as OBL, it’s utter bullshit. AND even if he was this not so subtly implied “Muslim trojan horse”, how long do you think he would survive as president of the united states? what 10 minutes before his security detail had an ” unexplained” lapse???
Nation of Islam, oh please…..the whiff of desperation is getting embarrassing.
Like the stench of your rotted troll, but you don’t hear anyone whining.
WTF is it with the effeminate kos boys?
Can’t take the heat?
Sure can’t spot the troll.
lol.
Quite a few of sexist insults here. “Effeminate.” Obama is a GIRL. etc
Is this list moderated? Not sufficiently apparently.
Why? So you Obama-o-matics can dictate content?
I wish this blog was totally about Hillary and closed to Obama nuts.
You can have your blog as we move on to the general election next week.
I can’t wait to read what Larry and Su have to say about Hillary’s walk of shame back to capital hill.
Now quit your whining.
McMondukakerry can’t help it if Farakhan loves him. Being Obama means never having to say you’re sorry.
I have been away for a week. On the road on a business trip, and completely away from the internet.
I come back and try to catch up on my reading and what do I find. Mostly crap to match the best of crap TV.
Louis Farrakhan has been important to whom recently?
Does he scare AIPAC? Mostly he scares politicians who have always taken the black vote for granted.
Bill Ayers was tried for his crime and the Reagan government botched the case. He walked. Oh how terrible that he has not done a good catholic mea culpa mea maxima culpa. Why should he?
Now I know that this is a Hillary/McCain site. So I expect to find mindless howling for her and him, and good old democrat fear of the public. So I ask you, really, if Hillary wins are we to expect an administration of Penns and McAuliffes and Wolfsons and more yesterday’s people trying for mulligans on their mistakes. Will we have Madeline Redux? 8 more years of Reno justice and Wacos and Ruby Ridges. Now we are told that Hillary and her team are going all “kitchen sink” negative on Obama. Do it lady.
Every single time the Clinton campaign has followed the Pennsters advice and gone negative, failure has followed. Obama is now at break even in Ohio, within a nickel in TEXAS ( one of those meaningless redstates like n dakota and Utah and Idaho but bigger ) and within 7 in PA. Every time one of these NQ type negative spins gets thrown around, her polls fall. So in a show of wisdom, her campaign is going to go all negative. Good bye Ohio, Good bye Texas firewall. And even Bill Rendell will not swing PA to her.
My business trip ended in Ohio the weekend she was in Cinci. I did not see ONE Hillary sign or sticker or poster. Saw plenty of Obama material and Ron Paul signs but nothing from Hillary or McCain. 10 hours driving some days and I will tell you what I saw. Two year old for sale signs on prime farmland, half completed apartments with no one working on them, truck traffic on the superhigways off about 15% from the same time last year. Fish prices sky high, restaurant prices increased for the same size meals or meal sizes shrunk but at last years prices. Approximately a 45% inflation in the cost of a day on the road. Gas, food, coffee, tolls, motels, taxes. Customers trying to pay with plastic instead of personal checks or FRNs. Empty parking lots at discount malls and regular malls during prime shopping hours. And tons of bad television. Give away shows and million dollar guessing games and lame comedies or fantasy killer government agent shows. And news, ah the news. Big topic the night Hillary was in Cinci; TV converter boxes and how to understand the government’s giveaway coupons program for those of you who will not be able to afford a Korean wide panel flat screen next year or ever.
Come home, get the mail, credit card company offering me a 0% ( for a year) card in one letter and in another letter telling me that the rate on another of my cards is being raised to 24%, with no reason given in the letter nor on the phone to the company. Another credit card closed. Charge some other schmoo your 24%. I have said this before, we are in a recession right now, and moving into a full blown depression. That will be the issue this fall.
>>> “8 (sic) more years of Reno justice and Wacos and Ruby Ridges”
Uh, excuse me, BUT:
On August 21, 1992, the day Vicki Weaver was murdered by government employees, George Hideous Wanker BUSH was President of the United States.
This date PRECEDES the 1992 General Election. Bill Clinton had yet to be elected POTUS, and Janet Reno was an insignifcant prosecutor in South Florida.
