Truthtelling from Lannie Davis (What about “Iron My Shirt”?) [UPDATE: And from CNN?!]

UPDATE (CNN? My stars! Really?):

(Original) Lannie Davis hits a home run — on everything from the double standard (Obama photo vs. the Obama-ite who wore a misogynistic “Iron My Shirt” t-shirt) to Obama’s, um, flexible words on the war in Iraq (”I don’t know” response to how he would have voted on the war had he been in the U.S. Senate, instead of speechifying in the safe liberal environs of Chicago’s university neighborhood). [Thanks, Jim, for the link.]

Here are some more great stories today:

  • Feds hit Rezko’s ties to gov’s office — TRIAL STRATEGY | Campaign director will be first witness,” from the Chicago Sun-Times. [Talk about luck for Sen. Obama! The federal prosecutors' opening statements won't take place until March 6. How convenient, since Obama's name is sure to emerge in the trial, along with his many associations with Tony Rezko. The prosecutorial team is led by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald.]

  • Obama jokes: Dime a dozen at $11 m GOP dinner,” from the Baltimore Sun’s Swampland blog. [A sample: "What a great crowd! At least, that's what Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick told me to say.," said Missouri governor Matt Blunt.]

The money flowed too: “The Republican Governors Association said it set a new record with last night’s fundraising dinner at the National Building Museum: $10.6 million collected from 1,400 people.”

Race Man
by Sean Wilentz
How Barack Obama played the race card and blamed Hillary Clinton
.

After several weeks of swooning, news reports are finally being filed about the gap between Senator Barack Obama’s promises of a pure, soul-cleansing “new” politics and the calculated, deeply dishonest conduct of his actually-existing campaign. But it remains to be seen whether the latest ploy by the Obama camp–over allegations about the circulation of a photograph of Obama in ceremonial Somali dress–will be exposed by the press as the manipulative illusion that it is. … ..

… .. To a large degree, the campaign’s strategists turned the primary and caucus race to their advantage when they deliberately, falsely, and successfully portrayed Clinton and her campaign as unscrupulous race-baiters–a campaign-within-the-campaign in which the worked-up flap over the Somali costume photograph is but the latest episode. While promoting Obama as a “post-racial” figure, his campaign has purposefully polluted the contest with a new strain of what historically has been the most toxic poison in American politics.

More than any other maneuver, this one has brought Clinton into disrepute with important portions of the Democratic Party. A review of what actually happened shows that the charges that the Clintons played the “race card” were not simply false; they were deliberately manufactured by the Obama camp and trumpeted by a credulous and/or compliant press corps in order to strip away her once formidable majority among black voters and to outrage affluent, college-educated white liberals as well as college students. … ..

It was so frustrating to see Joe ask Lannie over and over why they didn’t try to get this point about the Iraq War out earlier!!! THEY DID AND THEY WERE ACCUSED OF RACISM!!! Bill Clinton said it, Hillary spelled it out at the South Carolina debate, they have said it over and over again but the press is like a bunch of eight year-olds with their fingers stuck in their ears who hear only what they want to hear. THEY DID hammer this point home, but the press REFUSED to cover this, they REFUSED to investigate it, and instead decided to call the Clintons racist for DARING to criticize Barack “I am god” Obama. So damn irritating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saddest thing is all of this is O-Bomba tying the hands of his own party. In a lot of ways I feel he’s in the pocket of the GOP. Seriously.

The GOP will make all of the jokes and catcalls about O-Bomba, and if any Dem says the same, not only the race card will be played, 51 other cards, too.

Personally, I’d throw the gauntlet down and drive a 100ft wide hole through O-Bomba’s compaign. But Dems are on the “unity” track, which means a straight jacket on top of loaded deck of cards. That approach is doomed to fail Hillary, and will fail O-Bomba in the end.

Have to fight to win, concensus is defeat.

We must reverse the bomatide and make sure we nominate Hillary. It isn’t too late and we should do it for those young people that we love. They think because he’s like god to them that they’ll be able to elect him and all will be good and right with the world.

Plus, we are fighting two wars and there’s no way we want a freshman senator who says things like he’ll consider going back in Iraq if al queda establishes a stronghold after we leave. If that didn’t send chills up everyone’s spine it should’ve. That sounds more like we’ll never get out to me.

Vote HIlllary.

Please look at my research on web marketing and the Obama campaign. I know you don’t know me in the blog world, but I linked you for your blog. It’s all about the target marketing being done.

I’m glad you are called No Quarter, and right now, no quarter is what should be happening in terms of the Democratic Party.

The lid has not blown off just yet, but is showing signs of failure.

Susan and all went to an Obama rally today at St John’s arena in Columbus Ohio. 10 to 15,ooo people there. Very diverse in age, race and gender. From what I witnessed today I think it is going to be very hard to stop the tidal wave that Obama is riding.

I went in a skeptic and came out a skeptic, although it was impressive how Obama really digs down under peoples skin…impressive. Talked to lots of people today including the head of the Teamsters legislative team, students, 50 something women and others. People seemed to have more specifics as to just why they are on Obama’s bus. Will share when I can.

