Election Results Thread (Open)

UPDATE 6: Jeralyn is live-blogging a “jubilant” Hillary’s victory speech.

hilarry.jpgUPDATE 5: A reliable person tells me, “At precincts 664 and 792 in Houston, TX - major voter intimidation. The police have been called.” [OHIO and TEXAS CALLED FOR HILLARY!] [FOX News is emphasizing that Clinton can close the deal by continuing to emphasize the "Commander In Chief" meme. Now let's DONATE -- she needs every dime we can give her to seal this deal!]

UPDATE x4: SEE MY TRANSCRIBED NOTES OF THE REPORTER’S ACCOUNT. I am transcribing, the gist of it but nearly verbatim, this report by backing up the DVR, Brit Hume hosting, from Fox reporter Steve Brown at Clinton headquarters in Columbus, Ohio — No Quarter readers, this is dirty Chicago-style politics, all the way (find a friendly judge, game “cherry-picked” precincts):

Couple developments. One, there is some nervousness … turnout in southeast portion of state is lower than projected…. blamed on flooding. The other thing is a development that happened earlier this evening in Cuayoga (sp) County where a federal judge — the judge’s name is Solomon Oliver — extended the voting hours in a certain number of precincts (he thinks 19-21) based on an application made by the Barack Obama campaign attorney, or one of the attorneys … Now, for a judge to override the state law, and extend voting hours, there needs to at least be some evidence, or so you would think.

But I got a phone call from Chris Radford, who is the chair of the Ohio Democratic party. He took a look at the application, and the judge’s hand-signed order to extend the order, and he said there was no evidence. There was no evidence of a ballot shortage. There was no sworn deposition to long lines, nor was there any witness brought in to describe the bad weather. [Found the spot on my DVR, and am continuing to transcribe again.]

Apparently, Jennfier Bruner, the Secretary of State, discovered this — the extended voting had taken place — and it was just minutes before it closed. But it was her intention to close that down and at least appeal the judge’s order immediately, but it was six minutes to 9:00, and the voting had already just about been completed.

Now, on top of all this, you have a situation where Jennifer Bruner has been quoted on a blog on the Cincinnati Enquirer saying that these particular precincts were “cherry-picked.” I talked to a couple of Clinton officials who wouldn’t go on the record but I asked them, “Are these precincts largely African-American?” And what I got was a lot of nods. The Clinton campaign won’t say it publicly, but they believe that they have been put in a box by this situation. If they go strong and challenge the order, then they may offend some folks in the AA community …

Earlier: For a sanity break, check out Fox News. It’s news and some spin, but without the obsessively neurotic psychoanalyzing. Really. “The Clinton campaign has done some things right in the last three days … Obama may be hanging on by his fingernails …”

UPDATE x3: From Marc Ambinder at The Atlantic: “The Clinton campaign said tonight that Obama precinct workers illegally obtained caucus packets in the following Texas caucus precincts: …” He lists the precincts, more. Read all.

UPDATE x2: Obama Camp Infiltrates Clinton Call: “ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Talal Al-Khatib Report: In one of the most bizarre moments of the 2008 campaign, Obama campaign lawyer Bob Bauer called into a Hillary Clinton conference call with reporters, asking a series of antagonistic questions.” (Via MyDD diary) SEE ALSO, from The Hill: “Clinton cries foul in Texas; Obama lawyer hijacks call.” (”Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton’s (D-N.Y.) campaign charged rival Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) campaign with breaking several rules in the Texas caucuses. …”)

… Obama campaign had shut the doors on Clinton supporters at some of the caucuses, among other things.

The campaign also said the Obama camp had hijacked some of the caucus packets at certain precincts, adding that in others Obama supporters were calling in caucus results before the polls had closed.

Ace Smith, Clinton’s Texas campaign director, said the state party’s election hotline was jammed, and the Clinton campaign was receiving “hundreds of complaints.”

“This is just truly outrageous behavior,” Smith said. “It’s really disturbing, and it’s really undemocratic what’s going on.”

UPDATE / Big Tent Democrat:NBC, If You Don’t Want To Cover The Dem Race, Please Stop Covering It.” (From his story: “NBC seems upset that Hillary Clinton is not likely to drop out of the race tonight. They really seem to not want to cover this race anymore. I think the solution is simple. Do not cover the race NBC. …”) Amen, BTD. Go read it all.