Clinton was Inaugurated in january of 1993.
For Christ’s sake, get it RIGHT, huh?
You are correct. Not that there was that much difference between the two administrations but your timeline is correct.
Sorry for the grouchy tone, but (1) I spent the day in SoCal yesterday on a job interview, driving 300 miles home to ToonTown in the dark last night, and (2) your past posts indicate that you’re generally smarter than that.
Eating in Barstow is like a fresh case of Jungle Rot on a July day.

“Bitching is the New Racquetball.” - Fred C. Dobbs
No offense taken.
It was the same Louis Freeh who having screwed up the investigation of Ruby Ridge that was promoted to Head of the FBI by the Clintons where he proceeded to screw up Waco and Oklahoma City.
I do have a wonderful excuse for my brain fart however, I just finished paying off all my credit cards and closing all but one of them. Unfortunately I do have to travel and motels and rentawrecks do like plastic to hold things.
Wait till they can’t leave the light on fer ya…
You starting to see the blight creep CK?
One big “redline” eh? no longer an urban legend.
Be safe out on the roads.
@TWK
It’s the little blights that tell the story.
Potholes unfixed, maintainence not done, folks attitudes showing the stresses of trying to make do when there is nothing left in the budget.
As the local banks had done to certain neighbourhoods in redlining them as credit risky areas, I fear that the international banking and trading worlds will redline the USA in the near future. Bankrupts are not credit worthy. The USA is basically bankrupt.
AIPAC made a mistake, hooking up with Bush.
All it did was give the Arabs move leverage over Israel.
I really did not understand until I started reading about Obama’s money boys, Obama’s terrorist connected money boys.
Too sad, because there is no counter in Israel that can pull them out, AFAIK, the US, well…
AIPAC’s hand was deep into American politics, (just read “Charlie Wilson’s War,”) but all for naught, as the Arab money is the main player, now, and Israeli goodwill has been pissed away, with Gaza, and Palestine.
Actually, this AA Hillary supporter thinks that making a lot of the NOI and Farrakhan connection to Obama PALES in comparison to his overall foreign affairs expertise and readiness. Funny how it is the Obama supporters who want to keep the focus on something that they readily admit is a low blow and insignificant.
Okay….AGREED.
Let’s talk about how seasoned, how ready your candidate is in foreign affairs compared to ours. Let’s hear about his travels abroad, his knowledge of foreign heads-of-state. Does he EVEN KNOW their names.
All the NOI stuff points out to me is how he’s no different from any other politician in that he will change for the sake of political expediency. What’s new and refreshing about that??? He’s no different and I resent that he’s being packaged as what the country needs to make this transformation from ‘old style politics’ when he is in fact practising it and getting a pass from the media.
I’d have more respect for you all if you simply came out and said that you don’t like Hillary. Period! Instead of trying to prop your candidate up as if he’s some golden boy. HE’S NOT!!! He has a past just like she does. He wants to win as much as she does. And he’ll do ANYTHING to get elected! Even LIE. That’s why his connection to NOI and Farrakhan is so damning. Obama Pot meet Hillary Kettle!
The reality is Obama ain’t all that!!! He’s just a CLONE!
Maybe the party would not be so divided if you all would stop trying to force feed the rest of us kool-aid. I might like and trust your candidate a whole lot better if he’d just be honest instead of trying to come off so holier than thou.
At least I know what I get with Hillary. With your candidate, it’s anybody’s guess. I do know that he likes to practise the fine art of ‘gaslight politics.’
I don’t like to be gaslighted. I may be many things, but crazy is not one of them.
Funny how this post has nothing to do with foreign policy.
This post is about NOI supposedly infiltrating and influencing the Obama campaign. The author is relying on a linked story written by Debbie Schlussel to support this arguement. Discounting the fact that Debbie Schlussel is NOT credible regarding anything related to Islam (and NOI != Islam BTW), the entire linked story is hearsay and rumors with no independant sources or links to verify fact.