He was also a LOBBYIST for Pakistan during the Clinton administration. Does Hillary plan to bring him back?

First Schlussel now Davis. Ugh.

Our savior, who art Obama,
Shallowed be thy game.
Thy record none,
Thy sham be done,
On kos as it is at Huff Po.
Give us this day our daily fluff,

I voted for Obama in my state’s election…I knew he isn’t perfect, the opposite is true; he is far from it…he doesn’t have all the experience that he probably needs—so what?….Hillary is very intelligent, has more experience, would do a better job as prez—so what?…she voted for the illegal Iraq invasion, Barack wouldn’t have, for any reason…the next thing that bothers me about Hillary, when she speaks about what she wants to do for America—she comes across to me as a machine, no humanity is present, she reminds me of a terminator robot running for president. I am sorry, I can’t vote for somebody (man or woman) who can’t really allow their feelings to show through when they need to…..anyway, is obama any better?…yes, in the way he means what he says, and does look like a human being when he speaks….is he more qualified??…probably not as much as he should be…our country needs a change, badly…I feel he is the right choice for the present…Hillary can wait, probably only until 2012; then I will vote for her, if barack doesn’t do what needs to be done.

Comment by gregoryp | 2008-02-27 20:43:42

Do you honestly believe any of this crap you wrote in this paragraph? Obama says anything to be liked. In front of a fervently anti-Iraq war crowd he makes his one speech against it. In front of a college crowd he tells them he wants to legalize drugs. In Idaho he tells the people he will defend their right to bear arms. In practice, he has voted to fund the war every time the issue comes up. In practice, he has made no speeches on the senate floor to end the war. In practice, he doesn’t really want to legalize drugs. In practice, he voted to eliminate hand guns 15 times in the Illinois legislature. Obama is simply full of shit. If you believe his lies then that makes you full of shit as well. And Hillary didn’t vote to invade Iraq, she voted to authorize force to get the weapons inspectors back in Iraq and to have full access. It isn’t her fault or John Kerry’s, or Ted Kennedy’s or any of the other Senators who supported the authorization that the American public decided to elect a narcissistic fool who convinced one of the most credible generals of all time to lie and fudge the data. For heaven’s sake hold the proper people accountable.

Lou Dobbs asked a lot of questions about Obama today.

Comment by Michael Lafferty | 2008-02-27 20:22:08

“She voted for the illegal Iraq invasion, Barack wouldn’t have, for any reason…”

I only wish that it were so. The totality of the evidence suggests otherwise, but Senator Obama gets a free pass because he did not sit in the US Senate at the time.

Those of us who opposed the war from the outset were outnumbered publicly about 8 to 1: the US Senate roll call vote was 77 aye, and 23 opposed. The equivalent joint resolution House roll call vote was 296 to 133, a measurably higher level of opposition at 31%,

Very little in Senator Obama’s historic comments or voting record suggests that he would actually have been in the minority, voting to oppose the Authorization for the Use of Military Force in Iraq. He has not explicitly made that claim himself, and could not defend it if he had.

A shameful number of Democratic Senators voted for this measure, including Senators Jospeh Biden, Maria Cantwell, Hillary Clinton, Tom Daschel, Chris Dodd, John Edwards, Diane Feinstein, Tom Harkin, John Kerry, Bill Nelson, Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer and others, including ALL seated Republicans other than Senator Lincoln Chafee.

It’s way past time to keep giving a non-participant like Senator Obama a free pass on this issue, while effectively hanging Senator Clinton’s vote for the resolution around her neck as if it were an albatross.

Was it a bad decision? You bet your ass it was! Was it a calculated one in anticipation of a future run for the Presidency? Perhaps. Should she subsequently have publicly acknowledged what a poor decision it was? Yes, as did Senator Edwards. She chose not to do so, and has defended her position. I will give you that both of those choices, as well as her original vote, display a serious lack of judgement in my mind.

But, she was in the MAJORITY in doing so. In good company so to speak, of virtually everyone else in the Senate at the time, who ran as either a Democratic or Republican Presidential candidate in this cycle.

So, in a word, shut the hell up about this issue already. Put it in perspective and consider all of the facts, suppositions and claims that surround it. While I remain angry about her initial decision, and about her continued defense of it, this should not be a deal breaker in this primary cycle.

Comment by Marjorie | 2008-02-28 11:35:32

It surprises me this vote comes up so often as “proof” Hillary wanted to invade Iraq. Her website has copy of what she said that day, and she was clear this was not a vote to invade without UN approval and other conditions. A last resort.
Remember the confusion in the country over what happened and what response, beyond the invasion of Afghanistan, would be appropriate to Bush’s claim of Al Qaeda in Iraq? All of this was brand new to people in the US. New to me because under Clinton I knew better minds were at work running the country and, while I followed politics, it wasn’t an obsession with me as it is now. I knew Bush wasn’t to be trusted, but the media was no help in evaluating Bush, and if blogs were available, I didn’t know about them. Think back to how innocent we were.