Discuss anything about tonight that gets to you, fascinates you, thrills you, worries you. Via Todd Beeton at MyDD: Vermont (15 delegates): polls close 7 pm ET (declared for Obama/McCain) / Ohio (141 delegates): polls close 7:30 pm ET / Rhode Island (21 delegates): polls close 9 pm ET (Hillary has won RI) / Texas (193 delegates): polls close 9 pm ET.

my friend sent the note to DNC and Hillary campaign.

Todd Beeton has some interesting stuff about the exit polls:

Update [2008-3-4 19:42:26 by Todd Beeton]:CNN’s Ohio exit poll shows that Hillary Clinton won women 54-45% and Barack Obama won men 52-47% and that women made up a whopping 59% of the vote. A friend tells me that if these exit polls hold up, they would translate to a 3% Clinton win, but take that with a grain of salt, of course. We anxiously await some real results but it should be noted that polls in Sandusky County, Ohio, will be open until 9 p.m. due to weather.

Marc Ambinder has an interesting tidbit about Ohio’s delegate allocation:

NBC News Political Director Chuck Todd on MSNBC points out that Hillary Clinton’s delegate spread in Ohio, assuming she wins the popular vote narrowly, could be as large as +5 or as narrow as.. -1..if Obama runs up the margins in the Cleveland-area districts held by Rep. Dennis Kucinich and Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones.
Update [2008-3-4 19:45:58 by Todd Beeton]:The exit poll also shows that Obama won Republicans (9% of the vote) by just 10% and Independents (22% of the vote) by just 8%.

[THAT'S in Jonathan Singer's post. Todd inserts some reality into Singer's posts, snort. Singer is so in the bag for Obama, and his pieces are very slanted. Beeton is more of a realist / I've thanked him for it, even when he's been critical of Hillary, because that's ideally (imho) what a front-pager should do. In the diaries, we can be partisan as all get out, but the FPers should try sometimes to be at least realists.]

On MSNBC Ohio’s Former Secretary (and election thief) of State Kenneth Blackwell just referred to Clinton and OBama as “Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum”

What an ass. So happy that Kenneth Blackwell be testifying under oath

Washington officials subpoena former Ohio Secretary Ken Blackwell
“WASHINGTON — A hearing in Congress has demonstrated just how much lingering suspicion remains among Democrats over the last two presidential elections.
Democrats on a subcommittee today won a vote authorizing a subpoena for Kenneth Blackwell, the Republican who was Ohio’s top election official in 2004, when many Democrats charged that their supporters were discouraged from voting.

The panel’s Democratic chairman says he hopes the subpoena threat will persuade Blackwell to testify voluntarily.”

Obama has filed a Federal lawsuit to keep open the polls in Franklin and Cuyahoga Counties in Ohio.

Comment by bert | 2008-03-04 20:35:09

Why would Obama want polls open longer in Franklin and Cuyahoga counties? What does he hope to achieve? Does anyone think he will prevail?

Comment by barbh | 2008-03-04 20:45:47

If they are kept open, shouldn’t they be kept open state wide. It seems to me that isn’t fair. Of course I wouldn’t expect fairness from the unifying change campaign.

All wrapped up in reading what is happening in the Gaza at Information Clearing house.

Will repeat that from what I heard from the Talking heads on MSNBC say about an hour ago. Hillary is carrying the hard core blue collar vote in Ohio (all those folks I saw at
Hillary’s event in Dayton). Matthews tried to say that Hillary’s hesitation during her comment about Obama’s religion “not that I am aware” I thought Hillary went over the top with this comment. I have been bothered at how much these candidates religions have come up. It pissed me off when Romney’s faith came under scrutiny and all of this focus on Obama’s faith. What is this the dark ages? Sure feels like it.

Hillary is taking the older white womans vote in Ohio. After Hillary’s rally’s she should walk immediately over to those who are unable to get to her (over to the seniors and handicapped individuals)

Hillary will be taking all of Ohio .. guaranteed (unless those machines are fiddled with again) Even with all of those Rovian Republicans flipping over for the primary)

I am sick of these Religious comments. Get on to the issues please.

Tom Brokaw blew Matthews out of the water for these comments

What has he said?

He, and Diane Sawyer, the elder statesmen, are providing balanced coverage, from what I am reading.

Good to know there are some journalists with integrity still around.

Comment by Kathleen | 2008-03-04 21:36:37

He basically told Matthews that his focus on Hillary’s vague comments in regard to Obama’s religion and the Naftagate issue was a bunch of hooey.