An objective comparison/debate of both candidate’s views towards America’s foreign policy should be welcome to any sane, reasonable Obama or Clinton supporter (especially considering last night’s embarassing revelation on Obama’s sub-commitee chair). But the author undermine’s this site’s credibility/objectivity by attempting to prop up Debbie Schlussel as a source, especially after recently asserting that the Obama campaign was “bamboozled” by Drudge for taking what was posted on his website and running with it.
The fact is, that Obama had the opportunity to not only say he doesn’t want the NOI support, but that he thinks what they have done and said is wrong.
But he didn’t do it (and even then half-heartedly) until pressed by his opponent.
And again, you’re missing the point of these posts on NQ. It’s that this material is out there and will be used against BO in the GE. It doesn’t mean that any of us agree with it, necessarily, but that it’ll be used against him.
Deal with the connections and relations now, before the GE. But Obama couldn’t do it. He didn’t distance himself from LF at all. “Oh, I can’t tell them what to do.” (paraphase) But he sure could have said “I don’t agree with what he said, that’s not what I stand for and I have talked to LF about it.” But he didn’t do it.
Here’s the guy who Obama couldn’t distance himself from.

So much for the grand uniter! And I say that not as some zionist apologizer, but just you’re average Jo/e out here. Sometime, in the face of hate and racism (in ANY direction) you have to take a stand. NO “not voted”, NO “present”….but to really DO something.
The amount of melatonin in someone’s skin should NEVER trump the presence OR LACK THEREOF the ability to act, lead and get s. done.
Yours is teen age simplistic disingenuous ad hominem attack, sounds like your SAT essay.
Not ready for prime time, is this a kossack pretending to be smart?
More xerox?
Geez…
Shithead troll.
You are a GIRL.
Uh, there’s no essay on the SAT. Good try, though.
That’s a criticism I appreciate. Very good points. Thank you.
BEWARE!!
Warn Hillary!!
Clinton aide: She and Obama could be running mates
February 26, 2008
FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS
MADISON, Wis. — The national chairman of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign says she could end up on the same ticket with rival Barack Obama.
Terry McAuliffe told a business group in Madison on Tuesday it ‘‘sure is’’ possible the former first lady and the Illinois senator could become running mates.
Jul 22, 2007
Obama is the Anti-Christ. This is the evidence:
1.- He will come as a man of Peace (Obama promises peace in Iraq, defeat for the US)
2.- He will come mounted on a white Female horse(Obama mother is white who had 6 African husbands)
3.- He will come to deceive( Obama says he’s a Christian but in fact he was born a Muslim, practices the Islamic religion, prays Friday’s facing Mecca)
4.- He will make himself the most powerful man on earth, if elected
5.- He will try to destroy the Jewish People and Israel( Obama has said he loves the Arabs specially the Palestinians, hates Israel and Jews. Admires Hitler, Osama etc)
6.- He will present himself as good and righteous but in fact he’s Satan himself. Violence is in his heart
7.- Obama will help Al Qaida in its evil projects.
8.- Barack Hussein Obama is the “King of the South” predicted in the Bible.(Daniel .11, Kenya is south of Jerusalem)
9.- Obama comes to implant muslim Sharia Law upon America.
Obama is the Anti-Christ, beware of him.
Watch him and don’t let you be deceived by Him.
Supporters of Obama: 1.5 billion Muslims, Oprah, Louis Farrakanh, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and all American Muslims.
OBAMA’S GAME IS DECEPTION AND VIOLENCE
A VOTE FOR OBAMA IS A VOTE FOR OSAMA AND KILLER ISLAM!!
IF OBAMA WAS NOT MUSLIM, HE WOULD BE CONSIDERED AS VP BUT A MUSLIM IS TOO DANGEROUS FOR OUR FREEDOMS TO CONSIDER.
[ADMINISTRATOR: CEE, WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU DOING? ARE YOU QUOTING SOMEONE? IF SO, YOU MUST PROVIDE A LINK. RIGHT NOW THIS READS LIKE YOUR OWN RANT. WHICH I DOUBT. FURTHER, IF YOU QUOTE SOMEONE, YOU MUST PROVIDE A LINK. PLEASE.]