Tom Brokaw read some exit polls proving that Hillary was taking older white women, who had been with her the whole way…from the beginning of her race.

I keep thinking about those older women who were at the Hillary rally in Dayton Ohio. I saw five older ladies crying when she was speaking. I went up to a few of them after Hillary’s rally and they were so sweet, and so wanted to witness a woman become President before they died. My mother who is 80 really wants to witness this and she knows Hillary is more than qualified.

Hillary should do some commercials with some older gals.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 21:52:35

I keep thinking about those older women who were at the Hillary rally in Dayton Ohio. I saw five older ladies crying when she was speaking.

It occurred to me women can get the job done, MSNBC not withstanding.

The last eight years of marginalizing women to the Chris Matthews of this world made people forget how competent American women are, how capable.

Without a doubt, Clinton is the superior candidate.

Very interesting what Clinton is doing in terms of empowering women. Too bad Obama hasn’t done the same for AAs. Sad, I really hope Obama doesn’t end up identfying AAs with corruption, Rezko and Auchi.

Not that he’d care.

Comment by Fleaflicker | 2008-03-04 22:11:58

I completely agree. Talking with older women I have found that they are so proud to be able to vote for a woman President. I have also experienced this during Honk and Waves and canvassing. Many women are just so excited to be voting for Hillary. It is amazing.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 22:19:38

This sounded patronizing, and I apologize.

It’s just after 8 years of whiny Bush and the campaign of the whiny Obamabots, one and the same, it’s become apparent those BOYS simply can’t get the job done, anywhere.

And I hope men who feel unsure of a woman as President, or CIC, look at Obama, and Bush, and compare them with Clinton, her strength and ability to stand up to terrorists, or bullies, like the Saudis, and Auchi.

Obama, Bush and Cheney cannot.

A lot of that has to do with what people KNOW about Obama, the press has been buttering him, like a cob of corn.

If you don’t blog, you only know what you see from the MSM, and, well, Jiminy Glick is your only source of news, really.

But with the truth emerging, hopefully, regular voters will make informed decisions.

As to those with degress versus those without, maybe blue collar workers can see through the crap, the workers in this country got screwed by the republicans, and Obama is selling the same program, a little light, and a little late.

Also, I think the Obama ride is overblown, once the smoke clears, his support might not be all that…

Why the non-college track folks dislike O-Bomba? He doesn’t reflect the values of factory and trade workers. He also never worked a REAL job in his life. His hands are as smooth as a baby’s bottom, and for all we know, his nails are even manicured.

Blue-collared folks aren’t into Starbucks and navel gazing, they are practical. They also know that talk is cheap.

My sis has been a factory worker almost 30 years, mom over 20, and both would vote for Nader before voting for O-Bomba. They’re that disgusted with him — yet another silver spooned pinhead, without a lick of sense of what’s important — JOBS. Without living wage jobs no one even cares about Iraq or healthcare, as they couldn’t even afford TO care.

But don’t we all want a good shot at life, and a safe, secure future for our families?

This isn’t about class war, or stereotypes as much as it seems to point to the same cultural rot that affects the whole of the foamy elite. Those Aspens are connected at the root, you know.

Cultural rot like dutch elm disease, took out most of the dutch elms in Chicago, in the early seventies. I guess it’s the same with the foamy elite.

A man, a big drunken city employee, would drive up in an old Pontiac, stumble out of the front seat, and would hammer an old pop top into a tree. About a week later, the city would come out and chop it down.

So if you see Chris Matthews with a bottle top hammered into his forehead, take it as a sign.

No talent, Obama as Britney Spears, a xerox of talent.

Oh, I disagree. Lou Dobbs isn’t popular because he talks about the woes of the $100,000 bracket of viewers.

If you make 40k a year in my neck of the woods you’re rich. 50k, filthy rich (that’s the pay range of Master level graduates here). 16% of the population lives below the poverty line — 16%.

So, yeah, I disagree soundly.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 22:28:41

You see it as class war, really?

I don’t mean Bush wealthy, but say, over 50, 000?

My family was blue collar, my parents. My siblings and I, not.

We, or my parents, saw the opportunity for upward mobility, college, for instance, so no class resentment set in, education or business, hard work, was the way up.

And we never blamed others for our place in life, we always felt our destiny was in our hands.

Bush, though, and that ilk, the Obamas and Auchi, that’s another story, setting out to destroy the workers, and the unions.

Compare them, though, to Roosevelt.

Race and Gender Both Helped Clinton

I just noticed something really interesting from that CNN exit poll I mentioned below. One question asked if the candidate’s gender was important. 17% said yes, and of them, Clinton won 57-43. So voters who wanted a female candidate outnumbered those who did not. Another question asked if the candidate’s race was important. 20% said yes, and of those, Clinton again won 57-43. So voters who did not want a black candidate outnumbered those who did. Race and gender both seemed to cut in Clinton’s favor — which may not be a shock, since whites and females outnumbered blacks and males.

In both questions, voters who did not care about race or gender split evenly. Clinton’s winning margin — assuming the exits hold up, and it is close enough that maybe it won’t — came from the pro-female, anti-black (or, I guess, anti-male, pro-white) vote.

I have a MA in history. IMHO a college degree means very little these days in terms of critical thinking skills. The deterioration of the American educational system has created this situation. All three of my children have degrees. My younger son has a degree in history from UCLA and is a hard-core Obamazoid. The other two don’t seem to be quite sure who they support. They are not very interested in politics.

He supposedly isolated voters in southeastern Ohio on the “guns, god, gay” issue. I actually noticed this during that election. (I ran several phone banks during the Kerry campaign) Just days before the election literature that was focused on these issues were distributed in south eastern Ohio.

The discussions on the phone went from talking about relevant issues (Iraq, jobs, health care) to “guns god and gays”. It worked along with Blackwell and Rove;s election machine hanky panky (reducing a precincts machines from 6 to 3) knowing that more people would be coming out for that election. This happened at quite a few precincts in Franklin county (Columbus)

Except the suspicion is he STILL had to steal the elections.

IMO, he’s no genius.

And he had this compliant, ratdog press, and the politics of fear, too, pure propaganda pushed by Fox, and others.

Remember what they did to Gore, and Kerry?

And he still lost.

Remember who’s talking. And that he’s an election genius, but perhaps well grounded in the usual sense.

To Karl anyone to the right of the Ottoman Turks, or perhaps Torquemada, is a far left liberal.

I agree 100% with that. he couldn’t care less about being “liberal” in fact I think he worked very hard this past year so that his senate record would look very liberal. But when you look the whole he seems to be a closet conciliator.

Karl Rove knows every hack that matters,Rebublican or Democrat in Chicago. He can say what he wants but he knows his roledex can reach out to the people that brought Obama to the table. I think the longer Senator Clinton makes the case she has been making, the better.

What is up with this judge in Ohio?

The thing that scares me about both McCain and HIllary is the possibility that they will go along with the “cakewalk in Iraq” zealots agenda with a pre-emptive strike on Iran. Israel has gone wild with attacks in Lebanon, Gaza. What is next?

At a certain point, the US has to regain control of it’s foreign policy.

I truly believe Bush and Cheney answer to others, their money guys, men like Auchi.

Based in his past record, I don’t see Obama voting independently of the people financing him, like Auchi, or his other corporate sponsors.

Obama hasn’t taken a stand on any issue independent of what his financial backers asked for, or paid for. Seriously, look at his record.

Read up on Rezko, and Auchi, the whole IL crowd.

Auchi, among his other heinous crimes, is KNOWN for the bribery of government officials.

Obama is simply bought.

Clinton/Obama with John Edwards as the Attorney General. General Wesley Clark as the Secretary of Defense or State. That’s what I am thinking of. Who should be the head of the EPA?

Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore operating as ambassadors

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-03-04 21:49:11

I love it. Wish we could get Big Al for the EPA, but he’s beyond that these days. Edwards could do it too, because I believe he could learn any of those cabinet jobs except State or Defense. (Someone suggested Patrick Fitzgerald for AG, which might be good — even though I’ve read he’s a Republican.)

Comment by Kathleen | 2008-03-04 22:25:48

Nothing wrong with being a “real” Republican. Whatever Fitz is I am all for it. Fitz or Edwards would work as AG. Clinton appointed Republicans in his cabinet. Mix it up, makes everyone feel better.

Hell there are plenty of “real” Republicans that have been terrified or in shock with this group of radicals in the White House. Bruce Fein, Kevin Phillips, Paul O’Neil, hell even William F Buckley had his serious doubts about this group of crazies.

Wow Olbermann, Matthews etc. can’t get enough of that “Moving the Goalposts” analogy, can they? That’s like the tenth time I’ve heard one of them use it in the last 24 hours.