Was that yours, or another simple minded attempt to confuse?
God, these trolls are fucking stupid, no wonder Bush can never win.
And if it yours, YOU ARE A FUCKING MORON.
NOt you , GWAN, I’m sorry, I should have quoted.
Cee,
Thanks for the warning. I couldn’t figure out the “King of the South” stuff from Daniel, but then I realized you are talking about the Southside of Chicago.
Thanks for making it all clear.
I don’t believe in the Antichrist, but Obama certainly fits the bill.
ADMINISTRATOR
I can’t post links at times. Don’t know why.
The first one was from the AP.
I don’t remember where the second one came from.
Mimi,
I notice that you keep saying that you’re an AA.
Does that give your opinion more weight?
Did that give you the right to imply that I was a racist a few days ago?
Just asking.
So in order to condemn Obama you link to Debbie Schlussel who is as despicable as Farrakhan?
You guys have really gone off the deep end over here.
Oh gosh, because, y’know if we don’t talk about it, the republican noise machine won’t talk about it either….
This is only an example of the s. that is out there. Averting your eyes won’t make it go away.
Better loosen those blinders, otherwise you’ll start sounding like you approve of LF’s message.
What’s your opinion on progressives using a Drudge rumor to condemn Clinton?
Shouldn’t this be common knowledge by now? Why has it been hidden? If Hillary knew about this, why didn’t she say anything?
Fear of the race card.
You betcha.
Hillary operates on the double standard that PCness employs. Can’t discuss race (she’s white); gender (she’ll be considered man-hating); religion (she’s Christian).
Get rid of PCness, and she can bore into O-Bomba with a 100ft wide drill.
But on the Right, PCness doesn’t matter as much. So Obama is “fair game” to their steamroller. No cries for “unity”; party discipline; and other silencers apply.
Also, she’s a Democrat’s Democrat. She knows this whole thing is bigger than herself. If she attack’s BO too harshly now, especially when he’s ahead, she doesn’t want to be the one who let’s McCain win before Nov.
And that long-term perspective is, in my opinion, what Obama’s supporters are missing. For him, his wife apparently, and his supporters it’s all about him. He just HAS to win. There is no context. And this lack of party perspective is what allows his campaign to make claims against (the) Clinton/s without worrying about how vapidly right-wing they sound.
All of the Nation of Islam people that I know are black.
Obama has hired blacks.
Is he supposed to use a religious standard and refuse to hire someone because they follow a minority religion?
SHould he only hire from a list of approved black religions, said approval to be determined by whiney whites? Baptists good, NOI bad?
So far none of the NOI members I have dealt with have bounced any checks on me.
You need a refresher course in deductive reasoning.
Perhaps we should get the Gideon people to pass out copies of Copi’s, “Introduction to Logic,” and turn off the Hotel/Motel TV’s en masse.
Also,
how is it that the SAME people ( the right wing GOP or Likud party loyalist) who say we should NEVER talk with Iranian leaders ( or any Middle Eastern leaders ) are THE SAME ones who want us to go to war with ALL of them? A MERE COINCIDENCE.?? After all, we Americans know it’s SO MUCH EASIER to go to war than to sit across a table with an adversary and sip tea because The last 5 years have proven this true.”talk before shoot?”
heresy!!!.
Can some one tell me, WHAT ARE WE SUPPOSED TO BE AFRAID OF???? Are we such pathetic diplomats we can’t argue our points truthfully and intelligently ? That “the Arabs” will put us under their spell and all of a sudden we will be sympathetic to their needs as well as the Israeli’s? and , What is wrong with that??? Are we saying that if we speak to them AS HUMANS we will all of a sudden have an urge to pray to Mecca? Oh PLEEEEEEASE…This straw man issue of the nation of Islam is the biggest example race baiting i’ve seen since moving from the south. We’ve just traded the “N word” for the “A word”.
so here we are now, War before talking… My have we fallen into the abyss …. After all, we have trillions of dollars left (in the form of credit from China) and umpteen soldiers left that we haven’t ground to bits …
We are truly nuts………..