I heard a caller to Washington Journal this morning accusing Hillary of “moving the goalposts.” Personally, I have a bit too much pride to call a radio show and bleat talking points, but that’s just me.

Who’s been moving the goalposts? Remember when New Hampshire was the key? Remember when “whoever wins California will win the nomination?”

Hey guys- here’s a quarter. By yourselves a clue- and a fresh analogy. Or just admit your sexist asses got stomped tonight. By a GIRL.

Hillary’s winning Ohio easy, and she’s catching up fast in Texas. Good night for the good guys.

Has anyone listen to the intrusion of an Obama lawyer
(Bauer?) into a conference call between the Clionton campaign and reproters? It seems the guy told the operator he was areporter and
starting ranting for 4 min. before hanging up about how
all the complaints from TX are BS and that is “just Clinton whining about losing all caucuses….

I have a very bad feelig about TX; I think the Dem. Party and the MSM will totally disregard the illegalities (?) and portrait Clinton as “whining”

If you read the ABC piece you can tell how Nieto the
Dem. Party official say the warning was for “both sides” about the irregularities and refused to point to the Obama camp for their dirty tricks.

They are covering their asses in case Obama is the nominee (back to Chicago politics?).

Does anyone has a different reading ?

I don’t like one bit the party’s reaction…

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 22:33:35

The republicans supposedly skewed that election toward Obama, too, all those tricks Obama and Rove are so fond of, stealing elections.

So, Obama and the Republicans either deal with the truth, or they drown in their own chaos.

Comment by Andy | 2008-03-04 22:45:37

Simon,

I like your optimistic determination :-)

But I fear they won’t deal cleanly with anything but rather throw all the mud back at Clinton’s face–with the MSM full blown help of course…

The BIG problem I see is the *non-reaction* from the party officials: they will investigate zero
Remember that caucus “irregularities” to be polite
are the party’s jurisdiction. And they are sending the message that their earlier warning for the irregularities were for BOTH CAMPS (equally) which is essentially validating Obama’s accusations of Clinton’s “whining”…. I find the party’s
“message” disgusting. PONTIUS PILATE …
they are washing their hands of this…

Hence NADA will happen and once again Obama is getting away with the dirty “chicago tactics”….???

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 23:39:34

But I fear they won’t deal cleanly with anything but rather throw all the mud back at Clinton’s face

Standard MO, everyone knows, now, I would expect nothing less.

And that whole group, that whole aspen “we’re connected at the roots” group, is in it’s own little world, the xerox elites, not many brains, there.

And a certain point, the people in charge, the real people in charge, not the people we see on CNN, say, have to make a decision whether they want to clean it up, or not.

If it doesn’t get clean, the country fails, they’re smart people, they understand how and why governments function.

And if they want it cleaned up, it will be cleaned up. All within the context of a world wide asymmetric, or really, terrorist war, truth be told.

That’s why I think ultimately it’s best not to get caught up in the crap, and simply obey the laws.

You just never ever know.

I’m flipping around and flipped onto Fox and they were reporting that the Obama campaign cherry picked Cuyhoga county to stay open and that you had to show some evidence of a problem and that there was none on the order the judge signed. By the time this got around to the SOS, it was 8:55 and she was going to close them down. If this is true it really pisses me off.

I didn’t think it was fair earlier that some counties stay open more longer than others, no problem if all the counties stay open that late.

It would seem illegal espeially in light of the Florida 2000 election and equal protection arguments.

What a bunch of crap and if Clinton would dare to challenge this she would be slammed 100 times and if Clinton did something like this she would be the evil queen mother. I am so sick of Obama’s garbage. I don’t see how I could ever vote for this A$$.

Comment by Kathleen | 2008-03-04 22:38:19

I’ll tell you what after what took place in Ohio in 2004 I do not blame Obama for questioning. Ohio’s precincts in many of African American districts were really screwed up in 2004. The voters in these areas were truly disenfranchised. Go Obama make sure it’s right.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 22:42:57

Ok, agreed.

No voter should be disenfranchised, I know FL voters are still FURIOUS about 2000, and Susan was angry about WA.

But Obama’s campaign BRAGS about it’s dirty tricks, so everything they do is suspect.

Comment by Kathleen | 2008-03-04 22:49:15

Exactly we have had almost eight years of a fucking nightmare administration due to the stolen election in Florida and the Supreme Court Judicial coup. Not to mention the living hell that this adminstration has turned the Iraqi peopls’e lives into. We’ve turned the middle east into a potential inferno.

Comment by barbh | 2008-03-04 23:09:09

Oh I agree, it just offends my sense of fairness that all counties didn’t remain open until 9:00, that he cherry picked only the counties that he thought that he had best the chance of picking up votes in. I think the whole state should have stayed open later. I heard earlier turnout was supressed in the counties along the Ohio River because of the flooding. I think everyone should vote by mail ballot as in Oregon. It would sure save a lot of headaches and I can’t help wonder if participation wouldn’t be higher.

If Hillary had done this there would be a huge outcry about it at least on the orange obama.

Hillary is not going to win this unless Obama is caught in bed with a goat.

Hillary’s Math Problem
Forget tonight. She could win 16 straight and still lose.

Hillary Clinton may be poised for a big night tonight, with wins in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island. Clinton aides say this will be the beginning of her comeback against Barack Obama. There’s only one problem with this analysis: they can’t count.

I’m no good at math either, but with the help of Slate’s Delegate Calculator I’ve scoped out the rest of the primaries, and even if you assume huge Hillary wins from here on out, the numbers don’t look good for Clinton. In order to show how deep a hole she’s in, I’ve given her the benefit of the doubt every week for the rest of the primaries.

So here we go: Let’s assume Hillary beats expectations and wins Ohio tonight 55-45, Rhode Island 55-45, Texas, 53-47 and (this is highly improbable), ties in Vermont, 50-50.

Then it’s on to Wyoming on Saturday, where, let’s say, the momentum of today helps her win 53-47. Next Tuesday in Mississippi—where African-Americans play a big role in the Democratic primary—she shocks the political world by winning 52-48.

Comment by barbh | 2008-03-04 23:14:59

Alter is so in the tank for Obama, it’s not even funny. It wasn’t that long ago that Obama was behind by much more. The math is more than okay, especially with the Rezko trial cranking up and the press starting to take a second look at the angel Obama.

Beside which if I was the democratic party, I would be very leery of coronating BO. The polls with him matched up against McCain in states that dems traditionally win, don’t look all that great to me…in fact the last few that I have seen indicate that McCain wins vs Obama, but not vs Clinton.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 23:48:51

And those delegates can switch, right?

Like Lewis did?

Comment by ChrisXP | 2008-03-04 23:19:24

The problem you have with the math is, the delegates really don’t matter in the end.

The Electorial College does. Can’t win the GE if you can’t carry the large states.

So tell me what’s the point of nominating O-Bomba if he loses those large states to McCain????

Only Hillary is carrying them. Only Hillary can compete against McCain.

Comment by S.Markom | 2008-03-04 23:19:55

Hillary is not going to win this unless Obama is caught in bed with a goat.

Well Obama was caught in a manner of speaking “in bed” but with a pig - Tony Rezko.

The longer this primary goes on the more it benefits Hillary.

Like all rock stars they have a short shelf life. Obama is being more exposed in small and large ways and the lustre is wearing off fast.

Remember that none of the pledged delegates are 100% bound to who they are pledged for.

If no one gets the required number of delegates by the convention and the party finds Obama on the downside of popularity or has growing problems because of Rezko then “math” means nothing. It’s about winning.

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-04 23:51:32

Like all rock stars they have a short shelf life.

Pop princesses and posers have a short shelf life.

Hillary voters are winners, Cee, you know that…

Nothing worse than a narcissistic wannabe throwing a tantrum.

Not you, Cee, but expect the bamabots to be in full whine mode, court challenges, the whole Rove nine yards, (without Rove, of course).

I expect more arm twisting of delegates.

Rezko, and Auchi, and Obama’s inability to win the big states is your reality.

And btw, what do the private eyes have on Obama?

I’ve been reading things here and there, and if they’re true, you really should pay attention.

CNN is just being gross- it’s all “Hillary went negative,” “Obama still the future of the party,” “Hillary’s moved the goalposts,” “The math does not favor Hillary,” no fewer than TWO panels with EIGHT people, either McCain suckups or Obamaphiles, NOBODY to speak for Hillary- god what a load of crap this is.

Hillary won. Obama lost. EAT IT YOU SEXIST ASSHOLES!!