Donovan
We must fear anyone who might impede our desire for sameness without anxiety. Anyone who introduces the reality of our precariousness must be feared.
And yes the USA is that pathetic. Must your be reminded that our premier diplmat is Condi Rice.
Most recently seen begging from Hu yet again.
Did you notice that Hu has a most handsome smile?
It is never a good thing when the person who holds all your IOUs sits there and smiles politely at you.
It could be worse, we could have Madeline Alldull doing the negotiations. The single bright spot in the bush administration is that Rice is not as bad as Alldull was. ( That is known as damning with faint praise ).
He’s a pleaser, wants everybody to get along, doesn’t want to reject anybody.
NOI staffers in his office? In the Bay Area we’ve had a few dust ups with NOI groups in the last year, one noteable one being the Your Black Muslim Bakery in Oakland, an extreme case.
Another NOI group, one in San Francisco, made some news too, though it wasn’t nearly to the degree of the above. But the manner of protest they engaged in was haunting.
Obama’s equivation was his way to keep from pissing- off his crazy fringe(black separatist). His very calculated answer will lose him older white dems in the general. These folks are just looking for a reason to vote for McCain. How in the world was he not able to recognize that this was his “Sister Soulja” moment - and he blew it!
I just can’t see this guy being decisive enough to be president. He’s going to have to decide, with the fallout being some group will be pissed off, sooner or later.
You know if Hillary had a NOI member on her staff, she’d be vilified and then hung from the nearest telephone pole for having the nerve to hire some from a racist and virulently anti-semitic organization as the NOI.
But its ok for The One to have a few on his staff. After all he is The One.
Still at the end of the day Rove and Harmon are going to have a field day with The One.
At the end of the day, Rove and McCain are going down just as they did in 2006. A stomping to remember, to savour over single malts long into the sunset years. So far down the crapper that they will have to crane their heads upwards to see the bottom side of whale shit. Monumental — Homeric even. This election will flush so much crap out of congress and the administrative branch that DC will need to install a huge new waste treatment facility.
Maybe they can name it for Saint Ronnie, or Karl “I got the math” Rove.
What’s wrong of being a pleaser? Don’t we just want to get along?
Careful folks, or this will wind up being like the plagiarism meme. We’re going after the wrong stuff. I think his statements last night about “reserving the right to re-invade Iraq”, if Al-Qaeda gets “settled” after he removes U.S. troops out of the scene,” is way more telling. This is after all the posturing “I was against the war from the beginning” candidate. I guess the left wing bloggers haven’t notice Obama’s very deft Michael Jackson moonwalk away from an anti war stance. Re-invade Iraq? How’s that different from McCain’s 100 year stance? If re-invading is an option then we might as well - ugh - ’stay the course.’
I’ve faced the fact that it will be up to the Jewish voters to decide how they feel about voting for a candidate with ties to Farrakhan and NOI. They certainly held it against Jesse Jackson, and other black politicians and celebrities who have associated with Farrakhan. Arsenio Hall’s nightly talk show was cancelled after he insisted on simply interviewing Farrakhan. Now all of sudden, they are comfortable with Farrakhan ties. Oh geez Obama, isn’t that special???
I don’t get the difference here on their part. I certainly understand why blacks like Jackson, Hall and even Obama may have given NOI and Farrakhan a salute. They are known for extraordinary drug rehab programs in the black community and for helping ex-inmates reform and stay out of prison. They are community organizers and you can go into any black community and interview someone who was personally helped by them. Say…. while we’re on the subject, where are the black folks that could be interviewed in the community Obama organized in?????? Haven’t heard a peep out of these people. But I’ve seen an awful lot of photo-op pictures of Obama with his shirt sleeves rolled up. Community organizing is such a tough job since it’s a preparatory for running for POTUS.
That Farrakhan is no longer a pariah to the Jewish community I’m sure is a welcome development for the black community. When did that happen? I guess that’s why Obama is considered a Messiah. OMG!
reserving the right to re-invade Iraq”, if Al-Qaeda gets “settled” after he removes U.S. troops out of the scene,” is way more telling
First principle: He Covets
He did not seem all that well prepared. A Murder board would have been like a cake walk with the poor response to that question. He could not even pivot to the “big picture”. My spine was crawling for the remote.