Comment by barbh | 2008-03-04 23:21:00

You know what, I never thought that I would say this, but flipping back and forth between MSNBC, CNN and Fox, Fox is more objective and much less offensive. This is seriously the only time I ever use a remote to flip around, but I get disgusted quickly. I do like the interative map that CNN has up on line though. I just flip back and forth on the web too. Mostly to Texas BOE now…

Comment by SusanUnPC | 2008-03-04 23:32:19

DEFINITELY. Watch FOX NEWS. They are respectful. They don’t do the snark. They don’t psychoanalyze. They are praising her for her recent campaign strategies. They are appalled at what Obama’s lawyers pulled tonight in Ohio precincts (see my notes in Update 5).

They also speak a bit more intelligently. They use better English. They use big words sometimes. It’s amazing.

(Helps that Ill O’Reilly and Hannity aren’t on.)

Comment by Simon | 2008-03-05 00:02:24

Not sure, but I think it attests to Murdoch’s business genius, in a sense he is first and foremost pragmatic.

And the London Times has been one of only a few papers telling the truth about the American political scandals ( Rezko, obama and auchi, Sybil Edmonds) that alone has been a godsend.

Comment by Andy | 2008-03-04 23:27:02

CNN has been disgusting; they have lied, cover up, not report, etc etc all for Obama. This has been going on for a while now. For example: they keep on saying “Obama’s 2002 vote against the war”…

I experimented for a week trying to post on their comments and they censured 5 out of 6. Only 1 went through. I was very careful to be on topic, respectful but ask questions. They didn’t like it.

I think they like the balance in their comments to be 50 for Obama versus 2 for Clinton. And the 50 from Obama supporters are VICIOUS; full of irrational hate all based on Hillary Clinton as a “woman”. Nothing about policy or substance. Just personal adjectives.

The comments at CNN are far far worse than say those at ABC. Make you sick….

Can’t stand CNN any longer…

Comment by Centrocitta | 2008-03-05 07:36:04

Agreed about CNN and of course, Fox News. I live in Italy and have to go to the Italian and British channels to get non-biased coverage about Hillary Clinton.

However, when I mailed my absentee ballot at the Italian post office, I told the clerk, “This is a Texas vote for Hillary Clinton”. And he said, “Are you sure this vote is not a mistake”? (apparently, he watches Fox News).

So, this Friday, when I go back to the post office to buy my special Anna Magnani stamps in commemoration of her 100th birthday, I’m going to tell that clerk that, “No, my vote for Hillary Clinton was NOT a mistake and you should find a source other than Fox News to learn English”.

Comment by ces | 2008-03-04 23:20:46

I must report my Texas experience before I read all the comments:

We’re in SE Dallas/FW area.

Voted at 3:30pm: Had to wait for about 6-7 to vote; there was a line for Ds, none for the Rs.

Caucus:
- showed up at 6:50pm and the elementary school’s lunch room was packed.
- People were still in line to vote.
- voting ended close to 8PM.
- the four precincts at our location finally got split up around 9.
- the election official said he declared himself a temp election caption, and asked who wanted to be the secretary.
- A women standing directly him (we were all sitting still) spoke up that she wanted to be secretary. She was also wearing a BO pin. [can you electioneer at a caucus?]
- the went through the Robert’s rules of order to make those two the permanent officials. blah blah blah…control the sheets, control the delegates. I’ll say this, the BO campaign know their caucuses…
- we were sitting at long lunch tables and the secretary then gave each table a sign-in sheet.

****No ID, No voter card, No verification of a 1:1 sign-ing to person was made***

- i asked the guy being the election official about this and he just said, “I just can’t do it. I am taking them on their word.” That’s almost verbatim. I think this stinks. I could have written in any number of neighbors (who voted) and their caucus count would added to HC’s percentage. And I’m not entirely sure that they didn’t call in the results before they closed the caucus or that they checked those numbers against the “voted today” lists. No wonder BO likes his open primary caucuses.
- they were telling people they could go home, because unless you wanted to be a delegate, you didn’t have to stay
- then finally they split us up into BO area vs HC area.
- 189 total, 37 for Clinton
- well those 7-8 of us for HC that stayed chose our 3 delegates and 3 alternates, and turned in our sheet.
- then the election judge (title ??) entered in a resolution!! for flight controllers to go back to the bargaining table….(he’s a flight controller). I didn’t know you could enter a resolution!!! I would have made one myself!
- then they motioned and moved to close the caucus.

What a mess.

Comment by Andy | 2008-03-04 23:31:27

You have to report this verbatim to the Clinton Camp and copy it to the Dem. Party officials. And if you can copy it to some media outlet (maybe ABC)?
You can pretty much copy and past your comments here.

Well, at least the potential for fraud. The election caption said he just couldn’t do it (meaning verifying that who signed in was actually there.)

He said he’d rely on their word that the names on the list actually match those who were there.

I was sitting with friends over at Baker Center on Ohio University’s campus and we were all yelling at Matthews and Olberman.

Just spoke with my 80 year old mom who is a Hillary fanatic she is so excited and of course we are both wishing we had gone to the Columbus event to witness this piece of history.

REPORT FROM HOUSTON
From what I got, Hillary Clinton carried my precinct in the primary count, approximately 56%. But in the caucus tonight it was 59% Obama 41% Clinton. Resulting in 24/16 delegates to the next delegate step. OUR SYSTEM IS FUCKING ARCHAIC!!!!!

Nobody seemed to know how the caucus system works. The precinct judges were confused, they were good people, and I know the precinct judge who is top notch. But after we signed in to the caucus we were told we could leave if we wanted to.

What this resulted in:
Since Clinton got 16 delegates from our district, we needed 32 people to be there tonight (16 delegates and 16 alternates).
We had about 400 people gathered outside perhaps, and after many were told they could leave…guess how many were still standing in the room for Clinton…exactly 32. Meaning, if any more had left, we wouldn’t have had 16 alternates.

This stupid ass system confused all sides, yet Bob Bauer has the fucking audacity to say Clinton complains when losing. His audacious disrespect for me as a voter will be taken out directly on his campaign.

I left after being told I could. I called the campaign to inform them they carried 034 precinct. “You left the caucus?”
“Yeah”
“Oh god, no…you have to stay there to finish the process.”

They took my info to follow up on the problems in the caucus system. I’ll keep you updated.

In good news, the caucus members were presenting resolutions to send to the DNC. I asked if I had to have it already written to present it and quickly scribbled down the following proposal:

“All Democratic Party debates will be hosted and moderated by neutral non-media centered organizations such as the League of Women Voters to prevent the obvious conflict of interest in network anchors asking questions.”

This passed overwhelmingly. We must join across the country to get these talking heads out of the debates. They are fucking us when they ask bullshit and biased loaded questions. We must end this slanting of issues in favor ratings bait.

Over from Houston.
(have to change MSNBC before I destroy my TV with a brick)

REQUEST FOR SUSAN:

Could you write a note/post about what’s the truth about Obama’s TV Ads in Florida before the primaries there?

My understanding is that he was the only candidate to air ads in MSNBC and CNN as part of a “national buy” and that CNN and MNSBC told him they could not cut Florida out (that is what his campaign says) But I read other reports that this was not true. That he could have opted out of Florida or of some region that included Florida (and had no states that were relevant
for him then).

I think this is important. The argument being made all accross the board about Florida (I don’t know Michigan) is that people didn’t know him and that were “not exposed” to his “message”. But noone is saying that he was the only one that air TVAds there (and heavily it seems).

Would be nice to have some more reliable info. what really happened about this.

If you have covered this in the past could you repost the link ?

BTW: Thank you for all your hard work !! It’s very much appreciated it here .

Only 5% in, with Obama at 56% and Hillary 44%.

I’m just looking for Hillary to win the popular vote. That will give her superdelegates a reason to stay with her.

If Obama loses Texas and Ohio, in the popular vote, many Democrats will begin to question whether he can win the big states, especially Ohio, to beat John McCain.

I’m not that interested in the caucuses. I think it’s very likely the superdelegates will be deciding this race. Ill be updating this primary vote thread, but here’s a place for you to comment on them.

Being at the bottom of this long thread I’m sure this will be mostly missed, but…

Went to hear Robert Wexler (D-FL) speak on Monday night. (Think I was one of the very few goyim in the room :) ).

First, though he endorsed Obama, he did say “There’s a million reasons to vote for Hillary Clinton. It’s just that I think for Obama, there’s a million and one.” So take that how you will.

However, the primary point of the talk was about impeachment hearings. Two or three interesting things came out of it. 1) NH State Legislature is going to debate and vote March 12-16 on this issue. If they pass a resolution, it forces US Congress to consider the matter (based on Jefferson Rule 103 or something similar). 2) Wexler wants to force Meyers and Bolton to testify even if they have to send the man-at-arms from the Hill to the WH to get them. 3) He wants everyone to write their representatives to help gain support for impeachment hearings.

He brought up Wilson and Plame at least three times as well as lying about WMDs/Iraq and other issues.