Answer the question you want asked…is not his strong suit.
Say…. while we’re on the subject, where are the black folks that could be interviewed in the community Obama organized in??????
I was just thinking the same thing today. I remember listening to all the people who gave their testimony regarding the support and solutions Hillary had given them. There must have been a dozen or more. Sure hope we can hear from some of Obama’s beneficients. (I don’t know is this is a word, but it sure sounded good.)

Regardless of the veracity of all of this, it is a concern. If nothing else, you can bet your bottom dollar that the GOP will be all over this if Obama is the nominee. And those viral e-mails? Millions of them will be sent out.”

Well, I won’t get into that here since this is a Dem blog, but if folks think all this is bad, you haven’t seen anything yet. But a preview is Right wing Zionists (both the Jewish and Christian variety) will be all over this like hot rice and butter.
On the Right, PCness isn’t much of a concern, so more will be traded about O-Bomba’s background. Some I believe to be true myself, some the usual partisan BS.
Either way, as a conservative I’m warning all Dems, if you thought Swiftboating was ugly, this will be WWIV. Hillary is more immuned to such partisan mud, but Obama is untried, and I doubt seriously he can overcome the massacre. Sorry Dems, GOPers fight to win at all costs, and SCOTUS is up for grabs. PCness be damned.
Screw the right wing, this stuff makes this Democrat uncomfortable. I understand his father was Muslim - that doesn’t bother me.
What bothers me is his tendency to tempt fate with statements like this:
Some of that may be true, but…it’s just a dangerous assumption on his part. It’s a statement that tempts fate. He assumes a lot about how “the world would see me“.
It’s also patently offensive. It’s like saying I can speak for all Japanese, since I’m half-Japanese. Not only will native Japanese would be offended by the callous disregard of subtle but important differences from native and non-native Japanese; it’s so self-serving it’s insulting.
O-Bomba is no more native African or Muslim, as I native Japanese or Christian (I’m a Deist anyway).
he also never said that. Look for quotation marks…
OK here we go. John did you happen to listen to the the then Illinois State Senator Obama keynote address at 2004 Democratic Convention?
I just happen to have it open in another tab. I’ll even go get for you…wch..wch..wch..wch //wch..wch..wch..wch
Wheh! all that heavy lifting..
Stands to reason he has family else where on the planet…and apparently in the white house too.
I love this intrepid report by Trish Anderton
Life in Jakarta for young Mr Obama.

no, dumbshit, he never said the “I have a muslim” part. Jesus. Look at the fucking quotation marks.
People can pretend all they want, we can spin, we can give Obama the benefit of the doubt, we can dismiss his connections and his past.
But two thirds of this country are not going to do that. He will be portrayed as an “Islamic socialist terrorist”, the same “enemy” we have been fighting for the last 7 years. I might know this is ridculous, I might be an open minded liberal, but the majority of the country is not.
Obama supporters should stop gloating and bashing Hillary, wipe the stars from their eyes, and try to figure out how you’re going to get the “Islamic socialist terrorist” into the white house. That’s going to be a daunting task.
What the hell is Kennedy, Kerry and Daschele thinking?
Kennedy is thinking that HE got to choose who DOESN’T get to be POTUS yet again.

It doesn’t matter what religion he is (look how folks are responding to Huckabee, let alone to Mitt Romney, in comparison). What matters is if he’s not extremist. As soon as extremist ties are known, kiss his GE bid goodbye.

For years, the GOP has been looking for a way, someone, to peel the Black vote away from the Dem base…
…is Barack “the one”?
My thoughts exactly. They just have to pick a sane, black veep and they’ve got it.
Not with O-Bomba. He’s too liberal to swallow. Keyes and some other conservative Blacks, but not O-Bomba. To them he’s a well articulated Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.
To think Biden was censored for stating just that — I hate PCness. If you can’t say it like it is, forget free speech and throw out the Constitution.
Debbie Schussel is really not a very credible source, in my view. I support Clinton with all my heart, and I don’t think Barack Obama is ready to be president, either in experience, judgment, or character.
But, having said that, reading the offensive smears against Edward Said by Schussel simply made me like Obama more.
Edward Said is a man I admire tremendouslyas an academic, a man of integrity and great personal courage. He was a man of peace, who was passionate about human rights for the Palestinian people.
For Schussel to so smear him was incredibly insulting to me. Moreover, Ali Abunimah is also a journalist I admire [electronic intifada]tremendously.
I think Obama was right the first time: “Israel is inflexible.”
Trying to demonize Obama on Israeli issues by saying he’s linked to Farrakhan won’t help Sen. Clinton, who I admire greatly, but disagree with on the issue of Israeli “peace” efforts.
I know the history; I know the facts. I have been a student of the Israeli/Palestinian issue for a great many years, have read Said’s books, as well as hundreds of others, including Dr. Sara Roy, who, as the child of holocaust survivors, lived in Gaza for 3 years completing her thesis. Or writers like Amira Haass, who, as an Israeli, covers the middle east with a unique perspective of years lived in the Palestinian territories.
Ironically, this is the one area where I disagree with Clinton; but conversely, it is the one area where I agree with Obama. And, people like Debbie Schussel just make me feel more supportive of Obama by demonizing him through admirable people.
I don’t think many people get the point here. This is not about anti- or pro- Israel policy, this is about his relationship with NOI might pose a threat to his candidacy in GE. GOP can easily use this to negatively attack him.
What the hell is wrong with you people??
I’m just asking. This used to be an interesting place to visit. It seems to have degenerated into LGF-lite.
you people?? A bit to general of ya.
not in your case, but i take deep offense. Oh wait…
Deep offense of being spotted as a paid hack?
Or deep offense of being spotted as a fool?
A paid hack? I wish.

Just how many Jews have been physically harmed by either Farrakhan or his followers? He’s a handy bogeyman that comes in handy to scare a bunch of Jewish retirees in Florida, and not much more.
I thought, according to some, words matter.
Patrick Henry is saving me a post, to which I thank and salute him for his words.
TeakWoodKite..
Thank You..My respect and Appreciation for your Comments here are Mutual..We have some very Thoughtful Posters here..many of thier comments are like a Good Editorial Opinion,. worthy of any Major Media publication…

Wow,
An Obama supporter really takes you kids to the woodshed.

Don’t mess with him. He is a young cult member. lol
I hadn’t been to Kos in a long time. My goddess they have all gone insane. Really, it’s a group delusion, a cesspool. Very scary.
So the Obama strategy for the general election is to blame Hillary everytime the Republicans attack him?
And when the Dems loose the general election, the plan is to again blame Hillary?
Seriously, I wish these Obama supporters would listen to what they are saying. This woman is omnipotent, all knowing, all powerful. She can control the media with her little finger, steal an election, start a war, and bend corporations to her will.
I don’t get it, they claim her powers are practically god-like. Isn’t that exactly who you would want as the president of your country?
Throw them a bone and watch what happens.

Obviously you don’t care care much about facts and accuracy either. Last I checked, there were no black guys guarding the death camps, but there were plenty of black soldiers who helped liberate those camps.
Again, has a single Jew been physically harmed by a member of the Nation of Islam? If the Holocaust is a memory that cannot be overcome, then I trust no Jewish person drives a German car?
Oh, and Mr. Henry - you do realize that your namesake was a vociferous opponent of the Constitution right? Or are we going to abandon the entire document, along with the freedom of speech that protects the likes of you and Mr. Farrakhan? I trust your concern over hatemongers extended to the Israeli government, when it was sharing nuclear technology with apartheid-era South Africa? Or are the schawtzers not your area of concern?
[...] http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/02/27/about-the-nation-of-islam-and-obama/ Barack Obama has hired many staffers who are, or were, members of the Nation of Islam. And some claim that he could not win his Chicago district without the blessings of the Lewis Farrakhan-run Nation of Islam. More about that below. [...]
